this morning we'll see patchy fog and it will be a cooler day as well as breezy especially along the coast we'll talk about that in eight minutes. mike has changes within the last few minutes. >> we have no oakland airport connector right now. >> it sounds like there's an issue with a connector there so use bus 73. also capital corridor, train number 521 is delayed. something going on between sacramento and davis. that holdup will keep them from getting to the bay area any time soon. we're looking towards the roadways and overall things are moving well. we have the san mateo bridge recovering from the early issue with debris on the roadway that has been cleared but look at the live look we have and the san mateo bridge itself is slow on the flat section. everything else, though, is

moving well for the roads. back to you. thank you very much, mike. at 6:01 we are following breaking news out of the south bay. a seesh reis of arson fires set over night in the willow glenn area. kris sanchez joins us at the scene of one of those fires near lincoln and parkmoor avenue. good morning, kris. >> reporter: the fire is out but you can see two cars are destroyed here. and then farther off in the distan distance. the this was close to other cars and several businesses. firefighters arrived on scene, made quick work of the two fires that burned next to the auto body shop and smog shop and a construction office. they tell us they suspect arson in part because of the fires were set overnight and there were three other suspicious trash fires that were also reported. no one was injured but this happened less than a mile away

from willow glen's downtown neighborhood. so if you saw any suspicious activity in the willow glen neighborhood, call the san jose fire department or san jose police. in san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. >> kris, thank you so much. we are following another breaking news story in willow glen. police are investigating a deadlier? -shoveled shooting at a home on laura ville lane off lincoln avenue. these are live pictures. police say they were called out to shots fired at that house late last night. officers found two people who were shot and killed in the home there. then they encountered a suspect and the merge unit was brought in. police ultimately shot him. bob redell is reporting gathering the latest investigation. he'll bring us a live report at 6:30. more breaking news to tell you out of the south bay. firefighters still at the scene

of a fire at a recycling yard at the valley recycling facility on south 7th street in san jose. crews arrived before 4:00 this morning. you can see them dousing the fire there with water. there's a truck that caught fire when material on board it ignited. firefighters limited the damage to just the truck and nobody was injured. 6:04. new this morning, big news concerning england's royal family. taking a look at buckingham palace which has been buzzing with activity since last night. a short time ago we found out why. prince philip, the husband of queen elizabeth, announced he will no longer carry out public engagements as of this fall. in a formal statement, the royal family says the 95-year-old duke of edinburgh will scale back public appearances in august though he may choose to attend certain events. the queen has no plans to ratchet back her own engagements. continuing coverage right now in the high-profile sierra lamar murder case. the prosecution will get one more chance to make its case this morning. we're taking a live look at the hall of justice in san jose

where the trial is taking place. prosecutors will have the final word with a rebuttal. yesterday, to get you caught up, defense attorneys for antolin garcia-torres suggested lamar is alive and a runaway. the jury could get the case as early as this afternoon. sierra lamar disappeared, of course, five years ago on her way to school in morgan hill and her body has not been found. now to washington at 6:05 where health care will dominate the day. house republicans are expected to bring a health care bill to the floor for a vote today and they are confident they have the votes to pass it. there are concerns, however, surrounding the bill. the legislation allows states to opt out of obamacare rules that protect six people from being charged high premiums but an amendment adds money to cover high-risk people. the american medical association and aarp say this health care bill would increase premiums. it's a major overhaul at a busy east bay bart station. today in the bay's pete suratos is live this morning to break

down the upgrades that will begin there pretty soon and this is going on for a couple months? >> good morning to you, sam, those upgrades by bart will begin some time in mid-may and it will be similar to those upgrades we've seen at other contra costa county bart stations such as concord most recently but we'll show you the project area that bart will be working on, the area that will be under construction. you can see that area highlighted in blue in this map. right there at the corner of happy valley and deer hill road. as far as improvements go, we'll see improvements to paving and landscaping in the area as well as better parking options. we'll pull up the rendering of that parking lot after the improvements that bart says there will be more options for motorcycles as well as cars that comply with the americans with disabilities act. now, there's also going to be a rain garden, we can show you that, you can see that picture on the left. in the rain garden that will be used for waste water treatment purposes when it comes to dealing with storm water runoff.

corporate information. now i got that e-mail, i didn't click on it. i don't buy meat on the street, either. but i sent that e-mail over to our editor so she could show it to you on tv. while you're looking on it, don't click on it. google is issuing a rare and severe warning saying this fishing e-mail can give bad guys access to your google drive. it looks authentic, takes you to an awe then take page. one tipoff is who it's to. the hhhhhhh @mailinator.com. that looks suspicious. google suggests you use two-factor authentification when you get a text message with a code you have to enter. if you did click on the e-mail. go into your google settings and revoke third-party access to google docs and if they made no sense go online. the internet is filled with instructions on how to fix it this morning. the e-mail may have gone to a billion accounts. it sends the e-mail to more

