ago detached and on an overpass in palo alto. what are you finding out? >> the speed sensors are not a problem. here's what's going on. i'm looking at this entire section of the freeway. both sides, 880 and 280. two lanes blocked here at the embarcadero. it will probably ripple over. use 280 as an alternate. or take 880 over to 237 and back around. bob redell is back out there getting more information. we will go to him later on in the show. this is just coming off the dumbarton bridge. university and willow south on 101 just past the construction zone, that's where the two left lanes are blocked. traffic is very light right now. we'll follow this along with bob coming up. back to you guys. for now politics and what's

next for attorney general jeff sessions. democrats keep calling for his resignation even though he says he will recrews himself from any investigation into the 2016 campaign. >> that was the latest development from yesterday. edward lawrence joining us live in washington. it seems like every single day there is some sort of new development with the trump administration. what's the latest? good morning. yeah. good morning, sam and kris. it seems like there is a rift of stories about sessions and the trump administration. democrats are saying the attorney general must resign. >> attorney general jeff sessions defends himself, saying he he should have disclosed his meeting with the russian ambassador. >> let me be clear, i never had meeting with russian operatives or russian intermediaries about the trump campaign. >> he recused himself from any

investigation into russian meddling. during his confirmation hearing, sessions did not disclose his communication with the russian ambassador to the u.s. >> i did not have communications with the russians. >> in a statement, president donald trump said he could have been clearer, but this is a total witch-hunt. >> i think it was hyped beyond reason. and i think it was unfair. i was glad to be able to address it today. >> democrats don't buy it, calling the new attorney general a liar. >> i don't think it has anything to do with the attorney general. i think it has to do with not telling the truth under oath. >> the attorney general is the top cop in our country lied under oath to the american people is grounds for him to resign. . >> now we are learning that

jared kushner met with the russian ambassador in trump tower. that meeting was more of the equivalent of a 15-minute meet and greet. live in washington, edward lawrence. back to you, sam and kris. >> no doubt much more to come. thank you very much. breaking news in the bay area. bob redell is on the side of the freeway, highway 101 in palo alto where a dump truck damaged that overpass. bob, it seals like some traffic is slowing behind you. >> well, only two lanes are shut down in palo alto before the embarcadero overpass. chp doesn't think this section will be reopened until the damage. slight chipping there under the overpass. they need someone from caltrans to come out and inspect it and make sure the structural expect

integrity is there. the driver dropped his load at a site heading southbound on 101. we believe he forgot to lower his box bed. so when he came to the overpass, the dump box became detached from the bed and had to be removed. in the process of colliding with the overpass, chp believes it popped a wheelie. the driver ended up smashing his nose into the steering wheel, broke his nose. he was taken to the hospital. chp does not believe alcohol or drugs was involved. as a result, there was damage to the overpass. the reason why they are taking so long is the engineer will be taking a look at this. he's in sacramento. it is taking time for him to get down here. they will put on a flatbed,

scissor-lift. in the meantime, not only are number one and two lanes shut down in palo alto just before the overpass, is so the one that runs perpendicular on the overpass itself. bob rebdellredell, today. >> matt: bay. talk about a bad day for that driver. developing news out of stockton. the fbi is involved in the case against the former stockton maryor anthony silva. he was accused of eavesdropping on minors at a youth camp and giving alcohol to under-aged kid. it is is unclear which charges he's facing at this point. the fbi and the district attorneys office searched his home as well as the kids club he used to run. agents were seen carrying boxes of documents and computers from each of those locations. the 24-year-old roommate was the only person home as agents

served the search warrant and explained what happened. >> i saw cops running in saying we have a warrant for this house. >> silva is currently vacationing in colombia but will cut his trip short and return early next week because of the search warrant. if you have plans to head to yosemite there is a massive gap in the pavement. what a sight to see. the road will be closed for some time. park rangers have a right now making repairs. >> so beautiful this time of year too. helicopter crews will begin an unusual airlift.

and the weather moving on. 45 in san francisco, oakland and palo alto. highs today in the south bay reaching 67 degrees in morgan hill. and the east bay, 62 in livermore, antioch. 62 in san mateo. and san francisco, the mission district at 60 degrees. also 60 in mill valley. today oakland, we will have clouds. the is sun peeking out. but the rain holding off. we will see the temperatures in the low is 60s today. once again, things change this weekend. we have seen this system stretching inland from offshore. and starting to move south as we go into early tomorrow. with that it will bring in scattered showers. here's what to expect. we will start to see the clouds moving in today. by early tomorrow morning we will see a little bit of green on the map indicating light

rain. even at lunchtime, most of the bay area is dry. then we see rain moving into the north bay and making its progression to the south in time for the afternoon. most of us seeing it in time for the evening as well. off and on rain overnight saturday into sunday with at times very chilly temperatures, breezy winds and rain falling from those clouds. looking at a rainfall total, love the weekend. for the most part, about a tenth of an inch. if you're heading to russian river valley for the weekend, today the best day of the weekend. heading farther south the rain holds off a little bit longer for caramel valley. on sunday, we will see the showers moving in. also for late saturday evening. follow me on facebook and twitter. i'll keep you up to date on

watching today ithe b -- on >> good morning, bay area. starting off with breaking news as you're watching today in the bay on nbc bay area. this is a live picture of the damage that caltrans is going to be examining this morning on highway 101 in palo alto. a dump truck caused a lot of damage crashing into that. bob redell has all the details coming up in a live report. thank you for joining us on this friday. i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. we have an issue there. kris you the damage. let me show you the map. it is friday. a lighter volume of traffic. i'm watching this area unusual to watch this on a friday.

