it is sunday, may 7th, 2017. your time is 7:00. let's start you off with a beautiful shot frahm aquatic park in san francisco. the waves licking the seashore, and expecting beautiful temperatures all across the bay area today. thank you so much for waking up with us this sunday. i'm vicky nguyen. vianey, we were outside yesterday. it was so windy. >> oh, yeah. warm, but windy. >> that's because there was winds up to 25, 30-plus miles per hour out there, which is why they kept the high wind advisory in effect. inland areas, i was out hire. it wasn't as windy, but the good news today, it's going to be breezy, not windy. south bay at 51 degrees. peninsula chilly at 49. and tri-valley also dipping into

the 40s. north bay right now at 51 degrees. and san francisco, 50. now today, you're going to notice aside from the winds being much calmer, there is no high wind advisory in effect aside from the highlighted areas. that's out of the bay area. santa rosa right now at 13 miles per hour. when you compare these winds to what we saw yesterday, definitely a lot calmer. another thing you're also going to notice heading into today is the temperature trend. we're expecting to see much warmer conditions although they are definitely more seasonable. by 1:00, 70 degrees in san francisco. yesterday, we kept the temperatures along the coastline in the upper 50s and lower 60s. san jose expected to climb into the 70s by 1:00. about 70 degrees and a lot sunnier today. yesterday, we had a combination of sun and clouds. we saw some overcast conditions in some areas which also kept us a lot cooler, but it looks like we're as of now looking at a dry and warming trend, also as we head into the weekend, but we're tracking changes so you're going to wand to tune in for the

weather forecast. >> thank you. voters across france casting ballots today in a presidential election run-off that could decide europe's future. the election is proving strikingly familiar for us here in the united states. french officials confirm a hack against the campaign of presidential candidate emanuel macron. officials say data leaked on a website mixed information from his campaign with apparently fake news. macron, the centrist candidate, has painted himself as a radical centrist. he's up against the far right candidate marine le pen, who some are calling a french donald trump. immediately after the lack, suspicions focused on the russians. >> i think this is a terrible thing. i think i would have said the same about marine le pen. it's not a question of who we might favor or not, but this shouldn't be. >> as a populist, a victory by le pen would cause a political shakeup across europe.

was questioned about the first 100 days of the trump administration. >> you can swear in the answer. >> the main focus of the questioning had to do with the republican health care plan, though. a plan republicans say will lower the cost of insurance but which does away with the individual mandate. that means you no longer would be required to have health insurance. it also allows states to opt out of requiring insurers to cover people with pre-existing conditions andxd freezes medica expansion. >> they believe health care is a privilege, not a right. you might as well say, well, people don't starve because they don't have food. what the [ bleep ] is that? >> it got the crowd's attention and the support of at last two of the people who paid $40 to watch the podcast live. >> i think she was really

charismatic and when she spoke, everyone was listening. >> questions remain, how will democrats reach an end goal of free insurance for everyone. >> there was a sort of question there of how you make incremental progress. there didn't seem to be a clear answer to. >> tom jenson, nbc bay area news. >> president donald trump is celebrating his first major legislative victory this weekend. his plan to replace the affordable care act has passed in the house of representatives, some unhappy voters have a lot to say to politicians who voted in favor of mr. trump's plan. representative tom reed from new york was one of the first to face his constituents. he said he stands by his decision, saying the president's plan will bring down cost while protecting people with pre-existing conditions. >> at least i can look in the mirror and look our constituents in the place and say i tried to be part of the effort to fix this. >> critics of the bill believe it won't help american families and instead may cause them to lose their health insurance

entirely. we'll have much more on the gop health care bill this morning on nbc's "meet the press." san francisco senator dianne feinstein and secretary of health and human services tom price will be on the show to talk about the recent health care vote. that's coming up right after this newscast. >> a san rafael man pretending to be a landlord is in police custody this morning. investigators say he preyed on immigrant women looking for housing. police arrested 38-year-old stephono maldonado on friday. he was called by an undercover officer pretending to answer one of his ads. during that conversation, he said he wanted $2,000 a month and sex in exchange for housing. >> there are other victims present, we would really like them to come forward and let us know that this happened to them as well. we have two victims we know of that remained anonymous that came forward so far, but if there's anybody else, police contact the police department. >> the police are saying please contact them regardless of

immigration status. anybody reporting information will be protected. police say maldonado posted his ads in laundromats and he believed the immigrant community would not report him for soliciting sex. >> four people in san bruno are behind bars accused of pimping and prosecution. deputies arrested two men from san francisco along with two women from southern california. the san mateo county sheriff's office says that investigators searched a search and arrest warrant on the home in the 1100 block of herman street. >> members of our sheriff's office crime suppression unit obtained information that a resident in the city of san bruno was operating illegal prostitution business. this started an intense months-long investigation. >> the sheriff's office says they partnered up with redwood city police and san bruno police to stop crimes related to human trafficking. some quick thinking by an east bay officer saved the life of his canine partner overnight.

