going to notice we're on the cooler side this morning and also seeing some breezy conditions along the coastline along with a nice marine layer. that's going to keep the skies looking overcast, at least through the midmorning. south bay at 58 degrees. peninsula in the 50s. tri-valley, 56. not very cold. overall, very nice temperatures. san francisco, 53. east bay, 59. if we take a live look at the doppler radar, you can see some of the fog building in. that's going to keep the sunshine hidden just for a little while. i do have better news as we head to the later part of the day and memorial day weekend. let's head to mike first. >> because it's friday and before the three-day weekend, we'll probably see a light commute. it gets crowded as we approach the 7:00 hour. right now, the concern, speed sensors are moving well, but a jackknifed big rig just off south 880, that's the issue,

sounds like at least one lane blocked. a tight squeeze as you make the transition. we're getting more detail, but so far, everything outside of the tranmoves well. looking to the bay bridge as well with an easy drive. back to you. >> thank you, mike. >> the search continuing right now for a missing uber driver in san francisco. this as his wife makes a desperate plea for answers. >> she says a man police are calling a person of interest is actually a longtime family friend. today in the bay's gene ellie spoke with her and has new clues in the case. >> recorded my son getting his certificate, and i try to tell him, you know what. mama is going to take this video and when baddy comes home, we can show him. >> she's recording her son's milestones alone while police search for her husband. the 48-year-old uber driver hasn't been seen for 11 days. >> i'm wondering where my husband is.

>> police suspect foul play and name a family friend bob tang as a person of interest. they have now searched properties linked to tang in san francisco, antioch, and hayward. they found his car at sfo. they believe he flew to cambodia monday to avoid police. kim said she's shocked a man her kids call uncle bob would hurt her husband. >> why would someone we consider a brother or uncle would do that. you have your own family, two children, two sons of your own. >> tang's family reported him missing wednesday. police are now searching for two men who have known each other for six years. kim says she doesn't know what happened between tang and chi may 14th, but she does know two families are now suffering. >> i have not talked to his wife. she's probably going through hell like i am. >> it's 4:33 right now. and new this morning, sucker punched on the stanford campus. the palo alto weekly reports a

man was punched and then robbed on campus about five hours ago, right around midnight. the weekly reports the victim was walking on campus drive near avery mall when two men approached him from different directions. police say those men punched the victim in the face and then tof. the suspects are described as black men about 6 feet tall with braids or dreadlocks. >> a developing story to report on. new clues in a violent staffing investigation that involves a san jose state football player. we have obtained video that shows the suspected attacking chad miller, a starter on the football team. this video that you're looking at police are looking, highlighting the men in the video saying this is crucial information. miller was stabbed late saturday night in downtown san jose only a few blocks from campus. as of right now, that video is the best lead investigators have. >> obviously, we're sharing images and descriptions hoping somebody will recognize them and get in touch with us so we can

find some justice for this victim. >> miller suffered serious injuries in that stabbing. he is expected to be okay. he's a junior at san jose state and plays safety for the spartans football team. >> a million dollar payout is on the table tain the sex abuse case that rocked the oakland police department, but it was just a fraction of what the victim was asking for. we learned the city attorney is recommending that the city council approve a nearly $1 million payout for the claim filed. the woman also known as celeste watts told investigators she had sex with as many as 30 members of east bay law enforcement ageanies. some of those happened when xi was a minor. that has to be approved by the city council. the original claim sought $66 million in damages. >> a victory and an apology. a congressional candidate charged with misdemeanor assault of a news reporter still won at

the ballot box. greg gianforte emerged victorious one day after he was charged in a violent encounter with a reporter. the race, of course, was thrust into the spotlight after ben jacobs, a reporter for the guardian newspaper, said gianforte grabbed by by the neck with both hands and slammed him to the ground. there is audio of that confrontation. and a fox news crew that was there backed up jacobs' version of events. gianforte apologized for the incident. >> last night, i made a mistake. and i took an action that i can't take back. and i'm not proud of what happened. i should not have responded in the way i did. and for that, i'm sorry. >> okay, that is the apology. of course, it comes after the election. he says he wants to, quote, make montana great again and drain the swamp when he gets to washington, d.c.

