definitely a possibility as we start to get more rain moving into the bay area. this round of rain will be wrapping up soon within the next three or four hours. now seeing pockets of heavy rain. not raining everywhere around the bay area. it is expected to continue off and on. as you get the kids ready for school this morning o, definitely rain boots and umbrellas. you will have a wet drive. recess time, still rain possible. getting clearing by 1:00. the sun breaking out. temperatures in the 60s. a much better day this afternoon to get out there and enjoy. the break in the rain will not be long. we have had a few issues on the roadway. >> we had a tree down across highway 17. it was cleared quickly. saturated soil may be an issue. a little bit of mud on 101 near

kris, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. things will get under way in about three hours. we were here at the courthouse yesterday as the three jail guards accused of beating tyree leaving the courtroom. . a retired deputy district attorney will be in court today. an attorney is watching the trial closely. he represents a different inmate who claims he was beaten by other jail guards in the same jail.

that basically is very strong evidence that suggests a pattern of behavior amongst the guards of getting very physical. >> we expect that the defense attorneys for the three correctional deputies will argue the death was not intentional. the trial picks up at 9:00 this morning. the judge in this case did not allow our cameras in the courtroom. but we will have a reporter inside when everything gets started. >> 6:04. happening today, awe north bay film teacher accused of possessing child pornography is scheduled to enter a plea. 71-year-old john morrison is accused of possessing is and distributing hundreds of illegal videos. he was the director of evidence for nearly 20 years. we spoke to him shortly after his arrest and he said it's a misunderstanding and he is not

guilty. a school attack at paul revere. an adult family member showed up and began arguing with the girl and the argument turned physical. the girl was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. security, meantime, is being stepped up until they can track down the woman. police investigating a hole invasion. we have a look at the aftermath of that vacation. the woman said someone came to her door. not expecting visitors. the man kicked down her door and made his way in. she hid in her home and called police. the man evidently didn't take anything. police are still looking for him. right a san francisco neighborhood is taking an unwanted trip back in time only after a mistake made ream by a

peninsula. and 60 today in the north bay. in san francisco, look at low to mid-60s there. and we have had rain for several hours now. a lot of this working inland. we are getting the last push of this rain. we will start to see it winding down the next few hours. still as of now, pockets of heavy rain. some of the heaviest rain is now moving through the peninsula. moving closer to the south bay. although we are not seeing a lot of that now in san jose. it is is moving into the santa cruz mountains. another batch in the half moon bay not a lot of rain in san francisco. low clouds, mist and tkruz el. showers moving through a good chunk of the north bay from santa rosa, yountville and napa. hayward, will be moving to the tri-valley. it may be a slow drive-through

welcome back, everyone. 6:24. nbc bay area responds to ala fayette woman who says her shipment was damaged and the company wouldn't reimburse her. >> just trying to get that to her son. investigator chris chmura joins us with another on success story. chris. mary shipped a box full personal items from north carolina where she was visiting her son in her home in lafayette. she used fedex ground shipping and paid $1,000 to insure the box. two weeks later, the box arrived, split open. that's a picture she sent to us. she immediately called and said the company told her to takes her box to a claims office 35 miles away. they examined the box, took pictures of it but mary's claim was denied. she appealed, but that was denied too. she asked us for help.

are having isn't too bad. check in with pete suratos this morning. he is live where a tree has just been dangling on top of a home. good morning to you, laura. quite the wakeup call for the home owner. we're here on capital street in vallejo. let's show you what we are talking about. the tree crashing into the home in vallejo. she said it felt like an earthquake at 2:00 a.m. she was in with her family members. thankfully they were able to get out safely. she said she looked out the window and she saw this tree coming through her home. i did talk to not too long ago and asked her how she is doing this morning. >> i'm really tired. my back is killi me. and i'mtressed knowing i don't know where i'm going to go with my daus. all hotels don't take dogs. and we don't have family that's close by.

good morning to you, sam and laura. the passengers, when it comes to electronics devices, will only be able to carry on smartphones and medical devices. the trump administration and the department of homeland security says they have intelligence that indicates that terrorists are still trying to smuggle explosives on board airnes through electronic devices. the report from the government is n more specific than that. it does not indicate whether or not this is based on newly obtained intelligence. this started at midnight last night. within the past six and a half hours, the d.h. started a clock on nine airlines based in the middle east and north africa, giving them 96 hours to implement. but midnight saturday, passengers on the can only carry on smartphones, medical devices. laptops, tablets, portable dvds players and games must be checked in baggage. it affects 50 nondaily flights into the united states from the

police say the rage could have all been caused by an incident that happened inside the car. >> she was denied the return at the store, came out and was pretty angry about what had occurred in the store. >> well, the family said the driver was screaming and hitting the steering wheel when they saw her. police are trying to track the woman down. the cameras did not catch her license plate photo. they have her photo and know she was driving a silver honda with a dented hood. house lawmakers are on track navarro died last month when he was stand outside a nightclub in san jose, working as head of security. a bouncer stopped two of the six suspects from entering the club and confiscated a driver's license. navarro ran out to try to help during the altercation that follows. >> senate lawmakers plan on rolling up their sleeves and drilling down on the judicial philosophy for judge neil gorsuch. today questioning begins.

we'll seek prosecution later. >> chp is not saying if this is the same group of riders involved in another incident 10 days ago on 101 a. a woman's husband may be on the run with a teenager. investigators are calling it a dire situation. she's thought to be with her teacher, pat cummins, who allegedly connced her to leave town with him. the fbi said earlier this week he attempted to sexually exploit her. they were last seen in alabama. >> in peru, that country seeing its worst flooding in decade. mudslides and floods have already claimed 75 lives and destroyeds of homes in that country. powerful el nino rains are contributing to the disaster.

heavy rain moving through. the east bay and pa la getting the heaviest rain. we will catch a break later on today. getting more waves of rain moving through as of right now. looking at the north bay, lighter showers moving through yountville, napa, fairfield. it extends towards richmond. so seeing some of the rain moving through now. it has been raining heavily in. santa cruz mountains, 2.61 from mill valley is, close to two inches of rain. so in has been a pretty good soaker. an inch in fair fooled. close to an inch napa. we have seen rainfall totals

over half an inch in land, santa rosa, gilroy. palo alto, 0.3. as you step out the door, you need the rain boots and the umbrel umbrella. a lighter jacket needed. going into the timeline of what to expect, the next round of rain moves in early tomorrow morning. this may pack a slight chance of thunderstorms. dry on thursday. the next storm arrives on friday. this could be the heaviest rain producer out of the series of three storms. another round of rain late sunday night into early monday morning. so staying very active the few days. a few minutes ago, this is the view at heatherly. rain and snow mixed in. a chance of snow the next several days. we could have seven or eight inches of snow.

ill inmate to death. it is a story covered closely more than a year. they are facing murder charges for the death of michael tyree is august 2015. an attorney familiar with the case tells nbc bay area he expects the prosecution to emphasize e internal injuries tyree suffered the daye died. he said the leadership of the sheriff may be called into question. if the policies of the jail and training of the guards are an issue. police are looking for a woman who struck several pedestrians. pulling out of a walmart parking lot. it shows her aggressively backing up into the family behind her. she hits some of those family
