the temperature trend for los gatos will be in the low 60s, 73 by 3:00 today. i'll show you what to expect as we head into the long holiday weekend in seven minutes. mike, you're saying the commute is building? >> slowly. it's building nonetheless and we look at our speed sensors. the peninsula doesn't see any problems. pleasanton towards sunol, we have a little snowing out of the altamont pass. a little slowing there and the bay bridge toll plaza. of course that's the slowest spot for the bay because you have the metering lights on. we have the backup but you can watch traffic slowing through the fast track lanes so that's pretty good. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 6:01 right now. developing this morning we're learning about a second botulism death in the bay area. >> this latest case happened in napa county and isn't related to the botulism outbreak caused by

nacho cheese in sacramento county. pete suratos is joining us live with the symptoms you should be aware of. this is pretty frightening, pete. good morning. >> reporter: very frightening indeed, good morning, sam and laura. in that latest case in napa county, the information is very limited. in fact, we don't know what caused the person to catch botulism but in that case earlier this week with that man in antioch we know it was from eating contaminated nacho cheese at a gas station in the sacramento suburb of walnut grove. as far as what botulism is, we know it's when foods are not preserved or stored correctly. speaking to a public health official they're saying you want to wash your fruits and vegetables and store foods accordingly to what's on the back of the labels so read that carefully. as far as the symptoms of botulism, it includes vomiting and diarrhea and even more serious issues. >> the typical symptom wes see are a progression from paralysis of the muscles in the face down

to the chest so blurry vision, double vision, droopy eyelids and then struggling to speak, having trouble swallowing, having trouble holding your head and neck up and trouble breathi breathing. >> reporter: health care officials said botulism is very rare which makes these cases unusual but it's treatable and when it comes to botulism, only about 5% of cases are deadly. back to you in the studio. >> pete, thank you very much. right now the queen of england is in manchester today to mourn with the city. the royal family tweeting out these pictures about two hours ago. the queen meeting with one of the injured victims. she's called this attack "an act of barbarity." . in the meantime, let's get you caught up. there are reports that british authorities have stopped sharing information about the suicide bombing with the united states after information that was leaked to american media. specifically, photos showing remnants of the bomb published by the "new york times."

about two hours ago, manchester police chief ian hopkins said the leaks are hampering their investigation and making things more difficult for the victims' families. >> last night we shared with those families the fact that intelligence had been leaked and published in the "new york times". it is absolutely understandable the distress and upset this caused to those familifamily. >> british prime minister theresa may says she plans to talk with president trump about the leaks during the nato summit they're both attending. happening now, president trump is in brussels, the fourth stop in his overseas trip. in this case, the president may be facing a less forgiving crowd. he met yesterday with belgium's prime minister and offered a pledge to work together on terrorism but you may recall president trump called brussels "a hell hole" on the campaign trail in reference to muslim

immigrants. some belgians have yet to forgive him. the president is scheduled to attend a nato summit later today. tough reception abroad. tough response here at home, too. president trump's budget proposal slammed on multiple fronts including the math that was used to forecast economic growth and the republican health care overhaul tied to the budget. the cbo, the congressional budget office, says money saved from enacting the gop's american health care act would cause 23 million americans to lose their health insurance. a woman says she was sexually battered by a man while on a bart train in the east bay. it happened at some point between the richmond and north berkeley stations. bart reports the suspect ran out of the train at the north berkeley station and hasn't been found. also developing, investigators sopt foul play in the case of a san francisco uber driver missing since last week. 48-year-old piseth chhay was

last seen may 14. according to san francisco, his last-known contact was with a long-time friend who they now call a person of interest. bob tang was supposed to meet with investigators this week. police say they hi he may be on the run. >> he was scheduled to be interviewed yesterday and we subsequently learned that he may have left the country and flown to cambodia monday night. >> police are working with international authorities to track down tang whoiz family reported him missing yesterday. cadaver dogs were brought in to search three properties linked to tang. follow up right now, turns out bart is bringing in outside help to figure out why two train cars derailed at the daly city bart station last weekend. the east bay times reporting the transit agency is hiring a consulting firm from colorado to help. the derailment happened on saturday. nobody was hurt. coming up on 6:07 with some

