a look at san francisco and the bay bridge as you start your happy friday morning to you. look at san francisco, the bay bridge, as you start your day. you'll notice a big change from yesterday. a lot of clouds hanging around. today in the bay starts right now. good morning to you. thanks for joining us. getting up early. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. i think it might be been changed on a prompter, but initially it said happy friday. >> people probably planning their weekend. you can feel the cooldown. >> it's going to be so nice this weekend to not have to deal with temperatures in the 90s. it will be cooler, but we trade that in for some clouds and a slight chance of rain. as we get a look out there now, starting out friday morning, heading out the door, it is

cloudy, even in the south bay. the marine layer is back, and we'll also have patchy dense fog along the coast as well. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s, and heading into the 70s for the south bay, and 76 degrees in concord, north bay up to 75 degrees. 62 in san francisco. these are temperatures closer to average, and we'll talk about how long this lasts coming up as we head over to mike. some slowing on highway 17. >> that's right, but i'm happy we're closer to average for temperatures. adat speed for most of the bay except for the speed sensors in los gatos. we had slowing for about a half hour, southbound. it's moving toward the summit. looks like the road crew has cleared from the area, but another slowdown through that area so there might be another traffic break. road crews doing maintenance around that area. a weekend closure, remember, this weekend, for lake merritt

stati station. that was cancelled last weekend. it will affect folks heading to the a's game on saturday. no delays this morning for any of these agencies. >> developing now, our top story. it is possible as early as this morning we would have a verdict in the sierra lamar murder case. both sides have wrapped up cloiser arguments and it's up to the jury to decide. >> bob redell live at the hall of justice. this is five years in the making. a lot at stake. >> today will mark the first full day of jury deliberations when the panel of six men and six women return to the hall of justice in san jose later today. they'll be trying to weigh both sides that were presented to them during the course of what was a three-month trial. and try to decide whether or not to convict antolin garcia torres in the murder of sierra lamar who disappeared in march of 2012. will they believe the

prosecution, which has presented evidence that the suspect's dna was found on lamar's clothes, and lamar's dna in his car, or the defense pchb side that lamar is still alive giving her body was never found. you can take the jury quite some time to come back with a verdict. >> it could take at a minimum several days, but it could even take longer for them toe1 work through the evidence. and some of it depends on whether or not there's any disagreement in the jury room. >> it's been long trial, but it's a blink of an eye compared to how much time we haven't had sierra with us. >> if the jury does convict garcia torres, it would have to decide if he should be sentenced to death. if he's not guilty, it means he will never be able to be tried again in the case even if new evidence emerges. bob redell, today in the bay. >> one we'll continue to follow.

thank you. >> it's 4:33. the new warm springs b.a.r.t. station has only been open a month and there's already property crime popping up. b.a.r.t. police say someone burglarized a jeep cherokee in the parking lot. at this point, police aren't saying if it's an isolated incident or a recurring problem. >> bracing for more testimony in a police officer killing that rocked the hayward police department and the law enforcement community in general two years ago. preliminary hearings continue for mark estrada. he's accused of murdering sergeant scott longer in a traffic stop in 2015. yesterday, officer justin green testified he drove to the scene as quickly as possible and heard a gunshot from the suspect's pickup. he said he shot multiple times into estrada's car, but the suspect was able to drive away at the time. he was arrested the next day at an oakland hospital where he was treat forked for a gunshot wound.

>> today, we're expected to learn ndetails on a mission to recover a barge. they have been trying to bring it upright for months. today, the coast guard will give us an update. >> west bay shore road in palo alto is heading towards a long-term closure today. part of the creek bridge replacement project. the road will be closed from university avenue to channing avenue. the closure starts at 3:30 this afternoon. no word on when it will reopen. we're very proud of all of the great things we have here in the bay area, including the golden gate bridge. it's one of the reasons that the bay area is the state's stop travel hot spot. that's according to a new visit by visit california. they bring in top travel spending dollars every year. there's bad news, though. part of the same study finds

good morning. i'm susan li, live from cnbc with your top business headlines. stock futures are pointed to a lower open this morning just ahead of the big april jobs report wrub the labor department just released april employment and wage data at 8:30 a.m. eastern time. consumer figures are scheduled to come out this afternoon. markets closing mixed thursday on higher trading volume. hospital stocks and insurance companies gaining ground as congress passed an amendmented version of the gop's health care bill. the energy sector taking a big hit. the main drag, as the price of crude oil dropped to the lowest level since late november. plunging nearly 5% in thursday's session. the dow losing six points to close at 20,951. the nasdaq was up two points,

