clear skies. look at where we're headed. 76 in oakland, peninsula up to 79 and palo alto, san francisco 70 today and the north bay will be up to 83 in san jose. we'll take a look at what's ahead as we go into the weekend but mike is checking in on a crash in fremont. >> i passed this crash coming into the station. it was in the center divide. over the last of hahalf hour th must have been a traffic break. southbound 880 heading toward this crash, the center divide now reported on the right shoulder so that must have been as a result of a traffic break and it just cleared up over the last five minutes so a better drive through fremont but i'll continue to track that situation. we're looking over here for speeds. getting over toward the bay bridge, no delays down the east shore freeway and i did hear about debris in the south bay. i'll check on highway 85 because there may be slowing as traffic

is heading south through the santa theresa area. transit isn't reporting any delays but, again, this is the last day, i believe, when they're doing maintenance on pe pier 41 so the midday and afternoon ferries from the alameda and oakland side are canceled. use the ferry building, guys, back to you. breaking news out of contra costa county where there's an armed standoff underway in a neighborhood near olin da and robin hood. >> bob redell is there looking at an active situation. what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning to you we see red lights and a white light over the home. the sheriff's department is talking over the p.a. they are repeating they are mentioning the name of a man and

woman specifically by name. they're telling the occupants to come out with their hands up. this is a standoff that's been going on for quite some time. according to the contra costa county sheriff's office this started as shots fired overnight. they don't know if there are victims inside we were there is an armored vehicle out front as well as a heavy law enforcement presence in front of this home but for the past three minutes repeatedly over the p.a. announcing will so and so who's the man and so and so who's the woman who are in this house please come out of your us who your hand up with no weapons. they are trying to resolve this peacefully in el sobrante.

bob redell, today in the bay. >> we could hear what you were describing. we have new information as well to as to that story that we understand that that could have started with a dispute between neighbors. the witness says the suspect fired multiple rounds at his neighbor then went into a home. residents are asked to shelter in place. we'll keep bob redell out there. it's a very active scene. in the meantime, more breaking news to tell you about. there's a fire burning right now, a commercial fire in east san jose. it's near white road and story road, a very popular thoroughfare there. it's a two-alarm fire so far. at bun point there was a falling roof tile while the building was burning. it's like a strip mall. so we're trying to determine what business is on fire there. the fire has been burning for about an hour and a half now. we'll bring you a live report from there as soon as they

arrive. more breaking news to get to, the sudden and unexpected death of one of grunge rock's signature singers, chris cornell. ♪ black hole sun, won't you come ♪ >> cornell was the lead singer of sound garden, there you're listening to "black hole sun." they shot to fame in the mid-'90s. he was later the front man for audio slave. he was on a solo tour at the time of his death and a representative says cornell died wednesday night in detroit. sources are telling our nbc affiliate that he took his own life but so far no official cause has been given. chris cornell was 52. san francisco police are investigating a stabbing at delores park. this happened early in the evening about 5:00. the victim was rushed to the hospital. we're waiting for word on their condition. sfpd is asking anyone who saw what happened to call them.

headlines. global markets continue to struggle amid the political turmoil in the u.s. asia and europe are in the red, although the losses aren't as big as those on wall street yesterday. the dow suffering its worst day since september and the nasdaq its worst since the uk's brexit vote last june. investors are concerned news out of the white house is casting doubt on president trump's ability to push his pro-business agenda through congress. you saw a flight so-called safe haven assets yesterday such as gold and u.s. government bonds. the dow dropping 372 to 20,606. the nasdaq down 158 to 6011. meanwhile, new government data shows household debt has topped the record level reached since 2008, a milestone in the economic recovery that shows americans are borrowing again. while there aren't quite the same risks present that toppled the financial system nine years ago, there are still some red flags. those include high levels of student loan debt and delinquent

it's 46 in the tri-valley, 52 in the peninsula. it's 54 degrees and 50 degrees now in san francisco. it's going to be in some spots about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday afternoon. up to 79 degrees in a peninsula, tri-valley 83 degrees, also 83 in the north bay. so as you're looking out the window getting ready for the day, we bring it into the closet to show you a few tips. maybe a light jacket this morning and some short sleeves for when temperatures warm up later today. if it's a casual day shorts and sandals to stay nice and cool can especially this afternoon once again talking about 80s inland. maybe heading to santa cruz as you drive over the summit. temperatures will be cool in the low 50s and then reaching into the low 70s by early afternoon and temperatures continue to climb. we are looking at some very hot

