incredible scene in peru. a boeing 737 erupts into a flaming inferno. so while landing the plane swerved off the runway, its right wing scraped against the tarmac likely starting the fire. amazingly all 141 people on the flight evacuated safely without serious injuries. peruvian airlines say the pilots' expertise prevented this from becoming a major incident. look at those images. you think, wow, how bad that could turn out. >> incredibly, though, everybody is safe. >> to washington where a very different kind of donald trump was on display as the president reached out to democrats inviting senators and spouses to the white house for a bipartisan affair and making this abrupt aboutface. >> and i know that we're all going to make a deal on health care. that's such an easy one. i have no doubt that's going to happen quickly. i think it will actually. hopefully it will start being

bipartisan because everybody really wants the same thing. we want greatness for this country that we love. so i think we're going to have some very good relationships. right, chuck? i see chuck. hello, chuck. and i really think that will happen. >> the president was presumably speaking to senate democratic leader chuck schumer who 24 hours prior announced his plan to block trump's supreme court pick neil gorsuch. there are 28 democratic senators who announced decision to vote against trump's nominee. >> that as the administration comes under more scrutiny for it's possible ties to russia. after a new nbc exclusive report regarding former trump campaign manager paul manafort finds extensive business dealings in a small island nation that has authorities asking questions. we're joined by nbc's tracie potts live in washington. what more the you tell us? >> we're told treasury investigators are looking into this. nbc sent a team to cyprus, the

island nation in the mediterranean where paul manafort reportedly had more than a dozen accounts at a bank there before it closed, at least one of those accounts had millions of dollars, those millions of dollars came from a russia millionaire who was very closely tied to president vladimir putin, another link between someone on the trump campaign and a high ranking russian official or someone tied to the russian government. in this case the sources told nbc that money was being used to influence media and influence politics in the united states. keep in mind this happened years ago, before manafort was involved in the trump team or in the trump campaign. he's denied that. the treasury department involved, those accounts are closesed, there are still questions about whether or not manafort, before he started working for mr. trump, was a paid consultant to influence

u.s. politics for russian officials. >> a crucial timeline there with that information. nbc's tracie potts in washington. thanks. in response, a spokesman for paul manafort released a statement saying all of man fort's companies were legitimate entities and established for lawful ends add, quote, mr. man fort has no specific personal recollection of the shutdown of the cyprus accounts which he says took place during a banking cris crisis. he preetdly denied working for the russian government. >> now to the growing controversy brewing over a video shot by a concerned mother at an airport when she had to stand by as her son was pulled aside by tsa and patted down in a really personal way. it comes weeks after the agency enacted more thorough procedures allowing screeners to touch passengers near delicate areas. some are asking is it going too far. nbc's tom costello has this report. >> reporter: 13-year-old aaron

was barefoot in a t-shirt and shorts pulled aside for a pat down at dfw airport. it lasted a full two minutes. >> when this officer was touching me in certain areas i was taught nobody should touch you in that area. >> with a supervisor watching the officer first checked aaron's chest, and back. then his waist and pockets. and aaron's back side. then checking aaron's legs right up to his groin. again, checking his chest. and again, his legs. then the front of aaron's shorts, twice. >> whenever i was getting patted down i never knew why i actually did wrong. >> aaron was pulled aside because his lap top tripped the explosive sensors. but his mom says when she complained that aaron suffers from sensory processing disorder, which concause anxiety when touched, she was told they would not be flying to san diego for vacation if he wasn't patted

down. >> this man needs to get his hands off my child. i think that was my gut reaction. it was excessive. when he opened his waist band, that outraged me. >> reporter: tsa says it followed approved procedures observed by the mother and two police officers called to mitigate the concerns of the mother. it lasted 45 minutes causing the family to miss their flight. facebook lit up. this is abusive. former government aviation security experts tell nbc news this patdown was awfully long. >> seemed like it was more than it needed to be based on viewing the video and the appearance of the kid. >> thank you to tom costello. >> in response to the report the tsa said they are looking into whether an alternative procedure should have been used on the child while insisting terrorists are determined to bring down aircraft they have used children. a massachusetts man is lucky to be alive. firefighters rescued him from his burning apartment. they pulled the man out of his

third floor apartment. flames just inches from their backs. one threw the 82-year-old over his shoulders and carried him down a ladder. our sister station identified him as paul malloy. neighbors say the rescue was life or death since malloy has trouble walking. he and another firefighter were hospitalized with burn injuries. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> the storm chasing community is mourning three of their own today all killed when their cars collided in texas. officials say the accident happened when a black suburban ran a stop sign and crashed into a jeep. officials say the accident was not weather related, two of the victims were weather channel contractors including 57-year-old kelly williamson, the network issued a statement saying the two were beloved members of the weather community and sent condolences to all three families. >> shows you the dangers there of severe weather in the skies there, of course, and on the ground as well. we know over a dozen tornadoes in the past 24 hours including

this one in stanford, texas, whipping up debris. little damage reported as the twisters moved along open fields. some storms provided baseball-sized hail along the way. >> nbc meteorologist bill karins is joining us now. what are you seeing? >> obviously with the hail there and the tornadoes, it was dangerous. storms occurred where we want them to occur, over the rural areas. storms weakened overnight, hundreds of thousands of people in the dallas area, 85-mile-per-hour wind gusts reported. maybe a few tornadoes kind of like yesterday, but then tomorrow will be the big dangerous day. already a moderate risk, possibility of not just tornadoes but a strong tornado or two. that's where you get the dangerous ones. get into some of the mix if

sally yates and her testimony regarding fired nsa chief michael flynn for his previously undisclosed ties to russia. that as republican congressman walter jones becomes the first gop lawmaker to call for nunes to recuse himself from his russia investigation amid growing questions on his ability to lead. still nunes says he's not going anywhere, while paul ryan says he has his full support. >> in kentucky, a final maim hope depot security guard got run over while chasing a shoplifter. the man is there in red, you see him run out with a tool box. next thing you know, the woman is going outside the door, right on the hood of the suspect's car. he slams the vehicle to a heart, knocking her to the ground. her husband says she got a concussion and bruised her hip. police have not identified the suspect because his license plate was covered. i'm sure a lot of people there who saw it, hopefully they can help out police.

in the pacific northwest we're watching more rain, of course. we're getting socked on i-5 from seattle to portland. it will taper off a little bit as we go through the second half of the day. better news is once we finally get rid of this, we have a period of dry weather that will come in as we take the storm and move through the inner mountain west. thursday will be a decent day. you deserve it. they need nice weather after the late wet winter and early spring. >> bill, thank you. fox news host bill o'reilly got in hot water after making these remarks about congresswoman maxine water. >> what does that mean, bill? >> i didn't hear a word she said. i was looking at the james brown wig.
