northbound 101 was shut for a number of hours. now it is reopened in time for the morning commute. the suspects are both males, hispanic, both wearing with black bandanas. the dodge charger they were driving has the word "hemi" on it. chp estimates there have been 80 shootings on bay area freeways since 2015. bob redell, today in the bay. it's been a busy night. a mountain view police officer is recovering after police say two car burglary suspects rammed the officer's patrol car. this is a picture sent by

mountain view police department. it happened on 101 at the in-n-out burger. the two men are in custody. no word yet on the officer. a man who worked with hundreds of children is now facing child pornography charges. the 71-year-old teacher will be in court this afternoon. he he tells us he's innocent. john morrison is charged with possessing and distributing child pornography. he worked with kids in workshops and in the schools. nbc bay area reporter caught up with morrison at his home yesterday. >> all i have to say is i'm a good person and i was caught up in something that is way beyond what is -- >> are you guilty of what you're accused of? >> absolutely not. >> police say internet crimes

a 16-year-old girl killed during an undercover operation was pregnant. police say the teen was in a bmw with the suspects and another woman. when the officers tried to approach the car, one of the suspects rammed the patrol car. that's when the officer opened fire. she was in her first trimester. officers say they still have all the suspects in custody. happening today, animal control officers on the peninsula will walk off the job. they are going on a one-day strike. the organization is refusing to agree to a fair contract by denying a cost of living wage increase. a san francisco soccer team is kicking off its first season. the sf dell tas are hosting an

i have an excuse. we'll talk about that. temperatures all clear and starting out very chilly this morning. it is 46 degrees in the tri-valley, 50 degrees. in the south bay as well as the peninsula and in san francisco as you head out the door. looking at 73 degrees for the high. 78 for the south bay. another very warm day. this is how we started out this workweek. going to see those temperatures coming back down this weekend. as we have seen them going up and down all week long. this will be the reason why. here is my st. patrick day green. we are looking at an increase in cloud cover. a slight chance of rain

tomorrow. spotty sprinkles. do not cancel your outdoor plans. this will not ruin your weekend. next week, this will be something chasing you back inside. heavier downpours moving in in the afternoon and throughout the day tuesday. wednesday is also wet. then on thursday, a few of the storm systems wrapping up and moving off towards the east. looking at the potential between now and next friday, over the course of seven days, we could see over two inches of rain for the north bay. and for spots like napa and over towards the sacramento valley is, an inch and a quarter to two inches. east bay, south bay, peninsula, up to an inch and a quarter. as you make plans for the weekend, i'll help you out with that too. six for the next several days.

we start to see all the rain arriving for the end of the weekend and early next week. police activity in san francisco. >> that's right, kari. that is one of the pieces of breaking news we are talking about. in san francisco and 19th street was mentioned. this is 19th street, not 19th avenue. this is east-west between van necessary and mission. taking you from the south south bay, peninsula to the golden gate bridge. the bay bridge, very easy drive. look at that. 13 minutes from highway 4 down the east shore freeway. low clouds all around. the tri-valley moves well. 21 minutes for 580 westbound.

proudly caring for northern california, th's w mh t ci ofoaands pingn $00 an hour. that's how much the city of oakland managed p.r. after the deadly warehouse fire three months ago. >> we are uncovering new details about the deal and whether parts of this contract that the city does not want you to see. good morning, guys. it all has to do with the deadly fire that broke out during an overnight dance party. 36 people died. but immediately after that fire, our investigative unit found the city knew about the dangerous conditions inside. now we are learning oakland is paying a public relations firm for advice on how to talk about that disaster with the media. and it isn't cheap. the city hired the press shop, a media consulting firm based in

san francisco. the cost, up to $90,000 for six months of p.r. that bought a 3% media team, including one executive who gets paid $500 an hour. that's in addition to oakland's full time media relations staff who are already earning six-figure salaries. it was being used for both. the records we obtained showed city building inspectors knew about that unpermitted activity well before the disaster. according to the contract, the city is paying the press shop to develop media strategies and communications all to reduce the city's risk against lawsuits. but it is impossible to know about what the city is getting for all that money since parts of the contract have been blacked out or redacted. the city tells us that is
