new details tonight about the altercation on board a plane at sfo. passenger tell us what they saw. the news starts now. thank you for joining us at 8:00. i'm peggy bunker. >> and i'm terry mcsweeney. airline passengers are reacting to another incident that happened on board a plane. >> this is a dramatic fight on board american airlines. now the company is on damage control. tom, one professional group says the flight attendant broke some of the basic rules of how to handle this situation. >> reporter: they say he actually helped escalate the situation instead of calming it, not what flight attendants are supposed to do in dealing with upset passengers. this mother in tears after passengers say she was

mistreated by an american airlines flight attendant. a man challenged the attendant. >> hey, bud, you do that to me and -- >> you stay out of this. >> reporter: the san francisco woman on the flight said the attendant violently yanked a stroller from the mother's hand which hit the mother and nearly hit the baby. new video shows the male passenger's reaction after the attendant tries to explain that it was an accident. >> you almost hurt a baby. >> reporter: the attendant is suspended while an investigation is completed. an aviation expert says it will work like most criminal investigations. fact gathering followed by decisions. >> they will talk to the air crew and passengers involved. if they have any known passengers who witnessed the situation, they will talk to them as well and determine the best course of action afterwards. >> reporter: these travelers say they are glad passengers are capturing incidents like this on smartphones. >> a video always helps to bring out anything to light, especially behavior like, that

which should never happen, especially in a customer service arena. >> he was very belligerent and that's not what you expect from an attendant and customer service. >> reporter: the association of flight attendant agrees, among other things, it said in a written statement, "the video from an american plane is not representative of the work flight attendants do to de-escalate conflicts and manage issues to ensure the safe departure and arrival of tens of thousands of flights daily. meanwhile, another flight attendant chimed in saying not to jump to conclusions about this flight attendant's actions and how he handled this deal between the woman and her stroller. meanwhile, the airport is saying over the loud speaker reminding passengers to check with their airlines about their policies when it comes to strollers on board planes. thom jensen, nbc bay area news.

gathered to hear bill nye the science guy. he was there to speak to crowds talking about the importance of funding for scientific research. and in chicago, physicists put on a very colorful demonstration. there were reportedly more than 6,000 marches that took place across the u.s. and earth day with a focus on climate change in oakland. this was the scene as hundreds of people came together to visually show what it looks like for a banner with some 300 feet long, which will show how high the bay will rise as a result of climate change. for more information, head to our website at nbcbayarea.com. a san francisco firefighter is in stable condition tonight after suffering injuries while battling flames at an abandoned school. the fire department sent us this

video of the scene. this abandoned school is on cambridge street. the flames broke out on the first floor. they quickly spread. no word on how that firefighter was injured. once again, he's in stable continue tonight. a fire in vallejo this morning. this one was underground. it happened when an electrical vault under a manhole caught fire. this is the scene off columbus avenue. firefighters say the electricity and flames were causing small explosions underground. they had to use a special extinguisher to put that fire out. no one was hurt. san jose police are investigating a homicide at a motel popular with people attending events at the s.a.p. center. marianne favro is in san francisco with the new developments. marianne? >> reporter: terry, the shootings happened around 3:30 this morning and investigators just left the motel.

tonight, we talked to some motel guests who wish that the motel told them more about what happened before they checked in. gunfire erupted at a motel 6 in san jose. tonight, one man is dead. two other men who were shot are now recovering. police were called to the motel early this morning on the alameda after someone reported hearing several shots fired. >> upon our arrival, we located one male deceased. two others injured. the two were transported to the hospital. and other than that, the investigation is ongoing. >> reporter: more than 14 hours later, san jose police were still processing the crime scene, which included first and second floor motel rooms. these two friends are staying at the motel tonight and are headed to the sharks game. they were surprised to learn what had happened here. >> i wish they would have told me up front when i asked what had happened. >> reporter: police did not evacuate the motel but escorted

guests out who wanted to leave. so far, investigators have not identified any suspects. this is the city's eighth homicide of the year. in san jose, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. >> marianne, thank you very much. police are now searching for a brentwood teenager missing since wednesday night. this 17-year-old was last seen in brentwood. police got a tip yesterday that she could be in the pittsburg area, about 50 miles away. witnesses saw a girl similar in appearance at the dollar tree store on bailey road in pittsburg. she was with a male companion at the time. she's described as 5'5" with blond hair and blue eyes. still to come, the power of words. growing concerns that some of the president's comments could make it harder for law enforcement to stop terror attacks. plus, a change of plans. what president trump says he'll be doing instead of attending the white house correspondents' dinner. and san jose temperatures right now in the low 60s as we

