happy monday to you. good morning, everyone. thank you for joining us. i'm scott mcgrew. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. hope you're coming off a really great weekend. we're going to make the most of this monday. >> i think so because it's going to be warm. you're making plans and about to head out the door, grab an extra bottle of water, keep filling it out throughout the day and enjoy the warmth and sunshine. here's a live look outside at the golden gate bridge. all clear this morning. no dense fog, hence the warming trend today. 51 degrees in san francisco as you get ready to step out the door. 54 in oakland. 52 in san jose. we'll see highs inland reaching the upper 80s with upper 60s along the coast and in the city. as we head through the week, it's going to be cooling off. even a chance of rain. i'll talk about that. mike starts off with better news acrossing the bay. >> better than it could be or was. the san mateo bridge is the trouble spot around the bay, as we see a light build. a lot of high school graduations

and college graduations so we're see the summer time flow kick in. use the dumbarton bridge because it's much clearer. let me show you what's going on. san mateo bridge had a crash. the better news after all that bads is the fact that all lanes have cleared on the high rise. they cleared the crash. a look at the jam here as you're leaving the toll plaza. it will take a while for the clearing there to ripple back here. that's the situation, first car goes and you have to wait. that's what's going on here. >> thank you very much. >> 6:01. six people out of their home after an early morning fire. it started not far from jackson and sycamore avenue. firefighters say those flames quickly spread to an attic. the fire was knocked down fairly quickly. everyone inside was able to get out safely. >> we continue to follow the developing situation out of london this morning. these are live pictures of a

barricaded street. we're watching the latest. >> the investigation continues as several arrests have been made in a van and knife attack that left seven people dead over the weekend. also new, we learned just in the last hour that no americans were killed in that attack. >> we know of 12 arrests so far, all linked to saturday night's attack. investigators say a van sped across the london bridge, swerved into pedestrians and then it stopped at a popular street filled with bars and restaurants. three men jumped out and started stabbing. police eventually shot and killed those suspects. richard engel spoke to one witness. >> a guy was running after me. i managed to run away from him. >> he was running after you? >> yeah. >> there was a bar manager, stabbed him like ten times. >> in front of you? >> yeah. >> isis is claiming responsibility for this deadly attack. this is something we see all too often. tributes popping up all across

europe. eiffel tower went dark this morning to honor the victims. the british flag you see in berlin as well as a tribute to the victims. our coverage out of london continues nonstop. we will update our facebook and twitter feeds with the latest information as it comes in. of course, bring it to you on television as well. >> 6:03 right now. happening today, it's been called the super bowl for developers. apple's 28th annual worldwide developers conference gets under way in a new location, what's old is new, the south bay. >> imagine that. bob redell at the san jose convention center with what we can expect from the big event. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, scott and laura. you can see, got a few hundred developers and coders out here waiting outside the mchenry convention center. this is a change of venue compared to last year, but it's back here in the south bay for the worldwide developers conference here, being run by apple. doors expected to open shortly

after 7:00. the keynote expected to be delivered by apple ceo tim cook at 10:00 this morning. apple is expected to announce updates to the software like the iphone, the ipad, watch, apple tv, and mac, allowing coders and app developers here to prepare for what's coming down the pipeline. >> they've been surprisingly secretive, which is exciting. >> you thing more secretive than before? >> yes. >> i think there's a lot of excitement about the future of siri and in the home for devices kind of like the amazon echo and the google home. i think apple could do a lot there, especially in protecting privacy where as those those companies don't take it so seriously. >> according to our sister station network, business network, cnbc, apple does face four challenges, making siri more competitive, which you heard that one depping question.