time? at the closing around $993 yesterday, amazon stock is up more than 30% this year as investors have continued to flock to tech names such as apple and facebook. speaking of amazon, it's finally opened its drive-up grocery store to the public with two locations in seattle. amazon fresh pickup is free for prime members and there's no minimum order. customers place their order online, drive to the store and then wait. once it's ready, an employee wheels it out, puts it in the trunk for you, and the stores carry everything you would find at your local supermarket but at higher prices. going to cost you $1 each and you have to pay more than $6 a gallon for milk. >> always the case. >> milk, i mean. add a couple bucks and that's big time. >> that's why i drink wine. >> national wine day yesterday. speaking of which, a lot of

xfinity. the future of awesome. landmark .. reaches a major milestone tomorrow: the bay area's signature landmark reaches a major milestone tomorrow as we look live at the golden gate bridge. this morning, on may 27th, 1937, the golden gate bridge opened, connecting san francisco to martin. to celebrate, special events will be held at the south end welcome center and over the entire memorial day weekend, including today, parking lots closed at both ends of the bridge from 11:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the evening. >> those parking lots get so popular, sometimes people would line up and bog down the freeway as well. >> i wonder if that was the thing in 1937, with people coming to the other side of the bridge. >> get your selfie.

>> throwback. >> i like the over the shoulder look. >> we are getting ready for this holiday weekend. we were talking about fact a lot of people heading out of town yesterday. i think they're ready. >> they're ready. if you're coming in to town, if you're waking up in the bay area for the first time this morning, well, you're probably going to notice we're not seeing bad temperatures, in the 50s. we are, though, seeing clods and overcast skies, especially along the peninsula. tri-valley at sd56 degrees righ now. the north bay in the 50s at 53 degrees. now, that doppler radar is showing some of the fog i'm mentioning. we have a nice marine layer. that's what's going to keep us nice and cool. expect to keep the increase in cloud cover and also expecting for the winds to pick up through the weekend as well. today's forecast, we're expecting slightly cooler temperatures than what we have been seeing, but expecting 60s along the coastline. 57 for half moon bay, and then

inland as we head down to the south bay in the 70s. 72 for san jose. napa also in the 70s. livermore, 73. and let's talk about memorial weekend. now, i just want to remind you folks about a few beach safety tips. remember to stay hydrated. wear a lot of sunscreen, and always look out for rip currents. if you do end up getting caught in a rip current, remember not to swim against it. swim parallel. take frequent breaks and check for warning signs. the lifeguards usually post hazards with different colors of flags. be careful out there. as we head into saturday, we are expected to start fairly cloudy with a windy coastline. temps will remain fairly nice, in the 60s. by 3:00, things stay cool, in the 70s. then heading into sunday, i know a lot of people are going to be outside barbecuing. also expect to see overcast start. cool temperatures. winds will be picking up with stronger winds along the coastline and then as we head into monday for memorial day, if you have the day off, here's a

quick check of what you can expect. we will be warming up by about 11:00 a.m., expect a light breeze. if you have plans to have a barbecue outside, the winds won't be too much of a factor but still could pick up towards the afternoon. 1:00, a nice combination of sun and clouds and then we warm up to the upper 70s because we have high pressure building in and it's going to start bringing us back to warmer temperatures, especially for inland areas. if you take a look at sunday as we head into monday, we start warming up into the 80s yet again in the bay area. so please enjoy these 70s. mike, how are the roads looking? >> overall, light traffic flow. its are 4:48. also a lot of folks took off out of town, as sam was talking about. the bay bridge out of san francisco was a nightmare by noon yesterday. likely to be an early getaway today as well. because folks have gotten away, a lighter flow of traffic expected for much of the early commute. looking at northbound 680 at cougman. at one point, all lanes were

blocked, but i haven't been raising the red flag because this has been open for the course of our show and this should be just about clear as you go from pleasanton to sunol a smooth flow of traffic on the transit lines as well. a weekend closure for lake merritt. a 20 to 40-minute delay because of the bus bridge taking you around the bend over there. that's going to continue, including monday, the monday holiday. and vta also talking about construction, so there will be changes to some routes on the various days including monday as well. keep that in mind. let's get a look at waze. plaeb you're taking the airport route, getting from berkeley to sfo for drop-off or pick-up. so clear, all routes are leading across the bay bridge. the most direct route. 101, no problems. throughout the weekend as we talk about a big driving holiday, you want to check your phone and check your waze app and check your profile to make sure as you hit the magnifying glass and your name, it shows up with our team. nbc bay area wazers.

