when a church bus and pickup truck collided in texas. the bus was carrying a group of senior citizens returning home after a three-day church retreat. one survived. that person was hospitalized remains in critical condition. the driver of the pickup truck survived and was airlifted to the hospital and is now in stable condition. the wreck happened on a two-lane highway 75 west of san antonio. authorities are investigating. >> for reasons unknown, the truck veered into the southbound lane and struck the bus head on. >> the ntsb sent investigators to the scene to determine the cause of the deadly tragedy. >> 48 million americans are at risk of severe strms. over the past 24 hours storms tore through the south, winds up to 90 miles per hour. many homes were destroyed and 200,000 lost power. in seymour, texas you could hear

canceled shows there in protest. the associated press estimates the law could have cost north carolina over $3 billion in lost business over the next 12 years. governor roy cooper says the new deal will repair north carolina's reputation. overnight president trump travel restriction was dealt a major blow, a federal judge in hawaii extended his block on the president's so-called travel ban on refugees and people from predominantly muslim countries so that the administration will not be able to enforce the executive order. mr. trump's on the issue since taking office. in his argument hawaii's attorney general quoted mr. trump saying the ban is a watered down version of the original telling the court we cannot fault the president for being politically incorrect but fault him for being constitutionally incorrect. on twitter the ag office posted this statement, the court will not crawl into a corner pull the shutters closed and pretend it has not seen what it has. the white house continuing to defend the executive order saying the ban falls within the

president's power to protect national security. this morning first daughter ivanka trump will take on a new role as she becomes a federal employee. her title assistant to the president. she released a statement saying i have heard the concerns some have with my advising the president in my personal capacity, while voluntarily complying with all ethics rules and i will serve as an unpaid employee in the white house office subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees. this was a complete about-face from her initial thoughts right after the election. >> people think that you're going to be part of the administration, ivanka. >> no, i'm going to be a daughter but i've said throughout the campaign that i am very passionate about certain issues and that i want to fight for them. >> but you won't be --

relationship since president trump first communicated with taiwan. tragedy strikes in the skies as an american airlines pilot dies mid flight on his way to an albuquerque airport. the control tower there received a scary message. >> we've got an issue with one of the pilots. i declare emergency. like to have a medical crew meet us on landing. >> the plane was able to land safely and medical personnel met it at the gate. american airlines issued this statement saying, we are deeply saddened by the death of first officer william "mike" grubgs and they are taking care of the first officer's family and colleagues and our prayers with them during this difficult time. >> ours are as well. a lot of weather causing havoc. nbc meteorologist bill karins is here. >> yesterday we got lucky, only one tornado reported. today could be worse and should be worse. we are watching a targeting of

around the world at the women of courage award ceremony. it's the second consecutive public event after hosting senators and their spouses at the white house the day before. she announced the hiring of communications adviser on monday. leading the news on thursday, the white house is telling congress to let bahrain buy f-16s in a $5 billion deal. that's 19 fighter jets made by the american manufacturer lockheed martin. it will include 23 engines, radar and other commitment. the obama administration held back on allowing the sale of this military hardware because of concerns over bahrain's human rights record. now the deal will move full steam ahead once it receives congressional approval. >> as air strikes rain down in mosul, iraq, a top u.s. commander in the fight warning of more civilian casualties to come. with 500 coalition bombs dropped in mosul each and every week extremists are turning desperate in the battle resulting in a massive loss of life. like the one reported earlier this month in which over 200