weather over the next couple of days and sunday will be the hottest day inland reaching 95 degrees, napa to 93. make sure the air conditioner is tuned up. you'll be using it this weekend. in san jose up to 90 degrees in san francisco. not too bad, 74. so that's what we are looking at. also those temperatures in the mid-70s for sunday and early next week we'll see the cooldown happening in san francisco. it will be more gradual for the inland area so we will have at least three days with highs in the 90s starting on saturday continuing into sunday and monday and then it starts to come down into the mid-80s which will still be well above average into next wednesday. as we head over to mike, a couple of notes for south bay commuters. >> that's right, the note for everyone is traffic is light and smooth but we're looking to the south bay, the first issue is there's just some debris reported. northbound 85 as you head up past the santa theresa exit somewhere between there and highway 87 we have some debris

across all lanes. i don't know where the debris came from because there were no crashes over the last 45 minutes. as we zoom up, this is the area we're following this commercial fire. there's a mini mall there and that's where we believe the fire is located. this is not affecting capital expressway or alum rock. right now the south bay looks great. we'll take you to our waze system. no reason to make dramatic choices this morning so if you're getting over from vallejo, the easy choice is the east shore system. other routes of 15 minutes more, don't need those as alternates just yet. check your phone, you might need an alternate later on. make sure you're a member of our team, the only team that chooses the one in your profile where you go to teams and select nbc bay area wazers. we've been shouting out thanks

to friends throughout the mornings for the past couple weeks as they've been sending us information. nbc bay area wazers, folks, back to you. you mentioned the fire we've been watching at story and white road, live pictures from the scene where firefighters are trying to attack it from all angles. you can see the shower coming from above as well. this is story and white roads, it's a commercial strip mall area but this looks like the building in front of everything. i'm told it's an abandoned building. i believe there was an o'riley's auto parts that used to be there. there's an el pollo loco on the corner. it's a complex where there's a -- oh, mi pueblo is in that come flex as we-- complex as we. we have a crew at the scene, kris sanchez gathering information from investigators. we'll bring you more as soon as we get it as well. 4:49 right now. there is a break coming for the broken main spillway at the oroville dam. the sacramento bee reporting the

water will stop floating from the spillway tomorrow. officials are hoping this will be the last time the spillway will be used until the next rainy season. a giant crater, of course, opening up on the ramp during heavy rains earlier this year. the goal is to have that filled up by november. we are getting a first look at how new white house policies are affecting immigration enforcement around the nation. i.c.e. reports immigration arrests were up during president trump's first 100 days in office. i.c.e. reported more than 41,000 arrests. over the same time a year ago it was 30,000. president trump is scheduled to meet with juan manuel santos. this is previous video of him meeting with president obama. today the two leaders are expected to talk about drug trafficking and organized crime. coming up on today in the bay, we investigate. >> are you still making parts?

==laura/2shot== welcome back. 4:53 as we take a live look at the mountains in the background in san jose. still dark out there as it's not even 5:00 on your thursday morning but there will not just be light but heat. kari hall will tell us about that in a few minutes. they're not approved by the faa and they can hurt. >> nbc bay area found that bogus parts are finding their way on commercial jetliners more often than you might think. here's stephen stock with more. >> reporter: we dug through a decade worth of federal records and found 172 cases where the faa reported unapproved or bogus parts had been found on the airplanes. unapproved parts haven't been tested or approved by the faa to be used during the stresses of flight. we found some of those cases involved thousands of airplanes, including commercial airlines for domestic u.s. carriers.

protesters have been very vocal during the meetings in san francisco. this was a look at the scene yesterday. protest in spanish and english briefly shut down that meeting. uc president janet napolitano says the auditor's report is inaccurate but she says she's implementing all 33 of the auditor's recommendations for improving transparency. they have the money, now it's time to spend it. san francisco's muni is reportedly ready to shift millions of dollars in bond money to new projects that are ready to get under way. the examiner reported its supervisors are putting pressure on the agency to spend the $500 million that muni received in a 2014 voter-approved measure because some of muni's planned bus and train projects have taken more time to get the green light, muni is going to be redirecting about $25 million to improve some of its facilities, too. coming up, the bay area warmup is here. another five to ten degrees