cloudy skies to start. it's 58 degrees as you get ready to head out the door. we'll get a lot of sunshine with the exception of right there along the coast and it will be cooler there. half moon bay 68 degrees, san francisco getting clearing and a high of 61. 71 in napa and concord today with the sunshine will warm up to 75 degrees. although these temperatures are cooler than we've seen it stays very nice as we head into the weekend. we'll talk more about that and the temperature trend for santa clara coming up in three minutes and mike says there are a few slow spots on the road right now. >> just a few, not the traditional build we often see. it's 6:70 c6:07. there's the castro valley y. the south bay has a tiny blip for 101 at 680. north of the bay bridge, an easy

jennifer ray mcclary after police say she robbed a bank dressed as a man. they released surveillance images that show her with a painted beard on her face. her linked in profile indicate she is worked for the lapd and another southern california police department until 2010. danville police say she was fired. >> it's kind of sad that somebody would fall to that level in life and become that despera desperate. she obviously had some issues she was dealing with. >> danville police say mcclary handed tellers a note but didn't have a weapon. facebook is signing up with buzzfeed to make shows for its video service. facebook is reportedly planning two tiers of content, scripted shows with 20 to 30 minute episodes and shorter scripted and unscripted shows with five to ten minute episodes. >> as for the man behind facebook, mark zuckerberg,

randolph hearst. the s&p 500 starts at a new record. the federal open markets committee is likely to raise rates in june. first time jobless claims are out. the world's leading drone maker is showing off a new inexpensive drone you can control with the wave of your hand called the spark. it's really more just a flying camera. but you can see him pushing it away with that. it recognizes you 400 bucks, pretty cheap. this is also from dji, this next video i'm going to show you. just showing you more of what you can do with it. it just float there is and waits for the signal to take your picture and there you go. drones, you know, the big ones, drone, this is just a flying camera. it doesn't go far away but recognizes you and follows you around as you go.

>> it's going to be bright and sunny. we are going to have the time of weather you want to spend all day outside so you need to use the sunscreen. right now in the peninsula looking at that palo alto camer camera. it's 58 also starting out with clouds and you can see the clouds from our belvedere camera in the north bay. after all of these clouds roll out, and for the north bay up to 68 degrees. san francisco will be windy again today with some clearing and a high of 61. if you're planning to go hiking in the south bay, hitting some of the trail there is or just going to the park, here's a look at the temperature trend throughout the day so in the next hour, we'll be at 55 and

clouds overhead. it will be breezy with mostly sunny skies up to 70 by early afternoon. and then this evening nice and comfortable. maybe long sleeves with sunshine. you need the long sleeves if you're planning to head up towards the sierra. this is a live look at kirkwood as you get ready to drive in that direction. keep in mind that by tomorrow and saturday that there will be some scattered showers and maybe a slight chance of thunderstorms. we'll be watching out for that. on sunday it clears out. we're looking at more of the same temperatures in san francisco heading into the long holiday weekend, the warmest day will be memorial day, 65 degrees. for the inland areas it will be nice then you see temperatures going up a few degrees in time for the weekend. we'll be up to 83 on monday. i'll have a look at the weekend forecast in 10 minutes. mike is showing you slowing in the east bay. >> that's right. that's the only spot where we're

seeing appreciable change for those speed sensors. just off the castro valley y, we'll show you how that impacts your commute. first the south bay up to the city no major issues over here we have a little slowing off the berkeley curve. it's countercommute up toward the university area in berkeley. we had an earlier crash. i moved our camera there, though. the speed sensors are a little slow to catch up. so it was reported at the exit at ashby. the lanes are clear and light traffic going away from the bay bridge again. this should recover quickly on our sensors as well. we'll get you to set of sensors, the waze sensors. three options going from san ramon to san jose. an easy drive but i talked about that slowing off the castro valley y. so we have three routes listed here. the blue one takes you to the castro valley y, that's 90 minutes, the purple one goes to the tri-valley and that's a half hour better so we're definitively saving you time through this area, you can use waze to plan your best times.

to a lake county woman who lost her home in a fire-- yet was welcome back, everyone, it's 6:23. nbc bay area responds to a lake county woman who lost her home in a fire yet was turned over to collections for not paying her dish network bill. >> consumer investigator chris chmura joins us now with her story. chris? >> reporter: catherine lost her home in the big lake county fire in 2015. she was forced to relocate. but she says she canceled many of her home services, including her dish network as much as but several months later she saw charges on her debit account for dish network service. she also says dish turned her over to collections for non-payment. catherine says she called dish and told her story to them but they said no, you only paused your account, you didn't cancel it all together. catherine says that's not true. she says she pointed out to dish