the concord police department just posted this to its facebook page. the officer and his canine were at the scene of a crash on meadow lane about 2:00 this morning, according to police, the officer was directing traffic near his patrol car when he noticed a truck that wasn't going to stop. the officer jumped into his car and moved it just enough not to take the hit directly where his dog hancock was sitting. both were treated and released with minor injuries. the driver of that truck was arrested on suspicion of dui. much more ahead on today in the bay. coming up, there may be light at the end of the tunnel for warriors coach steve kerr. the procedure that hopefully helps relieve pain caused by complications from his back surgery. >> also, crews begin to remove a sunken barge sitting just above the transbay tube. stay with us. looking at the ggb -- from

absolutely beautiful out there, and it's actually going to be warmer than it was yesterday. so get that sunscreen out and enjoy the great outdoors. some relief could be in sight for warriors head coach steve kerr. according to warriors owner, kerr has undergone a spinal cord leak procedure on his back in the medical center in durham, north carolina. he stepped away during the playoffs to deal with his back problems. he's been dealing with complications from surgery two years ago. he remains out indefinitely. >> durant, three pointer. it's good. kevin durant from downtown. 34 points. and the lead balloons to eight. time-out, utah. >> a skip in his step. what a night for kd and the warriors. durant, 38 points on the night. the ws win a crucial game three in utah. they now lead the best of seven series 3-0. we will have full highlights and

let's give you a live look outside. this is san jose. as vianey has been telling us, we have gotten a downgrade. not as windy as it was across the bay area yesterday. there was actually a wind advisory. we're going to go breezy and higher temps today. she'll be by in a moment with exact low how high and what the work week will look like. >> crews are working today to raise the barge that capsized in san francisco bay last month. on april 7th, a 112-foot barge capsized just south of the bay

bridge, and settled above b.a.r.t.'s transbay tube. just after midnight, crews began to raise the barge to the surface and tow it to a facility for fuel removal. it was used to provide protect against corrosion. it leaks a small amount of fuel, but the reporting is no wild' life was impacted. >> one of the bay area's most popular artists is turning heads in san francisco. jeremy fish unveiled his newest creation this past weekend. and as today in the bay's joe rosato jr. shows us, it's one of the kind and the last of its kind. >> every artist has a medium. the way they express the things that fill their minds. the mind of san francisco artist jeremy fish -- >> for sure. >> -- filled more mediums than most. >> from vinyl pois to skateboards. >> it adorns t-shirts, store fronts. >> it's a play on things that

not anything i would have imagined having happen. >> nbc bay area news. >> i love it. they had great weather out there. the bunny looks a little like darth vader to me. >> he's got the gold grill, too. the way it was set up. it's cool. artisy people, the bay area. >> they had a great time out there and great weather to go celebrate the launching of that bunny. >> thankfully. it looks like the great weather is going to continue. lucky for us. we're also going to see a nice warmup in the bay area. right now, microclimate weather is still showing some cooler, slightly chilly temps for the peninsula. at 49 degrees. south bay, 51. nice and cool. in san francisco, also in the 50s. 50 degrees. 55 for the east bay and out near north bay at 51 degrees. now, the temperature trend is showing a warmup for today, but one thing you're also going to notice is that the winds have definitely died down. we're no longer under a high wind advisory except for the shaded areas. 13 miles per hour in santa rosa.

san francisco, about 10 miles per hour, and san jose, 7 miles per hour. you'll feel a much calmer, less windy day in the beay area. i want to give you a heads up as far as the high surf advisory. we are expecting this to remain in effect through tonight. that's because there's a possibility of seeing some strong rip currents and sneaker waves which could make for dangerous surf. although it's going to be a gorgeous day, be careful if you're going to be out in the water. another thing i want to mention as well. we have this low pressure system, and i have been mentioning a chance of showers for the furthest most southern counties. we have a disturbance that could bring a few showers for areas, mainly now, stuck to monterey, but santa clara county areas have a chance of seeing showers today. morgan hill, gilroy, even livermore and walnut creek have a chance of seeing a few showers passing through. if you notice by about 8:00 a.m., it begins to trek south.

