stormranger, mobile doppler radar is able to be moved around the bay area so we can get the best view of what's happening as you head out the door this morning. it gives us a very detailed view of also exactly where that rain is falling and what type of precipitation is coming out of some of these clouds. we're looking at the rain getting a little bit lighter for san rafael. just off to the east, we are getting the pockets of heavy rain moving closer to napa and vallejo right now. farther south we see very low visibility right toward the san rafael bridge. the rain continues to get heavier. moving through san francisco, pockets of heavy rain as well. as the seven-day forecast comes up at the bottom of the screen, you will see we will have clearing especially on saturday. but it looks very wet as you drive down the peninsula right now. pretty much all covered with light rain.

it also extends towards the east bay and the tri-valley with some a little bit of a break. we haven't seen the rain yet make it to the south bay. but it will be here soon. as we go through the rest of the morning, we are is still going to see heavy rain for the north bay. by 12:30, we're all covered with some rain and heavy downpours along with gusty winds that will be wrapping up later this evening. as we go into the weekend, much more clearing. looking very good for your saturday morning plains. the possibility of at least half an inch of rain. there may be spots of the santa cruz mountains getting an inch, possibly more as we go through the day. mike is tracking two crashes for highway 101. >> first we will show the road weather index. rain sweeping through from the peninsula. now pacifica. wet roadways on the road weather index. tracking two crashes for 101.

good morning. >> investigative reporter has been digging into why. guys, good morning. it's been one month since heavy rain spilled over anderson dam into coyote creek flooding more than 500 homes in san jose. the same communities flooding 20 years ago. since then, the santa clara water district spent $10.8 million planning and designing flood protection products. in between montague expressway. the water district said it needs another $450 million to construct those projects, money the water district doesn't currently have. so it put the project on hold to see if it could produce water flows further upstream closer to anderson dam for a similar flood protection at a cheaper price.

high-definition view of what's happening around the bay area. and we can even see down to street level where the heaviest lane is falling. we have that powered up this morning. you can tell there by the red beam where the rain continues to move in. where we see the yellows and the reds, heaviest rain moving into san francisco and parts of the peninsula and the north bay. it is is also starting to work into the east bay as well. as the rain moves in this morning, expect low visibility. and also some gusty winds. we are seeing in ports of the north bay right now a pretty steady downpour. it gets much heavier as you move east of pap that, cordelia and fairfield. drivers coming through that direction have to deal with very heavy rain. maybe even standing water on the roadways. it is picking up for san francisco right now with rainfall rates at about 0.3 per hour. with that,