that she has no longer a home or dish equipment and therefore no dish service but she says dish told her that didn't matter so she reached out to us for help. we contacted dish and it refunded $229, the amount it had charged her after her home burned. it contacted the credit bureaus to restore her credit. in a statement, dish said "we are pleased that we've been able to resolve this issue and we regret the frustration this has caused." if you have a consumer complaint, let us know. the number is 888-996-tips or nbcbayarea.com/responds. >> a lot to go through for that poor woman. thank you very much, chris. 6:24 right now. bay area home prices last month hit record highs. the research firm core logic crunched the numbers on this. they found the median price for prooef twro previously owned homes rose to a record $800,000 in april. the mercury news reports that jumps the previous high of $752,000 in june of last year, analysts say the bay area's

inventory of homes continues to follow far short of demand. 6:24. when it comes to staying safe on u.s. roads, a new report finds the bigger the better. the insurance institute of highway safety studied driver deaths over four years through 2015. 11 models had zero fatalities during that time. the study found larger vehicles were more protective than smaller ones and some of the models with zero driver deaths included the audi a-6, mercedes benz m-class and the bmw 535. happening today, we'll find out who's facing off against the nashville predators in the stanley cub final. it's game seven of the eastern conference final tonight. maybe the best thing in sports. the pittsburgh penguins are battling the ottawa senators. that game starts 595:00 on nbc sports network. you can catch the stanley cub finals here on nbc bay area. game one is set for monday at 5:00 p.m. if you still need to get your hockey fix in person, san jose barracuda, the sharks emi

feels like spring. kari hall joining us with a look at your forecast. kari? >> it will be a beautiful start into the next couple days. the start for the weekend, here's a live look outside at fremont. we know it's been windy these past couple days because we're in transition and it will be a cooler day after we start out at 58 degrees. going to see the high temperatures later today for the inland areas reaching into the low to mid-70s which is cooler than where we should be for this time of year. along the coast 58 degrees at half moon bay. in san francisco 61 and 71 today in napa so get out there and enjoy it. we will talk about the weekend forecast, the few events going on is coming up in seven minutes. mike is talking about a new crash in the tri-valley. we had a mild build and an easier calmer commute, we had calmer but we see the south bay. there is a build there, in the tri-valley this continues to

change over the last five minutes. slowing south 680 where there's a crash reported possibly blocking one lane. the speed sensors adjusted but we see clearing at the southern portion. we will show you the san jose camera i talked about as well. here's 680 northbound 101 and the slower drive as you head up. we'll track this as this indicates the build for the south bay commute. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. happening today, it could be a big day in the murder trial of three santa clara jail guards. >> kris sanchez joins with us the big developments wekts s we see today. >> reporter: the courthouse will open in a few hours and all along the santa clara district attorney's office has said this is not exclusively about the death of one inmate but about an

abuse of power within the system. they will deliberate whether jereh lubrin, rafael rodriguez and matthew ferris beat a bipolar inmate to death. the three could get a life sentence if the jury finds they did. michael tyree was found dead in his cell in august of 2015. the coroner said his mean was nearly ruptured in two. the three are also chavrjed with the assault under color of authority of juan villa, a second mentally ill inmate the same night. the defense claims tyree died from injuries he inflicted upon himself. during the trial, some former inmates testified they saw the deputies in tyree's cell and they heard tyree crying for help. the defense contends the testimony of those i mates is not to be truthed because they have their own motivation in giving it. the courthouse will open in a bit, no cameras are allowed in but we will have an nbc bay area reporter inside. as soon as the verdict is red, we will have it for you. in san jose, christian saykris y

in the bay. developing this morning, an east bay community coming together to support the camfami of a nine-year-old boy shot in the stomach on his birthday. a bullet hit isai catalan when they were walking their puppy in east oakland. the family was walking to a nearby store following his birthday celebration. police are trying to determine why the shots were fired. >> investigators at this point believe the nine-year-old boy was not the intended target of that shooting. >> this is one of those moments where it's super important that we as a team help each other out. >> the boy's soccer team oakland fc leopards is also helping. they raised money and signed a poster and ball for their teammate. another tough reality for american students. today sequoia high school in redwood city getting a lesson on how to responsibility in the event of a mass shooting or

attack. the training will be led by stanford medicine's trauma unit and they'll visit several bay area high schools. the goal is to teach students and teachers how to stop massive bleeding and save lives. south bay water leaders will hold a work shshop to examine t state's on going water fix project. if governor brown gets his way, it will include twin tunnels sending water from the delta to southern california. it's ghoulish and mysterious, it's one of the world's most haunted houses, the winchester mystery house opening up new areas never seen before for tours for the first time in its 94 year history. >> bob redell is brave enough to go inside the mansion. he joins us live with a sneak peek of this new tour. are you seeing mysterious things, bob? >> reporter: well, we have people who've heard weird things in the night. even this morning. we'll talk about that in a

