==kris// vo== breaking news overnight--- a tense situation in san francisco. a home invasion in the )bayview breaking news overnight. a tense situation in san francisco, and few answers. a home invasion in the bay view district leads to a police shooting and the suspects are still on the loose. we're live on the scene with the latest for you this morning. thanks for joining us. i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. we're are rr jumping right into it. we have breaking news from cupertino. some sort of police activity there. we'll have an update in a moment. >> we also want to check on the forecast. we know that probably a little slow on monday morning, but we know it's getting hot already. >> it's going to be hot again today and it's all about where you are. we have 50s along the coast and 90s inland. we have this wide range in temperatures.

that will be with us again today. we start out at 60 degrees in the tri-valley. not a bad start. nice and comfortable. 49 degrees in the north bay. as we head into the rest of the afternoon, going to see the temperatures quickly warming up, up to 88 in the south bay. 85 in the peninsula, and the rivalley up to 95 degrees although it will be 75 today in san francisco. so we'll talk about all of the temperatures to expect today. mike has a slow roller reported on the bay bridge. >> they call it a slow roller because it's usually a disabled vehicle. slowly rolling, but still moving in lanes getting across the bay bridge. i wanted to show it to you, but i can barely see the top of the tower or the tunnel at treasure island and yerba buena island because of the fog. the issue right now might be visibility. the roller and moving and the westbound traffic is okay into san francisco. the rest of the bay looks good. i'm tracking a crash over here getting down to the peninsula. we'll talk about that coming up. >> breaking news we're tracking

overnight, san francisco home invasion that turned into a police shooting. in the last couple minutes is when the police called off the search for suspects. >> in the last 15 minutes or so. pete suratos was there at the scene with the officers. what do we know about this, pete? >> good morning to you. we just got that media briefing from sfpd and they tell us the search for the suspect has been called off on the ground here, which means that shelter for residents has been lifted. we've shown you the video from the scene earlier. here's the new information we're getting from sfpd. they're saying this took place around 11:00 p.m. on the 2100 block of quesada. as the sfpd taped off the area and several suspects exited the home when they arrived. one suspect shoots at police, the officer returns fire but there are no injuries to report at this time. as the suspects tried to get

away, one person was detained. we're told the occupants are being interviewed as we speak. this looks to be targeted. as i mentioned at the top of the report, they have called off the search, at least here on the ground. they're still looking for the suspects. if you have information to help with the case, contact sfpd. pete suratos for today in the bay. >> thank you very much, pete. >> happening right now, international news concerning our president. donald trump touching down in jerusalem. you're looking right now at live pictures from his mideast trip. air force one landed in israel just a few hours ago and he addressed an international audience with the israeli president. minutes ago. of course, a very important leg of his trip. the president is holding talks with israeli and palestinian leaders during the course of a two-day stop there. president trump has called an israeli/palestinian peace agreement, quote, the ultimate deal. this is the president's second stop on a nine-day international trip. he was in riyadh, saudi arabia, over the weekend, asking middle east leaders there to drive out

terrorists within their borders. there was a noted change in the president's tone as he was delivering the speech. the president spoke about the address shortly after landing in tel aviv. >> and that visit, we reached historic agreements to pursue greater and greater cooperation in the fight against terrorism and its evil ideology. >> nbc news has reporters traveling with the president every step of the way. we'll have a live report from israel at 5:00. >> and now to a tragic story in the south bay. a woman and three children are recovering from stab wounds this morning after they were violently attacked. it happened saturday night at a morgan hill apartment complex. a neighbor called 911 to report a violent argument there. police say when officers arrived, the suspect eduardo ramirez was standing in the parking lot. he was then stabbing himself in the neck and shoulders with a

pocket knife. inside, his wife and three children, including a baby, were found suffering from those knife wounds. ramirez was arrested after police used a taser to detain him. everyone is expected to survive. 4:35 right now. and continuing coverage. the defense is now up. they'll call their first witness in the sentencing phase of the sierra lamar murder case today. this following last wyche's emotional testimony from the missing 15-year-old's parents. the defense is going to try to convince the jury that antolin garcia torres who has been kikted of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar, does not deserve the death penalty. it's moving forward despite evidence that a detective gave false evidence in another case. there is a hearing to discuss those developments on wednesday. >> developing news this morning. a san jose state football player is in the hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed a few blocks from campus. chad miller is a junior and

