joining us, i'm laura garcia cannon. >> i'm sam brock, enjoy the wild weather while it lasts with we have today, tomorrow. >> it will be off and on the next several days. i know some people are enough already. we had so much rain this winter and it doesn't look to let up any time soon. so we got a little of a break now. leave the umbrella by the door before you head out. here's a live look at palo alto, all dry this morning, it's a different story from what we had 24 hours ago. the temperature trend in sunnyvale will be a little on the cool side today. we start out at 55 degrees and make it into the low 60s. a jacket needed all day long. also the sun glasses, with that sun beating. into the weekend, of course, we are talking about some changes and rain for easter weekend. more on that coming up in six minutes. mike has more changes at the bay bridge. >> that's right. some are good, some are bad, one is good, one is bald. over here, the south bay peninsula, even tri-valley, no

major slowing, coming over towards the bay bridge, it's very well. we have this slowing at the toll plaza, the issue on the span, itself. the crash did clear and treasure island on the map, you see this piece starting to move over to the san francisco approach. the incline improves right there. i will circle this. i will show you the like picture. we are looking at the backup. the metering lights are on. the backup is there. there you go, send it back to you, guys. >> mike, you know, laura was telling us about this at the very top of our show, breaking news this morning, new video coming into the newsroom within the last couple of hours. this is the footage that shows the massive bomb that the u.s. military dropped in afghanistan in mountainous terrain there in the eastern part of the country. 36 isis militants were killed when the u.s. dropped its largest non-nuclear device ever unleashed in combat. so far, no reports of civilians being injured. u.s. official sassty massive blast targeted a network of

caves and tunnels. happening today, santa clara county and the city of san francisco are taking the president to court over a battle of sanctuary cities heats up. >> pete is live to explain why bay area officials are asking for an injunction against the president, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. an nbc area is learning the deputy u.s. attorney general, that's the second in command to attorney general jeff sexes will be here at the federal courthouse this morning, arguing on behalf of president trump, for this executive order that would de-fund sanctuary cities. so we will have the city of san francisco and santa clara county in this courthouse later this morning, calling on an injunction of this order, which would withhold federal funds from cities refuse to detain undocumented immigrants on behalf of u.s. immigration and customs enforcement. all this is happening today as a new report from the center for american progress suggests that sanctuary city versus less

crime, lower unemployment and even lower poverty rate than cities without that status. it's a report to the santa clara county sheriffs department welcomes. >> it's good to see the validation by a very reputable study that there is less crime with these kind of politics. >> now the county officials with espoke to also added that the order could result in a loss of $1.7 billion for the county. as i mentioned at the top of the report t. deputy u.s. attorney general for jeff sexes is expected to fly in this morning to be here for that court hearing. that court hearing is set for 9:00 a.m.. we are live in san francisco. you see all the people standing on the strip watching this. the fire started just before 11:00 last night. it shut down traffic on the vegas strip. nobody was injured, in fact no, guests were evacuated. the fire was contained to the roof of a high retail resort. vacaville police are investigating a triple shooting overnight. police didn't release many details. they say all three victims are expected to survive. police are trying to identify a suspect. happening today, a rally for perez lopez, a protest against the san francisco district attorney's decision. the protest is at noon on mient street. they say they shot lopez after he lunged at them with a knife. an autopsy shows he was shot a total of five times in the back once in the side. a football all time great

trying to do something great. then a heartless crime, the theft of a football, signed by hall of framer 49er jerry rice, it was meant to help children in need. these are pictures from the event. organizers show a man walking off right there with the football in his hands. rice attend thad event. he signed the baum, which was then auctioned off to benefit special needs children at an orphanage in chosen. the winning bid, $3,500 bucks. >> it's sad to see this kind of thing happen, especially when people are all trying to show love for this part of the orphanage. >> a devastating crime there. it turns out the baum was actually stole an it is winning bidder was posing for a photo with rice. bart's spring station is busy, keeping escalator repairs now busy. chronicle reports it has been listed on the escalated status page. we went to that page.

it is 6:12 right now. canada could soon become the largest developed country to decriminalize pot t. canadian government introduced new legislation this week that would legalize recreational marijuana use across the country. the plan is to have a legalized pot place system by june of next year. several states have legalized recreational marijuana, it's still illegal under federal law. safety preparations under way this morning for this year's boston marathon t. top city officials are discussing safety during the marathon for obvious reasons. more than 27,000 runners are expected to participate this year, while thousands more, of course, will gather along the course and finish line t. marathon takes place on monday. happening today, bay area asian american groups express their concerns, showing a united airline passenger tracked from an airplane. you have undoubtedly seen the video by now, dr. david dao

forcibly removed from the plane. his attorney says he suffered a broken nose and lost teeth. asia pacific islanders will join the china town group to air their grievances about what happened. well, it turn out, united airlines is dealing with another unfortunate incident from that very same day involving an unlucky passenger aboard a second flight. in this case the airline says a scorpion fell from on overhead bin and stung a man mid-flight. the plane was on its what i from houston to calgary last sunday. united tells cnbc the flight crew contacted doctors on the ground who eventually provided some guidance, excuse me the man's life was not considered if danger. >> laura, you said stung there it turns out the pilots have zinc of their own. good morning, the pilot's union, lawyer remarks putting all of this problem with dr. david dao squarely on the city of chicago and the chicago airport police. >> that i say that response you saw on strd was grossly inappropriate, their words.

