overwhelmed with everything going on. you want to make sure you allow extra time to get there because there will be so many other events going on in the same area, spaelg in the south bay. as you get the friday started, stepping out the door, 46 degrees in the tri-valley and 50 in the south bay. it's 53 in san francisco. and north bay, 45 degrees. a jacket needed early, but as we go through the day, nothing but sunglasses, shorts, and short sleeves as the high temperatures into the low 80s today. up to 69 and breezy winds in san francisco. i want to show you what's going on as you head out for that drive this morning. out there on the roadway, we have seen just a few slowdowns now, but as we go through the 6:00 hour, starting to see more people on the roadways, and we are also getting a slowdown at north 101, right there as you head closer to 880 and then also for the east bay. you have a wreck near walnut creek, 680 southbound. we're see agslowdown near main

street, and also for hayward, 880 heading farther to the south, we're seeing some slower road sensors there. i'll have another look at weather and traffic coming up in a few minutes. kari, thank you very much. let's get to breaking news this morning out of. within the last three hours or so, we have learned the name of the gunman behind a deadly terror attack at the champs deelise in france. kareem shaufry is behind the rampage that killed a police officer and injured two other officers and a passer by. >> we're also getting new video of raids for a possible accompli accomplice. this is in a town east of paris where believe believe the gunman may have lived. isis has claimed responsibility for this attack. >> also this morning, the popular tourist desination where the attack happened is now back open. new video showing cars once again. >> and just a few hours ago, president donald trump responded to that attack, writing, quote, another terrorist attack in

paris. the people of france will not take much more of this. will have a big effect on presidential election. >> we are also following breaking news out of salono county this morning. this is new video in to our newsroom showing police towing at least car at the scene of a shooting in fairfield happening on cement road, not too far away from the traffics air force base. we learned in the last 20 minutes, one perb is shot and in the hospital. no word on whether anyone was arrested. we'll continue to update you as information comes into our newsroom. >> new this morning, authorities in the south bay reportedly looking for the driver whose suv plowed into the side of a medical office building around 1:00 this morning. the car struck the side of a building at regional medical center in san jose. that building sits on the edge of campus along jackson avenue and is not connected to the main tower. new this morning, there is some relief in the south bay. hard to believe this is only a month or two ago that the

anderson reservoir was spilling over like that, but now down to 68%, a number that's critical in the event of a large earthquake. >> bob redell is live to explain why this is a relief for folks in the south county. >> good morning, after months of releasing water 24/7, the anderson reservoir here in morgan hill is finally at a much safer level of water. earlier this week, you can take a look at thisio and see how dramatic the pictures are when you compare them to a couple months ago. it fell below 68% capacity. that's the maximum allowed by the state and federal government because of seismic safety concerns. this winter's rainstorms caused a lot of worry as the reservoir filled to full capacity, gushed over the spillway and flooded downstream in san jose. if there had been a magnitude 7.25 quake on the calaveras vault at the time, the dam built

in 1950 could have failed. >> it certainly feels good to us that we are now down below that restricted level. we are continuing to reduce the level in the reservoir as an additional safety precaution as well as the fact that we have coyote reservoir, which is above anderson reservoir, we also over time will reduce the level in that reservoir as well. >> the santa clara valley water district, which operates anderson dam, had been releasing water from the reservoir since around the start of the year and will continue to do so until mid to late may when anderson gets to around 58% and coyote, 50% capacity. in 2020, the district is expected to start a four-year, $400 million seismic retrofit of anderson dam. reporting live here in morgan hill, bob redell, today in the bay. >> all right, bob, thank you so much. >> 6:05 right now. there is speculation that a

