statement i made. i thought perhaps it was bad news for the pedestrian involved in the crash in the on-ramp. a slight build for the east bay and tri-valley, but it's here, marsh road has been closed so access onto northbound 101 at the scene is what's affected there. only that short portion of westbound marsh road is effected and you'll use willow as your on-ramp, an alternate. but the pedestrian involved, no reports of major injuries. it sounds like the crash itself which may take time to clear, and our chopper is headed to the scene. meanwhile, a quick look at the san jose camera, and the first burst that kicked in a few minutes ago has started to clear. a lighter flow, and we tend to see that at this time every year. >> thank you very much. a developing story we're following out of the east bay this morning. two more people are injured after a late night shooting on interstate 880 in hayward. this happened at the wooden exit near the south burn mall.

we're joined by pete to explain what led up to the shooting. good morning. looks like pete, can you hear us? can you hear me, buddy? >> reporter: yeah, i can hear you now. good morning to you in the studio. chp is still looking for the shooter in all of this, and there's been more -- there's been dozens of these shootings on the east bay freeways dating back to 2015. let's show you some scene video from last night. this is when it took place in hayward. according to chp, it took place around 9:00 p.m. last night and they're telling us it was a gray toyota tacoma traveling southbound. gets off on the off-ramp at whitton avenue and that's when another car fired shots. two of the three people in the tacoma are hit but their injuries are non-life threatening. chp is looking for the shooter but they have limited

information. >> the suspect vehicle continued on. it's unknown what the suspect vehicle is or what direction it continued to travel because we have no independent witnesses at the time. >> now, chp says this appears to be an isolated incident. it's unknown what led to the shooting and no description of the suspect or suspect vehicle. this is still an active investigation with chp. if you have any information to help out with this case, contact chp. we're live in hayward. pete suratos for today in the bay. >> thank you very much. 6:03 right now. happening now, authorities and lawmakers will lay out a plan to crack down on freeway shootings along the busy east bay cordear. it plans for shot spotters to line interstate 80 and highway four between richmond and antioch. when shots are fired, an alert is sent out to the chp in seconds. authorities say there have been at least 30 freeway shootings in contra costa county in the past year and a half. an investigation into what caused a massive inferno at an

east bay construction site continues this morning. firefighters continue to canvas the scene in emeryville checking for hot spots. crews safely dismantled an unstable crane damaged in the five-alarm fire early saturday morning. it was in danger of toppling over into nearby homes or power lines. the second time in less than a year that same building has burned. >> business and tech news now. happening today, the massive cyberattack that hit computers around the world late last week could spread again today. >> scott mcgrew explains what you need to know so you don't become a victim of the attack. >> don't run an obsolete operating system, that simple. the wanna cry worm takes advantage of people in organizations who did not upgrade their computers and software from windows xp despite warning after warning from microsoft. this is the image you'll see on your screen if you're hit with the malware. a ransom note that said your data has been encrypted and the

only way to get it back is if you pay that ransom. as many as 200,000 computers were hit over the weekend. a lot of them belonged to hospitals. we saw it first in great britain. within hours, it was in more than 100 countries. the concern is some people in asia and here in america may just now be using the computers that are vulnerable. older computers at businesses logging on for the first time this morning. microsoft said months ago it would stop supporting xp, but it has issued an emergency patch. the other twist to the story is the exploit was first discovered and used by our own national security agency, which then managed to lose it to hackers. worse, it's one of many tools that the nsa lost in that hack. this is exactly what happen app would happen when the fbi led by james comey demanded apple create a backdoor in its iphone

operating system following the san bernadino attack. apple said no, the government might lose control to the key to the back door, and apple was right. we'll continue to watch this spread. mostly been knocked down so far so good, but it's like a human virus, one computer afexfects many. you're not going to get your information back unless your pay your ransom. and we're hearing the bad guys will release your information if you pay. >> more than 150 countries, as you said. pretty amazing. >> 6:06 right now. life in prison or the death penalty. the defense team for the man convicted of killing-year-old sierra lamar will begin trying to spare him from the death penalty. a jury found antolin garcia torres guilty of first degree murder. the prosecution and defense will face off in a special hearing. both sides plan to bring in psychologists. his childhood is almost certain

