6:48 am
partisan. loyal to president obama and trying tón hurt president trump. trump fires yates after she would not enforce his travel ban, the one you were mentioning, because she it would violate the constitution, and an appellate court would later rule she was right. the crux of what's happening today, before she was fired, yates as part of her job as the nation's top cop, came to realize through fbi intercepts that natiov michael flynn had been talking to the russians, but not telling the white house the truth about those conversations. she warned that flynn, who remember, at this point had every access to every american secret, as a top white house adviser, could be turned by the russians because they knew he lied. they could hold it over him. the key point today is how strong was that warning. the white house's sean spicer called it a heads-up. yates will testify later today. her warnings were much stronger
6:49 am
than that. the other big question, why did it take white house so long to act? the president is informed his top security adviser has been talking to the russians and lying about it on january 26th. this is just"o days into the presidency. but it's not until february 13th that flynn says he's resigning. really, he was fired. today's testimony will be before the senate judiciary subcommittee led by republican lindsey graham, who has a reputation of being very suspicious of the russians. so keep in mind, when others try to paint yates as a partisan, she was ined there by a committee led by republicans. now, there are a number of investigations, one by the fbi, two others in congress, one in the house, an additional one in the senate. but we haven't heard much from them lately. this all gets under way 11:30 our time. >> all right, thank you very much. of course, scott mcgrew examines our president's tweets, executive orders and speeches each and every morning on today in the bay and he would like to hear from you.
