away any strateging positions for law enforcement, so do be aware of that. also want to get to your forecast because we know you have plans to make. here's vianey arana. >> good morning. it is 5:00 a.m., but at least we're not seeing any 40s. current conditions right now remain in the 50s. but do expect to see some overcast skies, especially along the coastline. we're seeing a nice marine layer that is creating some fog. 54 degrees, half moon bay. san francisco, 55. san jose already at 58 degrees. the temperature trend is showing a promising start to memorial day weekend. by about 12:00, we start seeing those clouds clear out and we do begin to see breaks of sunshine warming up to about 66 degrees. san jose is expected to climb into the 70s, and san francisco is also expecting pretty positive conditions. i'll have a closer look in a minute, first, mike. >> because of the memorial day holiday, we have lighter traffic expected all around the bay morning commute. that's what we're finding utit's only 5:00. where we typically see a light

volume at the castro valley y anyway. my concern is 238 off 880, reports of a jackknifed big rig and two trailers it was hauling. there has been a tow truck called and chp is also on scene. no slowing outside of interchange, but be careful. south 880 heading to castro valley. in through castro valley, the castro valley y commute direction does move slowly. back to you. >> thank you. now back to the breaking news in gilroy. a heavy police presence in a residential neighborhood, and we have seen a s.w.a.t. team van, and police surrounding a home there. >> all this happening about three miles south of the gilroy outlets. bob redell joins us from gilroy add the scene on irving court. a residential area. what can you tell us about what's happening? >> good morning. irving court is off monterey street where you can see this is a crime scene commanded by the gilroy police department with assistant of the santa clara

sheriff's office. we had a member of law enforcement tell us off camera somebody was shot in the leg overnight. we know three people are in custody. two men and one woman. we believe by the looks of them, they possibly are juveniles. you can see the attention is focused on that home there, the back side of earvin court, where one of the s.w.a.t. armored vehicles out front. it appears they're still trying to clear the house and are possibly still looking for somebody. since we have been out here in the past 20 minutes, it's been relatively quiet, but we did hear some of the officers speaking at the command post about trying to clear that home. again, three people in custody, appears all three are juveniles, and as we heard from law enforcement person off camera, they tell us one person shot in the leg. that person's condition unknown, as you heard in the video, sounds like there's some canines outside searching for somebody.

you can bet on that. we're following more on his trip abroad. >> here at home, the russia investigation reaches a person deep in president trump's inner circle, his son-in-law jared kushner. nbc news learned jared kushner is under scrutiny by the fbi. tracie potts joining us live from capitol hill, tracking the very latest. he's a central figure in the white house. what do we know? >> very powerful and influential figure in the white house as well, sam. it doesn't necessarily mean the fbi thinks that kushner has done something wrong. it does mean that they think he may know something to help this investigation. multiple sources tell nbc president trump's son-in-law and adviser jared kushner is under scrutiny by the fbi. that does not mean he's a subject or target of the russia investigation. or that he's suspected of any crime. >> it may be that he has information, that he attended meetingsering that he participated in conversations
5:05 am
that might be useful to the investigation. >> we do know kushner had at least two meetings with russian officials, sergey kislyak, and a former intelligence trainee whose bank has been under surveillance for three years. >> why did the trump transition and the trump campaign have so many contacts with the russians and why did they withhold them or lie about them? >> that's what the fbi is investigating. former trump aides michael flynn and paul manafort are subjects of the probe, kushner is not, but he's the first person tied to the investigation in the president's inner circle. >> awfully hard for the president to say i barely know the guy. >> kushner's attorney said he already volunteered to tell congress what he knows. he will do the same if he's contacted in connection with any other inquiry. so the fbi investigation continues, but the justice department isn't saying anything about it at all.
5:06 am

5:16 am
>> uber, meanwhile, has run into more trouble. >> this continues our coverage. what's the latest turn? >> a silicon valley women's group is cutting their ties with uber saying the company's treatment of women was too poor for the relationship to continue. anita borg institute said a letter to uber's executives. the institute helps companies groom women exneeengineers. they said the work environment at uber is just not conducive enough for that to happen. a former engineer at uber went public with her complaints but it's hardly the first complaint about their treatment of women. all of the engineers on the team got company jackets except for the women because the boss decided there were not enough women on the team to justify such a small order. >> i just mean, we would absolutely love to have a strong woman working here. >> i'm not a woman engineer. i'm an engineer.