to be brought up, including his father who is districted on 17 kouns of child molestation. volunteers who searched for sierra for years say a troubled past is no cuse for what he did to the morgan hill teen. >> everybody has rough childhoods. a lot of people were poor. a lot of people have gone through a lot of things in their life that they -- that others don't even know about it, but we're still all walking around law abiding citizens and not committing crimes. >> experts say that sierra's parents will be primary witnesses for the prosecution during the sentencing phase. police caught group of teenagers accused of attacking a man at a san mateo county b.a.r.t. station. those five teens reportedly battered the man on a train at the station, then ran to a nearby neighborhood when police arrived, but they didn't get away. four were cited for battery and told to stay away from b.a.r.t. stations. it fifth teen was not involved. part of highway 17 is going to be closed this morning as

caltrans crews are repairing guardrails there. the number 2 northbound lane will be closed from 9:30 this morning to 2:00 in the afternoon. caltrans says the drivers should not pkt delays longer than 15 minutes. >> happening today, cycling fans will flock to the south bay. stage one started yesterday in sacramento with more than 200 professional cyclists taking part. today's stage gets under way in modesto a little after noon. this is a live look from modesta where they're setting things up. races will go about 90 miles, ascending mt. hamilton along the way. they're going to cross the finish line at san jose's motorcycle county park probably a little bit after 4:00 p.m. there's a look at the route. >> a lot of people rooting them on. in the meantime, a live look at oracle arena. warriors fans yesterday saw a comeback for the ages. again, this is, of course, the home of the warriors this morning as they recount what just happened. >> you never want to count them

out. >> not a chance. i did and i'm sorry to say that was a mistake. they were down by as much as 25 before mounting an epic second-half come back in game one of the western conference finals against san antonio. a key factor was the ankle injury that kawhi leonard suffered. see him going down right there. he tweaked an ankle injury. once he went out, there warriors went on an 18-0 run. they tied the game with less than two minutes left and won 113-111. steph scored 40 points. >> took us a minute to figure it out, to get, you know, up to that game speed after this little break. and definitely a nice way to win game one. >> well, they knocked off the rust, but this might have helped as well. warriors head coach steve kerr inspired the team at half time with a speech. he appeared at oracle for the first game since stepping aside after complications from back surgery. >> coming up on 6:10 on this

morning. and we will start out with some mostly clear skies and high temperatures today reach into the 60s. as we go throughout the afternoon, skies stay all clear, but the winds will start to pick up. by tomorrow, we will have a cold front moving in that will bring it down to our temperatures that stay in the 50s and 60s with some light showers moving in. but overall, it will be mostly dry day and some breezy winds. mostly cloudy skies, and then as it clears out early on wednesday, we'll have a warmup ahead. heading into the forecast, we're looking at some upper 80s for the inland yeahs. i'll talk more about that, but mike is tracking a major accident on the roads. >> a big deal here. choppers over the scene. so it does have a significant impact to the peninsula traffic, but it's much less than perhaps we thought from the originally thought. a tow truck also involved a pedestrian. that was taken over to a hospital or a trauma center

nearby. we don't know exactly where that person was taken, but it sounds like the injuries are off scene now. now, the only thing left is the accident investigation and we'll follow the condition of that pedestrian involved. i have from time to time seen them allowing traffic on via the diamond lane. still, avoid this on-ramp getting over to northbound 101 for the time being. on the map, this is where it is, just north of willow. the on ramp and ramp clear of the activity. as we zoom out, no real impact toward the peninsula and no problems for the south bay. that's not bad. >> thank you. new overnight, two firefighters injured battling a house fire in the east bay. why the people who live in the home could be facing charges as a result. plus, a big day for television, as networks unveil their fall programming lineups.

at 10:00, still in the upper 50s, but at noon time, up to 64 degrees. it will still be cool today, but we're in for a warmup with all of this sunshine. more on that microclimate inust five minutes. >> and an easy drive down east shore freeway. a mild building starts for the east shore itself, for westbound 80, and also tracking a crash over in menlo park. >> thank you very much, kari and mike. new this morning, two firefighters are recovering after they were injured responding to a house fire in antioch. firefighters responded to a home on blithe drive. two were shocked by an unprotected electrical circuit. the house has extensive damage, as you see here. but luckily, everyone was able to get out. crews say someone inside that home was stealing power and could face charges. the palo alto unified school district under fire for allows a student found guilty of sexual assault twice to continue

