highs reaching into the low 70s. it will be windy with that sun as we transition from cooler to warmer weather, we'll talk about that in the forecast for the weekend in about five minutes. make is now tracking two crashes for the east bay. more cars hit the east beay freeways. south bay peninsula no surprises. the tri-valley moves well. the east bay, one concern is southbound 880 just before you get to a street, past a street you see a crash that may be blocking one lane so we have slowing and off the castro valley y, as the volume builds it's lighter than we often see. we have this crash. highway 4, it involves a motorcycle. this is the second of the morning, everything is off the shoulder but motorcycle involved krashlgs, we see people standing around and more spectators, a smoother drive toward the bay bridge. the backup at the toll plaza. back to you. >> mike, thank you very much.

happening later today, police in berkeley bracing for potentially nasty protests amid what has been a heated battle over free speech ann coulter was supposed to speak at cal's campus. the speech was canceled because of safety concerns. >> today in the bay's bob redell live with details on a rally being planned amidst the controversy. good morning, bob. >> good morning, the university and campus police are preparing for possible problems on campus today as you can see behind me. the university police department has blocked off the road leading up to their headquarters even though ann coulter is not scheduled to speak here like she was supposed to at 4:00 this afternoon. she has hinted she might show up at cal and at least three groups are planning rallies. there's a pro-coulter rally near mlk park, an anti-coulter news conference scheduled for noon

and a rally in support of her first amendment rights scheduled for 2:00 at berkeley's civic center plaza with a possible march to the cal campus where coulter was invited to speak by campus republicans but the university canceled her speech over safety concerns. the cam with us was worried there could be a repeat of the violence that erupted when milo yiannopoulos, a supporter of the so-called alt-right tried to speak here at cal. kou coulter appeared on fox news to express her disappointment. >> my allies, whom i love, we're on the same side but they ran away, they gave in. and then i was -- there was nothing i could do. >> we're citizens. we have a first amendment right to be here. we come to berkeley because this is supposed to be the home of the renewal of freedom of speech in the state of california. >> our commitment to the first amendment is unwavering and unshakable but so is our commitment to the safety of our students. >> the university said they did

propose an alternative date for coulter to speak, again citing concerns of safety and threats of violence. ? an e-mail to the associated press coulter hinted at an impromptu appearance on campus writing "i have my flights so i thought i might stroll around the graveyard of the first amendment." reporting live from the cal campus, bob redell. from cal to stanford where we were bringing you live pictures. there's been another report of a sexual battery. campus police say a female staff member says a man grabbed her while she was drinking from a water fountain at the mitchell earth sciences building yesterday. police found the suspect but the staff member declined to press charges. police say the suspect doesn't match the description of a suspect who groped two women earlier this month. police are still looking for that person. >> we're following a developing story out of the south bay and no doubt it's a dangerous job to begin with. two construction workers injured after an incident at facebook's

head quarters in menlo park. >> that's where we find kris sanchez to explain what is being called a catastrophic equipment failure. good morning, chris. >> reporter: it has to be a catastrophic failure for a beam like that to fall from 40 feet above the ground. that's not supposed to happen and the fact that those two workers who were safety harnessed to that beam were catapulted from it, the menlo fire chief says it's a miracle they survived the whole ordeal. let's look at a picture from the scene. you see the three men in the picture looking up at the beam that failed and fell 40 feet almost to the ground. it fell about halfway down before it caught and stopped abruptly, catapulting the workers to the ground. this is video of the construction scene this morning where the work will stop phenomenon cal osha gets to the bottom of how the incident happened. the sunny vail-based contractor level 10 construction also built facebook's building 20 which the company claims praise from mark

zuckerberg for being ahead of schedule and under budget when it was completed in 2015. when we hear from the construction company, cal osha or facebook, we will update your story and if we're not on the air you can find us on our social media platforms. i'm krisnbc on twitter. with. we're learning new details on a robbery heist on board of a abort train. this has bart's board of directors getting ready to meet to talk about safety. surveillance cameras are being used to identify a mop of teenagers accused of robbing passenger this is last weekend. as we reported, 50 teenagers poured on to a train at the coliseum station last saturday night. bart police say they robbed seven passengers and ended up injuring two others. now we've learned that surveillance video from inside the train has led police to the suspects. at the moment they're at the process of arresting them. >> we may learn more about how contra costa county voters feel

about the proposed west county jail expansion. supervisors in february voted to move ahead with the project. the board is hoping to get state funding for a new high security wing. richmond city leaders are among those opposed to expanding. a market research firm will present their results in a survey of votes. we are learning about the arrest -- another arrest of a cable car operator accused of skimming. 55-year-old david reyes is accused of stealing fares in san francisco. investigators say reyes was pocketing cash fares. this is on the heels of what we found out last week, conductor albert williams of napa, arrested for allegedly doing the same thing. $32,000 in cash was found a williams' home, even though he's accused of stealing about $900. the embezzlement investigation began two months ago at muni's request. more signs that climate change is changing our ecology in california. the "press democrat" reporting it's causing moss animals found in the waters off the sonoma coast to die off.