safety at san jose state. he was stabbed when he was out with friends. it happened when a group of people got into a brawl on post street. we talked with other students who said recent off campus violence is leaving them uneasy. >> a shooting by one of the bars on second street a month and a half ago. it's not surprising at all. >> the school put out a statement yesterday saying they expect miller to recover and return to school. police are now looking at surveillance video from nearby businesses. >> coming up, charging up for free. that was considered one of the best perks for people who own a tesla until the company announced it was doing away with the policy. now a reversal. how new tesla buyers can still enjoy the free boost. >> looking live at san francisco where the fog is hanging around lucky san francisco this morning. a little cooler there. already warming up in the south bay. we'll talk about the forecast where you live coming up. gdp. on friday, the dow rose 144 points. the nasdaq was up 28 to 6083. cnbc has confirmed reports ford is firing their ceo mark field and an announcement is expected this morning. he'll be replaced by the head of the company's autonomous driving unit. it comes as bill ford is reportedly unhappy with the automaker's performance. ford's stock is down some 40% since fields took over in 2014. at the peak of the u.s. auto industry's recovery. and speaking of cars, for years, tesla offered owners a nice perk. they could charge their cars for free at any of its super charger stations. but in january, the company said it was phasing that program out. however, tesla says new users can still take advantage if they get another driver to give them a referral code. they can get free unlimited charging up to five friends.

they can still get free charging if they decide to own another tesla. get another tesla or get another friend. >> you have to wait forever. >> scrape together $85,000 on top of that. >> a south bay flood control project is reportedly now in danger of being stopped because of unforeseen costs. a ballooning budget now threatens the flood protection project for two miles of the upper creek south of milpitas. work on that $35 million project got under way in october, but now it's in limbo because of the cost tied to an added wetland restoration requirement. the district is now appealing that new requirement and threatening to sue. >> we just saw this from our cameras a second ago. the clouds aric bain san francisco and along the coast. great for those folks. but inland, very different story. again, kari hall joining us now. >> going to be nice and cool along the coast, but still very hot inland. let's take a live look outside

welcome back. it's 4:44 right now on your monday morning, and really a warning now that the rivers and waterways are running full. we cannot say this enough. this can be such a dangerous situation. that warning coming as a fairfield father remains missing after a boating accident near the pittsburg marina on saturday night. you see crews searching for him. he was out fishing when his son when the boy fell into the water. theed da, of course, going in after his 9-year-old son. he was able to get him out safely, but the father himself was not able to get back on the boat, and again, he remains missing this morning. that is just another heartbreaking reminder that ahead of the memorial day weekend, the u.s. coast guard trying to get the word out about boating safety. this week marks national safe boating week and the coast guard wants to remind folks to wear their life jackets at all time, make sure you have a working radio onboard your boat, and monitor conditions before you head out. follow float plan with family or friends just in case you

encounter dangerous circumstances. >> make sure everybody knows where you are. we know those waterways are kind of swift in some places because of the snow melt. >> yeah, and that's especially true in the sierra. we were talking about the truckee river. a lot of flood warnings in effect for parts of the sierra and the rivers flowing out of the areas where we do have massive snow melt under way. you can tell why. it's been so warm in the bay area, and it's also very warm just off to the east of here as well. now, as we take a look at the fog along the coastline, this has made a dramatic change in our temperatures. if you were out and about yesterday and you saw the fog rolling in, it was so cool along the coast, and visibility remains low this morning coming out of the north bay across the golden gate bridge. it's 51 degrees now in san francisco. 55 in palo alto. and it's 58 degrees in san jose, while livermore starts out the morning at 60 degrees. and this is where we're headed again today, into the upper 80s, lower 90s. morgan hill at 92 for the high

today. 94 in antioch, livermore at 95, and 82 degrees in hayward. you can see the change in temperatures, half moon bay in the lower 60s. 78 degrees in belmont. san francisco up to 75 in the mission district, but 69 in the outer sunset, and 86 degrees today in santa rosa. napa today up to 90 degrees. as you take a look outside the window in san jose this morning, all clear. it will be another day for the short sleeves, shorts, and also sunglasses. and we'll start to be able to put on more layers as the week goes on. let's go throughout the day in oakland today as the temperatures start out in the lower 60s. lunchtime temperature at 75. and at 4:00, we'll be at 80 degree. also a lot of pollen in the air. mostly some tree pollen. grass pollen coming down just a bit, but there's still a lot of people sneezing out there. and our temperatures will be in the mid 70s in san francisco today. low 60s for the rest of the week. so we are in for a major