peninsula and it's oh my camera dropped out there in the north bay. 39 degrees and in san francisco, 48 degrees, as we get a look at the highs this afternoon, 63 in the peninsula, in the tri-valley, we will see a high of 63 degrees, you get the kids up, get them ready, make sure they have on a nice warm jacket heading out the door, clear, cool, at recess, it will be warming umm, some sunshine, a nice day outside, this is the last day for my son before he has spring breakneck week. maybe your kids around spring break right now. so we are seeing the rotating around the bay area. off and on rain in the forecast, even through next week, because of there next storm system, set to move in, so as of now, we still have the dry conditions and the storm that we had yesterday has sense moved on and until this moves in, we are going to have a little bit of a break from that wet weather. on saturday, whe start to see t clouds move in, it will be sunny to start. on sunday, that's what all eyes

are on, as of right now. we start to see that rain moving through, during the morning, startth in the north bay, along the peninsula and moving inland for the afternoon. easteric hunt. all of those events you have planned, it looks like it will be wet during the afternoon. that's why we are reming some movies, on monday, still a chance of rain. it gets even heavier monday night and scattered showers in the forecast through tuesday. at least with this initial round of rain, we have the potential of getting a tenth to a quarter of an inch, it gets heavier as we go through the week w. renot done with this rain just yet, april flowers, april showers putting may flowers, right, mike, checking in on the south bay. >> that's right. most of the commute coming up roses, but we have a couple slow spots to point out. here in the south bay, that's not one of them. we typically see slow bound one on one, even on friday, food friday has proven to show light traffic. folks take the day off. some holidays scattered around. passover will be all weekend as well.

>> all right, chris, thank you. you, too, nasa scientists say they are getting closer to answering whether or not there is life beyond earth. new discoveries provide evidence of ocean world's well beyond earth. during a news conference in washington, d.c. yesterday, nasa said the findings by the kiss my spacecraft and the hubble telescope identified jupiter and saturns moons. nasa says plumes of water show some of the ingredients used for a livable environment. >> certainly there finding suggests that there is a significant amount of hydrothermal activity to produce. but it's a strong signal of hydrogen. this hydrogen is a good source of chemical energy to support life. >> all right. get more information, the ocean worlds are protected by an ice shelf, similar to the way our atmosphere protects us. >> very interesting. a local chiropractor disappears in a sex trials crime against him. coming up next the bay area

sponsors their all day big event like a sharks game. the city can expect fans to spend roughly over $570,000 on food, drink and entertainment at businesses outside the shark tank. that's according to an economic report commissioned by the city that study the effects of a mma five concert in 2015. they wouldn't tell us how much they make just it's a great night for business. >> it's lard to put a number on it. we have to actually count people at the door because it gets as to crowded. >> reporter: the sharks leads the edmonton oilers 1-o in the first round of the playoffs, game two in edmonton. game three returns to the sap center on sunday at 4:00 on sunday t. sharks will hold a rally outside the shark tank three hours before game time, which is at 7:00.

reporting live here outside the shark tank in san jose, bob riddell, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. happening today, bay area transportation leaders will brief state lawmakers on a plan to hike bridge tolls by as much as $3. ntc members this week, discussed a regional ballot measure to increase tolls and provide a break for fast track users. state legislators have to first siep off on that measure if they do, it may appear on the 2018 ballot. an update on a story we have been tracking all night. all lanes are clear, following a deadly late night crash near the on ramp to southbound 101 in santa clara. two people died in that crash. it involved two cars. now, we did speak with chp earlier this morning. they could not confirm the two people that died were actually driving each car or if they were passengers involved. the crash closed both lanes for hours.

it is since opened. a search under way this morning for this man. he is the same person in all four photoles. he's a santa rosa chiropractor who disappeared in the middle of his sex crimes trial. he was recently convicted of sexually assaulting two women, now police are trying to piece together where he is. he was last seen in walnut creek last month. police are now releasing four different photos of him. on the day he went missing. he was convicted of 11 sexual assault charges and one misdemeanor. police say they are now trying to find if he's on the run. >> i have no indication at this point that help wanted to hurtles. it was a matter of him not wanting to go to jail f. someone sees him, they need to call their local law enforcement. there is a bench warrant for information leading to his whereabouts. 6:34 now. water flowing out of the or oville main spillway, crews have

weekend forecast. >> yeah, there is a lot going on, from sports events to religious ceremonies and events. we will have rain moving in, as far as the forecast is concerned, well, saturday will be the best day in the peninsula, we're to 69 degrees, 62 degrees on sunday. and in san francisco, only 58 degrees on sunday. saturday with that sunshine, we see the highs reaching into the low 60s. in the south bay, 72 degrees, it will be very warm. then it drops to 61 on sunday as the showers begin early afternoon for the east bay, 67 degrees on saturday, only 58 on sunday. if you are heading to napa this weekend. 70 degrees tomorrow, with a high of 70 degrees, it will be very comfortable and then we'll only see the high up to 58 degrees with cloudy skies and showers starting during the morning. if you want to take a part of some hiking trails and one of the national parks, all of them will be free this weekend.

your woods will also be free with a high of 63 degrees. a mix of sun and clouds, some of those trails may be muddy, we've had rain recently. open saturday, we always have the farmer's market. but this weekend, tail also have coachella, a lot of goats there for the kids to pet. everything you can imagine that deals with goat cheese and get to milk and all of that stuff. we will be in the low 60s, 61 degrees at 2:00 and for the forecast this evening, at at&t park the rockies versus the giants and this evening it will be at about 60 degrees during the tail gateing sunshine and dropping back into the mid-50s. make sure have you on a heavier jacket. saturday, santa cruz, it will be a beautiful day. once again, saturday is the best day to head to the beach, with our temperatures in the morning, driving up the summit at 58 degrees. at lunchtime, 61 degrees, then the clouds start to move in, as we will see the highs in the upper 60s. also on saturday, in sausalito,