(mike ad libs) good thursday morning. 6:12. we still have clouds over the south bay as we take a live look outside at san jose. the temperature trend for los gatos, it will be 57 at 9:00 this the morning. your lunchtime temperature at 65 into the upper 60s and briefly hitting 70 degrees today. it will be a beautiful afternoon

but as we head into the weekend, really heating up. we'll talk about that in five minutes. and right now looking at travel times and still 23 minutes, not bad, from highway 4 to the bay bridge. that's the east shore freeway. the bay bridge moves well. we're watching the san mateo bridge and we'll see the shakeup from the crash. >> mike, thank you. 6:13, bees are on the move and beekeepers in northern california are seeing more swarms than usual this year. experts say bees are especially active right now because of the rain we've had in recent months. that prevented the bees from getting out as much as they'd like. until now, a beekeeper explains why this is creating issues for bees. >> that causes the hive to so massively reproduce, mike is many bees, new bees -- >> if a hive gets too crowded, some bees leave and the swarms they create get attached to nearly everything including items in your back yard, even your home, hopefully not on to your shirt.

the swarm will start building combs that cause structural damage to the property so it's important to have professionals remove the bees as soon as you find them. >> what is he immune to bees? he doesn't have a suit on or anything. 6:14 right now. students in one north bay city will get extra sleep starting next year. how great does that sound? the board of directors in novato approved this week later start times at all schools. the first bell will ring at 8:00 a.m. for high schoolers, 8:20 for middle schoolers and 8:40 for the kids in elementary school. the superintendent says starting school later will give students extra time to sleep and then you have to be prepared to learn. >> every last minute counts in the morning, as we know. kid or adult, doesn't matter. >> wall street pleased with the tax reform proposals. >> they think the overall plan is too vague. >> reporter: we were expecting details. we got a one-page paper with a lot of white space. we'll talk about the details and

what it means for you and your family as we look at politics in a half hour. but futures are flat, dow down slightly wednesday. nasdaq stayed above 6,000. san francisco is going to try a new policy and a new advertising slogan. they're going to call it "always welcome." this according to the san francisco business times. san francisco tourism worries about the affect that america's image may have on the city. united airlines has released an 11-point internal report on that violent removal of a san francisco -- chicago passenger from a st. louis flight. some details we already knew. united is upping the value of its travel vouchers to as much as $10,000. it won't call police if the situation isn't a crime. probably the biggest change. it will try to figure out what flights people are likely to give up seats on and what they're not. for instance, passengers on flights to smaller cities or the last flight of the day are less

as we go through the east bay it will be 72 in danville and antioch 74 degrees. we'll also see upper 50s along the coast but mid-60s as you go into the inner by a and down the peninsula. 62 at the outer sun set while 72 in novato seeing sea gulls flying by, they're the only one. i guess the crew getting the field ready. if you will will heading out to at&t park for the giants game it will be an early afternoon game and at noontime we're at 61 degre degrees. gusty winds will be blowing around a lot of the pollen. we're still moderate on the tree and grass pollen count and it's mainly oak, pine, and juniper, that's what we're seeing as far as tree pollens. let me show you.

motion of us are feeling wind speeds at 15 to 20 miles an hour so it will be breezy. much more gusty along the coastline. these winds stay up throughout the day tomorrow as our temperatures go from cool to warm and you see that transition happens quickly. so this weekend we'll be in the mid-70s in san francisco, upper 70s by next week and summertime temperatures for the inland areas, look how hot it will be by wednesday and next week. as we those mike giving us an update on the san mateo bridge. >> we talked about the crash reported mid-span. that turned into a car dragging a chain. some of you might have heard my report or others while you were on the road. we were looking at a light build through the tri-valley and a crash at wynton toward the san mateo bridge on the shoulder and

and the 13 tapes she leaves behind explaining why she took her own life. it's become a popular show among teens and adults confronting issues like bullying rape and suicide. a journalism professor at quinnipiac university says the show has been successful because of its realness and controversi controversial content. >> netflix hit the right notes in terms of show content, show demographic with the understanding that it would do extremely well on social media bauds that's where conversations tyke place. >> critics say the show glamorizes suicides and could be dangerous for teenagers having suicidal thoughts. nbc bay area responds to a pleasant hill woman who was told to pay off a loan. the loan wasn't hers. >> she turned to our consumer team for help. chris chmura joins with us another success story. >> reporter: christina thompson received an alert her credit

score dropped last may. after digging around she found a delinquent loan on her credit report with a balance of $2900. but christina said the account wasn't hers so she contacted the lender, net credit financial. they insisted the loan was christinas. she said she did everything she could think of to prove otherwise. she turned over her bank statements to show she never received funds, she filed a police report but net credit financial didn't budge. it even turned her over to a debt collector. late fees and penalties pushed the balance up to $32, 00 so christina asked us to call net credit financial. we did and it removed the loan from her credit report and called off the debt collector. the company said it linked the error to fraudulent activity it said it's story ms. thompson was targeted by these criminals. net credit takes seriously the