5:21 am
a quick reminder as we're heading into memorial day weekend, if you're planning to head to the beach, watch for rip currents. at the moment, there isn't any severe threat for a strong swell, but remember to look out, and we're expect the breezier windy conditions to pick up for the weekend. don't turn your backs to the waves. let's talk about the santa cruz getaway. by 12:00, we will be in the 50s. then we're also expecting pretty nice conditions up in sonoma and napa through tomorrow and through sunday. warming up into the 70s. and as we head over to half moon bay, tomorrow, expect to see overcast skies as well. then it will pick up nicely with a lot of sunshine. lake tahoe also looking at nice conditions. and of course, your memorial day forecast. by 7:00 a.m., we'll start partly cloudy on monday and it will start warming up by 11:00 a.m. before we see the high pressure build in and by next week, back in the 80s. upper 80s at that. mike. >> all right, we're looking right now at the pre-holiday light traffic. friday light as well. a good combination.

5:35 am
if you can't swim, stay on the dry sand. don't let your kids get down there at all. >> now, in the event you do get caught in a rip current, he suggests you relax, see where the land is, let the current take you beyond the breakers. look for the shore, swim parallel to it, and surf the waves back in. he also said it's important not to fight the which would make it harder to get back to the shore. we're live in san francisco, pete suratos for today in the bay. >> be careful out there this weekend. pete, thank you very much. >> 5:35 right now. a live look at sfo where crews today are resuming a lengthy runway repaving project that is going to impact some travel plans tomorrow and the next day, too. paying tribute to the warriors with that color this morning. werers are doing repaving work and also relighting a runway. teams say the work over the holiday weekend is really accelerated as they're trying to meet an early june deadline. check your flight status aheof time because about a dozen flights tomorrow and sunday are
5:36 am

5:45 am
along very well. we'll start with what kris was talking about, the g7ing. it's canada, france, germany, italy, japan, the uk, and us. climate change and trade are expected to be big topics. president trump startled many of our allies in the dead kalgz of a new 9/11 memorial sculpture. he said he wouldn't ask how much the new nato headquarters cost and took nato members task for not paying enough. this is a theme that he's brought up several times in the past. mr. trump said they're still not paying what they're supposed to be paying for defense. this is true. only five nations spend the expected 2% of their gdp on their own defense. that money is spent on their own armies, not on nato. nato doesn't have their own military. so when trump said these nations massive amounts of money from
5:46 am
past years, that's simply not true. each country does pay the equivalent of a membership fee to nato. every member state is paid up. you can see many leaders in the crowd reacting to that inaccuracy. trump said it on the campaign trail to americans but continuing that inaccurate statement at nato itself was surprising. we double checked all those figures to make sure. it's pretty easy to do, because we simply just called nato. the spokeswoman confirmed president trump's understanding of how nato works and the president's claim that the countries were behind on payments was simply wrong. and of course, the whole world press is talking about our president shoving the prime minister of montenegro and then straightening his suit. a washington post columnist calls it a national embarrassment. the president of mont nenegro sd it was no big deal. his country is now just joining the alliance.
5:47 am
a shove is inappropriate. a reasonable question to ask, though, why nato is allowing montenegro to join. the premise of nato is an attack on one of us, is an attack on all of us. in exchange for protecting montenegro, they get protection for their military, 1,950 of them. if you have comments about our coverage or questions about what's going on, contact me on twitter. i'm @scottmcgrew. kris and sam. >> and you always answer, too. >> the bay area bridges hit a major milestone tomorrow. looking a little foggy. on this day, may 27th, back in 1937, the golden gate bridge opened, connecting san francisco to marin. to celebrate this moment, special events will be held at the south and welcome center and the entire memorial day weekend starting today, the parking lots will be closed at both ends of