judge may rule as early as today in a bay area based lawsuit against president trump's executive immigration order, specifically as it pertained to federal funds for sanctuary governments. last week, san francisco and santa clara argued to block the order that would potentially take funding away from sanctuary governments. while the judge didn't issue a specific timetable, judges in similar cases have waited about this long before announcing their decision. >> new this morning, word of an arrest and bizarre motives in last week's bombing of a german soccer team's bus. the attack on the bus as it traveled to a key soccer match, injuring a player there. this morning, authorities arrested a 28-year-old german russian man. the attack apparently had to do with terror. instead, they say he carried out the bombing to try to drive down the team's share price when the suspect had shorted so he might profit. >> that is a twist. >> happening today, bartd will reportedly announce the next person who will lead its police

force. several news agencies report b.a.r.t. has hired carlos rojas. according to the orange county register, rojas on wednesday tendered his resignation saying he was accepting the b.a.r.t. position. rojas will replace kenton rainy who retired at the end of last year. >> 6:07, and happening today, san francisco city college wants to further explain its free tuition process for its students. the free city initiative will allow students who are residents of san francisco to attend city college for free so long as they maintain a 2.0 gpa and starting at 9:00 this morning, all city college campuses will host open houses to go over that, plus enrollment, funding, and admission. >> all playoff losses for your favorite team are tough to stomach. this might be particularly hard for san jose fans who are waking up awfully disappointed this morning. >> it wasn't supposed to go down lice thick. playoff heartbreak for sharks and in overtime. >> over to the point.

newspaper san francisco business times, said personal financial company nerdwallet was one of the best places to work in san francisco, the same newspaper reports the company laid off a significant portion of its workers. including the executive in charge of growth. so not much more growth. the man hired to investigate accusations of sexual harassment at uber, former u.s. attorney general eric holder, has asked for more time to conduct that investigation because he has not yet interviewed top hr executives. this according to a memo obtained by our sister blog recode. it's not clear why holder has not conducted the interviews considering it's really in uber's best interest to solve the problems that have been dogging that company. as you well know, president trump on tuesday signed an executive order to make it more difficult for companies, usually high-tech companies, to obtain h1b visas for foreign workers. no question sometimes the visas

car wash so customers pull the car into the building. they can buy pot directly from their car. in order to comply with the law, all drivers and passengers have to be at least 21 years old, and when they buy what they buy, it's all sealed up. >> i love the name of the car wash. tumbleweed. as you make your way through there, we have been dealing with high pollen counts around here. a lot of that flushed out with the rain? >> i had a lot of issues with allergies. i took my claritin this morning. all good. hopefully you did, too. we're going to have sunshine in the forecast. warm weather, and yes, the pollen will be back out in full force. as we're going to start out this dry day. we're at 46 degrees. and it's cool in the tri-valley. 53 degrees in the peninsula. also 53 in san francisco, as you step out the door. after this cool start, look at how much it warms up. we're up to 75 degrees in the peninsula. and almost hitting 80 degrees in the south bay and the tri-valley as well as the north bay. we will see a few spots hitting

80 today and up to 69 degrees in san francisco. so if you don't have spring break this week and the kids are getting ready to head out for school, a clear and cool start. make sure they have on a nice warm jacket but layers they can take off throughout the day. don't forget to write the name on the tag because they may lose the jacket later on today as the temperatures warm up to the low 70s and a great day outside. if you're like my child who is on break this week, santa cruz looks like an awesome option here because we do have a cool start to the morning, but then it quickly warms up and will be in the low 70s for this afternoon. and then for tomorrow, not as bright and sunny. these clouds will be moving in. although we will see an increase in cloud cover, it will still be dry. we're not going to see any showers moving through the bay area. it will be a filtered sunshine throughout the day, and that will help bring down the temperatures, and on sunday, back to sunshine. we're getting ready for rain in the forecast for the middle of next week, especially for

tuesday afternoon and indeed on wednesday morning before that weather system clears out. so the seven-day forecast shows that we have some clouds moving in tomorrow. we'll bring down the temperatures a few more degrees in san francisco. even cooler on sunday once the front passes. then next week, a dry start. showers on tuesday and wednesday. the inland areas, this is where we the temperatures going up and down. cooling down for the weekend and also as the showers move in early next week. now let's see how it looks on the roadways. a few more issues, especially coming through the altamont pass. if you know somebody coming into the bay area from the central valley, they may have a little bit more of a slowdown and some issues on the roadways. also, going to see the south baying good at this point, but we're also tracking that collision on the san mateo bridge. we're starting to see the red sensors showing it is slowing down on the high rise, and also looking at the bridge drive times. of course, the bay bridge is slow there. san mateo bridge at about 20

