it is smack dab in the middle of your week. kicking off wednesday with a live look outside at the bay bridge. some clouds, a little haze outside, as conditions remain nice and comfortable. today in the bay starts right now. good morning. thank you for joining us on this wednesday. i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's get straight to the forecast. a little cool out there this morning. >> it will be cooler as we go through the day. an increase in cloud cover, especially this afternoon, as we get ready for a chance of rain for tomorrow. as you get ready to head out the door now, it's all clear even though we have seen coastal fog in the peninsula and temperatures in the low to mid 50. it's dropped down to 49 in the north bay. you can see the fog in san francisco. here's a look at the high temperatures for this afternoon.

reaching into the upper 70s inland. so we are in a downward trend with our temperatures. we'll talk more about that rain coming up. mike now has two issues on the peninsula. >> i do. sounds like a lot going on, but really, they're pretty minor as far as the impact to the commuters. so far, the speed sensors don't show any delay, not even at t scene of the crash getting off the skyway and the bay bridge into san francisco. we'll track it, but it sounds like a minor crash. we'll follow updates from chp as they arrive on scene. a ten-minute delay reported initially out of daly city due to overnight track maintenance. shouldn't be a big deal. back to you. >> let's get to breaking news this morning out of iran. twin attacks in the capital of tehran has left several people dead. >> a possible hostage situation could be happening.

several people armed with rifles and suicide bombs stormed the parliament building, at least one attacker blowing himself up. there are reports at least five people have been killed and the attackers are holding a number of hostages. as that group was happening, another group attacked a shrine, killing two people. reports say police have those people surrounded. we'll continue to monitor the situation and bring you the latest updates. we're also following a developing story here at home. firefighters right now on the scene of a five to ten-acre vegetation blaze. as you see on your map, off patterson pass road in between livermore and tracy. fire officials telling us they have contained the flames. good news here to report. again, this is a map of where firefighters have reported that burning, right near 580, just south of 205. no word on how the fire started. >> new this morning, police in antioch investigating a deadly stabbing that happened after 8:00 last night on west 19th

street. investigators say a man was stabbed in the torso, and he died from his injuries. this is antioch's fifth homicide of the year. a cancer patient behind bars accused of plotting to kyle his doctor. >> police say he was looking for revenge after the doctors couldn't cure him. we have more on this disturbing story. >> police say it started with a frantic phone call from the family. 58-year-old yu chen missing from his home along with two guns. chen is battling stage four cancer, and police say he blames his doctors for not getting better. police say they found notes at his home telling his family he planned to kill his bay area doctors, at li three of them. >> i knew he had cancer. she had said to me. she was saying he was not doing well at all. he was not feeling well. going downhill. >> police contacted investigators in palo alto where one or more of the doctors lived or worked. they coordinated a search with other agencies.

police reports show they pinged chen's cell phone tracking him along 101 to the south bay where chp stopped and arrested chen in san jose. the report shows police found two loaded semiautomatic weapons, a mask, and the doctors' addresses in chen's suv. >> we feel pretty confident what his intent was, and if we hadn't been able to in a time sensitive way coordinate our efforts, we would be investigating at least one homicide, if not multiple homicides. >> at least one doctor worked for stanford health care, another at ucsf. >> hard work by a lot of different agencies prevented bloodshed here. >> ian cole, nbc bay area news. >> remarkable work by law enforcement. >> 4:34 right now. we have new details to report. a mother accused of abandoning her 5-year-old daughter in the san francisco zoo is now in custody. that woman surrendered to police late last night. witnesses tell police the woman

left the girl alone on the side of the road monday night and left. all of this happening along the great highway near slope boulevard. police say the wup drove off with her 1-year-old son still in the car. paramedics witnessed part of the incident. they brought the girl to safety. others who live nearby are relieved the girl is okay. >> being curious, they're going to go close to the water. so luckily there's people onhand and they saved the little girl. >> police say that both of the children now are going to be remaining in protective custody for the time being. >> the city of san jose is tackling gang activity and youth violence through a series of town hall meetings. several city leaders including mayor sam liccardo will be there. there will be several more town halls throughout the month. >> new this morning, voters in santa rosa have shot don an effort to enact a new rent control measure. they would have limited