attending classes. a 17-year-old student athlete at palo alto high school sexually assaulted one girl and then another girl roughly a year later. an attorney for the athlete said he was 15 at the time of the first incident and the case is supposed to remain confidential. both victims believe their attacker should have been expelled or at least not allowed to continue playing sports. >> it is the drug that killed prince. now fentanyl is showing up in counterfeit pills and street drugs here in the bay area. vicky nguyen joins us with a look at the rise of fentanyl. >> fentanyl mimics the effects of prescription pain killers and even heroin. but it's a lot cheaper and far more powerful. in smaller doses. drug agents say that combination issing a flood of fentanyl-laced drugs onto the streets. sometimes taken by unsuspecting users and just a tiny amount can kill. san jose mother shelly lost her son to fentanyl, a drug she had never heard of. >> and i just kept thinking,

beautiful sunrise on this monday morning. this is for the mothers out there. and it's only 49 degrees. let's take a look at the temperatures. 51 now and heading up to 61 today. after this chilly start, it will be breezy with a lot of sunshine going into this afternoon. and the rest of the week, we will have a chance of rain tomorrow. mostly some light rain and then the rest of the week, we start on a warming trend. now as you head out the door, only 48 degrees in the peninsula. it's 41 degrees in the north bay. clear skies also in san francisco and the east bay, 53 degrees and heading up to 67 today 72 in the tri-valley. also some low 70s for the north bay. east bay looking at the frecamera. up to 63 degrees. as we go throughout the day in oakland, we start out at 56 degrees and a few clouds in the mix, but mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s. if you suffer from allergiealle you're probably like me,y struggling right now. it's mostly the tree and grass

pollen. olive, juniper, and pine are the main offenders right now. as go through the next couple days it will be nice to get rain in here to wash out the aren januarys, but only a slight chance of rain tomorrow. and then our temperatures warming up for the rest of the week. inland areas go from the upper 66 today to 80 degrees on friday. the warmest day on saturday, maybe making some beach plans for you as we will see some of the cool temperatures we had over the weekend really warming up over the next several days. we'll be talking more about that, but mike is still tracking that crash in menlo park. >> affecting the on ramp at menlo park's marsh road getting on northbound 101. let's look at what we can see. our chopper was overhead, but they might have had to move in the last couple minutes. this map is the same area we showed you. the on ramp from westbound marsh road getting on northbound 101,

the most heavily used portion of the area that is currently closed because of the crash investigation. we saw that one lane was getting by. use willow, farther clear to the south clear of any activity, and the dumbarton bridge, traffic onto and off of there is not affected. in fact, a light volume all the bay. a smooth flow of traffic for most of the bay area. we'll check. we know about the tri-valley and the east bay. here's a change we have seen. dublin over towards fremont. earlier, they were suggesting the blue route, which is now the longest route, saving you seven minutes is that purple route coming through the tri-valley. pleasanton, and sunol. you make your choice on your waze system as well. check your iphone or android and make sure you're on our profile. and when you're on here, watch this, you hit the magnifying glass and click on your profile and then select the team, nbc bay area wazers. that's where we get a lot of information, where we're share a lot of information. it's a back and forth.

welcome back. 6:24 on your monday. the golden state's olympic bid could be in jeopardy. olympic officials praising the 2024 bid presentation by paris as exceptional and well detailed. >> paris and los angeles are the only remaining fine lstzs for the 2024 games. the international olympic committee is in paris right now as part of a three-day trip. the committee visited los angeles last week. they talk about why the city would be a great choice. >> we put forward the main messages around the celebration. because definitely, they have been impressed by the quality of the landmarks and the iconic venues. it would offer to promote the games and make sure that those games would be unforgettable. >> the olympic committee will visit almost all of the potential olympic venues today before another of discussions with the bid committee starts tomorrow. so france giving america here a

run for our money. >> the heat is. nbc bay area responds to a san ramon woman who says a kitchen aplienls was not installed properly. >> and she was worried it might get damaged or worse, hurt someone. >> this case dates back to 2012 when augusta rosa spotted several appliances from pacific sales in concord. they sent out an independent contractor to install them. last year, augusta was having some recall work done on the microwave and that tech told her the microwave hadn't been properly installed. it wasn't secured to the wall. she asked pacific sales to come out and properly install the micro27, but the company said no because she purchased it too long ago. instead, they mailed her bolts and said hire someone else to install it properly. she didn't think it was right so she reached out to us. we reached out to pacific sales and were redistricted to best

