a verdict in the murder case that has gripped the bay area. in four hours, the man accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar will learn his fate. a story we have been following today, there could be a conclusion half a decade later, after lamar's disappearance. kris sanchez joins us live at the courthouse with reaction ahead of the much anticipated decision. this is certainly a long time coming. you and i have both been covering this since sierra disappeared. >> right. 2009, when she was headed to her bus stop near her home to head to high school in morgan hill. and ever since then, we have become very familiar with her face and the details of her family and unfortunately, the details of how prosecutors think that she died. now, the judge told us to be ready to hear that verdict read by the jury at 9:00 this morning. key can tell you inside the courthouse, there are rooms set up because of the number of

people who want to hear the verdict in person. we'll go inside later. so many people came to know all of those searches that continued after she disappeared on the way to the bus stop. today, her family is not going to get any more answers than what they have right now, but they may find that the jury believes there is enough evidence against sierra lamar's accused killer, antolin garcia torres, though her body has not been found. one of her best friendsfá is noa 20-year-old woman herself and she said the verdict is not the only thing they want. >> there's still going to be that, like, lingering question of what happened to her. we get it, this could have happened and this possibly most likely did happen. >> now, prosecutors hung their case on sierra lamar's dna evidence they say was found in garcia torres's car and his dna that was found on her clothing. now, his attorneys for their part say that the defense is

>> today, the city council here in san jose will decide whether or not to immediately enact its so called just cause ordinance for renters. a new law that requires landlords to give specific reasons when evicting 10 nlts. the reason the city might rush this into effect, is every since they approved it last month, a number of landlords have evicted tenants without cause. they believe the landlords are taking advantage of the system before the new rules go into effect. the foundation cites 13 no-cause evictions in the city over just the past three weeks including robert aquirre, who has been living in this condo in willow glen for the past two years. >> because we have been paying rent on time, in full every month. >> if the city council does not approve the emergency measure today, then the new law, the new

there's the brawl breaking out at the ft. lauderdale airport last night after passengers, you see them pulling on each other there. because there was no pilot to fly the flight. passengers rushing to the ticket counter to spirit employees. police were there waiting after they had come off the plane and their flight was canceled. that led to this mayhem. three people were arrested. spirit, which has canceled 300 flights in the past few days, blames theó2qilots union, which isxd trying to get a new contra. spirit has filed a federal lawsuit against its pilots. >> 5:06. san francisco teachers already seeking a new labor deal plan to rally today ahead of a school board meeting. san francisco unified school district is under new leadership. this will be the first time the new board meets together. before the meeting, teachers will rally outside district offices. live now to washington, d.c., where former deputy attorney general sally yates'

first public testimony yesterday is still reverberating through the walls of the capitol. we learned the d.a. urgently warned the trump white house twice about then national security adviser michael flynn. the warnings were more than what white house press secretary sean spicer described in the past as, quote, a simple heads-up. we also learned yesterday that the former president barack obama also warned then president-elect trump about possibly compromised security adviser flynn. yates told the attorney flynn wasn't telling the entire story about his conversation with russia's ambassador. >> that created a compromise situation, a situation where the national security adviser essentially could be blackmailed by the russians. >> contents of the conversation are classified. scott mcgrew will have much more on the hearing coming up at 5:45. it is 5:07 right now. two of the three guards accused in the beating death of a mentally ill inmate in santa clara county jail reportedly took the witness stand yesterday

in their murder trial. the guards pleaded not guilty in the beating death of michael tyree in 2015. the mercury news reports that two testified yesterday about texts that all three defendants exchanged in the weeks before tyree's death. prosecutors argue the texts sounded sadistic and alluded to violen violence. they testified they were meant to be humorous and not to be taken literally. >> san francisco police say the use of force incidents involving their officers are down, according to their own report. the department shows data shows there were more than 800 use of force instants in january and march, and that is down 16% compared to the same time period last year. the justice department came down hard on the sfpd last year after several officer-involved shootings. >> alameda county leaders will vote to approve a new ambulance