meeting to talk about preventing fare cheaters and what to do about the wake of flash mob style robberies that happened over the weekend. >> pete suratos joins us live with a busy day for bart conditioned concerns for passengers. >> reporter: according to bart. they're saying they lose between $15 million to $25 million every year from the fare cheaters and that's why it will be discussed during the evening board of directors meeting, a rare meeting taking place in downtown oakland later today. they're saying the meeting was planned in december to accommodate the public since the meetings usually take place in the morning. the topic is relevant following the incident with teenagers hopping fare gates at the oakland coliseum stop, jumping on a train and snatching cell phones and purses from passengers on bard. i got a chance to speak to the board president of bart and she says the fare evasion has been a long-time concern for riders and solutions will be discussed

tonight. >> there are solutions including capital investments so making the barriers higher so people can't jump over them. doing things with the fare gates to make them harder to fare evade and some solutions involving enforcement to have more officers out there. >> bart officials are pushing for the solutions to be a part of the upcoming budget which will be discussed during the meeting tonight. this is the first evening meeting in two years and it will take place at 5:00 p.m. in downtown oakland at the kaiser center. live in millbury, pete suratos, to today in the bay. vallejo fire investigators trying to determine the cause of an early morning hours fire. it started on benicia road. the vallejo fire department posted this video. crews say there were no injuries. >> new details on a story we first broke here on today in the

bay. the search continues for the suspects involved in a violent beating in the san jose state camp campus. that fight was caught on surveillance video. the video is disturbing. it's a brawl that broke out about 1:30 yesterday morning outside of a nearby jack-in-the-boxed on 4th and san carlos. police say the victim was a come in dark clothing getting punched. several other women also throwing punches. the victim is thrown to the ground and kicked. no word on the victim's condition. a south bay woman is on a mission to reclaim her most prized possession, her wedding ring which thieves stole during a car break in. carrie perez of morgan hill ran the rock and roll half marathon in san francisco a few weeks ago. she turned to her car on golden gate near franklin to find this, it was crashed. several bags gone. that included hers per where she left her engagement rink and the wedding band. >> we only got married seven

months ago so the ring is super sentimental. it means a lot. >> there is a chance police could solve the case. a private investigator obtained i have owe he says shows two people using perez's credit card after the break in. she says she would pay an award if an arrest is made. there are blistering allegations being leveled against wells fargo reportedly tied to the massive fake account scandal. the "mercury news reques" obtai documents that claimed wells fargo were ordered to go into neighborhoods with high numbers of undocumented immigrants and coax them into joining bank accounts. >> video view yours secretly recording women is actually a crime on the rise in the bay area. >> and a creepy one at that.

sunshine. here's saturday and sunday's forecast for the peninsula upper 70s, san francisco will be very comfortable. nice breeze on saturday up to 70 degrees. as we go from the south bay it will be 08 to 82 on saturday and sunday to the east bay, so expect sunshine and also some very comfortable temperatures. we have so many events including the butter and egg days in petaluma. the parade starts at noon. look at how the temperatures warm up. have sun block and something to protect you from the sun like an umbrella as you will be out there for a long time also enjoying parade in san francisco for cesar chavez day and the mission district. mostly sunny skies. we talked about the lower 70s. drink lots of water.

for the peninsula, at moffit field we have botball. a cool start but look at how we worm up through the afternoon into the low 80s with sunshine and in oakland there's a dense festival at jack london square at noon. it will be in the upper 60s, mid-70s throughout the day and mostly sunny skies. hot weather heading down to paso robles. 79 for tomorrow. look how hot on sunday. that's the kind of weather we may see if you want something nice and breezy and relaxing, how about heading to santa cruz? it will be in the low 70s throughout the weekend saturday and sunday and if you want to check out snow, it's still happening at kirkwood. it's still on the ground but the sunshine will melt some of that snow and it will be in the

preserve. a man is in jail for allegedly setting two fires at the trump hotel in las vegas. both fires were set last night. one of them was on the pool deck level. the other on the 17th moore from of the hotel. police say toasters, towels and other materials were used to ignite the fire. one security guard was injured. we don't know the extent of his injuries. the house oversight committee will be holding a propose proposed wall on the mexican borders. border patrol and immigration experts will be testifying later today. congress can talk about president trump's wall all it wants but it appears it won't fund it. >> one of the many defeats for the president in the last week. >> reporter: defeats and 180s. trump when he was candidate said he had a number of priorities including the wall, he said he would label china a currency

feet on a beam when somehow the beam shifted forcing the workers to fall. this was a catastrophic failure. their fall was stopped abruptly, though, by their safety harnesses, that saved their lives. the workers were injured and taken to a hospital for care. no word on their condition. live pictures from stanford university this morning where there's been another report of a sexual battery. campus police say a female staff member says a man grabbed her while she was drinking from a water fountain. it happened at the mitchell earth sciences building yesterday. police found the suspect but the staff member declined to press charges. for the first time in two years, bart will be holding a rare board of directors meeting in oakland at night. that meeting is more relevant following the incident over the week end where roughly 40 to 60 teens hopped fare gates at the coliseum station, jumped on to a train ledding to dublin and snatched cell phones. two people were injured as a result. the board president for bart says fare evasion has long been a concern for riders and they plan on talking about safety and