sunshine. here's a look at our other san jose camera. you can see the beautiful sunrise. in willow glen, temperatures in the 50s, but then in the upper 60s there today. but that's still cooler than our average high tempfor this time in may, at 74 degrees. as we go into the next several days, we go well above and beyond as the temperatures heat up. i'll talk more about that in seven minutes. mike has progress for the menlo park crash. >> we have one lane open here. we have video taken by sky ranger. our chopper was overhead a few minutes ago. you see the hov, the diamond lane, isn't blocked. chp tells us that lane is open, west marsh road into north 101, you see the cars. the crash investigation continues. it sounded like the earlier crash involved a pedestrian. the injured person has beenen away from the scene. you can also use willow, farther

to the south. you see mild slowing heading into the area as folks come off the dumbarton bridge, past facebook and into the neighborhood. willow will keep you clear of all that activities and the peninsula is clear of most of the activity at all for the morning commute. a smooth drive for the south bay, and there's the east bay and tri-valley. mild standard build there and the metering lights are on. >> thank you very much. 6:32 right now on your monday. new this morning, investigators looking into what caused this san jose house fire. this happened, of course, last night. firefighters busy knocking it down early morning. it broke out at a home on 24th and mclaughlin about 1:30 in the morning. firefighters say flames were on the first and second flooroffs the house, working their way up to the attic. nobody was injured, but two people were forced out of the home. some drivers passing by saw the fire and pulled over to show huh they could help. >> then we stopped and talked to the family. we helped them out, gave them waiter. then we stayed for a bit.

until the fire trucks came. >> homeowners say the home was being remodeled at the time before the fire. >> today, we could learn the name of the man arrested in connection with a string of car fires in the east bay. >> of course, we reported on this all last week. today in the bay's bob redell joining us live outside of the fire protection district in pleasant hill with information we have learned about the suspect. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. contra costa county fire protection police say the suspect is not only connected with the seven cars that took place here in the county just last week, but several more. that's why the suspect now faces 43 arson charges. today, we expect that the district will release the suspect's name. what we know so far is he's a 36-year-old man. lives here in the county. special arson task force helped arrest him saturday morning at a

mcdonald's in benicia less than a mile away from another car fire had just been set early that morning. he now sits in jail with bail set at $3 million. investigators say that all the recent car fires do have a common thread that connects them. that's suggesting they were started by the same person. what that commonality is, investigators are not saying. reporting in pleasant hill, bob redell, today in the bay. >> thanks for the latest there. >> 6:34 right now. grieving friends will hold a prayer service tonight in fremont for a high school senior killed in a crash that left her mother seriously injured. the 18-year-old was killed when police say a car driven by her mother struck another car while making a turn on fremont boulevard. it happened early yesterday morning. friends say that james logan high school senior had just been picked up after prom. last night, friends who were visiting the accident scene were overcome with grief. >> she was like the funniest person ever. i want her to be remembered as a

person that will always help someone and a person that will be there for you no matter what. >> police say two men in the other car in their 20s suffered minor injuries. police have made no arrests but they say they're looking into whether alcohol played a role in that crash. happening later today, santa clara valley water district members meeting to consider ways to address problems that were spawned by homeless encamp mments near south bay water ways. last year, a special committee was formed to develop ideas to tackle homeless encampment issues. they're considered using income from district owned rental properties to cover the cleanup costs there. also looking at the idea of usingy homes on wheels as a way to help house the homeless population. also happening today, fire season officially begins for the east bay regional park district. the district is preparing for fires in 120,000 acres of park

land in contra costa and alameda counties. the fire chief says grass, trees, and brush grew a lot because of all the water from the heavy winltser rains. >> 6:36. fremont regional park set to be open today after ten months being closed to the public. it was ordered closed after two neighbors sued the park district. the neighbors were concerned about traffic and parking on streets leading to the park. the district agreed to upgrade the roads as part of a settlement. well, a great monday morning commute right now. i know that sometimes is an oxymor oxymoron, but it's a nice flow. gentle build for most of the usual suspects. unusual, an issue on the peninsula at this time of day, but willow, the on-ramp is your access point for 101 because marsh still has -- basically, you have limited access to the on ramp heading off the