voice recognition has been criticizeded for not being, quote, smart as google assistant. ar and vr, augmented reality and virtual reality. the iphone is reported to incorporate the two technologies. coders can develop apps best incorporate technology. desktop computers. apple has been criticized for focusing too much on the ipad and iphone, while rejecting the i mac. they should show they're still serious about thatfirm, and then the issue of china. in april of this year, iphone sales are down 14% compared to the year prior. the issue is how can they regain some of that market share. reporting live in san jose, bob redell, today in the bay. >> thanks. happening today, a push to ease traffic on the peninsula. there's a meeting today that will about the plans to reduce congestion on highway 101 in santa clara and san mateo county. >> kris sanchez joins us live

from redwood city to explain how you can make your voice heard as trances officials try to come up with a solution. >> good morning, laura and scott. if you want a lively conversation, bring up traffic and you have no shortage of things to talk about with people, whether you're at the office or a party. caltrans knows where the hot spots are in the morning, the bottlenecks. is this where you get stuck if you're driving through the peninsula? the worst morning jams are in red. the evening jams are in blue. you can see there's plenty of it on the map. tonight, folks who live and work in san mateo county in northern santa clara county will have a chance to hear about the plan to ease the troubled from caltrans and the county of san mateo. are four proposals on the table at this point. one would create a toll lane, an express laen like the one that folks in livermore have on 580. that would include a toll for solo drivers as well. another option would be to extend the carpool lane from sfo

down to the north of santa clara county line. now, increasing the carpool also to three or more people. if you're thinking i just got an electric car to bypass all this traffic and now i have to pay a toll, if it goes into effect, clean air vehicles, carpools, motorcycles, commuter buses would be exempt with the fast track flex in. the meeting at 6:30 at the redwood county chambers. we're also starting a conversation on facebook. i posted one of the maps of the proposals and the jams. you can find that on my facebook page. in redwood city, kris sanchez. >> let's go live to oakland, home of the warriors. great night again last night. delivering in game two. warriors two games to what was it, none. >> for a while, the game was close. the cavs hung in there, at least in the first half. at half time, the cavs were only

bridge, do not because this is worse than the last time, and chp has explained why. somebody typed into the system that the lanes were cleared on the high rise. they did not clear. they're still waiting for another tow truck. that may be 45 minutes or longer. i haven seen another tow truck drive through this mess. that's the problem for westbound 92. your alternate because of a lighter traffic flow around the bay is the dumbarton bridge. an easy choice if you choose to look at the map or look at the waze system. the rest of the bay moves very well. avoid the westbound san mateo. >> i always watch that. >> coming up on today in the bay, a major automaker working on a flier car. >> plus, tracking pollution. the technology google is using to track air quality in the bay area. live-stream your favorite sport,

it's 6:13 now. let's get a live look outside at palo alto with some sunshine starting out and the temperature trend for sunnyvale. cool to start, but then temperatures quickly warming up by noon time. we're in the low 70s, and some low 80s by 3:00. mostly sunny skies throughout the forecast. but we will have a chance of rain. i'll talk about that coming up

charles m. schultz airport on thursday. united is fourth major airline to fly out of schultz airline. >> 6:14 on your monday. business and tech news, wall street will try to continue its winning ways. the market largely shrugging off the disappointing jobs report on monday. the dow and nasdaq closed higher for the second straight week. oil prices rising today after saudi arabia, egypt, bahrain, and the uae cut tied with qatar citing the country's support of terrorism, something qatar denies. we'll get data on factories and service. >> toyota working on a flying car to develop a single driver vehicle that will be able to transport the olympic torch to the opening ceremonies in tokyo in 2020. no pressure. toyota has invested $400,000 so far. it has tested the early prototype, which got off the

ground but barely. >> the creator of roomba wants to do for your garden what they did for floors where. they have created a robot that weeds your garden, using sensors to identify and chop down small plants. it's solar powers and water proof. they're launching a kick starter campaign. >> bidding to win a power lunch withen buffet. he is once again auctioning off his time to raise funds to combat homelessness in san francisco. >> over the years, buffett has raised nearly $24 million for the glide foundation, which is run by glide memorial church. last year's winner paid nearly $3.5 million for the honor. the ebay auction started on friday night and bids are over $1 million already. >> a dog is back home after being rescued from inside a tree. they found a pup stuck a tree.