minute. it's called the explore more in the winchester mystery house. about 110 rooms have been open to the public but they've added 45 as part of this explore more tour, including some rooms that have never been visited by the general public before. i'm going to poll owe you in, the historian. this is a very unusual part of the house, the first time the public has been allowed in here. they call it the witch's cap because -- >> because it looks like a witch's cap. >> and stand with me in the center. i don't think it's going to translate to television but when you stand here, because of the acoustics, it sounds like surround sound. was this by design, do you think? >> any time you build a cone-shaped roof you'll get that effect. it's well done. >> how did this room speak to you? >> this room is full of, i've been told by sensitives, it's full of spirit energy. >> sensitives? >> psychics, mediums.

suburbs, greenville, south carolina and georgetown, texas near austin. this looked at cities with populations of 50,000 or more. >> we have more than 50,000 around the bay area, a lot of them go across the golden gate bridge. a crash reported into the toll plaza. no injuries and it sounds like they're moving trucks through the area. we'll keep tracking this. we'll show you the speeds out of the north bay we'll take you to the tri-valley where we continue to track this. a crash leaves some debris in the fast lane so watch the slowing off the dublin interchange. it's been there for ten minutes now. that's the worst for the tri-valley. we have a new crash on highway 17 that may be an issue toward the santa cruz side and later

today it will get crowded for the week end. >> i would imagine a lot of people heading to the beach. would that be the best place to go? >> i think so. we can certainly start talking about it. the weekend forecast, you're crafting the different activities. >> >> i think it's always a good weekend. especially if you have a wet suit. it will be cooler and we have a long board surf competition though it won't be as warm as the weather we've seen recently so we are going to have cooler weather today and clouds to start but warming up, look at saturday's forecast. low 60s along the coast and there will be sunshine. the bay up to 68 degrees. 74 inland. not talking about 90s so you'll probably spend more time outside grilling or getting yard work done. you probably want to get that done today it will be mid-60s for the coast, 71 for the bay and inland. 77 degrees. the mushroom mardi gras happening in morgan hill. it's been a great event so get

out there with the family. we will have sunshine and not as hot so mid to upper 70s by early afternoon. sunshine means you need to bring the sunscreen and a big hat to shield you from the sun and we have the long board surf competition kp competition in santa cruz. it will be cool with clouds and fog to start out. visibility will be low and temperatures in the mid-50s but as the sun breaks out, we'll make it into the upper 50s to maybe 60. cooler weather in yosemite and on saturday there will be a chance of thunderstorms and keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in the region are flooding because of that excessive snow melt happening and temperatures will be climbing into if mid-60s by sunday so we won't have sunshine there but how about paso robles? look at how hot it will be. if you want heat this is where you go. upper 60s tomorrow. 79 saturday and sunday 90

person shot and killed outside a south bay fast food restaurant last week. san jose police say 38-year-old george garza of san jose pronounced dead after being shot last thursday near a weaner snits l. so far police have made no arrests in the case and being tight-lipped about any suspect information. san jose's downtown greyhound station has been there for almost six decades but its last ride is just around the corner. yesterday the city council approved two high-rise towers to be constructed on that site. greyhound left the location last may. you're looking at artist renderings of the high-rises. the 23 and 24 story towers will have 700 condos and retail space. construction is expected to begin next year and finish in 20 20206:46 right now. the people of montana head for a special election to pick the state's only house representative for the special election.

today in the bay. >> we have breaking news just into our newsroom. a homicide investigation is under way in san francisco. around 5:30 this morning, police responsibilitied to vernal heights park, they found a man suffering from apparent stab wounds there. the paramedics responded and the victim was declared dead. we're told detectives are still on the scene right now. our pete suratos is headed there. a live look at san jose's hall of justice where jurors today will begin deliberations in the trial involving three jail guards accused of beating an inmate to death. prosecutors say correctional deputies beat mentally ill inmate michael tyree to death in august of 2015. the three may receive life in prison if they're found guilty. the defense argues tyree died from self-inflicted injuries. >> we'll show you live pictures from inside the winchester mystery house in san jose kind of looking at the outside. you are looking at an area of the house that's never been open to the public until now.
