we'll take a look at the bay area forecast coming up in a few minutes, and we'll also be talking about traffic in a few. >> all right, kari, thank you very much. >> 5:00 on the dot right now. breaking news out of france. we have learned within the last hour the name of the gunman behind a deadly terror attack in france. police say that kareem shaufry is behind the rampage that killed a police officer and injured two other officers and a passer-by. we're also getting new video of overnight raids for a possible accompli accomplice. all of this taking place in a town east of paris where police believe the gunmen may have lived. isis has claimed responsibility for the attack. also this morning, the popular tourist destination where the attack happened is back open. within the last hour, president donald trump responding to the attack in paris saying, quote, another terrorist attack in paris. the people of france will not take much more of this. will have a big affect on presidential election. >> 5:00 on the dot right now. new this morning, authorities in the south bay are reportedly

looking for the driver whose suv plowed into the side of a medical office building. you see how it ended up. it happened around 1:00 this morning when the car struck the side of the building in san jose. the building sets on the edge of campus along jackson avenue. when police arrived, the driver had already taken off. all new this morning, as the rain clouds fade and we enter into springtime, kari was just talking about this, we're learning that a major reservoir in the south bay is now much less vulnerable to a major earthquake. >> bob redell is live near the anderson dam with what water officials are saying this morning. bob. >> good morning to you. after releasing water behind me like they have been doing for quite a while now, been doing this 24/7 for a number of months, the anderson reservoir here in morgan hill is finally at a much safer water level. earlier this week, anderson fell

below 68% capacity. now, that number is significant because that's the maximum capacity allowed by the state and federal government because of seismic safety concerns. this winter's rainstorms caused a lot of worry as the reservoir filled to full capacity, gushed over the spillway and flooded downstream in san jose. if there had been a magnitude 7.25 quake on the fault at that time, this dam built in 1950 could have failed. >> it certainly feels good to us that we're now down below the restricted level. we are continuing to reduce the level in the reservoir as an additional safety precaution as well as the fact that we have coyote reservoir, which is above anderson reservoir. we also over time will reduce the level in that reservoir as well. >> the santa clara valley water district, which operates anderson dam, has been releasing

water since around the start of the year and will continue to do so until mid-may, late may, when anderson gets down to around 58% and coyote reservoir, 50%. in 2020, the district is expected to start a four-year, $400 million seismic retrofit of the anderson dam. reporting live here in morgan hill, bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you very much, bob. 5:03 right now. new this morning, word of an arrest and some bizarre motives in last week's bombing of a german soccer team's bus. the attack on the bus as it traveled from a key soccer match injured one player. this morning, authorities arrested a 28-year-old german russian man and his attack apparently had nothing to do with terrorism. instead, they say the suspect carried out the bombing to drive down the team's share price, which the suspect had just shorted so he might profit. >> wow. all right, 5:03. pretty bizarre.

5:03. speculation a judge could rule as early as today in the bay area based lawsuit against president trump's executive immigration order. last week, san francisco and santa clara counties argued to block that order that would potentially withhold funding from sanctuary cities or governments. although how much money is not exactly clear. while the judge did not issue a specific timetable, judges in similar cases have waited about this long before announcing their decision. >> a lot of drama happening at uc berkeley. late last night, conservative political commentator ann coulter continued her attack against uc berkeley all over an invitation to speak at cal. yesterday, cal changed course, saying that it would allow coulter to speak on campus but on may 2nd when the school will be out of session. coulter responded on twitter saying she wasn't available that day and instead will show up somewhere in berkeley next week on april 27th, which was the original date of her planned visit. uc berkeley's chancellor says the school will continue, though, to promote free speech.

and it includes cuts to educational programs and climate change denial. bill nye the science guy, who you might remember from being a kid, will spearhead the event in washington, d.c. >> san francisco city college wants to explain its free tuition process to students. the free city initiative will allow students to attend city college for free so long as they maintain a 2.0 grade point average. all city college campuses will host open houses going over enrollment, funding, and admission. >> a little sports right now as we take a live look at the oakland coliseum. not about the a's, though they did win last night. they're going strong here. but let's talk some football, where business carries on despite the fact there's now a short-time tenant. holding their first meeting since the nfl approved the raiders' move to vegas. it's not known if they'll talk about the raiders lease which runs for two more seasons.

