looking at a beautiful day ahead. good wednesday morning to you. we are looking for a beautiful day ahead. a live look outside san francisco right now. it is nice, mike inouye. pretty mild to start off, but on the cusp of major changes as we creep closer to our work week. today in the bay starts now. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> that was a really nice welcome. i'm sam brock. doesn't mike have a way with words? you can really sum it up in one word. >> nice. >> a little more verbose. kari really has a lock at the forecast. >> it is going to be nice today. and so comfortable. yesterday, a little on the cool side. we had clouds. we could not shake. and also the breezy winds. here's a look at what you're seeing as you step out the door in the peninsula, 53 degrees.

south bay, 54. 55 in the east bay, and 49 now in the north bay. we still have the clouds, but all of that gets out of here for today and highs reaching 74 in the tri-valley, 73 in the south bay. san francisco will be up to 63, and 76 for the north bay. today, probably the best day of the week before it really starts to heat up. i'll talk more about that in a few minutes, but mike's checking in on a check in san jose. >> we have a light traffic flow all around the bay, so we don't see the slowing right here for northbound 680, but the crash detail does talk about injuries to one person involved so we're watching that just north of the off ramp. no slowing shows up, but a crash reported in the center divide. as we move farther north, looking at the bay bridge. no surprises, that's the good news. your travel times are at speed throughout the maze and on the approach. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. we do have new developments from our nation's capitol.

multiple sources are telling nbc news president trump asked james comey in a meeting to drop the investigation into michael flynn. >> sources say the president told comey, quote, i hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting flynn go. michael flynn lost his job as national security adviser as he lied to mike pence about his ties to russia. comey built a paper trail documenting what he thought was president trump's efforts to derail the investigation. now, the republican chairman of the house oversight committee to demanding to see that memo if is exists and threatening to use his subpoena power. lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are reacting to the news. >> i doubt there's very much to it. if it were, comey would have reported it to someone earlier. >> i have never seen anything that so undermines the rule of law, the separation of powers that we rely on in this country. >> the white house denies the events in a statement to nbc

news calling them, quote, not an aceral portrayal of that conversation. >> a developing story here. parents at palo alto high school want to know why they were kept in the dark when a student convicted of a sex crime was allowed to stay on campus. kris sanchez with why parents were never told. good morning, kris. >> hi, there. as you and i know from our years of reporting, the law is very specific about what you can reveal about a minor accused of a serious crime, even a sexual assault. that is what the superintendent of the school district is plaining to parents about the lack of exposure and to the school board in a closed door meeting last night. this all stemmed from a 2015 off-campus sexual assault. the student in question, a junior, was adjudicated on a charge of forced oral copulation, which could be the equivalent of an adult conviction. the student was allowed to remain on campus and was then later accused of assaulting

another student, this time on campus. now parnlts are growing more outraged that the student is leaving palo alto high. >> all right, it looks like we lost -- >> although the attorney's office has declined to file anything against the student other than consensual underaged sexual agativity as a result of the conduct on campus, the student has elected not to complete the school year on campus. that's a statement from the student's attorney. here's the superintendent. >> we can't disclose anything about minors, regarding contact with the police, with the juvenile justice system. ee can't even tell you if they're in school today. >>alist night, following the meeting, there were changes made to the sexual assault policy here in the palo alto unified school district. i'll tell you about that and how the parents are reacting coming up at 5:30.

in palo alto, kris sanchez, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. >> we have continuing coverage to get to right now. we're inching closer to learning the punish mentd for sierra lamar's killer. the same jury that convicted antolin garcia torres of kidnapping and murdering the teen now must decide whether or not he should receive the death penalty. we're hearing from sierra's friends about the impact she had on their lives. >> ever since she went missing, i had nightmares of the things that could have been done to her and feeling like the helplessness she must have felt. >> during opening statements of the penalty phase, garcia torres' attorney told jurors he grew up in poverty, lived in shacks and had an alcoholic, violent father. he said a life sentence can still be fair and just. >> caltranis looking to raise fairs in parking.

