san francisco. >> a very good tuesday morning to you. taking a live look outside. look at the bay area. a nice start to our day. a lot of people coming out of a nice extended weekend. yesterday, a little cloudy. sunshine to break through, making way for a nice tuesday morning. good morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam balk. a shortened week always a nice thing, and we saw slivers, peeks of sunshine yesterday morning. >> just a little bit for you in san francisco. but the rest of the bay area was all clear away from the coast. we're going to have another day with the morning clouds and then some drizzle coming down. here's a live look outside at the bay bridge in san francisco.

you can see it's kind of very low clouds and the drizzle and fog rolling through right now. this is what we'll see for the next couple hours. take a look at the visibility here. half moon bay down to about 2 1/2 miles. it's lower in spots in san francisco. we'll talk about the sudden clearing and what the temperatures will be as we go into the next several days. mike has spun his tires a bit this morning. >> kari, just a stop signal. just getting started. the damp roadways, we were talking. look behind us. the san mateo bridge has enough moisture on the lens, mist, drizzle, and that's what may be an issue for your windshield. a couple swipes and definitely as you're coming from a standing stop as i was at a signal. i was traveling through the east bay and i had to keep using the wipers once in a while. not far from there, we had a busy 2:00 hour. thingvise cleared up. the latest to clear was the off ramp from northbound 880 at

washington. the off ramp is open, but there's still activity still on the shoulder. >> thank you very much. a developing story now this morning. a police shooting caught on camera. it all went down at a busy shopping center in fremont. >> it happened after officers say the man was threatening people with a metal pipe. bob redell is live with some of the video of the aftermath as well. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura and sam. it happened in this strip mall shopping center here in fremont not far from the intersection. this cell phone video shot by a woman witness gives you a sense of what the scene was like after the police officer shot the man who had the metal pipe. we know this man, the suspect, is in his 20s. still trying to find out who he is and what condition he's in. this happened yesterday around 4:00 afternoon. he was waving a pipe, threatening people. the officer chased the man. the officer was about ten feet

away, the man still holding the 10-inch pipe. there was a confrontation and then the officer opened fire. a wince tells us the man was shot three times, once in the shoulder, once in his stomach. >> he had his hands up. he mentioned love and then he mentioned no, don't, or something. >> this quickly unfolded within one to two minutes is when all this unfolded. >> fremont police say they called for paramedics who then transported the man to the hospital. as is normal with officer-involved shootings, the alameda district attorney's office will conduct a second investigation. this is the third officer-involved shooting this week. in sunday, there was one in san jose. yesterday, vacaville. recording live in fremont, bob redell. today in the bay. >> you mentioned the vacaville shooting, one we continue to follow. we could learn the name of the victim in the shooting as soon as today. detectives looking at body

camera and dash camera footage as they try to figure out what led up to that deadly encounter. it happened yermorning on nut tree road. >> 4:33. the secretary treasurer of one of the largest unions in the country will be in california today. loretta johnson is leading a discussion on school discipline practices and equity in public education. the union says johnson's bay area visit is part of a larger push to create a fairer learning environment for students and teachers. >> let's hope the weather stays nice. students at three schools will have to live without heating and cooling for a little longer. new heating and ac systems will not be installed at arbuckle, cureton, and mccullum until next year. they're all in the alum rock school district. the district is instead building multipurpose rooms at two schools. the district's construction payments are being investigated. a national story here at home that we're starting to see

from more angles. the investigation continuing in a dublin water park where a boy flew off one of the slides this weekend. a photographer with the east bay times shot this shocking video. you can actually see the boy go over the side of the slide, skid across the pavement. he only suffered minor injuries, somehow. the wave water park is owned and operated by the city of dublin and it cost $43 million to build. a statement from the manufacturer white water, rides in part, we are thankful to the 10-year-old involved in the accident walked away with no serious injury. we're working with team at wave and beth of their high-speed slides have been shut down pending an investigation. >> two are dead and five others recovering with critical injuries after a high-speed crash on memorial day. it happened in one of the east bay's oldest and busiest business districts. this is the look at the park near lincoln. a truck with seven people inside

was speeding westbound on park street and then hit a van. the driver of the van suffered nonlife threatening injuries. the truck rolled several times, however, killing two people inside. look how it was sheared off. five others were also hurt. new details now on a story we first brought you yesterday morning. an 82-year-old man chased down a suspected burglar who beat his wife. now she's speaking out. she said a woman attacked her with a stick in the back patio of her san jose house sunday night and her husband quickly jumped in to rescue her. >> i bend over for my shoes. i see somebody hit me. i go, oh, my god. second time, she goes two fast, one after the other one. she didn't give me the chance to get up. >> luckily, her husband there ran after the woman and held her down until sheriff's deputies arrived. they arrested the 50-year-old for assault with a deadly weapon, attempted burglary, elder abuse, and also a

good morning. i'm landon dowdy live at cnbc world headquarters with today's top business headlines. wall street returns from the holiday weekend and will try to build on last week's gains although features are lower this morning. investors may be focused on the economy this week with several reports on tap including personal income, home prices, manufacturing, auto sales and the jobs reports out on friday. the dow slipping two point last friday. the nasdaq up nearly five to 6210. meanwhile, british airways says its computer systems are backup and running today following a worldwide outage that forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights this weekend and stranded 75,000 passengers. the airline expects to run a full schedule from london's heathrow and gatwick airports.

