at the beautiful bay bridge. a nice start to thursday morning, cooler temperatures as well. thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i think friday eve sounds bett better. it gets you in the weekend mind-set. >> exactly. a lot of supreme an extended weekend. >> i am, too. it was so hot to start out this week and we're coming down from the 90s that we had inland. it's hard to believe but now we are talking about low 70s for the highs today and this is what it feels like as you step out the door right now. mid to upper 50s to start out this friday eve. it will be up to 72 degrees in san jose and palo alto. napa 71 degrees and 61 degrees in san francisco with some patchy clouds, fog and gusty winds. we'll talk more about that and look ahead to that holiday weekend but mike starts us off in the tri-valley. >> >> the rest of the bay is boring. you want boring for the traffic

report. north bay, peninsula, south bay, we get you towards 680 and the dublin interchange. southbound 680 at the 580 connector, reports of a crash between a car and a deer. lanes are clear of that car, the deer didn't make out so well and they're making sure they get everything opened smoothly. the connector is open. and over here these flashing lights appear to have picked up. that was the road work going on, the sign work above the roadway. both directions should be clear now, 680 just about andrade, sheridan, we'll track it. back to you. we have a developing story right now. fears over botulism are growing after a second death in northern california. this time out of napa county. it's not related to the outbreak from that contaminated nacho cheese. >> today in the bay's pete suratos has more for us. are health officials say anything about it? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and sam. well, for starters, health

officials are saying botulism is gotten when foods are inappropriately stored or preserved. they're saying this disease is very rare which makes these two most recent cases very unusual. in the latest case involviing te man in antioch, he caught it from eating contaminated nacho cheese at a gas station in walnut grove. the health official we talked to said it's important to wash fruits and vegetables and store food accordingly. the symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting and more serious issues. >> the typical symptoms we do see are a progression from paralysis of the muscles in the face down to the chest so, blurry vision, double vision, droopy eyelids and struggling to speak, having trouble swallowing, having trouble holding your head and neck up and trouble breathing. >> reporter: health officials say only 2% of the botulism

cases are deadly and it's unknown what caused this latest case in napa county. back to you in the studio. >> awfully frightening there. pete, thank you very much. new this morning, a woman says she was sexually battered while she was riding a bart train on the east bay somewhere between the richmond and north berkeley stations. bart is reporting the suspect ran out of the train at the north berkeley station and hasn't been found yet. the queen of england is in manchester to mourn with the city. the royal family tweeting out these pictures an hour ago. the queen meeting with one of the injured victims. she has called the attack "an act of barbarity." in the meantime, there are reports british authorities have stopped sharing information about the suicide bombing with the u.s. that after information was leaked to the american media. specifically photos showing remnants of a bomb published by the "new york times." about an hour ago, manchester police chief ian hopkins said

the leaks are hampering the investigation and making thing mrs. difficult for the victims' families. >> last night it was shared with the families that intelligence had been leaked and published in the "new york times." it's absolutely understandable the distress that this caused to those families. >> british prime minister. theresa may says she plans to speak with president trump about the leaks today during the nato summit that they are both attending. happening right now, video from brussels. this is the fourth stop in president trump's overseas trip and he may be facing a less forgiving crowd this time around. he met with belgium's prime minister and he offered a pledge to work together on terrorism but you might remember that president trump called brussels "a hell hole" on the campaign trail in reference to the muslim immigrant population there. the belgian have yet to forgive him for saying that, the president is scheduled to attend a nato summit later today.

we'll keep you upto date on the developments there. back at home, president trump appears to be facing a tough crowd in washington when it comes to reaction to his most recent budget proposals. that includes the math used to the republican health care bill tied to the budget. the cbo says money saved from enacting the gop's american health care act would cause 23 million americans to lose their health insurance. this is this latest scoring on the health bill. even republicans are wary of the budget which includes what analysts are calling a double account, amounting to a $2 trillion error. >> that math can't be sustained? >> you're going to get me to say that i want to cut programs and let people die. >> there are also concerns about deep cuts to medicaid. but the white house insists that medicaid is only being slowed