part of today's meeting is a closed-door session. now to the nfl schedule. officially out, raiders fans know exactly when the key matchups will be played. time to focus on the upcoming draft. that starts next thursday. the raiders plan to add pizzazz to their selection this year by announcing their third-day picks from the welcome to las vegas sign. really rubbing this in, huh? that may or may not pump up bay area raiders fans who are sad to see the team going. the raiders will hold a pre-draft news conference at the current raiders facility in alameda. >> no doubt, fans in san jose are waking up disappointed this morning, speaking of sports. >> especially if they had to stay up late last night to watch the end of this game. it was close. it was not supposed to go down like this. >> playoff heartbreak for the sharks and in overtime. >> over to the point. dearnie. he scores. >> edmonton bangs in the game

temperature trend forgreen. look at how those temperatures go up as we go through the day. lots of sunshine. our normal high is 70 degrees but we're going well above that today and going to see upper 70s. we will make some weekend plans with a look ahead to the weekend forecast coming up in about five minutes. 5:13 now. a chicago man says headphones are spying on him, and while that might sound a little paranoid, a law professor says he's right. the man filed a lawsuit, accusing bose of secretly tracking what he's listening to. he saiding the headphones along with the app allowed personal information to be collected and shared with third parties. the man of the kent college of law says this type of data collection is included in license agreements which most of us don't really read. >> we need to move to a place where there is a notification in any kind of situation we wouldn't anticipate that our private information being stored and used with third parties for

profit. >> he adds that data mining is becoming more common as we rely more heavily on internet connected devices. >> airbnb renters in richmond will have to pay more. the city will subject them to a hotel tax. starting in june 1st, they'll pay a 10% occupancy tax. the city council passed that measure on tuesday. it will be added and collected based on the listing price of the rental. in a statement, airbnb said it entered that tax voluntarily. >> speaking of the past and wanting to impact the future, two women known for their fights against alleged sexual harassment and gender discrimination take to the stage together in san francisco. anita hill, known for accusing supreme court justice clarence thomas of sexual harassment, and ellen pao, who suedcliner perkins for sexual discrimination, both say there has to be more awareness, but little has changed for victims. they say the bill o'reilly case

interviewed top hr executives. not clear why. considering it's in uber's best interest to solve the problems that have been dogging that company. >> earlier this week, san francisco personal finance company nerdwallet was named one of the best places in the city to work by the san francisco business times. today, that very same newspaper reports the company is laying off a significant portion of the staff. 40 people, including the executive in charge of growth. >> president trump this morning will sign new executive orders undoing some of the financial rules put into place by president obama, include agrule that would discourage inversion, where an american company buys a smaller foreign company, then takes on the identity of the smaller company in order to avoid american tax. president obama tried to use executive order to discourage that. markets rose thursday after comments from the trersy secretary, the trump administration will reveal its tax reform plan soon.

9:00, and at 1:00, 69 degrees. we see the temperatures jumping up. we'll be in the low 70s today. and then we'll see these clouds moving in for tomorrow. now, it looks like a pretty big storm system, but it's been really dry and not showing a lot of moisture. so this is what the computer models do with it. shows a few spotty showers just offshore. by the time it makes it in, an increase in clouds, and then for sunday, all bright and sunny again heading into next week. watching our next chance of rain with some showers on tuesday afternoon into early wednesday, and then we'll go back to some dry weather. the seven-day forecast coming up at the bottom of the screen. we'll see that we will have some upper 60s in san francisco. cloudy skies tomorrow, and very mild on sunday, to 60 degrees there. chance of rain back in the forecast for early next week, tuesday into wednesday. other than that, a very nice weekend ahead. now, let's see what it looks like on the roadways as you head out the door.

>> see something say something. he will be arraigned this morning. thomas will be flying home to be reunited with her family. >> 5:35. happening at the moment, authorities along with concerned friends and family trying to locate a man who people who know him say is battling depression. looking 21-year-old bobby o'leary. police say he ran from security workers who spotted him tuesday in santa clara. he is apparently depressed and not taking medication. >> a bomb scare in san francisco cleared out a block of market street, if you were there, this is the reason why that happened. san francisco police responded to a suspicious package on the 700 block otmarket street. a shelter in place advisory went into effect around 8:00 in the evening, and then police cleared the area and the department's bomb squad came to the scene. after 10:25, two and a half hours later, police secured the area and lifted the advisory. >> an investigation right now into a pretty strange armed robbery to tell you about. the search is on for a suspect

who robbed a south bay auto dealership. here's what happened. the suspect pictured in the sketch robbed kaiser motors on the fieskth. he identified himself as robby and asked about a trug for sale. then he went for a test drive. when he came back, he came back with a gun. he demanded money from the victim and got away in the truck that's pictured right there. the victim says he possibly has some sort of mental disability. >> 5:36 now. happening this evening, stage four of the route 101 broadway interchange project begins in san mateo county. starting at 8:00 tonight, the bay shore highway on ramp to northbound 101 will be closed. the nearly broadway off ramp will also be closed. both should open at 10:00 on saturday morning. >> crisp, pure water back on tap. 800,000 east bay home openers will have their water piped directly from the river.

