blocked as you travel across the high rise. the dumbarton bridge is clearer, but light traffic may keep us moving well. a bridge crew is headed over there. the rest of the bridges move well and no major problems for transitt right now. back to you. >> thank you, mike. there was some problems in the east bay. new video, six people out of their home after an early morning fire in hayward. this started around 2:00 p.m. around olive street. firefighters don't know how this started, but the flames quickly spread to the attic. the fire was knocked down quickly, and most importantly, everybody was able to get out safely. >> we continue to follow a developing situation out of london this morning. these are live pictures from the scene. many reporters getting ready to go live. you see some area there cordons off. several arrested have been made in van and knife attacks that left seven people dead this weekend. >> we know of 12 arrests all linked to the attacks. a van sped down london bridge,

today, easing congestion on the peninsula. take a live look along highway 101 in palo alto, pretty clear so far, but we know come rush hour, it can be a different story. kris sanchez live in redwood city with a community meeting happening later today to discuss traffic concerns in that area. we know it quite well, kris. >> yeah, if you want a lively conversation, you know all you have to do is bring up traffic, and there's certainly no shortage of traffic on the highway 101 corridor through the peninsula. tonight, folks here in redwood city will have a chance to talk about traffic with people who actually can affect change. there is a council meeting, not a council meeting, rather a public meeting here tonight in redwood city. tonight, caltrans and city leaders want to talk to the community about their ideas to ease congestion along 101. there are four main proposals at this point. one would create a toll lane, sort of an express lane like the one on 580 through livermore.

that would include a toll for solo drivers as well. another option would be to extend the carpool lane from sfo south to santa clara county. the line there. also increasing carpools to three or more people instead of just two. the meeting is tonight at 6:30 here at the redwood city council chambers. at 6:00, if you're asking, i take one of those commuter buses or i have a clean vehicle, what does that mean for me? i'm going to tell you about that at 6:00. kris sanchez, today in the bay. >> thank you. >> they're calling it the super bowl of high-tech apple worldwide developers conference. a change of venue this year. bob redell is in san jose. they're back home in san jose. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, scott. you might recall last year the worldwide developers conference was held in san francisco. this year, here in the south bay at the convention center where here we are, the sun is not even

up and you have at least 100 coders and developers waiting for the doors to open at the center, which is brightly lit in the background. the event starts at 10:00 this morning with apple's ceo, tim cook, expected to kick it off with the keynote. apple is expected to announce updates to the software to run the product like the iphone, ipad, watch, apple tv, and mac, allowing coders to prepare for what's coming down the pipeline. according to cnbc, our sister business network, apple faces four challenges. making siri more competitive. apple voice recognition assistance has been criticized for not being, quote, smart as google assistance. augmented and virtual reality. their new phone is rumored to incorporate those features. then you have the issue of the desktop computers. apple has been criticized for focusing too much on the iphone

and they said they should use the conference to show they're still serious about those platforms and finally the issue of china. in china, iphone sales were down 14% in april from the year before. how does apple hope to recapture some of the market share? reporting live in san jose, bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you, bob. >> 5:05. let's go live to oakland, home of the warriors. what a night. golden state warriors delivering again, winning by 19 points. the warriors now up two games to none. >> this game was closer. the cavs hung in there, at least in the first half. at half time, the cavs were only down by three. but it all unraveled after the break. last night also marked the return of head coach steve kerr after his second back surgery forced him to miss the last 11 games. the crowd gave him a standing ovation. >> it felt great. got a really nice reception

this monday morning. you're making plans to get out and enjoy this gorgeous weather. how about hitting some of the hiking trails in the peninsula? it will start out with clear skies and cool temperatures. by 10:00, it will feel more comfortable. probably the best time of the day to get out there and enjoy that time in the sunshine. it starts to warm up by early afternoon. 73 degrees, and this evening, once those winds start to kick in, temperatures will drop just a bit. if you're heading to the north bay, it will be cool to start at 57 at 8:00 in the morning, and then as we warm up by lunchtime, 78 degrees, up to 85 later today. so we're talking about some cooler temperatures in the forecast. that's coming up. mike is still tracking that crash in san mateo bridge. >> that's right. even though our speed sensors, well, all around the bay, we have great sensor reads. but over here, what was reported right around the decline, but a

