seven people died and nearly r50 were wounded in a rampage saturday night. while all the suspects were fatally shot by police officers authorities continue to investigate. they said 12 people have been arrested and law enforcement was searching for a number of addresses in london. nbc's chief foreign correspondent richard engel has more on this latest attack. >> reporter: just before 10:00 p.m., a van began to speed across london bridge jumping on and off the curb, swerving into pedestria pedestrians, coming to a halt on a street filled with bars and restaurants. >> just, you know, an accident. >> so the van came to a crashing stop? >> yeah. >> reporter: this group of lithuanian londoners out for a birthday celebration, then saw the three men jump out of the van that nearly hit them armed with knives. >> i think the bar manager, stabbed him like ten times. >> he stepped in?

>> yeah. >> reporter: this cell phone footage shows the men walking calmly through the market looking for their next victims. >> the guy was running after me but i managed to run away from him. >> he was running at you? >> yeah. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. teams arrive quickly a lly and in for ordering bargoers to get down. within minutes all three suspects were killed by armed officers. the vests the attackers were wearing that looked like suicide bombs turned out to be fake. the rampage left 7 dead and nearly 50 injured. many critically. now investigators are tracking down friends and relatives of the attackers to find out if they were part of a wider network. >> richard, thank you. i want to turn to lucy kafanov. she's in london. lucy, what can you tell us about the latest british response temperature attack? >> reporter: good morning, francis. the terror threat remains at

severe which means the attack is still highly likely as police continue to raid properties across london. we heard from prime minister theresa may speaking not once but twice initially after sharing a cobra meeting, saying police will be releasing the identities of the three attackers as soon as the operation is possible. it's still a live investigation. she also said 11 people remain in custody. as i mentioned, more raids in east london. no new people arrested, although more people taken in for questioning. police at this hour are still trying to get more info on the three terrorists. were they, as the islamic state claimed, a detachment of islamic fighters or were they perhaps loosely an organized group of neighbors, perhaps friends potentially radicalized in the uk in that pursuit there trying to round up anyone who may have nope these three suspects, attackers, to get more information there. we are getting new details on

some of the victims, the first of whose identity revealed, a canadian woman, 30-year-old woman named chrissy archibald. her family confirmed her tragic debt. the french embassy said one of its citizens missing as well, another missing. seven people from france wounded in that attack. this evening we are expecting candlelight cedar ridge it 6:00 p.m. local time in london and then a moment of sill epps at 8:00 p.m. francis. >> lucy kafanov, thank you. late last night at a fundraiser at forbes theater in london president trump made his first public comment about the london attack. >> america sends our thoughts, our prayers and our deepest sympathies to the victims of this evil slaughter and we renew our resolve, stronger than ever before, to protect the united states and its allies from a vile enemy that has waged war on