look at that. yeah, they think he got in through a ground hole. he was chasing a little groundhog or something. he went underneath a hole, went up the tree. the firefighter was able to cut a hole in the tree to try to pull the dog out. the dog's owner said he had been missing for two days. >> what that bark? >> tree bark. >> very nice. >> let's check in with kari. >> great weather starting out this monday morning. clear as you get ready to step out. and cool temperatures but it will be warming up today. this will be the warmest day of the week. take a look at some of these cameras. three microclimates, looking at palo alto. 52. south bay, 53. and in the upper 40s from tiburon from the north bay at 47 degrees to start out. now, as we go through, we're going to see it really starting to warm up for some of the

valleys. in gilroy, expect a high of 89 degrees. san jose, up to 83 degrees there. and some upper 80s for concord and hayward, 78 degrees. now, for the peninsula, it will be cooler, of course, half moon bay, 62 degrees. while 78 degrees in palo alto. the marina district. 63, and 85 today in napa. so after this warm start to the week, you'll wand to try to have somewhere cool, maybe heading to the hiking trails in the peninsula. it will be at 54 degrees in the next hour, and then by 10:00, feeling much more comfortable, especially being active, bike ridi riding, very comfortable temperatures in the low 60s, but eventually hitting 73 degrees with the warm sunshine today. the planner for san francisco will be a light wind to start out, just a few clouds. by noon, we'll have a law of sunshine. temperatures in the low 60s, and 66 grees today at 4:00. now, look at this. we'll have a dry week, as it's been dry for a long time, but

there will be a chance of rain in the forecast by thursday night into friday. so as this cold front moves in, we'll be watching for that. it may also in light snow for the sierra. yes, i know this is june. we're still talking about a chance of snow. here's a look at the temperatures and how they dip as the chance of rain moves in between thursday and friday. it clears out just in time for the weekend. highs in the mid 60s there. mid 70s for the inland areas. today, up to 86 degrees and sunshine, we talked about it, the warmest day of the week. and mike is saying avoid the san mateo bridge. >> yeah, definitely. west 92 is not the place you want to drive across the water. you see that one section of slow drive very slow. the dumbarton bridge, a much better drive. in fact, anywhere in the bay a much better drive. west 84 is moving well. 880 down between the two bridges is picking up the volume, but we'll talk about the alternate in a second. that's a tough drive because of the crash, the crash still blocks one lane of the high

rise. oh, yeah, look at this. the truck now slowly and safely making its way along the service lane. that's why years and years ago for folks in the area, remember, they had to close off part of the bridge as they built the service area so they can get through the backup. otherwise, that truck would not be able to help out. rr hoping they can get there safely and clear that soon over the next half hour. we'll track that. look what waze tells us about the slow drive. west 92 jammed up, so you know, of course, from san leandro to palo alto, the purple route is the fastest. about one third the time it would take if you travel across the san mateo bridge even the 237 route is faster than 92. a wazer who we got more information from, you choose your name, choose our team as well. it's in your profile, select nbc bay area wazers so we can share the information. >> never know when mike might say your name.

the sheriff's department in orlando says there are several people dead. authorities say that situation is contained. >> our nbc affiliate is on the scene working to bringia live pictures. also the sheriff's department is expected to have a briefing shortly. we'll give you any new information. live pictures as well as soon as they are available to us. >> in the meantime, the backlash continues against hbo's bill maher after he said the n-word while making a joke on the show. >> maher has since appall skrzed. it happened friday night in an episode of "real time with bill maher." the comedian using the slur to joke with senator ben sasse. backlash was quick on social media with some people calling for him to be fired. at a rally yesterday, the reverend al sharpton said he should be punished. >> just because bill maher is liberal and our friend, you don't give him a pass. you must have one standard. it's wrong, and we're calling him out on it. >> sasse later tweeted he wished