she said he assaulted her while she was unable to respond. more than 50 women accuse cosby of the same crime. i had an encounter with bill cosby. >> he had gone from helping me to groping me. >> bill cosby raped me. >> he made me a victim. >> cosby and his lawyers say the encounter was consensual. she is the only cosby accuser whose complaint became a criminal case. >> 5:13. at home, santa clara city police chief hosts a town hall today at the montague park building on mcgregor lane. residents encouraged to come and discuss public safety and problems in the community. >> today, google unveils results of the street view technology that maps out pollution instead of roads. environmental defense fund and google used modified street view cars with special sensors. the sensors track bad air quality and local levels. they make a block by block view of where people have the

greatest risk of breathing bad air. today's event starts at noon on pier 19 in san francisco. >> toyota is working on a flying car. it is backing start-up company to develop a single driver vehicle to transport the olympic torch to the opening ceremony in tokyo in 2020.ota has invested $400,000. they tested an early prototype when toyota said barely got off the ground. >> a milestone for sonoma county as the first united airlines flight in 16 years is set to land in santa rosa. the jet is scheduled to land at charles m. schultz airport thursday. the airport is planning a celebration, of course. united is the fourth major airline to fly out of schultz airport. >> homeowners are deciding to stay put these days instead of relocating, they're remodeling. that's according to studies and surveys from angie's list and harvard. home improvement grew more

the second floor of the tower. that's a height of 377 feet. at a speed of 55 miles per hour. it's all a promotion for the tournament and a minimal water company. >> i doencht know, would you do it? >> i would. >> it looks awesome. yeah, looks great. i say i want to do it, but at the top -- >> like you go first. >> you would, though. >> it's going to be great weather for zip lining or whatever you have planned today. it is going to be a nice one to get out and about. our temperatures will be warmer too. here's the way we start out. this monday morning, it's 47 degrees. all clear. you can see it from the camera in pleasanton. for the tri-valley, really beautiful. starting out with the sunrise, and in the south bay, 53 degrees. also 53 in the east bay and san francisco, just a few clouds here and there. it's 50 degrees. as we go through today, we're going to see the temperatures quickly warming up. by the end of the day, we'll be up to 83 degrees in the south

bay. 88 degrees in the tri-valley. east bay up to 72 degrees. and some upper 60s for san francisco. as we get a look at the planner, we're breaking it down for oakland today. we start out at 57 degrees at 8:00, and mostly sunny skies with breeze winds and temperatures reaching just near 70 degrees. if you're planning on hitting the links add half moon bay today, we start out with no fog. it will be a great day for being able to actually see the ball as it goes along the golf course. and low 60s as we go into this afternoon. but then, spending extra time outdoors, you have to deal with the allergies and the pollen count. still moderate, but now getting more grasses in the mix, so we're at a moderate count for grass pollen as well. so that's something to keep in mind. here something that may help us out by the end of the week or just for a little while. we'll have a chance in the rain in the forecast, starting late thursday evening into early friday. this is something we'll be watching through the week. on average in san jose, we get about a tenth of an inch of rain

for the whole mirth. we may be able to get that by the end of the week and looking at the forecast seeing the temperatures in san francisco. some upper 60s for today and tomorrow. then by thursday, we'll have that chance of showers and early friday morning, it starts to get out of here in time for the weekend. mid 60s for saturday and sunday, and mid 70s for the inland areas. today will be the warmest day of the week, up to 86 degrees. still very warm tomorrow, but then we start to see the temperatures take a tumble by thursday into friday. heading over to mike now, still tracking the crash on the san mateo bridge. >> still have that. you see a lot more traffic westbound and it slows about midway through the flat section and you can see the line of cars with the flashing lights. chp has called a sig alert, that means it's expected to take over a half hour to clear this. it will have a major impact as we already see. westbound across 92, not a great

option. we often suggest the dumbarton bridge. if you're heading north, you can go across the bay bridge. the metering lights should turn on any second, though. speed sensors along great, just a small backup on the high rise, but let's show you the impact through waze. the purple route is across the dumbarton bridge. that's the example commute we have. we're saving you 20 minutes compared to the san mateo bridge, even 237, the longer route through the south, that is faster than going across the smasan mateo bridge because of the one lane blocked by the crash. a critical artery across the bay. the rest of the community moves well. make sure to join our waze team. make sure you hit the magnifying glas and then your profile and join our team. we share the reports. we got the last one from someone out on highway 92 and sounds like a slow drive. >> coming up, this is a shocker.

