that's all right. peninsula, overcast. tri-valley, 53 degrees. we're expecting to see high clouds. what that's going to do is bring mostly cloudy skies into the evening. at least we'll stay dry and warm up into the 70s. so you'll have one more day to enjoy the outdoors because tomorrow, the weather pattern changes but i'll have a closer look at the timeline in a bit. tracking a b.a.r.t. delay? >> already reports of a b.a.r.t. delay, although it's not because of weather. right here, we're hearing about a mechanical problem that often is an issue with overnight maintenance vehicles. some sort of equipment problem here, sfo to pittsburg. they're saying up to 20-minute delays for the first trains getting utof the area. the readways are moving clearly, so you can drive routh now. an easy option. getting to the bay bridge, no delays. fore minutes from highway 4 to

the berkeley curve. >> breaking news. an intense search for a missing 4-month-old baby girl. she was taken by her father. >> kris sanchez joining us live in front of the mountain view police headquarters this morning. police do have some information to go off here. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. we just got this in to our newsroom so we'll tell you what we know. at this point, mountain view police are not calling for an amber alert. they're calling this an endangered and missing baby. they know who the father is, what kind of car he might be in. as we know, 4-month-old babies need particular care. take alic at the picture of the father that mountain view police released to us. he's michael leonard wallin, a 45-year-old white man with brown hair and brown eyes. he's 6'2", police say, and 220 pounds. he has full body tattoos including tattoos on the tops of husband hands. when he was last scene, he wassane white golden state

warriors t-shirt. this is not the car they were in, but it is like this one. a 2007 nissan altima four-door sedan with paper plates. police did not specify if it was light blue or dark blue, but it has front damage and rear damage from a recent collision. out here, another look at dad and baby. the baby is just 4 month old. her name is madeleine. 24 inches long, 15 pounds. when she was last seen, she was in a pink ballerina outfit with a white top on. that's when dad took her, around 8:30 last night here in mountain view. if you see the dad or baby or the car, you should call mountain view police immediately. i'm going to get back on the phone and try to clarify why it is this is a missing and endangered situation and not an amber alert. we know the viewers like to help out with the amber alerts when they see the flashing signs. i'll try to answer that question by 5:30. if we answer it sooner, we'll

bring it to you add 5:00. >> all right, thank you very much for that leg work. >> in the meantime, 4:33. new this morning, the scene has been cleared after a deadly crash the chp says may have involved a wrong-way driver. this happened after 10:00 last night on westbound highway 84 in fremont at thornton avenue. one person ended up dying in a head-on crash. another person suffered minor injuries. >> richmond police are on the hunt this morning for a man they say shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in front of her two children. that man is considered armed and dangerous. the shooting was actually caught on video. police say yesterday morning 43-year-old lawyer dashon mcbride pulled his car up next to his ex-girlfriend, franklin. that's when officers say mcbride opened fire and drove away. two of her sons were in the back seat. nbc bay area spoke to a woman driving a car right behind franklin. >> i told him, hurry up. i heard a shot.

>> my heart is torn. i'm sorry. i'm broken. i'm trying to hold up for my daughter and my wife and stuff, but i'm asking everybody, if you're out there and know him, please turn him in. >> mcbride was driving a 2007 silver four-door mercedes-benz with paper plates. a $2 million warrant out for his arrest. here's a live look at actually a growing memorial for that victim. we'll have a live report coming up at 5:00 a.m. >> certainly a horrible tragedy there. we'll continue to update you. in the meantime, a push right now to help renters in san francisco from being unfairly evicted from their homes. two laws have been introduced to make it harder for landlords to evict tenants by claiming they plan to live in the property. more than 8,000 residents have been evicted in just the last four years. 8,000. and owner move-in evictions doubled in the last five years. our unit has been looking into the evictions and you can watch our full report.

>> a recent stream of coyote sightings is prompting anman control leaders to hold a meeting in san francisco. not clear how many coyotes live in san francisco, but there have been frequent sightings in and around parks. coyotes usually avoid humans but they can go after pets. they will join a conservation group to talk about ways to try to co-exist with coyotes. >> coming up next, more witness testimony in the contentious trial of correctional deputies. those men charged with beating an inmate to death are facing accusations of repeated targeted behavior. we'll tell you who's making the claims next. rev

well, right now, a school and a neighborhood in napa this morning still recovering from the chaos yesterday. police officers shot and killed an armed suspect. this drama unfolding a short distance from west park elementary school. police were responding to report of a man shooting a gun on bueno street after a fight with a neighbor. officers set up a perimeter and then the gunman sped from his garage and fired at officers. officers fired right back, terrifying parents who had already rushed to the school. >> we ran off to the school, and my mom got locked down in the principal's office at the school, telling them there was gunshots. while we were driving away, we heard tons of fire. tons of shots. >> a second ago, you see the shot of the car on the right

