>> and a frightening incidents at a busy east bay park. a young boy is recovering after a woman allegedly put methamphetamine in the boy's mouth. today in the bay continues right now. a very good wednesday morning to you. thanks much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. hopefully you got that coffee in hand, getting ready to get your day started. maybe your coffee is not too hot. you burned your tongue this morning. >> that's about right. >> lots of caffeine going on. >> and it starts out with a very nice weather, even though we're seeing clouds. it feels very nice. and it will be a comfortable day with some clearing. it won't be all bright and sunny, as we take a look at what you're seeing right now stepping out the door, the south bay at 55 degrees. then the peninsula, 56 degrees with some fog near the coast. we can see that fog on the san francisco camera, and also from the north bay, with temperatures there in the lower 50s. as we go into the day, we're going city the temperatures climbing into the upper 70s.

we'll talk about that. also, a look ahead to some rain in the forecast. that's coming up in about seven minutes mike says there's no good news for our car fire for highway 101. >> there is good news. different news as well. we'll give you two updates. first, no real surprises for the south bay or east bay or try valley. but we will talk about southbound 101. southbound, not north. that's why we saw the slowing. now, get off the roadway at candlestick, most of the vehicles involved in what was originallied a car fire, now it's a fender bender. no fire, good news. no major problems for that portion. the bay bridge toll plaza does have the metering lights on. and it's about 20 minutes to the toll plaza, and the tri-valley and castro valley y showing some slowing. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. >> we're following breaking political news this morning. president trump tweeting in the past hour that he will nominate a former justice department

official as fbi director. he said his choice was lawyer christopher wray, a man he calls of impeccable credentials. he represented chris christie during the bridgegate scandal. if confirms, he would replace james comey who was fired last month, and comey is set to testify about his firing before congress tomorrow. >> all new this morningering authorities in the east bay investigating a deadly hit and run that happened late last night. it happened along port chicago highway near lake view drive and bay point. chp says a man and his dog were both struck and killed. the victim is a white male about 40 years old. so far, there is no description of the kind of car that could have been involved. happening today, the woman accused of putting methamphetamine into a child's mouth in east bay park is due in court. >> this happened in the middle of the day, no less, at people's park near berkeley. that's where we find bob redell with the frightening account from the child's nanny, bob.

>> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. that suspect is due in court in a few hours from now at 9:00 in an oakland courtroom to enter a plea against charges that she drugged a child here at people's park in berkeley. law enforcement tells us the woman is accused, facing charges of attempted murder. she's a 36-year-old woman who apparently lives here in the park. people's park, if you're not familiar, is home to a number of homeless people. this past monday, a 2-year-old boy was here at the park with her. his nanny. a witness tells us he saw thomas force the child to take an illicit drug. >> the baby and the nanny were playing on the playground. and the lady walked up to the baby and stuck her finger in the mouth and gave the baby some methamphetami methamphetamine. >> the nanny frantically searched the boy's mouth, saw that it was empty. but still called uc berkeley police who arrested thomas and took her to a psychiatric facility.

police tell us en route, she admitted to putting the methamphetamine in the boy's mouth. the boy himself was taken to the hospital where police say it was confirmed he had in fact swallowed the drug. he is recovering. reporting live here in berkeley, bob redell, today in the bay. >> very frightening there. thank you, bob. at 6:04, following breaking news from iran. the death toll rising after twin attacks in the capital of tehran. gunmen, suicide bombers attacked the parliament and the shrine of the revolutionary leader killing at least 12 people and injured 42 others. isis is claiming responsibility for the attack this morning, marking the first time the sunni extremists have taken responsibility for an assault in iran. iran's state television reports the attackers were wearing women's attire and four of the attackers have been killed. new this morning, firefighters have contained a brush fire between livermore and tracey within the past 15 minutes, we have learned it was

60 acres that was burned. initial reports were five to ten. the fire broke out overnight near interstate 580. no word at this point on the cause of the fire. , heading to the bay area, one of the men facing criminal charges for the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire is soon going to be back in the county. max harris is being transported right now to the jail. derick almena is already in jail for this. his wife and lawyers will be holding a news conference on friday to talk about the case. almena, the master tenant and manager of the ghost ship warehouse was arrested on monday along with harris. their arrests come after a six-month-long investigation. >> 6:05 the fbi has been conducting exercises out on san francisco bay for weeks now. today's training is called operation sea sick. it's to prepare local law forcement on how to handle maritime terrorist attacks. it's a two-day event in alameda. starts this morning at 8:00. the training is focusing on