mainly south and east is what we're going to keep the rain chances, at least through the afternoon. heading into sunday evening, we expect to see clearing and warming temps ahead as the upper ridge of high pressure starts building in. that's going to keep us nice and warm. you're also going to notice there's probably going to be a lot of foggy conditions, especially along the coastline as we head into the start of the work week. also into tuesday and wednesday. as far as estimated rain totals, very insignificant, if you notice down by morgan hill, less than a tenth of an inch. didn't affect us, which is why we kept mentioning, do not cancel your outdoor plans. your highs in san jose at 74. morgan hill looking at 73 degrees. los gatos also in the 70s. east bay warming up nicely. yesterday, in the upper 60s, low 70s. today, we could see 80s in the north bay. walnut creek, 76 degrees. oakland, 72, as we head to the peninsula. also warming up nicely. 70s, 60s in some area. san francisco expected to climb

to the 70s. for areas like santa rosa, climbing right back up into the 80s. as the upper ridge of high pressure begins to build in, we can expect to see slightly warmer temperatures. over the next seven days, we have changes. a warmup on the way. 68 as we start the work week. into the 70s tuesday for san francisco. the later part of the week, we keep the 60s in the forecast for a mainly dry weather forecast. now, inland areas expect to keep some breezy conditions as we head into monday. by tuesday, warming up nicely to about 78. keeping the 80s in the forecast. and then on thursday, we do have a weak disturbance that could bring the chance of seeing showers to areas like the north bay friday and next saturday. as of now, just in time for mother's day, so far, the weather looking pretty good. you never know with the weather. let's enjoy the sunshine. back to you. >> we're loving it. thanks. >> still ahead on today in the bay -- >> the most difficult thing i have ever done and probably the most important thing i have ever done. >> he's written popular how-to

holocaust, there are only a when it comes to stories of rescue and courage during the holocaust, there are only a few that are well known. schindler's list, perhaps the most famous. but a san mateo man has another one to share. a little known one with a very personal connection. today in the bay's garvin thomas has this morning's bay area proud. >> for a few years after graduating college, marty brown steen was a teacher. he was probably a good one. based on a presentation we saw him make recently to students at de la salle in conquered. what was also apparent was the story of heroism he shared was one that marty thinks all of us should hear. when you take a look at marty brownsteen's boddo of work as an

author, something immediately stands out. one of his books is not like the others. >> absolutely. always say it's the most difficult thing i have ever done but probably the most important thing. >> marty is a longtime management consultant whose writing credits include books in the for dummies series. his latest book is a world away from that, yet very close to his heart. >> it's a true story of rescue. in the holocaust. not many of those that are well known. >> two month the righteous few tells the story of franz and main, a dutch couple who saved the lives of over two dozen jews during the second world war by hiding them in their home and from the nazis. >> good start. other factors of why so few helped. >> marty said the idea to write the book began with a trip in 2009 to the netherlands with his wife, leah. >> this is a story i stumbled into by accident, not by design.

>> it was there they met the couple's children and began to learn the little known story of their parentsheroism. it was then that marty saw a picture of a plaque at the holocaust museum in israel honoring them. >> i knew what that meant. i'm blown away. you dent get that for just showing up. something heroic happened here. >> hopefully you can learn they had love, not hate. >> two years and multiple trips later, the book was finished. but marty wasn't. while on his book tour at schools, libraries and houses of worship, the response has been so positive, he has just kept going. marty and leah have now done more than 500 events. >> my journey now is sharing this story, is almost six years complete. seventh year is well booked. who would expect that? >> he's human, he got scared. >> not just the feedback that keeps marty going. it's a sense of duty as well. he is not just honoring heroes.

