government contractor for allegedly leaking a top secret nsa document on russian hacking. the charges came barely an hour after "the intercept" published the document. it raises the possibility that russian hacking may have breached parts of the u.s. voting system. nbc's tracie potts is live for us. what's the latest on this leak and the russia investigation? >> reporter: first of all, it's pretty recent, this document from just a month ago and it claims the russian military tried to launch a cyber attack on our election software, that phishing e-mails were oent out to more than 100 elected officials here and all this happened just days before americans went to vote. while you were at the polls last november, russia wasn't just trying to influence your choice with fake news, they were literally trying to hack your vote, according to a leaked

document from the national security agency published by the online news website "the intercept." >> there should be no doubt that the russians were behind this. this fits with a pattern for what they have done in the past, the digital and cyber forensics point to the russians. >> reporter: russian president vladamir putin denied it in an exclusive interview with nbc. >> translator: i haven't seen even once any direct proof of russian interference in the presidential election in the united states. >> reporter: the justice department quickly charged a 25-year-old contractor for allegedly leaking the report. congress investigating russian interference hears from fired fbi director james comey on thursday. >> there may still be a bigger bombshell we haven't heard. >> reporter: the key question, did president trump pressure comey to back off the russian investigation? >> he'll have an opportunity to clear that up. >> reporter: the white house confirms. >> president trump will not assert executive privilege. >> no attempt to stop comey telling his story about a private conversation with the president.

and the white house says that's because president trump wants the facts out there quickly. >> tracie potts for us, thank you. to fresh fallout from president trump's tweet storm early monday about his travel ban which has been blocked in the courts. with his own words the president may have hurt his case as it heads to the u.s. supreme court. nbc chief white house correspondent hallie jackson has details. >> reporter: new questions whether the president's owns words could come back to haunt him as he talks travel ban in the hands of supreme court describing the current version as watered down and politically correct and yes, the president's reiterating it is a travel ban. >> i don't think the president cares what you call it. >> reporter: his administration used to. >> it's not a travel ban, it's a travel pause. >> it's not a travel ban. >> this is not a travel ban. this is a temporary pause. >> we use words like travel ban that misrepresents what it is. >> reporter: why does it matter what it's called?

because the president's words can and probably will be used against him in a court of law. other judges in decisions to block the ban already pointed to the president's rhetoric on the campaign trail. even supporters like conservative lawyer george conway, husband of kellyanne, argues these tweets undercut the president. >> does it make their legal position harder but many would say undermines their credibility as well. >> does the president support his own travel ban? >> absolutely. >> reporter: president trump's later travel ban talk comes in response to the terror attack in london, part of a series of statements in which he also slammed run done's mayor for this. >> londoners will see an increased police presence over the course of the next few days. no reason to be alarmed. >> reporter: the president appearing to take that out of contest tweeting at least 7 dead and 48 wounded and mayor of london says there is no reason to be alarmed. >> look, i think that the point

have been warning signs about one of these at ledged attackers. nbc's lucy cavanaugh is in london. what's the latest we know on the suspects. >> reporter: breaking news this hour. the mets counterterrorism command has released the name and photograph of the third suspect. he's believed to be 22-year-old yousef zagba from east london, believed to be an italian national of moroccan descent, not known to british authorities. italian media giving us details saying he was actually stopped by police at ba loan yeah airport about a year ago on his way to turkey, possibly syria, charged with international terrorism according to italian media reports, but those charges were later dropped. the other one, kur ram shazad butt was known not only to

police and domestic intelligence services but also featured in a television documentary about islamist jihadist extremists that aired about a year ago. not much known about the third attacker, rachid redouane, 30 years old, claimed to be of both libyan and moroccan descent. a lot of tough questions to be asked to the authorities of why yet again another terrorist attack, the individuals knew of this individual, why they weren't able to prevent this attack from happening in the first place. >> lucy kafanov, thank you. day two of the bill cosby sexual assault trial. he arrived with a familiar face by his side, actress keisha knight pulliam. she said while the trial is difficult for all sides, the jury will ultimately have the final judgment. >> i came to support because this is where you hear the facts, this is where the truth happens. >> cosby is accused of drugging

andrea constand, then molesting her in 2004. prosecutors opened their case trying to establish a pattern of sexual misconduct. the first witness kelly johnson one of the dozens who accused cosby of crimes from groping to rape t defense pointed to missing details in the account as well as inconsistency in constand's story. constand is expected to take the stand during the trial. bill cosby has repeatedly denied all allegations against him. a brawl broke out at an iowa mcdonald's when a woman got angry her food wasn't coming fast enough. this woman throws a sandwich at the manager, then jumped over the counter and fights with an employee. other workers and two men with the woman tried to separate them. the trio eventually left. police are still looking for that woman. >> and to florida, one wasn't slick enough for this heist. he stuffed 15 bottles of motor oil and 30 dvds in his pants at the 7-11. when he tried to waddle out

watch these new yorkers trying to claw their way out of an absolutely miserable subway ride. before arriving at the station, the desperate strap hangers had been stuck on the car for nearly an hour. with no power or air conditioning, it became a sweltering oven. the lights were out for most of the trip, leaving passengers in darkness. eventually they were able to exit the train, dripping with sweat. officials are investigating what happened. two people have been arrested in oakland, california, in connection with the blaze that killed 36 people. warehouse manager derrick al need da and tenant max harris were charged with involuntary manslaughter in their role in the ghost ship warehouse fire. it went up in flames following a party. it is the deadliest braze in california history.