prepafredness recovery and response efforts. several agencies likeland pd and fire along with highland hospital are taking part in the exercise. >> no one really loves to clean up after somebody else's party, which is why san mateo leaders are putting an end to late night parties at specifically one peninsula beach. the mercury news reporting supervisors yesterday approved restrictions at a beach in half moon bay. they said too many late night beach parties have left heaps of trash behind, or certainly the people out there at the parties. the beach is now going to close at nightfall and the ban covers things like fires, alcohol, and littering. >> happening today, the warriors are cleveland getting ready for game three of the nba finals. if you aren't able to make the trip to cleveland, don't worry. >> we have parties planned here. pete suratos joining us live from oracle arena this morning with a viewing party you can check out tonight, and pete, that is the place to be here later. >> yeah, good morning to you,

sam and laura. this is the place to be if you still want to get that game day excitement, despite the game taking place in, game three of the nba finals between the warriors and cavs. you'll see plenty of watch parties in the bay area. one of the biggest ones will be behind me at oracle arena. the parking lot is open at 4:30 p.m. parking will cost about $10. doors open inside oracle at 5:00 p.m., where tickets will cost $20 a person. proceeds will go to the warriors community foundation. if you don't want to shell out money and want to catch the game for free, you can watch it in san francisco. it's going to be at the civic center plaza. a free event. the game will air on a big jumbotron. it gets packed quickly so it's first come first serve. i want to point out alcohol will not be permitted at that event. both locations will have the same setup for game four on friday. but tip-off for tonight's game is at 6:00 p.m. pete suratos for today in the

of that attack. ariana's concert in paris comes one day after a police officer was injured in an attack at notre dame cathedral in paris. tourists are back at the cathedral this morning, as are heavily armed police officers. a man with a hammer was shot by an officer yesterday. there are reports the man screamed, quote, this is for syria. american tourists in paris say they're not going to change their plans out of fear. >> what has happened all over the world, yes. but that didn't mean we stopped. we certainly had our plans well in place in february. and we wouldn't change. >> things had already happened before we made our plans. we wanted to go and weren't going to let that stop us. >> the attacker is in the hospital. we don't know his condition. investigators are trying to figure out if he was inspired by terror groups or acting alone. >> pretty alarming accusations against a bay area uber driver. he is accused of sexual battery against a passenger. police say that this man

sexually assaulted and battered a female passenger who had ordered a ride from oakland to moraga. this happened on may 26th. police were able to arrest becker based on information from the victim and also from moraga's traffic cameras. he was booked into jail, but he has since posted bail. police are still investigating the case, and they are asking for the public's help in piecing it together. >> google expanding in the south bay with offices planned for very close to the san jose train station. >> and their presence, that area is building quickly. >> i just in that part of town yesterday. there are new apartments and condos everywhere. the new google offices will be next to the train station, which will make it convenient for the young engineers who want to live in san francisco and work in the south bay. the business times google will occupy a million square feet in this new development. this as it plans a new mega headquarters in mountain view as well. financial magazine asked money

managers to name the most respected and least respected company in america in their opinion. san francisco's wells fargo went to the bottom of the pile below the cigarette companies. apple was on top. >> michelle lee has resigned her position as head of u.s. patent and trademarks office. she was appointed by former president obama, stayed at least on paper when president trump took over, but there had been confusion for weeks as to whether she was still there. the patent office had delisted her from the website weeks ago, but she officially resigned today. it says a lot we in silicon valley weren't sure for weeks if there was a director of the patent office. this becomes another position that's unfilled. a list put together by "the washington post" shows 431 major positions in the u.s. government have not been filled because nonys have been named. >> there's also the recently

added section. >> uber says it has hired this woman famously known as boz. boz saint james from apple, the outspoken marketing expert, will serve as uber's chief brand officer. she tells variety magazine she's well aware of the problems at uber and hopes to become an agent for change. she will have her work cut out for her. >> i would imagine. >> thank you very much. new video to show you. check out what is seemingly senseless random vandalism attack. a man kicks in a windshield as a woman is driving. didn't think twice about the possibility of a dashboard camera, but it captured all of this. from the car a woman leaving a parking lot in atlanta on monday. you get a good look at his face. there he is stomping on the windshield. she has no idea who the vandal is. she drove off scared but otherwise uned. she handed the video right over to police. >> people are strange sometimes. >> you just have to be rolling at all times so you can catch

