warmer temperatures and then one chance of rain moving through the bay area. here is a live look outside as you get this wednesday started. it's clear and 52 degrees. 54 degrees in oakland and san francisco. it's 46 now as you step out the door in napa. highs today, the mid 70s for the inland areas and upper 60s along the coast and in san francisco. we are going to talk about that chance of rain in a few minutes. mike as a great start on the roads. >> we'll start with that line because we don't get to use that. great condition and smooth flow of traffic around the bay on the outskirts out of the tri valley. here through the south bay i want to zoom in here. we saw northbound 17 getting slower for the last few minutes. pro approaching the east shore

freeway a smooth drive. back to you. >> looks good. breaking news, a situation going on a vehicle hits a gas line at about 1:00 this among. several streets are blocked off. crews are working to turn off the gas. >> pete is live with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. i just spoke with pg&e and it sound like this shelter may have been lifted because crews were able to temporarily fix that line. that's where that car crashed through the fence and to the right you can see crews working on that gas line. some of the video we were able to get at the scene earlier this morning. this happened at about 1:00 a.m. and there was one person in the car. fire not speculating on how fast that car was going, but we know that person was sent to a

hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. that gas line is temporarily fixed at this time rn, but theyd to open up the ground to shut it off. >> the technician arrived to evaluate it and attempted to shut off the supply line, but unfortunately where it was severed it's on the supply side not the discharge side so shutting off the valve didn't prove to stop the flow of gas. >> reporter: a live look at crews working on that gas line. they have temporarily been able to fix it. they'll be for a few hours to do a permanent fix on the line. an alert was sent out to shelter and turn over gas appliances. it looks like the shelter may be lifted. we'll talk more about that in

the next hour. >> we'll check back in with you soon. more breaking news now. this is out of new york where three people had to be treated after being exposed to hazardous material this morning at la guard yeah airport this morning. a 911 call came in early this morning at terminal b involving an issue where someone's luggage. within the last few minutes we've learned the scene is cleared and the incident stemmed from a food substance. there was no impact on flights. a look at firefighters taking down an apartment fire in concord. the fire department posted these photos. the complex is off clayton road from ellis lake. the fire broke out about 12:45 in the morning. firefighters took control of that blaze within a half hour. we'll keep you updated.

happening today residents of san francisco sinking millennium tower are laying out their claims. an attorney will explain a filing. this is a story we uncovered last year. homeowners hope to force developers to come up with a fix for the sinking tower. that lawsuit is filed as owners hope for an out of court settlement. this morning concerns are growing among survivors of the massive apartment fire in oakland. more than 50 of them living at evacuation shelters could soon be without a place to stay. the temporary shelter is closing this week. donations keep pouring into that shelter. >> there are people who need help.

today, tomorrow it's uncertain. >> the red cross will continue to collect donations. the cause of monday's fire at the building continues. four people died in that fire. perhaps more answers maybe who dropped the ball during last month's coyote creek flood. the board chairman sent out a letter to the san jose mayor. the letter lays blame squarely on the city of san jose saying authorities received plenty of warning from the district and national weather service, but failed to evacuate thousands of residents who became trapped. you're looking at video of the rescue that happened. coming up, remembering a san francisco woman who came to symbolize the fight over housing. her case made headlines for years. well tell you why the timing of

a vigil is to be held for a

scenes. they're having a rough go over there. >> yeah. that's what we expect during this time of year in the midwest in the south as we start to see those cold fronts rolling through and those storms have been strong. they've had an active start to the severe weather year. as we look at what's happening in the bay area we are seeing all calm weather and that will continue with the exception of a slight chance of some showers moving through tomorrow. as you step out the door right now in the trivalley it's 48 degrees. 54 in san francisco and oakland and it's 70 degrees in the peninsula. 75 degrees in the south bay and tri-valley. we will have another warm afternoon for march. as the seven-day forecast comes up you'll see we'll have that one chance of rain in the forecast and that's tomorrow.

it's all because of this system moving across the pacific northwest. it's been bringing rain for several days now. for us by the time it gets here, it will lose a little bit of its punch. this is what the computer models do with that system. we start to see the clouds moving in by 3:30 this afternoon and mostly clear skies for at least the start of the day. the north bay will start to see the clouds moving in and then showers very early tomorrow morning. but the rain that we will see will be very light and scattered. not all of us will see showers moving through. by lunch time it's out of here. we'll have a sunny afternoon and we'll go back to our dry weather. how much rain could we see out of this? we'll be measuring the rain in hundreds of an inch. this should not cause any issues for the bay area. we'll be watching thursday because we have the series going on at at&t park. it will be cool and temperatures cooler than day.

starting out at 60s degrees. by first pitch it will be in the upper 50s. then through the seven-day forecast we'll see highs reaching into the upper 60s for san francisco for the start of the weekend. 70 degrees on saturday. it's going to be an amazing weekend and really warm temperatures for the inland areas up to 78 degrees and 74 on sunday. as we head over to the roads. >> we're looking at our speed sensors around the bay. it's 4:50 in the morning so we don't expect heavy volume. 22 minutes to the interchange. no problems for the tri-valley. a smooth flow of traffic through the bay area as well. there may be equipment.

extend his order until the state's lawsuit works its way through the courts. the travel ban is diskrcriminaty against muslims. we know we are almost in april. tax day quickly approaching. a warning about a tax scam sweeping the country. >> we have the numbers and warnings from top tax officials. >> reporter: good morning. senior irs officials tell me that a growing number of scammers use these type of gift cards to cheat thousands of taxpayers out of millions of hard earned tax dollars. the department inspector general for tax administration. he tells me his office receives nearly 40,000 calls from victims reporting some kind of phone scam during the last year. that's a sharp increase from