dumbarton bridge. but the access is granted after the earlier crash investigation we had there. and it's continuing with activity, but the roadway again is open from that side. an easy build for the tri-valley. 680 over here, mild slowing for hey into union city for southbound 880. not a major concern. i want to point out quickly the transit agencies are moving well now, but vta, we have gotten a warning from them there will be minor reroutes as the amgen bike race comes down through 2:00 and 4:30. they'll have subtle changes. check the website. a quick look at the san mateo bridge. look at that westbound, the taillights going away from us, hard to make out because of the haze at the toll plaza itself. a pretty predictable pattern getting across the san mateo bridge. we like to use this as a meter of what to expect. >> 6:37 right now.

coming off a great weekend, and things are going to warm up eventually here. >> let's make it mothers month instead of just a day. >> today, we keep the cool temperatures and highs in the 60s, but let's jump right to the saturday forecast because look at how hot it will be inland. up to 86 degrees. and along the coast, 75 degrees. for sunday, it's still going to be very warm. reaching into the upper 80s and to degrees along the coast. the bay at 85 degrees on sunday. look at napa valley this weekend. in the 90s. even hitting 94 degrees on saturday. all of that sunshine, and even hot as you head farther to the north. shasta trinity national forest up to 98 degrees on this sunday. it's going to be sizzling around the and also for the bay area. we'll come back home, take a look at today's forecast coming up in three minutes. look forward to that. thank you so much, kari. >> 6:38. up next on today in the bay,

it's 6:42 with a clear sunrise looking over the south bay right now. and it's also fairly chilly. only 49 degrees with highs today reaching into the upper 60s. still very comfortable after a nice mother's day weekend. our temperature trend starts out in the low 50s at 8:00. 65 degrees, and as you get ready to head home, later on today, it will be in the upper 60s. still bright and sunny. we will see some changes. a slight chance of rain in the forecast, then a warmup. that's all coming up in about six minutes. and we're looking at a half hour now. that's the turning point for the east shore freeway. actually, not a turning point. we still see a steady build expected heading to the bay bridge toll plaza. >> thank you very much, kari and mike. >> 6:42 right now. live pictures from the chp office in hayward. we are standing by for updates

on a late night shooting on 880 that hurt two people. according to the chp, it happened just after 9:00 p.m. police say a gray toyota tacoma was going southbound when another car fired at the driver's side. two out of the three people in the tacoma were hit by bullets, but their injuries are not considered life threatening. >> 6:43 right now. people in san francisco's russian hill neighborhood remain on edge. this was frightening yesterday. a chaotic rolling gun battle playing out right outside of their doors. happened about 9:30 yesterday morning along polk street near lombard. it had beam there scrambling for cover. gunmen in two cars were shooting at each other as they were cruising down the street. amazingly, no one was hit by gunfire, but shell casings liltered the street artswards. >> i heard what i thought was a fire cracker and then another one. about 12 in total coming down polk street right here. >> as you see in the video, one

the ninth circuit blocked the first ban. now a different set of judges on the same panel will consider the revised version. >> north korea says a new missile it tested can carry nuclear weapons a long distance. the missile was tested on sunday. the nation leader, kim jong-un, promised more tests and threatened the u.s. and its allies in the pacific. the threats aren't new, but the progress is. some experts and officials in tokyo believe this missile may have the longest range in north korea's arsenal. the white house spoke out against the latest missile testing, calling it flagrant meddling. >> and a peculiar reference to rush? >> surprising reference. after a previous missile test in north korea in early april, secretary of state rex tillerson and the state department said the united states has spoken enough about north korea. we have no further comment.