taking a live look outside golden gate bridge. you can almost count the cars out there right now. we're starting out pretty early. 4:44. >> zipper truck. >> yay, zipper truck. that is a cool thing to watch, though. you know? as you sip a cup of coffee, maybe start easing into your tuesday morning. back to the work week. >> i think the zipper truck is like a metaphor for what it feels like to get through this week. it's tuesday, you're moving along. i know i can. we're making it there. nice pattern that we have seep. cloudy to tart, but then clearing up. >> we have been getting some sunshine. but we do start out with cloudy skies. we know that keeps the temperatures down. we don't see the sun until around noon, so that's about what we can expect for today. looking outside right now, three of our microclimates. it's cloudy in the south bay peninsula and the tri-valley. temperatures in the low to mid 50s. but it has dropped down to the upper 40s now in the north bay. look at this. some patchy fog looking live from belvedere, and we're also in the low 50s in san francisco.

but then look at the highs later today. we will get some sunshine and seeing the high temperature up to 72 in the south bay and the peninsula. tri-valley up to 74 degrees. and 61 degrees in san francisco. so we keep those temperatures cool along the coast and in the city. in the north bay, up to 75 degrees today. so looking out the window, you're getting ready for today, and it will be another day for the long sleeves and also a light jacket heading out the door, and also some pants because we will have some warmer weather by the end of the week, but it still will be a little cool in some of the spots today. let's go through the day in oakland. we will have some clouds to start and we'll be at 56 degrees. then, look at those temperatures later this afternoon. once we get some sunshine, only warming up a few more degrees. so it will be cool there as well, and then dropping back to the upper 50s with gusty winds picking up by 8:00. and then as we go into the rest of the work week, we'll be in the upper 60s in san francisco by the end of the week, low 70s

for the weekend. for the inland areas, expect it to be in the low 70s today and then by the end of the week, we'll be in the mid to upper 80s. feeling more like some pool weather just in time for the weekend. and now, mike says b.a.r.t. is back in full service. >> it is. look, all green on the boards. vianey had to talk about holiday service and no service for ace train yesterday. we're back in service for all these agencies and bartd is back to full service after the extended weekend work. as we get to the roadways, no major problems. i showed you the camera at the san mateo bridge. a little mist and drizzle. might be slippery as you come to a full stop. let's take you to the waze system since the speed sensors aren't really a problem except at the altamont pass. waze tells you if you're living the town of tracey, jog down to 580, might be longer but it takes you the shortest amount of time. comparing the routes right now, you can do the on waze and you can also do it on your phone.

i.c.e. agents on hundreds of people protesting inside the capitol. they're opposing the law banning sanctuary cities. hispanic lawmakers say they heard the comment and became enraged. >> follow-up where. the university of california is pulling the plug on reimbursing regents for their group dinner parties. the chronicle found janet napolitano had paid regents back more than $200,000 for some swanky parties held over the last five years. now, the paper is saying the uc is not going to be doing that moving forward. it was a regent who apparently suggested they pick up the tabs themselves. by the way, uc covered those costs through a private endowment. it was not coming through state funds or tuition. >> 4:49. new numbers show teen births continue to drop in the u.s. between 2013 and 2014, the teenage birth rate decreased by 9% during that same period. however, new government data revealed the number of overall births increased by 1%.

the infant mortality rate also continued to decline, dropping another 2.5%. >> a warning about the water. harmful algae blooms are spreading through the waterways. they can vary in color from green, sometimes turquoise, black, even red. if you spot them, that is a sign to stay out of the water. those toxins can be dangerous for kids and deadly for pets. state water resources control board has created a website and app tracking waterways that are affected. it's months away. but google and uc berkeley are inviting amateur astronomers to help document a solar eclims in august. they're hoping for more than 1,000 volunteers to take pictures of the eclipse. the images will be stitched together to provide a continuous view like a time lapse. the eclims is scheduled for august 21st. >> 4:50. resources at the san francisco jail. the mandatory order coming from

the city that will affect hundreds of sheriff deputies and their families. but first, happening right now, more than a dozen people are recovering after severe thunderstorms rolled right through north carolina last night. powerful storms that knocked over trees and blew over mobile homes. all of this south of raleigh. none of the injuries are considered to be life threatening. >> plus, tributes coming in after a zookeeper is killed by a tiger in england. the park north of london is closed today as a result. the tiger entered an enclosure with the keeper when it attacked happened. back in two minutes. ♪

off your tuesday morning. some of our cameras around the bay area showing a little bit of mist and drizzle. that's going to clear up, though, making way for a nice day. kari hall will have more in moments. >> we look forward to that forecast. it's 4:44. we could have the verdict in the thiel of three jail guards accused of beating an inmate to death. jurors will continue deliberating this morning. prosecutors say the 2015 death of michael tyree was an abuse of power by the three deputies. the defense in the meantime is questioning much of the evidence in the case. the guards face life in prison if convicted. right now, there is a deputy shortage at the san francisco county jail. the examiner is reporting that the sheriff as a result has now ordered 840 deputies to work mandatory overtime all the way until september. the department's already spent 22% more money in overtime pay this year as compared to last. and sheriff vicky hennessey said the jail should be staffed for 915 deputies. she planned to hire more by next

summer. >> marin county's new and improved civic center in san rafael opens today. the $6 million project adds bike lanes, landscaping and a round about traffic circle. >> gearing up for the big game this morning. now we're still a couple days away, but the anticipation is building. the warriors and cavs preparing for game one of the nba finals. this thursday in oakland. the players are ready. one of the big questions, what about coach kerr? he was at practice yesterday. coach k. saying -- not the duke coach k. -- said he's feeling better but undecided if he can coach on the sidelines on game one. acting coach mike brown was also under the weather, reportedly with food poisoning. coach kerr poking fun at the situation. >> i told the team the good news is the team is really healthy. the bad news is the coaching staff is dropping like flies. hopefully mike will be back tomorrow. >> one out of two. it's important that the players are healthy.