it's sourced from the sierra, the melted snow there. it will affect customers in oakland, richmond, and san leandro and many communities west of the berkeley hills. for five months, they were drinking reservoir water. >> it's 5:37, with and clear skies around the bay area and chilly temperatures to start, it's 54 degrees in the peninsula and the tri-valley. 47 degrees. we're also at 47 in the north bay, and the east bay at 52 degrees. and a lot of sunshine in the forecast. a day for some shorts and some short sleeves. and don't forget the sunglasses. look at all this sun in the forecast today with some mid 70s in the peninsula and the east bay. while san francisco today will be up to 69 degrees. coming up, we'll take a look at the temperature trend for today and a couple events going on around the bay area. let's get a look at what it looks like as you head out for the commute. we have seen a few more slow spots on the roadways including in the south bay. 101, as you approach 880. we're starting to see a slowdown

we'll talk about what else is going on in this forecast after this temperature spike coming up in five minutes. >> the man who police say went on a hate crime shooting spree in fresno will be arraigned today. kori ali muhammad will face a judge for the first time since the deadly triple shooting earlier this week. police say he killed three white men after learning that he was wanted in killing. that of a motel security officer. police say the 39-year-old ex-convict selected his victims at random in tuesday's attack. >> a vallejo man who brazenly flashed his 40-caliber gun on live stream video earlier this week is facing some legal trouble. >> yeah, happened on periscope. video of the man identified as christian brown. in the video, you see him flashing the gun and smiling as he points it at the camera, which police say the camera was loaded. brown posted this title to the video, i need 100 views so i can shoot my 40. >> 40 is the caliber of the

handgun. that's our opinion that he was referring to the caliber. >> needless to say, the video got people's attention. especially in the wake of recent shoots and the one in ohio posted on facebook. vallejo police say brown has been charged with possession of a firearm and violating parole. >> by the way area hospitals facing fines. state health regulators announced fines against kaiser permanente hospital in san francisco, st. luke campus in san francisco, napa's queen of the valley, and sequoia hospital in redwood city. those dollar amounts range from about $,000 to $225,000. >> most of the fines actually involve the deaths of patients due to mistakes made by hospital staffers. but in the case of sequoia, doctors made a mistake when they removed a patient's ovaries even though they were supposed to remove other organs.

one thing president trump definitely did not do was create a new cybersecurity plan. he said he would have that done in the first 90 days. not only is there not a new plan. reports say the person in charge of the plan,y giuliani, has not discussed it with the president since this meeting in january. new reports say the united states has issued a warrant for the arrest of wikileaks head julian assange and may bring crimial charges against others who participate in wikileaks. the new director of the cia says wikileaks is controlled by foreign powers. this is a big turnaround. president trump said during the campaign, quote, i love a wikileaks. president trump will sign a number of executive orders today, including some backing financial restrictions put in place by the obama administration. yesterday, the president spoke out against foreign steal, particularly chinese steel. the bay bridge, manufactured in china, with chinese steel, then shipped piece to piece to

absolutely gorgeous start to this day. but it is cool, as you head out the door, and the seven-day forecast is now coming up at the bottom of the screen. take a look. you'll be able to see how our temperatures will be changing over the next few days. but there's no rain in the forecast. and as you step out in fairfield, it's 44 degrees. 52 in oakland, palo alto, jose, and san francisco as well as half moon bay. a pretty even temperature range there. but we'll spread things out later on today as we go from the upper skiblths along the coast and in san francisco into the low 80s today. look at napa, 82 degrees. and 79 degrees in san jose. after seeing that cool start and a warm finish, you'll want make sure you stay warm. have a hoodie for the morning and short sleeves. later on today, you'll take off the jacket and want to make sure you're dressed comfortably for some summertime weather, and the sunglasses, a necessity today. don't forget those before you head out. going to see the next round of clouds moving in that will not

bring us any rain for tomorrow. but we're seeing it out there in the pacific right now moving closer, so as you get ready to head out for tomorrow, early in the morning, if you're coming to see me as history park in san jose for the autism speaks walk, it will be at 60 degrees at 9:00 as we get things started and throughout the morning in the low 70s. then the temperatures continue to climb from there into the low 70s. later on in the evening for the sharks versus the oilers game at the shark tank, it will be in the lower 60s. and more clouds moving in. but once again, no more of the rain. we are going to see the clouds also in san francisco. a high of 64 degrees. a little cooler on sunday as the clouds will bring about some change for the first part of next week. as we see the temperatures drop, we will also have another chance of rain in the forecast from tuesday afternoon into wednesday. the same for the inland areas, and warmest days in the forecast will definitely be today as well as tomorrow. let's get a look at how the drive times are looking for you

seattle police officers are still in the hospital after they were shot while responding to a robbery. a third officer was also grazed by a bullet and a fourth was hit in the head with a bottle. three suspects ran away from the scene. they were all eventually taken into custody. those two officers who are in the hospital right now are expected to be okay. >> we have new video just in to our newsroom showing a special tribute to the late music icon prince as we mark one year since prince's death. two of minnesota's most traveled bridges were lit up in purple overnight. today marks exactly one year since the native minnesotan died. pris died on october 1st of last year. he died officially of annal overdose of fentanyl. >> we are one day away from day and it's always a good reminder to talk about ways to conserve energy. if you always leave the lights on, try upgrading to smartphones that can be programmed through an app so you can shut them off