a live look at the golden gate bridge. and a few car s that are out there. you see it's a pretty heavy fog presence. maybe get an extra warm cup of coffee, as we are seeing temperatures dip a little bit this morning. >> not too hot. >> don't burn your tongue. >> we had some great weather on this wednesday morning. we're almost to the weekend. we're making some progress here. also making progress towards some cooler temperatures, and we are also going to see those temperatures now, as you get ready to head out the door in the mid 50s. 52 degrees now in livermore. i want to show you where the fog is, mainly along the coast, and we're also seeing visibility in half moon bay at five miles. as we go through the rest of the day, going to see some of that clearing, and partly cloudy skies. looking at the south bay, and the high temperature will be up to 77 degrees in east san jose. and then to the east bay, up to 79 degrees in antioch.

in danville, 75 degrees. 69 degrees in san mateo, and san francisco reaching into the low 60s. on the embarcadero and ingleside, 62 degrees. 75 degrees today in santa rosa. you'll start to see more clouds moving in. as you're looking out the window, getting ready for the day, it's a day for long sleeves. finally, we had very warm weather, and also some pants to stay nice and comfortable. as we're pretty much done with the shorts weather. as the storm system approaches. we're talking about a late season storm system moving in that will bring an increase in cloud cover as we go through the day, and then looking at when the rain will arrive, early tomorrow morning, we start to see the showers moving into the north bay, but it will be partly to mostly cloudy, and then a lot of those showers weakening as they continue to move farther to the south. we will have some scattered light rain showers by tomorrow evening. then a lot of that clearing by friday with some sunshine during the afternoon. on average, during the month of

june, in the north bay, we get close to .2 inches of rain, but we're expecting the possibility of a little more. in san francisco, we get usually .16, but we could have up to a quarter inch of rain there. it looks like we could have a pretty good amount of rain. even down to san jose where we're going to possibly get the normal amount we get during the month of june all in one day. the showers moving in for tomorrow. and temperatures reaching into the mid 60s in san francisco for the next several days. inland valleys will be in the mid 70s for today. showers tomorrow, and then clearing out in time for the weekend with some much more comfortable weather. and mike. >> we have a delay on the b.a.r.t. system. the update still reports ten minute delays out of the daly city station, but they're recovering. whatever was going on for maintenance overnight, it has now cleared the system and trains should be on the move without much major impact to the

rest of the system itself. looking at the roadway, not seeing major delays. as we look toward the tri-valley and father out toward tracey, westbound 205 to 580, typical slowing. the fire off patterson pass road, a number of agencies out there, but that's not affecting the commute. you might see glow from 580, 205 possibly, and patterson pass is open. as we get you out to the waze system, there are no delays here. looking at a smooth ride. wazer napa pat lol, there's a crash there, so that's what she reports. the rest of the waze committee reports no problems and an easy choice down the east shore freeway. there are your three travel times they picked out for these different routes. obviously the purple choice there. you make your choice and join pat and the rest of the community. share that with us, but make sure your join our team. hit your profile, the magnifying glass, your name, then the team. select nbc bay area wazers so we can share all our information with you as well.

back to you. >> good advice. team gold represented for the warriors. 4:47 right now. a california assemblyman has won the u.s. house seat left vacant by xavier becerra who is now serving as state's attorney general. jimmy gomez won the 34th congressional district in los angeles in a run-off election last night. now, he beat out another democrat because it's an overwhelmingly blue district. gomez represents one of the poorest and most immigrant heavy districts in the state. his win does not do anything to change the balance of power in congress. >> hayward has reportedly become the bay area's latest jurisdiction to adopt sanctuary city rules. council members voted unanimously to declare hayward a sanctuary city. state lawmakers are considering making california a sanctuary state. long before the vote took place, the city of hayward

welcome back, everyone. it's 4:53. we're getting our first look this morning at the bay area pastor accused of sexual assault. victor gomez arrested last week by menlo park police after several victims accused him of sexual assault. he bailed himself out, but there was an immigration hold on him. i.c.e. moved in and picked him up. he was the pastor at a church in