down not cut. at the same time, most experts agree this budget has virtually no chance of passing congress. it's 5:05. developing this morning, investigators suspect foul play in the case of a san francisco uber driver missing since last week. 48-year-old piseth chhay was last seen may 14. according to san francisco police, his last-known contact was with a long time friend who they now call a person of interest. bob tang was supposed to meet with investigators this week. police told us they think he may be on the run. >> he was scheduled to be interviewed yesterday in the morning by our missing persons investigators and we subsequently learned that he may have left the country and flown to cambodia on monday night. police are now working with international authorities to track down tang whose family reported him missing yesterday. cadaver dogs were brought in to search three properties linked to tang. a real-life horror story, this frightening sight on the

side of the highway. how would you like to drive by and see that. a clown holding a machete covered in fake blood. that man was seen in full clown makeup on the shoulder of highway 101 near the san juan road exit yesterday about 3:00 in the afternoon. when deputies arrived they had their guns drawn, they confronted the clown, his name, larry tovey of gilroy. deputies questioned him and determined he didn't commit a crime and let him go. investigators say he wasn't trying to hurt anybody, he just had "a sick sense of humor." we go back to stories about bart which is bringing in outside help now trying to figure out why two train car derailments at the daly city bart station happened last weekend. east bay times reporting the transit agency is hiring a colorado consulting firm to look at the situation, the derailment happened saturday, thankfully nobody was hurt. 5:07 on this thursday morning. take a look at the sunrise this

morning, getting more light in the sky earlier in the day and we are seeing those clouds rolling over the hills as well so we will have clouds starting out today if you're going out hiking in the south bay or just enjoying time at the park here's a look at how the temperatures will be shaping up throughout the morning and afternoon. 53 degrees to start and then we'll get clearing and cool temperatures but by 2:00 we're up to 70 degrees with breezy wind. it will be breezy and cooler into the weekend and we'll look at that forecast. that's coming up in three minutes but mike says there's no major issues on the road. >> we don't have any major closures for lanes and the speed sensors look great. we're showing the south bay in towards san francisco and also the north bay coming down for 101. a smooth flow of traffic. wind advisory from chp from the antioch bridge way back over here, but not a major issue for the riders across. we're also looking at bart. for a short period of time minor delay reported for some

mi it's 5:12 with a mostly clear sunrise looking live over the south bay. the temperature twrerend for wiw glen will be cool to start. 60s throughout the morning and then breezy winds. reaching for a little while into the low 70s. as we go through the week, we will see more cool weather like this and a little bit of a warmup so we'll talk about that temperature trend coming up in five minutes. at the top of your screen we see a little slowing just building out of the altamont pass for westbound 580. that construction has cleared and so has the delay for sunol. we'll track the rest of your

commute. >> thanks so much, kari and mike. authorities in the east bay say a cross-dressing female bank robber is also a former police officer. police in danville yesterday arrested jennifer ray mcclary dressed as a man. she has a painted beard on her face. her linked in profile indicates she worked for the lapd and another southern california police department until 2010. danville police say she was eventually fired. >> it's kind of sad that somebody would fall to that level in life and become that desperate. she obviously had some issues she was dealing with. danville police say mccleary handed tellers a note demanding cash and never showed a weapon. there are change coming to tsa lines across the country -- just what you wanted to hear -- which means you have to give yourself more time when you go to the airport. look at this map. the tsa says it's testing new screening procedures for

carry-on bags at these ten airports. you're already required to remove your laptops but now there will be a new rule requiring you to take out any device larger than a cell phone -- that would include your tablets and ipads. tsa says carry-on luggage can get crammed and it makes it harder for workers to look for signs of an explosive. cyber security has become more crucial than ever and the fbi is holding a discussion on how you can protect yourself. experts will show how to protect your business and home against cyber security attacks. that's happening at 555 california street in san francisco this afternoon. bay area home prices last month hit any record highs. the research firm core logic crunched those numbers and found the median price for previously owned home in the nine counties rose to a record $800,000 in april. mercury news reports that exceeds the previous record of $752,000 in june of last year. analysts say the bay area's inventory of homes continues to fall far short of demand.