people. >> don't hold it while you're driving. >> right. >> everything is documented these days. >> you're going to need your wind shield wipers. >> especially for tomorrow. we're going to see low visibility and fog this morning. as you get ready to head out, so a lot of issues in the next couple days, but don't worry, our weather is still going to be very nice. here's a look at three of our microclimates now. a mix of sun and clouds in the south bay. a live look outside at san jose. 55 degrees. and going across the san mateo bridge, for the peninsula, at times we have seen some patchy fog. and then we can see that definitely as we get a look at the san francisco camera over the golden gate bridge. you can't even see the top of the tower there. from the north bay, it's 50 degrees with patchy fog. here's a look at the high temperatures today. it will be a little cooler than it was yesterday, but still very nice. morgan hill up to 78 degrees. as we head over towards the east bay, 68 degrees in oakland.

78 degrees in livermore, and for the peninsula, 69 degrees in san mateo today. outer sunset will be up to 63. a little bit of some clearing there. and we'll see more clouds for the north bay and santa rosa up to 75 degrees. we have a large mass of clouds moving in with the late season storm system moving in. this bring us a chance of rain for tomorrow. but it will being mostly dry today. i want to show you the timeline. this starts out tomorrow morning at 6:30. we see some pockets of rain moving into santa rosa and spreading elsewhere across the north bay by 8:30. this is during your commute time. and then as we go through the day, the showers kind of lighten and fizzle out before moving into the south bay, which is typical this time of year. especially once the rain moves over the mountains. a lot of it dries up. and we'll still have that chance of rain as we might see the potential of getting at least our average amount of rain for the month of june all in one day, looking at san francisco.

we could have over a tenth of an inch of rain, and the forecast for thursday could be up to a quarter inch of rain. looking at temperatures that stay in the 60s over the next few days, and drying out for the weekend. inland areas will see the high temperatures in the upper 70s by sunday. and mike, you're tracking some slowing out of san francisco? >> yeah, for southbound 101. that's coming down past the earlier car fire or crash actually location. we'll talk about the south bay where there's a number of crashes, only one i'm really concerned about, and looking over here. once again, starting out of san francisco, southbound 101, getting over to candlestick, things moving better. we had a crash, lanes blocked, but then it started to clear. we have activity on the shoulder and it's a dis traction. getting over to san francisco via oakland or the golden gate bridge, a smooth, easy drive. the slowing starts for berkeley and the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza, which you would expect. the waze system, no major

we brought you the story on today in the bay. the palo alto unified school district discussed the curriculum at its meeting last night and now parents have the option to opt their children out of the program. under california's healthy youth act, all public school districts are required to provide sexual health instruction once in middle school and then again in high school. some concerned parents in the school district say the lessons are inappropriate for seventh graders. >> drinks with quite a view. macy's is considering a rooftop edition to its flagship store in new york city's harold square. that plan would add restaurants and green space to the top of the iconic building. i know this is going to shock you, but macy's said the idea is to encourage people to go through the store either on their way up or either on their way down. >> clever. very clever. >> it's 6:26. coming up next on today in the bay, cancer patient behind bars this morning. accused of trying to kill his doctors. the reason investigators say he

overdose and is now in critical condition. officers handcuffed a second man who was also in the room at the time. police say a woman at the scene suffered undisclosed injuries. they're not saying if the woman is under arrest. >> happening today, major changes could be coming to samtrans. the transit agency could decide to get rid of some routes. >> kris sanchez joining us to explain what kind of impact this could have on commuters. kris. >> good morning to you. there aren't a lot of people riding these three samtrans bus lines, but if they are cut tonight at the board meeting, the folks who would feel the biggest impact are students and also parents. now, route 11 is one of those three routes that serves two schools in daly city. thomas edison elementary and a middle school. route 43, serves the city hall library, two high schools and a community center, and route 89

>> cancer patient authorities say was out for revenge is under arrest and facing attempted murder charges. investigators say 58-year-old yu chen was caught before he could carry out a plan where he wanted to kill his bay area based doctors. officers arrested him last week in san jose as he was driving from his home in the central valley. the plot unraveled when vidahlia police say they fount notes at the suspect's house telling his family he planned to kill the doctors who he blamed for his deteriorating health. >> we feel pretty confident of what his intent was and if we hadn't been able to in a sort of time sensitive way coordinate our efforts that we would be investigating at least one homicide if not multiple homicides. >> police did an incredible job here. and more details, they say that chen was with loaded guns and a mask when they apprehended him along with a list of the doctors' addresses. >> new details this morning. the mother suspected of abandoning her 5-year-old