he grabbed him by his shoulders and went on to shake his hand. after announcing in february that the president will not be attending the white house correspondents' dinner, tonight we've learned that president trump will be doing something different instead. he took to twitter saying next saturday, the day of the dinner, he'll be holding a big rally in pennsylvania. that day also happens to be president trump's 100th day in office. details of what that rally will entail has not been indicated. attacks overseas has law enforcement concerned. some say comments linking islam terror may be inspiring extremist groups and scaring muslim-americans from cooperating with the police. for more, gadi schwartz reports. >> reporter: this week's terror attack in paris has police in the cross-hairs. an isis attacker shooting up a police van on champs-elysees. president trump said, whoever is the toughest on radical islam

station in paris today. this is video of armed police officers before they arrested a man wielding a knife. you can see the incident caused panic among travelers who began to run away. officers were able to arrest the man right away. this happened a few days after the officer was shot and killed. a final good-bye today for a man whose senseless murder was posted on facebook on easter sunday. friends and family gathered for a memorial service for godwin. he was remembered by friends and family and they say he was a loving and gentle person who taught the importance of forgiveness. he's survived by ten children, many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. vice president mike pence and australia's minute met today. vice president pence said the

era of patience is over and all options are now on the table. >> continuing on the path the world has been on with north korea over the last 25 years is just unacceptable. >> the vice president said an aircraft carrier strike group off the korean peninsula within days and is urging china to do more to urge north korea to do more to drop the nuclear program by turnbull. several people were taken to the hospital after a ferry crash in spain. this is video here of the crash. it happened yesterday. watch this. the ferry headed right towards the wall. boom. crashing right here at the port in the canary islands. it slammed into the sea wall causing part of the wall to collapse. emergency services say about a dozen people were injured. five were taken to the hospital. the ferry company says it simply lost all electrical power causing the boat to crash. the ferry hit underwater pipes causing a two-mile oil spill. crews raced to the port to clean

up the mess. rob mayeda is joining us. you were a busy man out and about in the dry weather. >> yes. in san jose, at an elementary. the kids put their handprints around some of the play equipment. that was a nice time there. we had nice weather. sunshine and then the clouds started to fill in around midday. some evening clearing around the bay area, going from clear to cloudy back to clear or clearing around san jose. 61 degrees currently. there's a look at the clearing skies. palo alto, 61 degrees. how about ocean beach, nice view there across the water. but a bit breezy and chilly. wind will be part of our story. especially in san francisco as we see clearing skies. 61 degrees. north bay, northwest winds, we will see temperatures around sonoma and napa approaching close to 70. it's a little warmer than temperatures we saw today.

here is heavenly, south lake tahoe. notice here in the ski report here, squaw valley and alpine meadows, a chance of new snow on the way. tuesday, a few more showers across the sierra. for the bay area tonight, partly cloudy skies. may see a few sprinkles along the coast. 40s and 50s to start the day tomorrow. high temperatures in the upper 60s around downtown san jose and a chance of low 70s south of downtown. close to gill row and around los gatos for the afternoon. close to 70 around the tri-valley. peninsula temperatures, mid-to upper 60s. these wind speeds tomorrow, 15 to 30 miles per hour. gusty along the coast, including san francisco. winds at 15 to 25. into the north bay, upper 60s and low 70s to wrap up the weekend. right now the radar has had a few returns. mostly well away from the ground. there is the back edge of the clouds. out in the pacific, we'll see a chance of showers coming our way

on monday. notice the winds we have out there this evening. these may pick up a little bit for sunday. we're seeing partly cloudy skies, breezy conditions. no chances of rain as we wrap up the weekend. on monday, more clouds and a stronger system bringing a chance of showers back into the north bay on monday morning and then around 4:00, scattered showers around the bay area. this is for your monday evening commute. again on tuesday and probably early wednesday, a lot of clouds but not a lot of rain except for areas north of san francisco. this is the best chance of finding rain. high pressure just off to our west is a flat ridge of high pressure. so moisture continues to try to spill into the bay area, maybe until the early part of midweek and then by the time we get into thursday and friday, high pressure begins to build strongly, which is the reason the seven-day forecast on friday, saturday has a big warmup on the way. in the meantime, we have breezy and clearing conditions tomorrow. chance of showers monday and