backlash. i can say that, continues across hbo's bill maher after he said the n-word while mocking a joke on the show. >> he since apologized. it happened saturday night in an episode of "real time with bill maher." the comedian used the slur in a joke with senator ben sasse. backlash was quick on social media, with some people calling for maher to be fired. at a rally yesterday, the reverend al sharpton said he should be punished. >> just because bill maher is liberal and our friend, you don't give him a pass. you must have one standard. it's wrong. and we're calling him out on it. >> sasse later tweeted he wished he had been quick enough to ask why bill maher thought using that slur was okay. hbo spokesperson called the joke tasteless and said it would be edited out of future airings. >> meanwhile, racist messages in

a facebook chat has led harvard university to disinvient at least ten incoming students. they will not be part of the class 2021 as a result of their participation in a chat group. it formed out of a larger group of the 2021 facebook page before the students mocked sexual assault and the holocaust among other topics. university officials dismissed those students after reviewing some of the images they sent to others. >> the cost of housing a prisoner in california is soon expected to be the highest in the county. enough to cover a year's tuition at harvard. with governor brown's new budget plan, taxpayers expected to pay $75,500 for each prisoner by next year. new york comes in second with $69,000. salaries and benefits for prison guards are dragging up costs. >> food vendors can start to

and welcome back to you on this fine monday morning, as we take a live look outside at the traffic flow in fremont. you definitely want to be headed north there. that would help a lot. good morning, everyone. thank you for joining us. i'm scott mcgrew, in for sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's get a look at the forecast for this monday morning. today is the one to enjoy. >> especially if you like the warmer weather. we start out with sunshine as we take a live look outside at san jose. waking up this morning, stepping out the door. it's 53 degree. heading up to 83 later today. we will have a mostly clear and cool start. as we go into this afternoon, we will have very warm temperatures, especially for the inland valleys. the warmest day of the week, and then by the end of the week, we may have some rain rolling in through parts of the bay area. i'll talk more about that coming up. as we head to mike, we're still

watching what's happening on the san mateo bridge. >> that's the problem spot, the rest of the bay looks great. we see westbound 92, a crash, a number of vehicles involved, but one has major damage to the front end. i think it's just a problem getting the vehicle through the roadway. that is the problem. now, one of your alternates is going to be the dumbarton bridge. that's looking great. look at the comparison between the two bridges. the bay bridge also looks good. i'll show you a live shot. the metering lights are on, so you have that wait. if you're traveling north -- >> getting busy out there. >> the man suspected of killing a australian tourist at a san francisco hotel could make his first court appearance as soon as today. >> this is a story we broke friday morning. pete suratos has been covering it. he's in san francisco to let us know about the victim and the

suspect. good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, scott and laura. yes, this is a story we have been covering since we brought it to you as breaking news on friday. it's unclear what the connection may have been between the suspect and victim. the suspect is behind bars behind me at the san francisco county jail. not much information on the suspect, but we're learning more about the victim. let's show you a picture of 33-year-old matthew bate, who is from australia. we learned he was a tourist visiting from a suburb of australia where he apparently worked as an analytical chemist. he got into a physical argument with two men on friday morning at 2:00 a.m. let's show you the video, right in front of the da vinci hotel in san francisco. now, police at this time no weapons were involved, but bate was taken to a hospital following the fight with the two men where he died from the injuries. still unclear exactly what led to the fight, but sfpd said this

altercation appeared to be isolated. we do expect them to release more information on the case as the day unfolds. we're live in san francisco. pete suratos for today in the bay. >> thanks for the latest there. >> 5:32. want to take you live to washington this morning where lawmakers back today ahead of what is expected to be a crucial week for the trump administration. two big hearings are expected on capitol hill. that could shed new light on the russian investigation. in the meantime, president trump is on twitter talking about the travel ban this morning. in one of his tweets, he wrote, people, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but i am calling it what we need and what it is, a travel ban. unquote. he lated tweeted, in any event, we are extreme vetting people coming into the u.s. in order to help keep our country safe. the courts are slow and political. today in the bay's tracie potts live in washington with more for us this morning. the president also went after london's mayor on twitter, as

we're learning, the state department said no americans were killed in saturday's attack. >> and laura, we're going to show you those tweets that have caused so buzz between the president and london's mayor. meantime, you referenced the hearings happening here this week. they are big ones. for the first time, we'll hear former fbi director james comey talk about his conversations with the president. the fbi director president trump fired testifies thursday. james comey is expected to explain whether president trump pressured him to back off the russia investigation. the president says the former director confirmed three times that mr. trump was not a target. >> why would he tell the president that? what was the tone and the context of those discussions? >> the director of national intelligence, dan koets, and the head of the national security agency, mike rogers, face

