good morning. it is friday morning. we're looking live from our san francisco camera. there is the beautiful city skyline. it's chilly out there, so grab a coat before you leave the house. "today in the bay" starts right now. it does feel chilly when you get outside. i have some goosebumps over there. >> later today i'm going to take you up on that, mike. what are we looking at to warm us up. >> it will be sunny, but it will be a cooler day and also breezy that will make it feel cooler on this friday. let's look at what to expect. out the door it's 53, and breezy

in the trivalley. 43 in the north bay. after the cool start we'll see the higher temperatures, gusts much to 30 miles an hour around the coast and in san francisco. north bay, sunshine up to 65. not too bad. it gets milder as we head into the weekend. we'll have a look at that forecast, mike is checking in on a crash in el cerrito. >> one of few incidents out there on the roadway. your speed sensors are green, but to the upper shore, and at central avenue, we do have an earlier crash, but seconds ago it looked like chp was getting ready to clear ever off the board there. and the upper east shore freeway is not seeing major problems. that sounds good. breaking news just into our

newsroom. a suspected arsonist may have struck again. two more car fires overnight, this time in walnut creek. >> these latest flames are just a handful of a map. it's popped up in the area the last few days. neighborhoods in martinez and brentwood have also fallen victim. we're live from walnut creek this morning with what fire investigators are say about the latest round. good morning. >> good morning to you, sam and chris. i did speak with the fire marsh marshal, and he tells us he believes this car fire and a second one this morning in lafayette are related to at least ten other car fires, including the string of car fires, that the same person or persons are setting these ablaze. the only difference is these cars are parked in the street, not the driveway.

the one here in walnut creek happened around 2:06 this morning. the second one was reported about ten minutes later just unit three miles away. the fire marshal says there a common thread, but would that divulge what that is, does not want to taint the investigation. yesterday morning there are two car fires, one in brentwood, the second one about a mile and a half away. early wednesday morning there was another car fire at a home in walnut creek, and a second one in lafayette, sort of like this morning. in early monday morning you had this car fire outside a home in mar thin. in all incidents, no one was hurt, all the homes escaped serious damage. this is near a home yesterday, and you can see a person walking through the -- they believe that person is a person of interest. back out here live.

you can see the damage to what was looks like a honda sedan, perhaps a civic. it's on juanita drive in walnut creek. within the next 30 minutes we're going to head over to the location where we'll be interviewic that fire marshal on tape. not a way to wake up. thank you, bob. b.a.r.t. reportedly plans to address what it sees as a decline in ridership, that is the number of homeless people in stations and trains. they sayed number of complaints surrounding homeless activities has gone up, and at the same time b.a.r.t. ridership is dropping. the agency plans to launch a new effort to clean up b.a.r.t. stations and to help homeless people find shelter, but elsewhere. we will have a live report for you coming up at 5:30. b.a.r.t. directors are also reportedly laying out what they

plan to do -- most of that money will go to boosti ining infrastructure. more than one third of the money will go for a train control system. about $500 million will go into repairing the tunnels and other structure. an emergency meeting about to do so under way in contra costa county. it has to do with a grand jury's recommendation to remove the d.a. there. yesterday a grand jury announcing that mark peterson in its opinion should be ousted for misconduct. jurors determined that peterson has spent $66,000 in campaign money on himself over the course of several years. back in december, peterson admitted to spending the money on meals, clothing and movie tickets among other things when he was serving as treasurer for his reelection campaign. a high school that's reportedly seen a surge in racist behavior is planning to take steps to combat that

the week on a positive note, the nasdaq snapping a five-day winning streak, investors reacting to disappointing earning. look for data today on retail sales and inflation, and today earnings from j.c. penney's. the nasdaq down 13 to 6116. full-time jobs may in and out be easier to get, data shows the number of parttime workers who would prefer fulltime positions fell to the lowest level in nine years. experts say that's because of a shrinking pool making it harder for companies to find job candidates. instead many firms are turning parttime jobs into fulltime positions to atrablgt more applicants. jpmorgan chase says it's back online after an outage last night. customers could log into the website or mobile app, but they were not ability to transfer
