san francisco. we had rain for sonoma county and spotty showers. make sure you grab the umbrella. we will have some rain approaching mill valley and once again san francisco within the next 30 to 40 minutes. we will see more rounds of rain and we will have heavy downpours. we'll have the all important easter forecast. that's the toughest spot right now, that's the warning around the bay as well but right now we're focused on the bay bridge. we've had one line for quite some time, that did clear over the last five minutes but in the backup, there's another crash. let's look from the emeryville camera. there you go, just before you

get to the tower over to just past the tower. all new this morning, a pursuit in the east bay. california highway patrol say it started on highway 4 in antioch just after 1:00. officers say the suspect eventually crashed his car as you see into a fire hydrant. that's in the area of second and l streets. the driver is in the hospital being treated. road closures still in effect after a two car crash late last night in the south bay before 10:00 p.m. on santa theresa boulevard and highway 85 near the oak ridge mall in san jose. the driver of one car died. the other driver was critically injured. there are no passengers in either car. the chp expects the streets to reopen in time for the morning commute. on the peninsula, the chp is

investigating the death of a pedestrian on 92. west of el camino rheal in san mateo. they say an suv struck somebody walking in the westbound lanes. they're trying to figure out how that person ended up in the highway in the first place. anger boiling over in san francisco. this after the d.a.'s decision to exonerate two police officers who shot and killed a young man in 2015. >> amaljustice for amill car pe. >> reporter: the d.a. decided not to shoot and kill amilcar perez lopez. >> an animated reenactment says he showed the 2015 shooting was justified because officers

feared for their lives and that perez-lopez lunged. an autopsy shows amilcar perez l lopez was shot five times in the back and once in the side. his family released a written statement which said "we have always anticipated the district attorney would refuse to bring charges against the officers. the long-awaited decision comes as no surprise." leaders of a san francisco minority group say the d.a.'s decision is fuelling resentment towards police that's reaching a critical point. >> when it gets like that it's going to explode. >> it seems like we can never find justice ever, ever, ever. >> reporter: thom jensen, nbc by a area news. police are asking anyone who witness a 75-year-old woman being struck and killed in downtown san leandro to come forward.

city hall yesterday. these activists wanted city leaders to hear them before next tuesday's vote on two policies that would protect tenants for evictions. they warn the housing crisis will hit everyone soon. >> why does this happen? nobody cares till it happens to them, i pray that it doesn't happen to you. >> with evictions now they can just evict anybody at any time with no real reason that's why i feel just cause evictions are needed. >> according to san jose city reports, there have been more than 2,000 no-cause evictions over the last six years. and happening today, another protest by renters, this time in san francisco. activists are calling for taxation of corporate landlords and developers. they also want anti-tenant laws to be repealed. the rally will take place at 10:30 this morning at the association of realtors on grove street. some experts apparently see the answer to the bay area's housing crunch in those granny units. >> that's a take away from a new

survey conducted by the bay area council and reported by the east bay times. the survey found one out of every four bay area homeowners would consider adding those accessory housing units if the restrictions were eased and if the units were simple to build. that many new units would add about 400,000 additional dwellings to the bay area and put a big dent in the current problem. some news on climate change. ocean levels could rise between three and ten feet by the end of the century if serious action isn't taken to stop global climate change. that is the conclusion of a new state-commissioned report which gives about a two-thirds chance bay area ocean levels will rise three and a half feet in that time span. researchers say the potential for rising sea revel levels is greater than what was previously thought. >> might have ocean front property after all. a soggy start to thursday morning. how long will this rain stick around today kari?