sunrise. gorgeous shot over san jose. this is how your friday starts. looks good. and it feels fairly mild. a little cool to start in some spots, especially for the valley. 46 degrees in livermore and fairfield. 51 in oakland and in san francisco. and looking at today's highs, we're up to 79 degrees in the south bay. 82 in napa. san francisco will be up to 68 degrees and 78 in livermore. as we get a look at what it looks like as you head out there for your morning drive, we're seeing more issues, especially if you're planning to take one of the bridges. especially the san mateo bridge. even looking at the south bay, starting to slow down, 101 north, that's kind of a usual spot as you approach 880 and for the san mateo bridge, a lot of red sensors there. and here's a live look at the bridge as we're barely seeing it move all right now. so maybe try to pick another option. i'll have another look at the forecast the weekend forecast, coming up in seven minutes.

>> it's going to be a jam packed weekend in the south bay, which is a really good thing. but it is going to mean a lot of traffic, and the roads and also on of trains. >> a lot of events going on. one of the biggest ones, comic-con at the san jose convention center. that's where we find pete suratos live this morning to break down all the events happening in the city. sports, comics. science. a little bit of everything. pete, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and kris. plenty of things going on this weekend in jose. as you mentioned, plenty of road closures and also a potential economic boost to the local economy because of these events. and for starters, this afternoon, you're going to have the silicon valley comic-con taking place behind me at the san jose convention center. a lot of big names, and last year, the convention brought in 60,000 people, so that's similar to the crowds we saw during super bowl 50 that took place in the south bay last year. however, the convention's outdoor festival will close down the west side of market street

the famous 420 unofficial pot holiday. there was a huge mess and a lot of crews spending hours late into the night cleaning things up. but looks like it's all gone. this year, crews in san francisco did pick up garbage. they also found a lot of other items as well. this is how it looked just about yesterday afternoon. about 15,000 people packed onto hippie hill to celebrate that unofficial marijuana holiday. for many years, the event had a lot of problems, but this time around, city leaders did try to put more work in place, and as we saw from the live picture from the sky ranger, it seemed like it worked. >> they got all kinds of rules. fences up now so people have to get checked in. >> this is an event that's happening whether we -- with or without a permit. what we're trying todo is provide the infrastructure that provides that it happens safely. >> this year, the entry point was set and there were no minors allowed in. and certain items like glass, large coolers, and barbecues

were forbidden. no arrests to report at this point. >> nice job there by the city of san francisco. >> 6:33. happening right now, authorities along with concerned friends and family are trying to find a man who people who know him say is battling depression. santa clara police are looking for 21-year-old bobby o'leary. here's a picture. he ran from security workers who spotted him tuesday in santa clara. he's apparently depressed and not taking medication. >> a teacher charged with kidnapping one of his former students will face a judge in a california courtroom. tad cumins disappears with this girl, 15-year-old elizabeth thomas. he's been on the run with her since the middle of march, but they were found yesterday in a remote part of sisque county not far from eureka. the care taker there of a rental cabin compound thought that cummins looks familiar and tipped off authorities.

all right, thank you, kari. 6:41. we continue to follow breaking news out of salono county this morning. video shows police towing at least one car from the scene of a shooting in fairfield. this is on cement hill road, not far from travis air force base. one person was shot and is in the hospital. no word yet on whether anyone was arrested. we will continue to update this story as we get information into the newsroom. >> a live look right now this morning at the anderson reservoir in morgan hill. the spillway is gushing there, but by comparison to a number of weeks ago, what a difference in water levels. it's now much less vulnerable to a major earth wake. it fill below 78% capacity. that's the lowest level. the reservoir, which filled to capacity, well beyond it, during our wet weather, floodingstream in san jose as a result.