are going to have hot temperatures. as we look outside across three of our micro climates in the south bay 59 degrees in the peninsula. you can see the clouds covering san francisco from the north bay. it's 49 degrees and 52 degrees with that fog across the golden gate bridge in san francisco. we are going to reach into the mid-to upper 80s today for the inland areas. another warm day. we're making improvement here we'll feel the coolest in san francisco where the high temperature will be up to 68 degrees so if you want to head to the coast and maybe the screws beach board walk, this will be a nice place to be. temperatures reaching into the low 70s right there along the middle east coast and this is what the -- this is the reason why we have had the change. winds have shifted on shore and the winds will be picking up today so it's bringing in those cool ocean breezes and we're

also seeing some fog nearby just offshore. so winds coming in at 10 to 15 miles an hour and look at what happens tomorrow. there will be stronger winds coming in as the cold front drops across the bay area and these wind speeds in san francisco will be up to 25 to close to 30 miles an hour throughout the day. not only will it be cooler but windy, too. reaching into the low 60s for the next several days in san francisco. morning temperatures in the 40s to low 50s. inland mid-80s to 72 tomorrow to 69 on saturday. you see that big drop in temperatures and it stays cool into next week. mike has a few notes for mass transit. if you're heading to oakland airport, that airport connector is not available. i've been mentioning that. the coliseum station you can take transit 73 that will take you the to the airport.

stairiest things they've ever seen and many users are unaware of the ingredients or concentration. nbc bay area responds to a san jose woman who felt misled about a satisfaction guarantee policy. >> and it was costing her money. chris chmura joins with us her story. >> reporter: laura pfeiffer bought a $2,000 sleep number bed back in december. she says she was told if she didn't like the bed she could return it within the first 100 days to get a full refund minus a $179 shipping fee. lawyer that thought that was fair within a month she wasn't happy about the bed so she called sleep number about returning it and was told she had to pay another $179 to ship it back. she was frustrated because she said she was not told she had to pay return shipping as well so she reached out to us. we contacted sleep number and the company said laura should have been given the option to return the bed using u.p.s. for only $30 but sleep number waived the shipping fee all together

ville lane where three people were shot and killed last night. we understand the coroner's office has yet to arrive so that's a major part of the investigation on the scene that needs to be taking place. police responded to a report of someone shot at this address, a house at the end of lauraville lane. officers found not one but two people dead, both shot and killed according to scours with the man who shot them still inside the apartment refusing to come out. the merge unit, which is san jose's version of swat, arrived to surround the property and try to talk the man into surrendering. neighbors tell us thejd hear police on the loudspeaker ordering the man to come out. an officer shot and killed the suspect. it's not clear what happened in the moments before the officer fired their weapon. that officer is on paid strayedive leave which is normal. the d.a.'s office and police homicide unit are also conducting a joint criminal

investigation which is standard when you have an officer involved shooting. this is the second deadly shooting involving a san jose police officer on wednesday night. another police officer shot a man during a family disturbance in east san jose. that man died of his injuries in the hospital. reporting live from san jose, bob redell, today in the bay. >> it's 6:33 right now. the san francisco police chief says he is launching a that are roe investigation after one of his officers shot and killed a stabbing suspect at a subway restaurant at fifth and market near the powell street bart station shortly before noon yesterday. subway employees say a man who appeared homeless ordered a sandwich but refused to pay for it. he then stabbed an older employee. the security guard restrained the suspect until police arrived. the guard said the suspect went after the officers and that's when an officer shot him. >> the cops came in and told us

to get down and he wasn't complying so just pushed him away from me and got out the way and he came after the cop and the cop did what he had to, shot him one time. >> the employee who was stabbed suffered non-life threatening injuries. >> trying to cope with an unexpected and devastating loss. counselors will be on hand to assist student whoos los who lo their own in the east bay. 16-year-old terence lu died when he was struck by a train riding his bicycle. he was crossing over a trestle bridge not intended for pedestrians. lu was a 4.0 student who was an active student in school and they are overcome with grief. >> when the shock happens, when people start to get to know that the death is sinking in, that's where the tears start coming in. >> friends say lu was wearing head phones when he was hit, deputies right now are

investigating. a takeover of an entire campus building at uc santa cruz continues. it's a story we told you about yesterday on today in the bay. demonstrators are taking over the administration building. the efforts are organized by the african black student alliance. their demands, more housing and resources for african-american students. a uc santa cruz spokesperson says the university will let the protests unfold peacefully. also happening now, a memorial is under way in orlando as the owner of the pulse nightclub is expected to announce plans to establish a permanent memorial at a site of the has shooting. 49 people were killed, 68 others injured during that shooting that happened last june. now the owner wants to have a memorial site that honors and remembers the victims. there is a price to being this good. the warriors still have work to do on the court. off the court the team's landlord is thinking about next season. the chronicle reporting next season's agreement may be

approved as soon as next week. there is a rent hike in store. the team would have to pay $2.5 million to rent at oracle, about a million dollars deal more than their current deal. they'll remain in oakland for two more seasons before moving to san francisco. an east bay city is considered one of the top five to live in america. that's according to the web site near niche.com. the number one spot went to ann arbor, michigan. the other bay areas, sunnysunny santa clara 29 and san jose coming up at the 88th spot. that study looked at a combination of crimes, schools, jobs and cost of living while compiling that list. >> we're looking at the cost of your mass transit that's holding steady today from yesterday but we have a delay and no connector from the home of the warriors over towards the oakland airport. that connector is not in sft but