dramatic new video this morning out of washington state.. that's where neighbors came . dramatic new video to show you out of washington state this morning. no horsing around. there the horse goes. neighbors all coming together there to save the horse. he fell into a sinkhole earlier this week and the only reason that he was saved was because a hiker who happened to be coming by saw the horse trapped. firefighters and an excavation company came out to work to free the horse out of there. his name is cooper. that i used ladders and plywood to keep the dirt and rocks around the area from falling on top of him while they were doing that. >> then he just, you know, walks on out. >> mose mossys out. >> exactly. i love horses. i'm going horse back riding this week. well, rain moves in sunday

but saturday looks like a beautiful day to get out there and we're all making plans trying to figure out what to do. the rain has been off and on. we'll see that as we go through the day. it's still very wet out there and as you head out for a drive, the cars in front of you may be kicking up water. looking at that seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen we will see that rain moving out and for the weekend looking very nice. as of now, temperatures are very cool in the north bay. we're in the upper 40s in santa rosa and napa. you need a heavier jacket as you step out the door and don't forget the umbrella in san francisco. it's 53 degrees and we're seeing the rain rolling right back in. so you thought the rain was done. not yet. this is the kind of weather we'll see throughout the day. will it rain, then it moves out. seeing rain moving in to clov cloverdale.

there still may be showers moving through as we go through the day. looking at san francisco and mill valley as the rain rolls in it will be wet for the morning drive. windshield wipers on. we will see more of these hit or miss showers. they may be heavy at times and this takes us into the morning commute to where visibility may be low and as you continue your drive we'll see the rain backing off. even at 1:30 this afternoon this low pressure system and that cold front still spins scattered showers our way into the afternoon but it looks like for the evening commute a lot of this will be out of here. we'll get sunshine. but there may be some sun in between those showers moving through. temperature wise we're up to 63 in san jose for the east bay, 60 degrees in hayward and concord up to 63, san mateo 58, definitely cooler today behind this cold front. novato is 59 degrees. here's a live look outside at

san jose. head out the door with long sleeves and pants as you try to avoid puddles around the bay area. as we head into the forecast for easter sunday, look at that, more rain moving back in during the morning. while you're going to the morning services, you'll need not only a jacket but the umbrella and maybe a poncho over the dress. even on monday into tuesday of next week we'll still see more showers moving through, i'll keep you updated on that. mike is keeping us updated on what's happening in san jose and the san mateo bridge. yes, san jose as you reported we have southbound 87 we have this issue. it's marked as a crash but the update says standing water 87 around the airport. so we typically see that. we'll track that but no one is

also data on unemployment and inflation. markets are closed for good friday. the dow falling 59 points to 20,591, the nasdaq down 30 to 5836. facebook says its messenger app has 1.2 billion users, that's 700 million more than when it made the service a stand alone app in 2014. it's also the same size as facebook's other messaging service what's app and massively larger than most consumer apps on the market. it's also evolved adding features such as chat 5, video calls. and yep is glp is getting into drone delivery service. the company is teaming up with a startup called marble to use its wheeled drone that's designed to carry perishable items. it's testing the robot for unmanned food deliveries in san francisco as part of its eat 24 service. for now human handlers are chaperoning the robot to make sure everything goes smoothly. back over to you. >> until they get the training wheels off.

new details in a 230ur decade old murder case. it looks like the suspect in the gypsy hill killings will finally be going to trial. according to the mercury news, rodney howbauer will be standing trial in august for the deaths of two of five women killed during a string of homicides in 1976. their bodies were discovered on gypsy hill road in pacifica. he has been in prison for the last 40 years and a judge had to find him fit to stand trial aga again. 28-year-old jose perez of oakland was arrested on sunday, a day after the shooting. newark police say perez and two others robbed a union city man and then shot and killed him. officers are still searching for two other suspects. we're getting our first look at portions of a manifesto believed to be written by the man at the center of a nationwide man hunt. the 161 page document allegedly written by joseph jakubowski

details how he says the government has wronged him. he goes on to call the government a gang of terrorists. the manifesto was mailed to president trump. jakubowski wrote he's not afraid to die. he's been on the run for more than a week after allegedly stealing 18 guns from a wisconsin gun store. closing a chapter in america's history. a statue of abraham lincoln's assassin will be removed from the lincoln presidential library and museum. the name of john wilkes booth will always be associated with america's 16th president but recently the library decided to at least change the statue. the statue of booth used to be seen at an exhibit of the white house. it showed the lincoln family standing outfront with booth lurking nearby. again, the statue has since been removed. the san francisco library introducing a new library card that will come in handy for thousands of students. it's called the scholar card. it's an all access pass that connects over 55,000 san francisco unified students to millions of free resources.