side of the screen. that's the driver's vehicle that crashed into a tree and died a the scene. so far, his name has not been released. >> 4:39 right now. more witnesses will take the stad today in the trial of three deputies charged with beating an inmate to death. juan testified he and michael tyree were both housed in the same wing. he reiterated to the court what he told nbc bay area previously, that the accused officer targeted him before going into tyree's cell. here's his lawyer. >> three correctional officers repeatedly hit him in the head. they twisted his arm. they bent his arm behind his back. >> he said he and tyree were housed in the same unit because both were diagnosed with mental health issueser. >> 4:40 on your wednesday. if you live in novato and wonder what it takes to earn a police badge, now is your opportunity. the police department and officers have an eight-week-long

a check of weather and traffic real quickly. an update to give you as we effort a look at the bay bridge. we know it's still out there somewhere. san francisco behind us. we have a closure tell you about on i-80 that happened overnight. >> caltrans closed that off ramp. work through the morning. you know about that. they're going to open the ramp in about 15 minutes. good news for commuters this morning. just in time for people to head out the door. >> we'll closely follow that one. >> mike is always tracking everything. >> you and your wazers. >> we're trying to soak it all up. of course, this comes just in

time for the weekend. >> the timing of these systems always seem to fall in line with outdoor plans especially on the weekend. if weekends are your days off to enjoy the outdoors, you want to bring it in. we're seeing partly cloudy skies. mostly cloudy skies and even overcast skies especially along the coastline. that's because we do have those high clouds and that's going to keep us definitely on the cloudier side for today. at least we're going to be dry. right now, waking up to mild temps in the 50s. 47 in the north bay. but the good news is that today it's going to be a dry day across the bay area. so definitely head outside and enjoy this dry weather. here's a quick check of what to expect for today. a high of 77 in san jose. los gatos, 76 by the east bay, walnut creek, 76. oakland, 72, and pleasanton at 77. we're definitely going to warm up nicely yet again, especially along the peninsula, expect some showers as early as tomorrow. but for today, well, going to be definitely on the cloudy side of

things. san francisco, 66. outer sunset, 65. and in the north bay, 73. novato, 72. point reyes, 63. and actually, the north bay is expected to see the first of the showers early on tomorrow before the remainder of the bay area gets hit by that rain. pollen report for today, if you're wondering about your allergies, we have a mix going. trees right now is high. grass is moderate. mold and weeds are low. and tree pollen type is oak, mulberry, and pine. definitely make sure to do whatever it is you need to do before heading outside for today because we have that storm arriving on thursday, by tomorrow, and here's a quick check of the timeline so far. thursday, by about 7:00 a.m., areas along the north bay and of course san francisco and along the peninsula will start seeing a few morning scattered showers but becoming widespread by about 8:00, 8:30 with the heaviest pockets in the north bay, and yes, that is snow. sierra snow is expected to get a decent amount of snowfall as

well. now, that rain will carry over into thursday night and friday morning. right now, friday is looking like it's going to pack the biggest punch right now. especially for commuters early on. so if you have an early morning friday commute, expect to see slick roads and unfortunately very windy conditions. gusting up to 45-plus miles per hour. by 4:30, look at all that snow coming down. moving down to the south bay. the south bay is going to be the biggest impact early on. then the showers do carry over from friday into saturday, unfortunately, but at least the winds look like they'll be calming down and we clear out nicely by sunday. and then on monday morning, we have a weaker system that could bring a chance of some spotty showers. here's a quick check of what we're looking at. 61 right now. showers look like they're making their arrival later on in the evening, but on friday, if you pay attention, wind and rain. the stormiest of the day. anywhere between a half to an inch and a half of rain, and then the showers carry over into

saturday. by sunday, we clear out just a bit and chance of showers makes a return on monday. inland areas expect to see a very big impact on friday. so make sure to take that extra time on friday, but for now, let's enjoy today. i know, mike, you're tracking a serious crash in san jose. >> very serious. overall, the freeways are moving well. all around the bay, there's a little slowing into the tri-valley. we'll talk about that in a second. i want to take you down here just off 280. this is where we have a deadly crash reported. chp taking care of it on morepark. that's parallel to 280 through this stretch. a deadly crash reported. more park at cypress, which is a few blocks away from the saratoga on and off ramps. those are reportedly clear. san jose pd taking care of a deadly crash involving two vehicles. one slammed into a wall. the other had an injury, the person taken from the scene. police activity closes off morepark, so you may be rerouted around the monterey apartments. the harker school on the other

side of the roadway, on the other side of tear atoga and not effected by this activity. we're tracking this, again, moorpark at cypress, a deadly crash off 280 parallel to the freeway. meanwhile, the rest of the south bay, the freeways look great. looking toward the tri-valley with the slowing i talked about coming in out of the altamont pass. the waze system shows you a little slowing and we see that on our maps as well. the slower drive out of tracy and into grant line road. they say you can try to use the altamont pass road, but it still takes you five minutes longer. stick on the freeway if you can. waze can give you help if you're on the roadway as well. comparing routes. join our waze team and help the community out. help the entire community by clecking on the magnifying glass, your name, and then team. select nbc bay area and you'll be a part of our commute. we can be a part of yours and we'll help each other out 24/7.