so staying constant here but more of a range inland so temperatures heading out the door in livermore at 54 degrees, 55 in fairfield and oakland starts out at 57 degrees. i want to show you the high temperatures, up to 73 degrees in east san jose and for the east bay 68 in oakland while antioch while at 76. 58 half moon bay and 26 in daly city. outer sunset 59 degrees and the embarcadero at 60. mill valley 65. you can see these temperatures coming way down from the way we started this week so if you're heading to wine country in sonoma. it will be cool to start, only 56 degrees at 8:00, then at noontime with the sunshine 64 and unto 68 degrees at 4:00 this afternoon. and i know you're making plans for the weekend, maybe heading to carnivale on saturday in san francisco, it will be in the mid-50s during the morning, still cloudy, but once that sun

comes out it will be warmer, reaching into the low 60s and still very comfortable. we will only see low 60s over the next several days but ourp warmest day will be on memorial day, up to 65 degrees there. and for the inland areas up to 83 on monday. 84 degrees on tuesday but it looks very nice heading into the weekend with more temperatures that are just slightly above normal for this time of year, mike says there is a light commute expected today. >> at least early in the day, you're talking about the three day weekend for a lot of businesses, we know that sometimes creeps over so that's why we're seeing a lighter flow of traffic. we'll zoom into the south bay where you see southbound 280 showing a slightly slower read, about 60 miles per hour. there may be road crews but i'll track this closely. your commute direction northbound moves just fine. at palo alto, the live look shows you no problems the.

will cooling continue, kari? it's going to be so nice. makes it easier to get up and out the door, it's going to start out cloudy but will be sunny through the day, it's 55 degrees in the peninsula, 53 in san francisco in the north bay looking live from belvedere, patchy fog and it's 51 degrees. as we go into today, it's going to be a little cooler than yesterday, still breezy but we'll get sunshine, low 70s for the south bay and peninsula but then warmer towards the tri-valley, up to 76 degrees. north bay will see a high of 68 and san francisco looking at a high of 61. as we head over to mike, how it is looking on the roadways? >> we'll look at that in just a second and show you the speed sensors are looking -- well, this pre-holiday thursday, a smooth easy drive.

no major delays, that little slowing we saw at the 280 sticks around but no incidents reported for chp. we'll show you travel times toward the bay bridge, an easy drive down the east shore freeway at the top of your screen, just 15 minutes from highway 4 to the bay bridge toll plaza which has the meetinger lights on. the backup has just formed over the last few minutes, coming through the maze, no major issues. >> thank you very much, kari and mike. happening today, it's in the hands of the jury. deliberations begin this morning in the trial of three santa clara county jail guards accused of beating an inmate to death. >> today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us live to tell us what's coming up next in this high-profile case. kris? >> reporter: all along, the is santa clara district attorney's office says this is not only about the death of an inmate but about the oops. jereh lubrin and rafael rodriguez as well as matthew ferris, the question is whether they beat a mentally ill inmate to death. that's what the jury will

deliberate on today. the three could get a life sentence if the jury finds they did. michael tyree was found dead in his cell in august of 2015. the coroner said he was beaten so badly his spleen was nearly ruptured in two. the three are also charged with assault under the color of authority of juan via, a second mentally ill inmate on that same night. the defense claims tyree died from injuries he inflected upon himself but during the trial, former inmates testified they saw all three deputies in tyree's cell and heard tyree's cries for help as well. the defense contends the testimony of the inmates is not to be trusted. now, no cameras are allowed in the courtroom for this part of the trial, in fact, any part of this trial but we will have a reporter inside and when the jury reaches the verdict we'll have one hour to get in place to make sure we can bring you the coverage live. in san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay.

developing this morning. an east bay community coming together to help support the family of a nine-year-old boy shot in the stomach on his birthday. a bullet struck isai catalan sunday as they walked their puppy on fruitvale avenue. the family was walking to a nearby store following his birthday celebration. police are trying to determine why the shots were fired. >> investigators at this point believe the nine-year-old boy was not the intended target of that shooting. >> this is one of those moments where it's super important that we as a team help each other out. >> from his hospital bed, the boy sent out a message saying he's thankful for the support and god bless. the boy's soccer team, oakland fc leopards, also helping out. they brought money and signed a poster and ball for their teammate. >> nice to see them try to lift his spirits. 5:33. here is the reality for american students, what they're living in right now. today sequoia high school in redwood city getting a tough