6675 this morning. ride hailing service uber is in the news facing a criminal probe by the u.s. justice department. uber received a grand jury subpoena for documents for the company's use of a software tool that helped drivers avoid regulars. it was revealed in march. and ibm losing the confidence of one of its biggest investors, warren buffett saying he sold off about a third of his stake in the company since the beginning of the year. the tech giant hasn't performed the way he expected when he first started buying the company's shares six years ago, but he still owns more than 50 million shares of ibm and he has stopped selling for the moment. >> always one to watch. thank you very much, susan. hard to take your eyes off the warriors these days. a live look at oracle arena. where you can probably hear the

microclimates. 56 degrees in the peninsula and the south bay at 57 degrees. now, if you want to find out more about that bay area award for accuracy, click on the weather dropdown on the website. you'll find a link to the announcement and the weather rate site. that's nbcbayarea.com. let's get a look at the forecast as we start out this morning. at 55 degrees in the tri-valley, and 56 degrees in the east bay. looking live from our fremont camera there. san francisco, 52 degrees. and mist and drizzle starting out this morning. we're going to head into the low 70s today, up to 71 degrees in east san jose. morgan hill at 73 degrees. for the east bay, we'll see anywhere from 69 degrees in oakland to 76 degrees in concord, livermore today, a high of 71. and some upper 50s at half moon bay, and then some upper 60s in belmont. palo alto, to 69 today. and on the embarcadero, to 62 degrees. 72 today in santa rosa. as we get a live look outside on

this friday morning, we start out with cloudy skies and then you're getting ready for the day. this is how you prepare. we are in the need for maybe a hat today with all of those low clouds and also the drizzle that may mess up your hair, and also long sleeves because it will be cooler today, and thank goodness. here's the reason why. we start to see the winds coming in onshore, but it will be a very windy day. you're trying to keep the hair under control with a ball cap with the winds coming in from the northwest. at about 22 miles per hour, and then it picks up to close to 30 miles per hour this evening in san francisco, along the coastline, while inland areas will still have breezy winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour. tomorrow will be another windy day. be prepared for that. with all of the clouds and cooler temperatures. it's also going to be quite breezy. we have several weather systems passing by, but they're not very strong in terms of bringing rain. we'll see more clouds moving in for today and tomorrow. starting out at 9:00 in the morning, mostly cloudy skies and

a slight chance of rain for tomorrow evening into early sunday. other than that, it looks like it will be a very nice weekend. so windy conditions today. a high of 64 degrees in san francisco. low 60s for the weekend with that slight chance of showers, and then a little milder for the start of next week, but still some fresh breezing re-enforcing the cool air, and for today for the inland areas, we're up to 73 degrees. a chance of showers for the weekend. slight chance, wouldn't cancel any outdoor plans by any stretch of the imagination, as the temperatures will warm up to the low 80s next week. 81, the warmest temperature we'll have in the next seven days. mike, you have a crash in san francisco? >> we do. also warnings from chp about wind, maybe gusts on the bay bridge and benicia bridge. just a note from chp. we're looking to your speed sensors and all over the bay, a great flow of traffic, including across the bay bridge. on the san francisco side of westbound 80 as we approach to the skyway, we have a crash at

harrison street, affecting the off ramp. two vehicles on the shoulder. a distraction. that is it. no major problems there. or across from the oakland side. let's take you to waze. i told you about the weekend closure happening again this weekend, the lake merritt b.a.r.t. station will be closed. there's a bus bridge for ac transit. you can use 880 or 580 if you're traveling between berkeley and san leandro. you see the green and purple lines there for the freeways, basically one-minute difference right now. very easy drive. waze will help you make the chose and through the weekend. i'm going to take the weekend off for some fun stuff, but you can still monitor the traffic on your phone using waze, and we can monitor your traffic input because you're going to be on our team. you're going to help us gather that information and leverage the community. >> looking forward to the weekend. 4:49. critics of governor brown's gas tax bill are putting their foot on the brakes. a new repeal in the works. an assemblyman is organizing a

voter initiative to strike down the gas tax. that comes weeks after brown got the legislature to agree to the tax which provides more than $50 billion to improve bridges, tunnels, and roads. not all drivers are sold on repealing the plan. >> i would probably vote against it because i think we could pay the tax. now that said, let's hope they're going to take that money and actually fix these roads. >> they didn't ask their input, they didn't ask their opinion. they just rammed it through. >> it's 365,000 registered voters sign that petition, a repeal would be on its way to the ballot. gas tax collection, by the way, will begin in november. let's stay on the road. new this morning, a live look at the golden -- that's the bay bridge toll plaza you're looking at here. big reminder to drivers. put down your phones. may, officially, distracted driving awareness note. all the time -- >> almost every month.