violent tear gas and arrests. that violence erupted yesterday. a pro-trump rally met with at least four counter rallies. protesters from one of the anti-trump rallies threw bricks at officers. 14 people were arrested. >> we have a developing story to share with you from the east bay this morning. an investigation under way as a police shooting injured a suspect. it happened 3:00 in the morning on sunday on st. mary's street right next to 580. investigators haven't revealed what led up to the shooting, but they say they trapped the driver of a stolen van on a dead end street. that's when neighbors say they heard yelling and gun fire. >> we sound asleep, and then we just heard, keep hands on the steering wheel. >> and then what? >> and then don't move. don't move. >> the suspect is in the hospital expected to recover.

neither officer was injured. police say rr reviewing body cameras and looking for surveillance videos. >> happening, jury tliberations will resume in the sierra lamar murder case. last month, jurors found antolin garcia torres guilty of first degree murder. he could receive the death penalty. the defense is asking jurors to consider abuse and neglect he suffered as a child. prosecutors argue garcia torres deserves death, telling jurors he never did reveal where lamar's remains are located. >> authorities in the east bay investigating a deadly stabbing that started on a bus, ended on the streets. this happened saturday afternoon in oakley. police say the fight started on a delta transit bus. that fight continued on to the sidewalk at main street and charles way. one man stabbed and later died at the hospital. police arrested the suspect. >> it's 5:36. the search continues for a stabbing suspect in san jose. it happened on north fourth just

a few blocks from st. james park on saturday night. police told the mercury news the victim is expected to survive. in the meantime, happening today, san jose mayor sam liccardo will hold a community meeting to discuss public safety. the town hall starts at 6clerk 30 tonight. representatives from the police department also expected to attend. >> muniers had to deal with service delays due to a service glitch that happened yesterday around 4:00. they wrote on twitter, a computer problem caused delays for services. the next system was also out of sync during the glitch. it took about 30 minutes to fix that problem. >> good news, not reporting any delays this morning. big delays though for the san mateo bridge. westbound, your commute direction, you see that one set of lights. you can barely make it out, but one lane is blocked jamming up

from a sheriff's helicopter. the injured biker called for help around 1:00 yesterday, believed to have suffered a broken leg. he was six miles from the trail head when crews eventually found him. >> 5:46. people in san francisco, south san francisco, i should say, have been told it's safe to drink from the tap. this after somebody tried to open a hatch on a water storage tank. the breach happened friday, and the sunshine garden neighborhood of south san francisco. over the weekend, we learned preliminary tests found no danger. in addition to testing, the city also flushed the system. just to make sure. police are asking for any information to help track down the person involved. >> at 5:46, in marin county, one group tried to pull fluoride from the drinking water. ponents of putting fluoride in thor say it affects childhood development, despite research that others say proves

otherwise. >> and mountain lions are on the prowl. two were spotted this weekend in san carlos. sheriff's deputies say there were two sightings. the first was 10:00 saturday night, the second two hours later when someone reported a big cat near their carport. people we talked to taking it in stride. >> not surprising, this area. huge open space behind us. and mountain lions are bound to wander through every once in a while. happens once every 18 months or so. >> if you see a mountain lion, you're not supposed to run. you're supposed to face the cat, make loud noises, wave your arms and try to look bigger. >> could make it a dance. >> it's 5:47. rescue workers in southern california, they had to use a helicopter to save a horse who fell down a. rescuers harnessed the horse, flew it to a clearing so they could have more space to help it. a veterinarian kept it sedated so the harness could be kept on

the low 70s, and then it starts to come up a couple degrees in time for the weekend. still, very nice. and mike still tracking the huge delays for the commuters who have to go across the spato bridge. >> tremendous delays if you're using westbound 92 from the hayward side where you're seeing build on this side. we'll outline the rest of the commute, but the bay bridge toll plaza does have your backup and the metering lights are on, but this has been jammed by one lane is blocked by a crash. waiting for another tow truck, and that big backup is a problem from the toll plaza over across towards the peninsula and 101. let's show you what waze is talking about, the delays twice as long for your drive. the dumbarton bridge is a 40-minute drive right now, according to the travel time here. the sensors slow across 92, and you see it takes twice as long if you go across 92. so definitely a better choice. even 237, way down here, even