good morning. your time now is 7:30. you're watching today in the bay. this is a live look outside from aquatic park in san francisco. and you see the sun there. you see the waves. it's going to be absolutely beautiful weather across the bay area. and not as windy as yesterday, too. >> good morning, thank you so much for waking up with us. i'm vicky nguyen. we'll get a check of the forecast with vianey arana. you said it's going to be warmer today. >> we're looking forward to seasonable temperatures. a lot more sunshine. yesterday, we did see a nice combination of sun and clouds. that's what we're seeing over walnut creek right now. still in the 40s at 49, but it's going to be a great day to enjoy the outdoors. in the south bay, 51 degrees. peninsula, 49. tri-valley also in the 40s at 49. san francisco, still seeing some breezy conditions but it's

definitely not going to be as windy as yesterday. 51 for the north bay. temperature trend is showing a fantastic warmup by about 1:00, already in the 70s in san francisco. and yesterday, we only managed to top out into the 60s. really for the entire bay area. we saw some 70s, but today, we could see 80s in the north bay. temperature trend in san jose also expected to climb to 72 degrees by 2:00. going to be a lot warmer, but we are still expecting to see a slight chance of showers for the southern most santa clara areas. in monterey, they have seen some of those showers. >> we still have some rain in the forecast. >> yeah, on the radar. >> okay, thank you. voters across france casting ballots today in a presidential election run-off that could lead to major changes in europe. and some elements of this election, a reminder of what happened here in the united states. french officials are confirming a hack attack against the campaign of presidential candidate emanuel macron.

the concord police depart just posted this to its facebook page. the officer and his canine hancock were at the scene of a crash at about 2:00 this morning. according to police, the officer was directing traffic near his patrol car when he noticed a truck that wasn't going to stop. that officer jumped back in his car and was able to move it just enough so it didn't take the hit directly where the canine was sitting. both were treated and released with minor injuries. the driver of that truck was arrested on suspicion of dui. a powerful message for victims of sexual abuse. these quilt squares were laid out on the football field at city college of san francisco yesterday. spelling out the words, not alone. on these monument quilts are stories from more than 2,000 survivors of sexual abuse and violence. organizers have been going on tour, setting up this large demonstration. they say it's important to create public spaces for survivors to heal.

good morning. it is 7:52. it's going to be great day to enjoy the outdoors. this shot overlooking woodside. we're seeing a lot of sunshine, definitely a great day for hiking. i got out to los gatos yesterday and went on a nice hike and ended with a winery experience. so if you have a chance to do that, make sure to do it. peninsula right now, 49 degrees. the south bay in the 50s, and san francisco also in the 50s. now, we are seeing a bit of hazy skies in some area. have no fear, we should clear out nicely and those windy conditions you saw yesterday are going to shift to a breezier day, and then the winds should be dying down this afternoon. now, doppler radar is showing plenty of activity, and we have this low pressure system sitting near the fresno area which is why we're seeing the chance of showers. we have seen some showers in areas like monterey, and yes, even maybe the furthest south areas of santa clara county and santa cruz because we still see some activity on the radar.

we have a chance of seeing some showers. even in areas like walnut creek, livermore, and possibly even san jose. if we fast forward through the 8:30, 9:00 a.m. hour, we have a good chance of seeing sprinkles near palo alto, possibly campbell, but the showers for now look like they're going to stay mainly south and east and move quickly through the area. if you notice by 1:00, we clear out quite nicely and enjoy clearing skies into sunday evening. as we head into monday, the start of the work week, we're expecting to see warmer temps ahead. we have this ridge of high pressure building inland. as it begins to build inland, we're also expecting to see foggier conditions and a nice marine layer. if you wake up tomorrow and see some fog, especially along the coastline, in san francisco, now you know why. oakland, 72 degrees. livermore at 73. a high of 74 in san jose. half moon bay, 65. so we're definitely seeing seasonable temps, but if you're heading to the beach, i want to remind folks we're still under a

high surf advisory in effect through 2:00 p.m. today because we have a chance of seeing strong rip currents and sneaker waves out in that area. we're still seeing windier conditions at half moon bay. if you're heading to the beach, keep that in mind. remember to never turn your back to any wave. right now, wind speeds definitely calming down. san francisco at about 10 miles per hour. if you're wondering about your allergies, i know yesterday was very windy. pollen report right now shows trees and grass are moderate. weeds and mold are low. definitely remember to pick up that allergy medication as you make your way outside. a quick check of your sunday day planner. we have a chance of isolated showers, like i said, mainly going to stick to the south and east. temperatures in the 50s and 60s by 12:00. cool and breezy afternoon. by 3:00, partly cloudy. a high of 76. inland, 66 for the bay areas. and into monday, expecting a nice warmup, and it's going to start off very wonderful. monday, at least we're off to a sunny start. degrees. breezy hills.