he had been quick enough to ask why maher thought using that slur was okay. hbo spokesperson called the joke tasteless and said it would be edited out of future airings. >> nbc bay area responds to a san jose woman with a $1200 problem she could not fix. >> she reached out to our consumer team for help. chris chmura is here with the solution. >> dolores maid $1200 for a new mattress from sears. she said she made it very clear to the salesperson she did not want a firm mattress. although that wasn't writing. well, the mattress was delivered and dolores said it was too firm for her liking, too hard. she said she contacted sears and a salesperson told her give it time to soften up, so she did. she tried for a new months and said the mattress didn't feel any better. then she says she found a tag on the mattress that said it was firm. she was frustrated. she contacted sears for a refund. and she said she was told it was

pleasanton this morning. good morning to you. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm scott mcgrew. let's get the day started the right way with kari. >> we have cool temperatures and sunshine across parts of the bay area. he's a live look outside from mt. hamilton with the view from the south bay all clear. then we do have some clouds near ocean beach. it's 51 degrees. it's a little cool in parts of the bay as you get ready to head out. 49 degrees in livermore. fairfield, 52, and 52 in palo alto with highs today reaching the low to mid 80s, even some upper 80s. concord as well as morgan hill, upper 80s there for the north bay, 85 in napa and san francisco, 69 degrees. we are talking about some cooler temperatures and a chance of rain. that's before the weekend. so we'll take a look at the weekend forecast coming up. mike is still saying avoid that san mateo bridge. >> yeah, we like to be positive.

everywhere around the bay is great, but traffic wise, this is not good. looks like someone also pulled over to the side. we talk about the big jam. if someone was low on gas, they may have stalled, but the big problem is because of the crash blocking one lane at the high rise. a tow truck just making its way out of our vision, meaning it's almost to the high rise. we hope it's cleared soon, but until it does, this backup extends all the way to the nimitz freeway, and now the build for 84, which is your alternate across the bay from fremont and hayward to palo alto, again, the san mateo bridge is the place to avoid. the rest of the bay moves very well with the south bay just starting to build. >> thank you. following breaking news of of orlando. been a workplace shooting. >> we have live pictures from the scene that we hope to bring you. sheriff's department, we just received this video, this is the sheriff's department in orlando.

they are canvassing the area. they do say thrihave been several fatalities. authorities say the situation is said to be contained and there is not an active shooter. you see members of the fbi there present as well. this is said to be happening in an industrial area. sheriff's department is expected to have a briefing shortly. we'll bring you updates. >> at 6:32, the man arrested on suspicion of killing an australian tourist in san francisco could be in court today. we broke this story right here on nbc bay area friday morning. >> today in the bay's pete surratto has been following the story since then. he joins us live with what we know about the victim and the suspect. good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and scott. we can report that that suspect is in custody at the san francisco county jail, but san francisco police aren't offering much information as far as the information regard that suspect. we are going to get more info on the victim. let's show you a picture of 33-year-old matthew bate. he's from australia. he was a tourist that was in

town, hailing from a suburb in where he worked as an analytical chemist. san francisco police say he got into a physical altercation with two men last friday morning at about 2:00 a.m. in 41 of the da vinci hotel in san francisco. we'll show you some video where you can see detectives on the scene conducting their investigation. now, police are saying no weapons were involved, but bate was sent to a hospital following the fight where he died from those injuries. at this time, police say it's unclear if there was a connection between the suspect and victim, but at least at the time of the incident, it appears to be isolated. we're hoping to get more information on the case as the day unfolds. pete suratos for today in the bay. >> thanks so much. >> 6:33. happening today, jury deliberations will resume this morning in the penalty phase of the sierra lamar murder case. last month, jurors found antolin garcia torres guilty of first degree murder. he could receive the death penalty. the defense is asking jurors to consider the abuse and neglect