after having such a shot start to the week. this is where we'll start out at 9:00 on saturday morning in the mid-50s. there will be more clouds in the mix but it will be comfortable and some clearing. also a slight chance of rain. we'll see a chance of rain sunday but don't cancel your outdoor plans. it will be so spotty and light it will be in and out of here and our temperatures reaching into the upper 60s. let's head to the peninsula. 67 degrees on saturday, 65 on sunday and once again that very slight chance of rain moving in. san francisco will see a few sprinkles. 60 and then a mix of sun and clouds, speaks of sunshine on sunday with highs in the lower 60s. heading to napa, it will be in the low to mid-70s. so comfortable out there. at times the sun will be nice and warm and also in san francisco we had the cinco de mayo festival in the mission district. we start out in the upper 50s so

a light jacket needed. you probably probably keep that on throughout the day as there won't be much sun beaming down then for the foster city area there's the polynesian festival on saturday. we start out in the mid-50s. noontime temperature at 60 and long sleeves throughout the day but there will be sunshine and the kentucky derby will be this weekend and we have a few celebrations going on around the bay area but if you plan to heading out to golden gate field in berkeley it will be the mid-50s so you'll have on your derby hat, maybe a sweater over your dress, temperatures reaching into the mid-60s. if not, watch it here live on nbc throughout the day. heading to carmel valley, it will be in the mid-50s so not the best weather for beach or heading to the beach or enjoying the coach cooler breezes but a mix of sun and clouds sunday.

this point. we have to get off the flight or we're going to retain the whole aircraft. >> so we're getting kicked off this plane no matter what happens? >> yes. >> the family at one point was briefly threatened with being sent to jail ahead of a red eye flight maui to l.a.x. last week. delta asked for the seat back because it was being used by their child who is under two years old. delta told them passengers that are young are supposed to fly in their parents' lap not in a seat. the family filmed the incident and posted it online saying delta treated them with disrespect. the airline says it hopes to reach a resolution with that family. >> another example of how you treat your flyers. happening today, teachers looking for a new deal on the peninsula are organizing a picketing protest before classes. this is the san bruno park school district. teachers are threatening a possible strike if negotiations don't lead to a new contract.

the picketing will take place outside of several different schools. the union says classes won't be impacted. heads up for bart riders, crews will be working on the tracks between lake merritt and fruitvale station this is weekend. that could add 20 to 40 minutes of your trip. riders on the warm springs, dublin and oakland lines will be impacted. the closure starts on friday and runs all day saturday and sunday. a new housing project in the east bay could cause traffic issues. the plan is to build 292 apartments around marina village parkway along the oakland estuary. alameda officials say with more people living in the area there will be more cars. the city says traffic is already bad and it will only make it worse. san franciscans won't pick a new mayor for another two years but

a big name throwing his hat into the ring. veteran san francisco state lawmaker mark leno. leno tells the chronicle "i'm the first in the race." he says he wants to tackle homelessness, housing traffic and the cost of living. those issues are among the top concerns san francisco voters have had during ed lee's leadership. leno has been a san francisco supervisor and went on to serve in the state assembly and senate. >> more happening on the federal level. president trump hosting a national day of prayer event and he's set to sign a religious freedom executive order that would build on the law that requires the government to prove compelling interest for any law that violates religious beliefs. the aclu and human rights campaign say this is too broad and will allow the government to discriminate against certain communities. president trump is also going to be signing an order targeting an irs rule saying churches that endorse political candidate risk losing their tax-exempt status. >> today is a critical day for the trump administration. the last chance for the house to

repeal and replace obamacare before the congressional recess. and the key question, do republicans have the votes? >> i think they do. they wouldn't have taken it to the house floor unless they did. here it is, live cameras at the house as we watch every move. debate is under way right now. we think paul ryan will call for a vote around 9:30 our time. new increased money for the pool to cover people with pre-existing conditions was worked into the bill. critics say it's not near enough but it helps mollify members of congress who were against the bill from the get go. this is the third time the hus which, remember, has a majority of republicans, has taken a crack at getting rid of obamacare, something republicans have said was their highest priority for the last seven years. budget analysis of the previous attempt at this said millions will lose their health care under the new plan and cutting

taxes for the very rich is in there as well. a quinnipiac poll about one of the previous versions of the bill show just 17% of americans want what's happening today to happen. democrat nancy pelosi has a colorful quote. "the minute they cast the vote on it, they put doo-do on their shoe, a tattoo on their forehead." the "new york times" points out the bill also takes away medicare funding paid to schools who use the money to fund special education for kids with special needs. as well as equipment and a wheelchair and speech therapists. that funding would have to come from the state. the other controversy this morning, though, not literally life and death like health care is over the former national security adviser susan rice. she's declined an invitation to testify in next week's hearing over russians' connections to the election. rice was accused by republicans of unmasking some of the americans caught up in a phone-tapping dragnet as the fbi