erin more r erin moran passed away at the age of 56. she was found unresponsive. in recent years, moran fell on hard times and struggled with alcoholism. fans are now taking to social media to express their sadness. nbc bay area responds to several consumers who shared the same predicament. they spent hundreds of dollars to get a drone before it hits the mass market. >> but they've been empty handed and waiting for two years. here is consumer reporter chris chmura. this 2015 video, a dleclever tw of a drone following a subject

and recording life from above. he pulled out his credit card to land one six months ahead of everyone else. >> they got me right where they wanted me. >> it was described as autonomous and waterproof, too. this is the brain child of two berkeley alums. their san francisco company blanketed social media, offered presales at a discount and collected more than $30 million. it was touted in this 2015 video. >> that's a lot of units. >> it's been great. we have production from all over the world. >> they raked in more than $38 million from 61,450 buyers in 80 countries. but lily repeatedly pushed back

its delivery date. >> when i initially made the purchase i was totally aware that it would be six months until i received it. we're now sitting at two years. >> reporter: and you still don't have it? >> that's right. >> reporter: thousands of fed up lily customers requested refund and got one, including one who enlisted the responds team at our sister station in washington, d.c. >> i never suspected it was going to take 18 months. >> reporter: but people like stewart and james in san mateo and gobs of others who have sounded off on social media did not get refund. stewart and others turned to us for help. we made multiple requests on their behalf. we asked where the $38 million went and whether customers would get their money back. but lily's outlook was bad. then the situation got worse. the san francisco district

attorney accusing it of false advertising and misleading representations. they say the videos weren't shot with a lily. some was shot with a competitor drone and lily failed to make any disclaimers regarding the true source of the footage. they accuse lily of knowing what it was doing was wrong. the co-founder sent an e-mail. "i think we should be extremely careful if we decide to lie publicly." stewart is stunned by all of this. >> i guess emotionally, it's nice to see that there's some legal action taken. >> reporter: a source close to lily robotics says the company staff has dwindled from 30 people down to four. their job is to shut down the company. records show lily robotics has

now filed for bankruptcy. a chapter 11 is often a bad omen for consumers but this one might offer hope. we found the company told the court they have $18.7 million remaining. the same search showed 31,000800 customers awaiting refund which is $588 per person, about the same amount stewart paid. lily's bankruptcy attorney says that the company has requested court approvals to bring full refund to its customers. the court will sort out who lily owes and how much and if stewart pay stands at the front of the line to get paid or the back. >> the crazy thing s. i have no idea whether it's a line or a crowd or a mad scramble. >> reporter: the san francisco d.a. is moving forward with his civil suit even though the company has filed for bankruptcy. for consumers due refund, lily says it knows who you are but

4:00 tomorrow and then on monday a change here. notice the chance of showers around 8:00 a.m. for the north bay and 4:00, we may see a few more showers. maybe not so much towards san jose but south of san francisco and again as we get into tuesday, the pattern resets again. most of those rain chances we think will be for areas north of san francisco as you can see here on the rainfall projection, mainly just through monday night. higher totals here north of santa rosa. a quarter of an inch here. areas south of san francisco, not much. maybe enough to wet the ground through 11:00 on monday. for the first half of the week, high pressure not strong enough to divert the storms off to the north but weaken them through the bay area. that's the story now through wednesday and then thursday to friday, high pressure begins to strengthen. enough so that if enough things hold together, we have a chance of maybe seeing mid-80s in the forecast by next sunday. so may not have seen a high pressure this strong in a while so stay tuned. final weekend of the month may

important life lessons. sometimes all it takes is a little bait and hook to teach kids life lessons. >> this was in milpitas for a day of fishing and fun. the event is organized by the santa clara county sheriff's recruits program. the recruits are the adult mentors. they are volunteering their time to help out these kids, many from undeserved communities who otherwise wouldn't fish. >> at the end of the day when they leave here and smiling on the bus and some have caught a fish, even if they haven't, they've had a wonderful time and their parents can come along.