that was really blunt talk. it was like a mike drop. we didn't think we would hear more. but after this latest missile test this weekend, the white house issued a lengthy response, including this menth of russia. the white house said with the missile impacting so close to russian soil, in fact, closer to russia than japan, the president cannot imagine that russia is pleased. not clear why the white house intentionally brought up russia at a time when it's trying to distance itself from russia. perhaps it's to bring more pressure on north korea. over the weekend, a growing number of members of called for the white house to lease recordings of the president talking to former fbi director james comey. we don't know if the tapes actually exist. but you'll remember the president strongly hinted they do, with this tweet on may 12th. james comey better hope there are no tapes of our conversation before he starts leaking to the press, the president said. people close to donald trump said they know he's taped

much more comfortable later on today. you do still need a jacket when you're heading out. only 48 grees in palo alto. 53 in oakland and san francisco at 50 degrees. look at these highs later today. up to 66 in gilroy. 65 in los gatos. the east bay, up to 64 inward. antioch, 71 degrees. a few low 70s inland, but look at the coastal temperatures. 57 degrees at half moon bay in belmont. up to 64 degrees. 60 on the embarcadero, and the north bay seeing highs in napa up to 70 degrees. a lot of sunshine. as you look out the window, it probably looks warmer than it is. so make sure you do grab the sunglasses to protect your eyes from all of that sun and also a nice warm jacket as you get ready for the day. but you'll be taking it off later on as we saw the temperatures making it into the low 70s inland. but you'll still probably wear the jacket all day long in san francisco with our high temperatures in the low 60s, and we will only be there for a few hours before we drop back in the

50s later on this evening with breezy winds. as we go hour by hour, we do see a lot of sun starting out the day, and even into the afternoon, our highs in the low 60s. but our breezy ones will make it feel very cool. as the weather system approaches from the north, it will bring in some spotty light showers. but it's not really looking like much here. as we go into early tomorrow morning into the afternoon, any green here is where we may see some rain. and it doesn't look like a lot. it all clears out as we head into wednesday. and these temperatures go from the low 60s today to 58 degrees tomorrow in san francisco. and then look ahead to the end of the week, into the weekend. some 70s there. while we're in the 70s in san francisco, it will be in the upper 80s inland and the hottest day of the week will be this saturday. we have light traffic, but he's also tracking two crashes. >> that's right. and traffic starting to build on pace for a monday morning as far as where we're seeing the slower drive.

the lighter volume overall, and we're focusing on this crash on the peninsula where we have regained access to 101, but limited access. from marsh road, the slower drive heading up past willow and willow is where you want to head over to high 101. marsh still has the crash investigation blocking most of the on-ramp. the rest of the peninsula moves well. south through pleasant hills and main street, reports of a crash that may be blocking one lane. that's as we see the build from concord and over toward highway 24 as you head to lafayette. a smooth flow of traffic down the east shore freeway. on the waze system, the same area, waze lets you make a choice from berkeley to san francisco. still better to use the congested portion of east shore freeway because much more mileage takes much more time. use waze, a better decision than going at it without checking anything. you chick on the magnifying glass and name, check the team.

6:56 right now. welcome back. before you head out the door here at the top stories on today in the bay. >> we start with a live look right now at the contra costa county fire protections offices in pleasant hill where we're waiting for more information and details on the suspect in a recent string of car fires. a task force did arrest the suspect saturday morning at a mcdonald's in benicia less than a mile from where a car fire had just been set. that suspect is tied to seven car fires week in contra costa county in what firefighters say

are at least several other arsons. so far, all we know is the suspect is 36 years old and lives in the county. he's heltd right now on $3 million bail. >> at least one firefighter is being treated for injuries after responding to a house fire in tian oc. a firefighter who responded to the home was shocked by an unprotected electrical circuit. the house has extensive damage but everyone was able to get out. crews say someone inside the home was stealing power and could face charges. happening today, authorities will be joining lawmakers in the east bay to try to introduce a plan to fights back against freeway shootings. the plan is to set up a network of cameras along interstate 80 and highway 4. it would identify law enforcement within seconds of a shooting. it comes as there were at least 30 shootings in contra costa county in the last e! and a half. >> firs are trying to figure out what caused this fire.

firefighters are still at the scene watching for hot spots. crews were able to dismantle an unstable crane that was damaged in the fire early saturday morning. crews worry the crane would fall onto nearby homes or power lines. this is the second time in les than a year that this building hassed. the cybersecurity attack that hit computers around the world last week could spread today as more hard to stop versions of it reappear. a software worm froze computers at the british health service holding data ransom. the attack has claimed 200,000 victims so far and counting. they're telling companies and agencies to rop update their operating systems immediately. >> cycling fans will flock to the south bay. stage two of the amgen tour of california wraps up today. stage one started yesterday with more than 200 professional cyclists taking part. today's stage gets under way in modesto a little after noon. rashers will go about 90 miles