he suffered as a child. prosecutors argue garcia torres deserves death, telling jurors he never revealed where lamar's remains are located. >> 6:34. we have a developing story in the east bay this morning. an investigation under way after a police shooting in san leandro injured a suspect over the weekend, 3:00 a.m. sunday in san leandro on st. mary's street right next to 580. investigators haven't said what led up to the shooting, but they do say police trapped the driver of a stolen van on a dead end street when neighbors say they her yelling and then gunfire. >> we were sound asleep and then we heard keep your hands on the steering wheel. >> then what? >> and then don't move. don't move. >> then the gunfire. the suspect in the hospital expected to recover. neither officer involved was injured. police say they're reviewing body cameras and asking if there's home surveillance video nearby. >> authorities in the east bay

investigating a deadly stabbing that started as a conflict on a bus. it happened saturday afternoon on oakley. it started on a delta transit bus. it continued at main street and charles way. one pan was stabbed and later died at the hospital. police arrested the suspect who they caught with the help of a witness. >> and the search continues this morning for a suspect in san jose in a stabbing. this happened on east st. john in north fourth street. a few blocks away from st. james park, saturday night. police tell the mercury news the victim is expected to survive. they don't know the motive behind the attack. >> to washington, d.c. this morning, where congress is back today, and lawmakers are set to hear key testimony this week in the russia investigation. >> president trump took to twitter criticizing the mayor of london for telling people there was no reason to be alarmed after sunday's terror attack. he started tweeting about a travel ban as well, using the word ban, keeping americans safe, he said. he says people, the lawyers and

the courts can call it whatever they want. i am calling it what it needs to be, what it is, a travel ban. >> he later tweeted, quote, in any event, we are extreme vetting people coming into the u.s. in order to help keep our country safe. the courts are slow and political. today in the bay's tracie potts live in washington, d.c. this morning. monitoring all the overnight developments and a big week ahead as well for washington. good morning. >> it is a big week. and a lot of it will focus on the russia investigation with the former fbi director speaking out publicly for the first time about his private conversations with president trump. the fbi director president trump fired testifies thursday. james comey is expected to explain whether president trump pressured him to back off the russia investigation. the president says the former director confirmed three times

that mr. trump was not a target. >> why would he tell the president that? what was the tone and the context of those discussions? >> the director of national intelligence, dan coats, and the head of the national security agency mike rogers spoke. >> in an exclusive interview with nbc, vladimir putin claims russia doesn't stick its nose in other country's elections but the u.s. does. >> put your finger anywhere on the map of the world, and everywhere you'll hear complaints that aofficials are interfering in internal electoral processes. >> frankly, he's lying. >> there's fresh criticism from president trump about this. >> no reason to be alarmed. >> that's london's mayor addressing more police patrols after saturday's attack. president trump tweets, at least seven dead and 48 wounded and payer of london said there's no reason to be alarmed.

adding, we stop being politically correct. and you were talking about those tweets. president trump actually started out using that london terror attack as justification for why he thinks we need a travel ban here in the united states. >> thank you. a chaotic scene in portland. dueling rallies ending with violence, tear gas, and arrests. the violence erupted yesterday. a pro-trump rally met with at least four counter rallies. towards the end, testers frahm one of the anti-trump rallies threw bricks at officers. police fired back with tear gas. 14 people were arrested. >> san jose mayor sam liccardo will hold a community meeting to discuss community safety. the town hall starts at:30 tonight. representatives from the police

department are also expected to attend. >> muni riders have to deal with a service delay this weekend due to a computer glitch that happened around 4:00. they wrote the computer issue caused delays for train services. the sf examiner reports muni's next bus system was also out of whack during the glitch. took about 30 minutes to solve that. >> i'm sure that lit up twitter with those messages. folks get out there right away. right now, muni not reporting delays. barlt is a good option across the delay. under the water, the bay bridge does have the metering lights on. it's the san mateo bridge, that's the problem right now. west 92 still jammed up at the high rise, where you saw the tow truck arriving on scene just a couple minutes ago. they should be hooking up the car that remains after the crash there. the live look shows you how things are shaping up westbound. a big jam from hayward, 880, all the way across to the high rise