cooldown. but it takes a little while longer for the inland areas, still in the 90s for today and tomorrow. as we head to mike, you're now monitoring a crash in los altos hills? >> i am, and it sounds like everything is under control and should be clearing soon. still, over here, south 280, you see that bit of slowing. not a lot of slowing around the bay. that's the good news. southbound to del monte, they may have another tow truck arriving, but it sounds like every is off to the shoulder. again, not a major concern. we'll take you to the waze system. no backup at the bay bridge toll plaza and through the east bay, an easy drive. waze is giving you options. 40 minutes from concord to the city. that's the purple route. a couple other options, even a really interesting route through walnut creek and berkeley and across the richmond san rafael bridge, but that takes a half hour longer. you make your choice and make your choice to join us on your phone. go to your app before you hit the roadway or tell your friends at work and do it together. you hit your profile and your

name and you pick nbc bay area wazers. not a lot of activity locally. one crash. the wazer reports to our system. and we share it. back to you. >> thank you very much. today, people in the bay area get a chance to check out how california plans to deal with climate change. the california natural resources agency released a draft of the new plan that builds upon the original plan which was adapted back in 2009. the new plan focuses on water, agriculture and public health. today is the only bay area public meeting, if you want to be there, it's at 1:30 this afternoon at the state of california building on golden gate avenue. >> 4:49 right now. california democratic convention is a sign it's not just the republican party in major upheaval. the convention wrapping up a three-day chaotic series of events in sacramento yesterday. this meeting did not have a unified front. party members demonstrated their were split on selecting a new

chair person. it was bitterly fought and protested by supporters for the other candidate. scott wiener talked about trying to keep a global perspective. >> the president continues to push his america first isolationist perspective, which is dangerous. america is strongest when we are active in the world. not getting into wars everywhere, but working so closely with other countries to create peace, to grow our global economy. >> back to the candidates now. bowman is a southern californiaen. while kimberly ellis worked for the city of richmond. she was supported by a lot of bernie sanders supporters who talked about feeling like they had when sanders lost his bid for the presidential election. >> happening today, jury selection in the bill cosby sexual assault trial begins. it will happen in a courtroom 300 miles away from where the actual trial will happen.

cosby's lawyers demanded jury selection be moved to find jurors who had not been influenced by the publicity of the trial. turns out american politics these days, pretty good for nbc's "saturday night live." while you might be tired of hearing about this in the news, but apparently not in satire. they had their highest ratings in six years. the rock, dwayne johnson, hosting the season finale on saturday, which happens to be their highest rated finale since 2011. in case you missed it, "snl" go a huge boost this season from alec baldwin who appeared several times as president trump. >> north korea is showing off military might. coming up, the breakthrough the communist country has made with its missiles. >> first, happening now, no word on if an orange county beach will be opened today. lifeguards cleared the waters there after 25 sharks were

korea says it's ready to deploy and start mass producing a new medium range missile capable of reaching japan. this comes after a test launch reportedly confirmed the missile's combat readiness. it reportedly flew about 310 miles and reached a height of 350 miles yesterday, before then plunging into the pacific ocean. >> after fighting in the middle east, a navy veteran returned home to face the battle of his life, and it was against his own government. >> senior investigative reporter stephen stock has been following this case from the beginning. >> good morning. joaquin tells us that the u.s. navy promised him citizenship, and then deployed him to the middle east. he admits that when he left the military and came back from the war zone, he broke u.s. law. after serving his sentence, he landed in u.s. immigration court and the u.s. government says it has no record of his citizenship application and insists on deporting him. >> you assume this country is

a live look outside at san francisco. good morning on your monday. let's take a live look outside right now. san francisco and the bay bridge and what do you know. the clouds are back. welcome. wrapping up the bay bridge with a nice big hug there. good morning and thank you for joining us on this monday. i'm sam brock. >> i'm kris sanchez. i'm in for laura garcia-cannon today. and tell you, its are rr nice to be indoors because it's warm already out there. >> that's especially inland. that's true this morning as you step out the door. then later on today, it is going to be another scorcher for the south bay, tri-valley, and parts of the north bay. let's get a look at the seven-day forecast. for san francisco, not bad at all. the reason why, you just saw it. we see the fog starting out this morning and it cools down as we go through the rest of the week. inland areas, it is still going to be very hot. 93 today. 90 tomorrow, and then we start to catch a little bit of a break. we'll talk about the temperature trend. a loser look at the temperatures