good morning. i'm landon dowdy at cnbc world headquarters with your top business headlines. futures are lower ahead of the opening bell on possible rising concerns about more political turmoil in the u.s. that is about whether president trump will be hampered in his ability to push through a pro-business agenda which investors have been banking on since the election. a mixed day for the markets yesterday with the nasdaq closer higher. the nasdaq up 20 to 6169, a new record high. meanwhile, mcdonald's is making the big mac delivery available in more parts of the country. the fast food chain has been testing delivery with the ooub eats app in cities across florida since january. the service is now available at more than 1,000 restaurants in los angeles, chicago, phoenix, and columbus, ohio, and it's expected to expand in the coming

you're going to notice by friday. >> it's such a beautiful day. we start out with nice, cool temperatures. here's a look outside in fremont. it's 55 degrees. still a little breezy, too. once we had that overnight rain, some light showers that move through. as all of that has now since cleared out. we're looking at these high temperatures today up to 69 degrees in oakland. 63 degrees in san francisco. and some mid to upper 70s for the north bay. we'll be up to 73 degrees in san jose. when you look out the window, you're seeing things start to dry out and clear out and you're getting ready for the day, it will be one of those days where you need a jacket to start out. then some short sleeves later today once the temperatures reach into the mid 70s. looking live at at&t bark. they have the park lit up after last night's game and win. if you're heading out for the early afternoon game before they hit the road, we have temperatures in the upper 50s to start, but still very comfortable throughout the

afternoon with some low 60s and a nice breeze with that sunshine will make it feel nice. after today, we are going to start a warming trend. up to 66 degrees so still not bad tomorrow. some comfortable weather in san francisco. 70 on friday, and then the weekend, we will have low to mid 70s. where it starts to feel not so comfortable, inland areas, especially in the valleys with our highs today in the mid 70s. 84 degrees tomorrow and 89 degrees on friday. and then look at those 90s in time for the weekend. a lot of sunshine, quickly heating temperatures, and it will be dangerous heat. especially during the middle of the afternoon for the weekend. so if you're making plans now for the weekend, plan on doing something that will help keep you cool. we'll talk more about that. right now, mike's tracking a new crash on the peninsula. >> right. light traffic all around the bay as you would expect, but this will be an issue getting into san francisco, off the peninsula, and from the south bay. this is in south san francisco, north 101 at oyster point boulevard. i'm surprised there's no showing

levi's stadium. we're taking a live look. it will be lively tonight at that stadium. that means vta will be running a little later tonight to accommodate fans. roughly 50,000 fans are expected to crowd into levi's for that u2 concert. vta estimates that about 6,000 of them will use public transportation. that extra service will cost about $50,000. during the council meeting last night t was decided the management meeting that runs concerts will have to pay for that extra service. caltrain will also run a single northbound train after the concert, it will leave 75 minutes after the concert which is expected to get out around 11:00 or when the train is full. >> when you get home may be far after 11:00. >> straight to work. >> bono is back. that's super cool. the unofficial start of summer is back as well. that's expected to inspire huge numbers of travel. >> with memorial day holiday weekend coming, aaa says the number of travelers will hit a 12-year high.

the a's, that are playing too. >> in the last years in the country, more firefighters took their own lived than died in the line of duty. >> it puts a spotlight on the unique mental health challenges they face. liz wagner looks into what help, if any, is available to the people who protect us every day. >> good morning. we wanted to learn more about the emotional toll this job takes on first responders, so with the help of an industry group called the california professional firefighters, we designed a confidential survey. we heard back from more than 700 firefighters across the state, most here in the bay area. 77% say their stressful experiences caused unresolved emotional issues. as for how the stress impacts them, more than three quarters say they had unwanted memories. 14% have thoughts of suicide. but the results also show overwhelmingly stigma creates a barrier to seeking help. our survey found even when firefighters know about support

things are clearing up and we'll get some sunshine throughout the afternoon. the average high, 74 degrees, we'll get there this afternoon, and a look at that willow glen temperature trend. you see it jumping up there as we go to the next hour. 2:00, we'll be at 70 degrees. we'll take a look ahead to the day, and the warmup on the way in just a few minutes. mike's updating a crash near sfo. >> that's right. just north of sfo, in fact, i have an updated location that came in just as i was leaving my desk. northbound 101 for slowing. we now have instead of multiple lanes, specific, three left lanes are blocked. it's no longer oyster point boulevard as the sensors have been showing. just north of airport boulevard. that's the slower section where the left three lanes are blocked by a trailer or a vehicle. there's slowing just north of 380 as well. chp is on scene so they hope to have that cleared 86ly but we'll crack it closely. minor injuries reported there. no major problems as far as speeds go, but 580, we learned about a crash