guards. >> mountain lions are on the prowl. were spotted over the weekend. there were two different sightings. the first was about 10:00 on saturday night on crestview drive. the second sighting happened about two hours later when someone reported a big cat near their carport on britain avenue. people we talked to were taking it in stride. >> not surprising. this area, huge open space behind us, and mountain lions are bound to wander through. happens once every 18 month or so, a good sighting. >> deputies say if you see a mountain lion, don't run. instead, face the cat, make loud noises, wave your arms, and try to look larger than life. >> wild cats. you have to play defense in the hills. >> we're going to have some great weather going hiking. i guess you should keep in mind those tips in case you ever have to use them.

we're going to have awesome weather for getting out and about around the bay area. here's a live look outside from the castro, and you can see the beautiful skyline there and temperatures are cool to start. but no fog this morning there. looking live from sunol, as we get some clear skies for the inland valleys, it is now 49 degrees there. and long sleeves needed starting out the day, but definitely, you don't need that as we go into this afternoon. especially in parts of the south bay, and gilroy will be up to 89 degrees. and 86 degrees in east san jose. for the east bay, up to 89 in antioch and danville. 86 degrees. san mateo, 72 today. so feeling nice there the embarcadero topping out at 67 degrees, while 87 in sonoma, and we'll have mid to upper 80s in parts of the north bay. you're looking out the window, you see all of that sun coming through the cracks of the blinds, and it will be a day for a jacket to start, but then the rest of the day, just short sleeves and shorts as our

temperatures heat up. it will feel like summertime, but we may be putting on warm layers as we go thuthe week, even needing to pull out the umbrella. rain moving out ahead of the cold front. will be moving in on average in san jose for the month of june, we get about a tenth of an inch of rain. we'll watch to see if this could bring us some measurable showers, but the highest chance will be for the north bay and on early friday morning. we're looking at our temperatures that start out warm in san francisco. the upper 60s today. some lower 60s for the end of the week and this weekend is looking really nice. for the inland valleys, up to 86, dropping down to 72 by the end of the week, and this weekend also looking very comfortable. and mike, finally, you have better news for the san mateo bridge? >> i think this one is really real. we talked earlier chp talked about they thought they had lanes cleared, but the tow truck folks said no, we're waiting for the second truck. they cleared the incident, but

the bridge itself not clear. this is the san mateo bridge westbound, which is barely crawling from the tolla all the way across to the high rise. look at your map. all over the bay, a smooth drive, but this is a very, very bad one 92. now, you have folks traveling south to the dumbarton bridge in the last ten minutes have seen a lot more traffic head to the toll plaza. that's a much better drive. the rest of the bay, not really a surprise for the south bay or tri-valley, thinking the typical summertime traffic there, as well as at the bay bridge approach. i want to show you what waze reports. they say, look, if you're going from san leandro in the east bay to palo alto, use the dumbarton bridge because the purple route is the better one. 1:15 for the route i showed you. look at that. over 2:20 to cross the san mateo bridge. that's a tough drive, and again, even possibly slower than 237. waze lets you know about that. we want to give you the options as well. on your phone, make sure you join our team.

we're learning authorities do not believe this is terrorism at this point. the sheriff's department is expected to have a briefing any moment. >> six people out of a home early this morning after a fire in hayward. the fire started at 2:00 in the morning on olive street, not far from jackson and sycamore avenue. firefighters don't know how the fire started but say flames quickly spread to the attic. the fire was knocked down quickly and everyone inside was able to get out safely. >> taking a live look outside at the san francisco county jail this morning. the man accused of killing an australian tourist could be in court as early as today. the story we broke on friday here on today in the bay, the tourist was in a fight with two people. police say no weapons were involved, but the tourist died at the hospital from his injuri injuries. add least one person is incustody but police have not released the name of the suspects under arrest. >> live to redwood city. talks of easing traffic on