i want to focus over here. roadway damage for southbound highway 101. this is as you go southbound towards the embarcadero. that's the one kris showed you the damage. that's where bob redell is. we had the crash. what happened over there? good morning to you, mike. it was a dump truck with a raised bed that hit the embarcadero road overpass behind me. you can see some damage, some chipping of the concrete. as a result of that, number one and two lanes on southbound 101 shut down here before the embarcadero overpass before a structural engineer is able to can come out and inspect the damage. the estimated time according to chp, still noon this afternoon.

the dump truck driver dumped his load on highway 101. dumped the load. chp believes he forgot to lower the dump box. wedged between the freeway and the overpass shutting down traffic. that had to be removed. and the dump truck driver, apparently when he hit the overpass, popped a wheelie and his face smashed the steering wheel. he broke his nose. he was taken to the hospital. outside of that he is going to be okay. chp does not believe he was drinking or under the influence of drugs. just a person who forget to put down the dump box. an engineer is from sacramento. he has to get down here and

getting on a scissor-lift and look at the damage, making sure the overpass is still structurally sound. estimated time is noon. bob redell, today in the bay. a long day for all those folks there. the family of a 12-year-old boy is suing bart accusing the agency of lax security. the suit claimed the robbery happened last year at the el serito bart station. a gunman robbed the boy in a stairwell and bart failed to equip the stairwell with a camera and failed to provide adequate police presence. >> bart's attitude was, what do you expect us to do about it? hopefully through the lawsuit we will be able to change that of

attitude on bart's behalf. >> here's the station parking lot released. station surveillance is robust. if we had found video evidence we would have shared the images with surrounding law enforcement agencies. david lang is accused of being in possession of child pornography. he is the ceo at the bill wilson center. he has been associated with that center since 2004. the ceo says he is confident no kid were affected at that center. the bay area says good-bye michael foley. a large crowd is expected to be for his funeral in concord.

this is a tragic situation. a memorial is service at the concord pavilion just weeks after he was involved in that. last week he was hit by a jail transport bus. he was walking behind the bus when the driver backed up and hit him. officials at the time says visibility may have been low due to the weather. he suffered a traumatic brain injury he was on life support and eventually sucumbed to the injuries. foley worked for contra police nearly 30 years. thank you very much, pete. happening today, mourners will say final farewell to a police officer killed in the line of duty in southern

california. on february 20th, a gunman shot and killed kevin boyar as he responded to a traffic request. >> we're learning that the wife of the orlando gunman will remain jail in dublin. she will not be allowed to go to a family's home while she awaits trial. she is accused of aiding and abetting her husband omar mateen. on he killed 49 people when he opened fire in a nightclub in orlando last year. as we first reported wednesday, in a rare move, an oakland judge released salman on jail. a florida judge reversed it because the charges against her are terror related. let's take a look at what we're tracking around the bay today. expanding service from san francisco. the ferry will run monday

. 5:42 on this friday morning. chilly temperatures. most of us starting out in the 30s while the inner bay and the coastal areas are in the mid-40s. dry today but weekend rain as this system moves in. i'll detail the timeline and how much coming up in seven minutes. earlier, that's the dump truck that wedged into the overpass. i'll show you the closure of the impact on the peninsula. new this morning, the latest effort to improve health care in california's prisons will mean higher pay for doctors. the state agreed to a new deal with the union representing those state doctors, psychiatrists as well and dentists are also included. it calls for a 9% pay hike over

four years. doctors seeing the work staff shortages would be in line for 15% annual bows ins. they average about $270,000 a year. kris, happening today, we are expecting a final report on suicide deaths of 10 palo alto students. several students taking their lives on cal train tracks. it is expected to include important recommendations for city leader. and the first cluster of suicides began in 2009 with four students from began high school. >> european leaders are now turning up the heat in a visa dispute with the u.s. right now the u.s. refuses to grant visa-free access from four eastern european states, includi plus cypress.

series of tweets. jeff sessions is an honest man. he did not say anything wrong. he could have stated his response more accurately. but it was clearly not intentional. this whole narrative is a way of saving face for democrats losing an election everybody thought they were to win. they lost the election. now they have lost their grip on reality. it is is a total witch-hunt. this comes after attorney general jeff sessions recused himself from any future investigations into russian connections to our election or the white house. sessions testified inaccurately under october during his comfortation hearing. sessions said he did not meet with the russians, except he did. one interaction at the republic

republican. paul manafort stepped down after his concerns with pro russian ukrainian leaders. quinn resigned after he misled the vice president about his meetings with russians. and now of course sessions recusing himself. to be clear, he remains attorney general. yesterday, as this news broke, we showed you video session testifying he had not met with the russians. this was during his confirmation under oath. i showed you the interaction between jeff sessions on the right and al franken on the left. i misspoke and called him barney frank. he was a congressman from massachusetts. al franken from minnesota. in the day of accusations of fake news, it is important to get it right. it was a slip of the tongue. guys, keep the tweets coming. tweets and coffee.

tomorrow. then into early sunday. moving out monday morning. we return to our dry weather as the temperatures warm up. inland areas hitting low 70s by the end of next week. something else to look forward to. we head over to mike tracking the peninsula and bart. >> we are talking about an easy friday commute. a couple of spots are slow. the first is the spot we're watching. we don't usually have a problem this early on the pa tphepbs la. we have had this overnight southbound 101. i showed you the video of the dump truck with the bed raised, wedged into the freeway and the overpass. that's embarcadero road. so far light is and manageable for two lanes. as the commute builds, we have a lot of back and forth. 280 may be more popular. that is one option. folks avoiding the dumbarton