medical center in san jose. the building sits on the edge of campus along jackson avenue and is not connected to the main tower. making news in the south this morning. the first of four arkansas inmates scheduled to die by the end of the month has been executed. ladell lee died just before midnight. arkansas had a full slate of executions lined up before a crucial lethal injection drug is set to expire. these executions have beened legally, but the state was allowed to move forward with lee's execution. it's arkansas first execution since 2005. >> 6:44. the man who police say went on a hate crime shooting spree in fresno will be arraigned today. kori muhammad will face the judge for the first since the deadly triple shooting. authorities say he killed three white men after learning he was wanted in another killing of a security officer. police say the 39-year-old ex-convict selected his victims at random in tuesday's attack. >> coming up on 6:45, and a

cpnc's st. luke campus in san francisco, napa's queen of the valley, and suchia hospital in redwood city. the dollar amounts of the fines range from $50,000 to $225,000. a lot of drama still happening at uc berkeley. late last night, conservative political commentator ann coulter continuing her attack against the university, all over her invitation to speak and then it was rescinded. they said they would allow her to speak on may 2nd when school is out of session. coulter said he's not available that day. instead, she said she's going to show up somewhere in berkeley next week on april 27th which was the original date of her planned visit. uc berkeley's chancellor said the school will continue to promote free. >> as the home of the free speech movement, we fully support the right and ability of our students to host speakers of

sun rising, and the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen, we hold off the rain chances for a few more days and also going to take in more sunshine. as we're looking now at the temperatures in the low 50s for oakland and san francisco, it's 54 degrees in palo alto, but we start out the morning in the north bay in the mid 40s. napa and santa rosa, 45 degrees. then we see the temperatures jump up into the upper 70s today for the south bay as well as the tri-valley. concord, you're up to 84 today air conditioners on. and in santa rosa, 78 degrees, while san francisco will be at 68 degrees. so as we get a look at the sunrise this morning, trying to plan for the day, it will be cool to start. so you will need a jacket, but under that, maybe some short sleeves you'll be peeling off some of the layers and shorts and sunglasses for the rest of the day as we will see all of that sun also sunglasses will be a nuty. maybe some sun block too. as we go into the weekend, an

increase in cloud cover with an approaching storm system, but it will not bring rain. stays dry, and on sunday, we go back to sunshine, but temperatures will be cooler. we'll hold off on the chances until about tuesday into wednesday as we will see the showers coming back along with some cooler temperatures in the inland areas. that's where we see the most drastic shifts in temperatures over the next few days. let's get a look at what it looks like as you head out for the morning commute right now. overall, we're not seeing major issues until we look at what's happening in the south bay. it's starting to jam up on 101 just north of 680, and also for the san mateo bridge, we have had a lot of issues here. there was an earlier crash. we see all of the red sensors there going across. it's barely moving. then for the dumbarton bridge, also starting to slow down as folks are trying to find an alternative here. for the bay bridge, at 13 minutes. look at the san mateo bridge. 50 minutes. tell your boss you're going to be late or maybe check out the

friday. >> we say the golden state. we are literally the golden state right now. >> beautiful, and it's going to be warm day. going to feel like summertime around the bay area with highs reaching in some spots, check this out, near 80 degrees. at 79 in the north bay as well. yeah, we're going to see the temperatures in the upper 70s, in the peninsula, 75 today. and 69 degrees in san francisco. now, even though it's beautiful outside, we have quite a few issues on the roadways. especially for the san mateo bridge. we're also getting a backup in the south bay. looking at the overall view, road sensors are mostly green. and for the south bay, we have a new accident on 101, just past 680. there's a lane closed there. allow extra time to get through that area. also for the san mateo bridge, getting a little bit of recovery here, but it's still very slow and you want to find another way with waze. >> really slammed this morning. hopefully that will improve.