that way, we continue to share the information throughout the week and help you find the quickest route. >> thank you. >> you talk about the airports there. a live look at sfo where crews today are resuming a lengthy runway repaving project. that's going to impact plans tomorrow and the next day. workers are doing the repaving work and relighting a run way. due to recent weather delayser teams will be working over the holiday weekend. bottom line, check your flight status before you go to the airport because about a dozen flights tomorrow and sunday are canceled and many others will be delayed. >> we decided it was probably better to do a small one in the midst of the memorial day weekend rather than push deeper into june. as you get into june, every weekend gets busier. >> the work is not expected to impact flights today or on monday. the airport says some weekend delays could reach an hour and a half. >> we have dramatic new video to

show you happening overnight in los angeles. look at this. the flames bursting through the roof of a strip mall, and firefighters are there just inches away. you can see their silhouettes there. it is a dangerous situation, as the roof begins to collapse, swallowing the air conditioning unit there. firefighters were able to get it under control without injuries. >> now to a raging fire in downtown stockton which we reported as breaking news in our 6:00 newscast. the flames spread to a neighborhood neighborhood, destroying one home and damaging four others. there were no major injuries, though, and crews remained on scene overnight mopping a. a pile of wood pallets call fire after 5:00, and the windy conditions fueled the flames and it took crews more than two hours to get that under control. >> the perfect storm there. >> the san bernadino massacre will never make sense, but law enforcement is revealing what

they learned about how the terrorist plan came together and how the terrorists were taken down in hope of preventing a future attack. >> first, happening right now, we have breaking news internationally to get to this morning. early reports of a gunman attacking christians on a bus in egypt south of cairo. at least 24 people have been killed. some reports say 25 others are injured. thus far, no group has claimed responsibility for that attack. >> as we sift through president trump's proposed budget, we're learning it would eliminate funding for an early earthquake warning system for california. it would also be cut for tsunami monitoring systems and weather forecasting systems. back with more news in two minutes. this is gus.

proudly caring for northern california, francisco welcome back. a live look outside this morning. downtown san francisco. all lit up. the sales force tower just sticking up above the sky line out there, and it is going to be a nice day in store. vianey is in for kari this morning. she'll have your forecast in a couple minutes. >> 4:55 for a newly released report shows how officers found and killed the suspect in the san bernadino attack in 2015. police were able to track the suspect and his wife by tracing their cell phones. the report says when officers found them in a black suv, farook got out and started firing his weapon. officers fired back. 27 bullets hit farook. his wife, though, kept the gun battle going until she was killed. she was shot 15 teams. both suspects were heavily armed and fired about 80 rounds. >> it was a painful year for one family. a vallejo family not giving up

hope in finding a missing teenager. this year marks one year to the day since pearl pinson was last seen leaving for school. police shot and killed her kidnapper on the central coast the following day. but pearl still has not been find. her family made posters and held a vigil hoping to keep pearl's case in the spotlight. >> your daughter, niece, nephew, think if this was your loved one. how would you feel? >> we need closure on this. we need to know. >> such anguish for that family. traces of pearl's blood were found in the kidnapper's car, but so far, that's the only clue investigators have at this point to go on. >> happening today, fbi agents will present new details in a bay area murder that was never solved to this point. today marked 23 years since an attacker brutdally stabbed a 14-year-old to death inside her castro valley home. tonight, family and friends will hold a memorial service and walk in her honor.

for law enforcement, so do be aware of that. also want to get to your forecast because we know you have plans to make. here's vianey arana. >> good morning. it is 5:00 a.m., but at least we're not seeing any 40s. current conditions right now remain in the 50s. but do expect to see some overcast skies, especially along the coastline. we're seeing a nice marine layer that is creating some fog. 54 degrees, half moon bay. san francisco, 55. san jose already at 58 degrees. the temperature trend is showing a promising start to memorial day weekend. by about 12:00, we start seeing those clouds clear out and we do begin to see breaks of sunshine warming up to about 66 degrees. san jose is expected to climb into the 70s, and san francisco is also expecting pretty positive conditions. i'll have a closer look in a minute, first, mike. >> because of the memorial day holiday, we have lighter traffic expected all around the bay morning commute. that's what we're finding utit's only 5:00. where we
