or so. you see a couple different perspective. on the right an area look from the helicopter. lock media outlets are reporting that an officer was found shot in an alley. also new, that the shooter is down. again, we are looking at pictures from the scene earlier this morning as police responded to that active shooter in the ohio. this is a bedroom community outside of columbus. this could be signaling that possibly the situation is over. we have local media reports, as sam said, that say the gunman is possibly down. we do know there's an elementary school there in the area. that school is on lockdown. of course, this is 9:00 in the morning. large force there, the law enforcement force, and a show of lots of fox in the neighborhood

here as well. we're going to continue to follow this for you, perhaps why that nursing home was targeted and the condition of that shooter and that officer, we'll bring that to you. in the meantime breaking news to report from home as well. this happening overnight. two more car fires reported in contra costa county. those fires tame out of lafayette and walnut creek. >> they're the latest in a string of fires. you may be saying another one? in total seven fires just since mopped. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live in walnut creek to bring us up to speed. we see an example of what happened right behind you, bob. good morning. they believe these two fires are

related. there are at least -- from earlier this week, that the same person person other pence -- the one on juanita drive happened around 2:06 this morning. the other went 11 minutes later. the fire marshal tells us thus a common thread between the fires, but won't divulge that common thread, does not want to taint the investigation. how do they cases usually break? >> it's always with a tip of some kind. you know, there's something that happens where something saw something or something observed something or a camera picked something up, and then we start putting those pieces together. it's very much like a jigsaw puzzle. the most pieces of the puzzle we

have, the more likely we are to get a clearer picture. yesterday morning there were two car fires, the first one around 3:30 in the morning, the second one less than ten minutes later. early wednesday morning, we had a similar situation, we had a fire at walnut creek, and a second one just over two miles away. fortunately in all instances, no one has been hurt and all the homes have escaped serious damage. this is surveillance video from a home in brentwood that might have captured a person of interest. you can see this person walking through this frame. thorns believe this is possibly a person of interest involved. reporting live here in walnut creek, bob redell here in "today in the bay." mourners today will say a final farewell to a south bay

husband and wife who were killed by their daughter's exboyfriend. they were shot and killed last week in their willow glen home. police later shot and killed this man, the gunman, who was under a restraining order to avoid the couple et cetera daughter. today's memorial service is planned for a church in san jose. happening right now, the search is on for a flasher who police say targeted a mom and her toddler on a hiking trail. it happened on wednesday afternoon as the woman was walking with her child. police say the man was hiding behind the bushes at the time, came out and exposed himself as the woman was walking by. the suspect is described as a whiteman in his mid 20s, about six feet tall with dirty blond hair and a bun. >> ucsf psychiatrist is behind bars this morning, accused of using the university's wifi to upload imaging of child pornography. investigators say doctor billy

lockhart and his radio many mate benjamin martin had hundreds of photos and videos. lockhart started hits residency in the department of psychiatry last year and spent one supervised month working with children. he also worked at san francisco general hospital, and neighbors say they are just stunned. >> we didn't know the extent and didn't know the guy was an aspires doctor or whatever with incredible credentials. he went to yale and everything. >> lockhart is on paid leave pending the investigation. both men face felony charges. >> 6:07 right now. a rallies cry to bolster support for public education. assembly members will be joining parents, teachers and students to call for increased support and for transparency and accountability of charter schools. this is happening at 4:00 today in oakland in front of the oakland technical high school, which faces program and services cuts from oakland unified.

happening today union city b.a.r.t. station unveils the new east entrance. that new entrance gives a direct like to get to the station. the city plans to build more housing in that station district as part of the long-term development project. union constituent mayor vernaci and b.a.r.t. director blalock are co-hosting that opening. that's set for 11:00 today. at outreach campaign has been established so everyone understands the dangers of the third rail on the latest extension stretch. b.a.r.t. is testing the ten miles of track near the warm springs and berryessa stations. because they're already electrified. b.a.r.t. wants people to understa -- vta wants people to understand they

it was nice, yesterday. loved it. it will be even cooler today. it does start out with some clouds this morning, all of that will be rolling out, temperatures in the lower 50s there, heading into the upper 60s for the inland valleys, up to 66 in cupertino, also 66 in morgan held for the east bay antijob, also at 69 degrees. 59 degrees at half moon bay, so it stays cool along the coast. palo alto up to -- and san francisco, we'll struggle to make it out of the 60s there. our winds coming in from the northwest up to about 23 miles an hour, and then as we go into the evening, those winds

here are the two of the seven fires. walnut creek, also ones in brandywood and mar continued. they have. they believe that all seven fires this week are related. good morning, sam and kris, you're looking at six suspicious fires here, on juanita drive. you're looking at what's left of an acura sedan. that burned around 2:06 this morning. the then about sene minutes later there was another fire. you can look at this. that was a honda or toyota suv. you can see the engine compartment was burned. we spoke with the fire marshal, irfoot protection district. he tells us that these two new car fires this morning are related to at least ten others

this year, including a string of five fires from earlier this week. he says there is a common thread, but won't divulge exactly what that is. >> there's a whole bunch the things things that can be common. we've seen various things that leads us to believe that the same group are spoken for igniting these fires. yesterday two, early wednesday morning a similar situation, a car fire in walnut creek and another one in lafayette, and on early monday morning, a car fire in martinez. fortunately no one has hurt and all of the homes have escaped any major damage. bob redell, "today in the bay." thank you very much. happening later today there's an emergencies sit meeting, to discuss the grand jury's recommendation to remove the

d.a. there yesterday it was announced mark peterson should be ousted for personal misconduct. in december peterson admitted to spending that money on meals, clothing and movie tickets when he was serve as treasurer for the reelection campaign. this morning b.a.r.t. is trying to figure out why there's more complaints from riders and fewer people are using the transit cement. system. as they try to figure out why people are abandoning b.a.r.t. pete? >> reporter: good morning, kris. this is according to a report in the sfgate that says the overall atmosphere is a concern for some passengers, at least at some b.a.r.t. stations. as a result you're seeing an overall dip as far as riders taking b.a.r.t. during the week. the current numbers the about 432,000 people using b.a.r.t. when it comes to the ridership,

but that's a 3% drop from the last fiscal year. some of those complaints include overcrowded trains, but one of the top concerns is the homeless problem that we're seeing at the downtown san francisco stations. b.a.r.t. is working with sfmta as well as homeless outreach groups to fix the problem. part of the strategy is adding more workers to help with the cleaning efforts as working with the outreach groups to get the homeless to shelter. also higher barriers to avoid fare evaders as well as community officers to patrol the stages. b.a.r.t. is in the early stages. they hope to at it to the upcoming budget for the next fiscal year which begins in july. >> thank you, pete. b.a.r.t. director for the first time are also reportedly laying out what they plan to do with the billions coming their way from last november's bond measure. most of that money we know will boost infrastructure, but more

than a third of it will also cover the cost of a new power system and train control system. about $500 million will repair tunnels and other structures. an owes bay high school that's reportedly seen a recent surge in racism is taking steps to combat the problem. the chronicle reporting that a handful of piedmont high school students have been suspended recently in connection with gestures and posts online. the school is now developing an action plan for next year, which would include a hotline allowing students to easily report abuse or bullies. systemwide testing begins on the new smart train commuter service in the north bay. the first phase runs from san ra testify so. the agency says that new quiet zones could soon be in effect. that means the trains will not sound their horns in high residential areas. testing will continue for at least the next few weeks, though, there's no hard launch date at this point for the new