but 45 rooms, some have never been open to the public until now. there's a new tour opening up today. we entered the north tour room, the first time anyone has ever been in here. even employees were never allowed in here. >> that's absolutely true. >> why weren't employees allowed in here? >> it was too dangerous. there's holes all over the place where chimneys have been removed, staircases were never built. you want to explore more? >> sure. and sara winchester, a lot of rooms she didn't complete. what makes this room different or unique compared to other rooms that have been open to the public? >> this room, for example, is very spacious which is not really the case in this house. but another thing i find interesting is that this appeared in pictures well before 1906 yet it was never remotely near being completed? >> you said your job as a historian is also like being an archaeologist. do you know why this room wasn't finished? look at the beautiful stained glass, you would think that would be the last things. she doesn't even have the

plaster or whatever in. >> exactly. and when it comes time to plaster the walls they would have removed the windows, put them into storage. i have no idea. this would have been a beautiful room with a fireplace, a beautiful view of the gardens. it would have been a very special room. >> if we were to go upstairs, the attic is finally open to the public. in the attic you have wood pieces, what are the singh zmans. >> those are the remnants of the seven-story tower that used to dominate this entire landscape. most of the pieces remain. sara was very good at repurposing, she never threw things away and they sat h in storage for well over a century waiting for projects that never happened. >> explore more. coming up within the next hour, we'll take you to another room, i'm not sure if it's seen but it's called the witch's hat known for an unusual acoustic. >> sounds inviting. >> an eerie look at the inner workings. anyone else dizzy after looking at that tour? thanks very much, bob.

[ laughter ] no, i'm still here. cool, nice gab rel. it's the pre-holiday thursday, we see that into the memorial day holiday every year, been doing this for over a decade, we're looking at a nice easy drive out of the amount month. there may be a little wind, gusty winds at time but no major issues. light traffic for hayward. for mass transit we had earlier delays reported, an equipment issue out of daly city that was very early and very quickly that cleared up so no more delays for these transit systems. remember, monday is a holiday so check your agency's web site. >> a lot of people traveling? >> a lot of people will be hitting the road. we know where they're going aside from the winchester mystery house which looks super cool. up north, all kinds of activity.

>> we have bottlerock, so many events going on around the bay area. i've been trying to squeeze them in. looking at saturday's forecast, 63 degrees will be your temperature, that's the high temperature for the coast. the bay will be at 68 degrees and 74 for the inland valleys and then for sunday the coast will be in the mid-60s, 71 degrees for the bay and a little warmer for the inland areas, up to 77 degrees but all of this very comfortable weather and for the coast you may need long sleeves. now the mushroom mardi gras happening in morgan hill this weekend and we start out with temperatures at 10:00 at 58 degrees. so we'll be cool to start but temperatures warming up through the day so bring the sunscreen, the bottles of water and enjoy the time out there. i've been here before, i love this event. and for santa cruz it's going to be cool. needing the jacket and long sleeves all day if you'll be a spectato spectator, watching the surfers from 6:30 in the morning it will

mid-70s will be cooler than we've had recently. as we go into the next several days, we'll keep this weather and talk about what's happening this weekend that's coming up in about five minutes. just starting to see these travel times eke up a little bit out of the castro valley y, that's 238 and 880. a smooth drive around the area. >> thank you very much, kari and mike. happening today, bart is continuing its discussion on how to handle the huge problem with fare jumpers. those problems involve more than just the loss of millions of dollars in revenue every year. in april, police say a large group of young people jumped bart's turnstiles and attack riders on a train in oakland. a new law prevents bart from cracking down on juvenile fare jumpers. bart is trying to get the law rewritten. the people of montana heading to the polls to select the state's only house representative but this morning, the gianforte, is facing misdemeanor assault charges for allegedly

to get it passed and plan future tax cuts because it reduces the deficit by $119 billion. that means the senate needs a simple majority to pass the bill so in that sense deficit reduction number big win for the authors. we don't expect the senate to adopt the house bill without changes. president trump was in brussels earlier this morning meeting with the eu and nato. here he is with the new french president. trump, you'll recall, called nato obsolete and he hasn't been kind to brussels. he called the city a hell hole. from brussels he goes to sicily to meet with american troops and then back home. i got several questions about melania trump as the trumps visited the vatican. there she is on the left. she wore a head covering in the presence of the pope but did not wear a head covering in saudi arabia and several of you asked why. well, the best answer we could find is the vatican asked her to and the king of saudi arabia did