daughter near ocean beach has now surrendered to police. police say the woman shoved the little girl out of a stopped car on monday night. then drove off with her-year-old son. police say the girl is from ark arb. paraices saw what happened and they took her into safety. parents at ocean beach were grateful she was alive. >> with them being curious, they're going to go close to the water. so luckily there were people onhand and they saved the little. >> police are now in touch with the father of the little girl after he called a phone that she had. as for the woman, she's now in police custody and both of her children are in protective custody. >> 6:35 on your wednesday morning, a warning for folks who like to take their dog for a walk near golden gate park. wh watch out for coyotes. there are reports of coyotes acting aggressively to at least two dogs. that's the map of the presidio. this is pupping season, which

usually runs in the summer. there's a known den in the area and the adults are most likely protecting their young. experts say to always be aware of your surroundings when you're out walking. >> the city of san jose is tackling gang activity and youth violence through a series of town hall meeting. the first is tonight at 6:00. several city leaders including mayor sam liccardo will be there. also several more town halls throughout the month. >> more new this morning. voters in santa rosa have officially shot down an effort to try to enact a new rent control law in the city. measure c would have limited annual rent increases to no more than 3%. that sprang up from a referendum that followed a measure approved by supervisors last summer. supervisors put it in motion, but the measure lost by about five points. >> today, vta is expected to give an update on work done to complete silicon valley's extension. they installed and tested new

software in preparation for the new extension to connect south fremont to the silicon valley. >> and let's look at silicon valley and the rest of the bay area. we're looking at a smooth flow of traffic. silicon valley has the area where we have seen the most slowing developing in the last half hour. north 101, from right about here, you vethe landing area for sjp, a little slowing north of there. the crash there still, chp says everything is on the shoulder, but that's enough distraction and the build as well for northbound 101 to cause more slowing for the bay shore freeway, and a little build at capital expressway for 101 and 87. 85 shows a build. typical pattern throughout the south bay. we'll move you up towards san francisco, getting out of the city, southbound 101, which still slows past the scene of an earlier crash, just around candlestick. we still have chp vehicles on the shoulder. everyone slows down extra behavi behavior past chp. >> never.

sunday. so the san mateo county fair will be kicking off on this, starts out with a parade. you're looking for something to do with the kids now that they may be out of school. it will be in the low 60s during the morning, during the parade, and a few clouds as we go into the afternoon. but looking at the bright sunshine, brings the sunblock and sunglasses too, and on sunday, you may want to wrap up the weekend with jazz festival happening in healdsburg. it's been ongoing, but the last day will be on sunday. our temperatures will be in the low 70s throughout the evening, and then dropping back into the lower 60s. so very comfortable there. here's a live look outside at squaw valley. if you're planning to hop in the car and drive there this weekend, it's going to be very cool, a chance of rain on friday. and that may slow you down just a bit. just allow some extra time to get there. our snow pack still at 205% of normal and it stays cool throughout the weekend. bring a coat and we'll see some sunshine by the end of the weekend.

rain and i'll have more on that coming up at about 6:49. and your drive times for the south bay, like, we had more slowing for 101 and 87. let me show you how this is affecting your drive and let me share some information we just got. >> mike, kari, thank you very much. >> 6:44 right now. live pictures from people's park in berkeley where police say that a woman walked up and gave a 2-year-old boy meth. the toddler was playing in the park monday afternoon when a woman, a stranger, walked and put something in his mouth. the boy's nanny saw what was happening, quickly checked the mouth but nothing was in there. she then called police and doctors confirmed the toddler was given meth and he's recovering right now at the hospital. the waum was arrested for attempted homicide. >> it's quarter to 7:00. continuing coverage of the bill cosby trial now under way. more emotional testimony expected today. a day after the woman accusing the comedian of sexual assault finally took the stand.

andrea constand told the jury she was, quote, humiliated, after cosby gave her pills and sexually assaulted her at home in 2004. the defense tried to highlight inconsistencies between her testimony, what she told police when she reported the alleged assault a year later. though dozens of women have accused the comedian of sexual misconduct, this is the only complaint that has resulted in criminal charges. cosby has repeatedly denied all allegations of sexual misconduct. hayward has reportedly become the bay area's latest jurisdiction to adopt sank we city policies to protect undocumented immigrants. the east bay times reporting late last night, council members voting unanimously to declare hayward a sanctuary city, meaning it will not assist federal agents or i.c.e. agents in enforcing immigration laws. state lawmakers are also considering making california a sanctuary state. long before the vote took place, the city of hayward ignited outrage with a tweet that was

meant to promote night's meeting. it uses a poorly crafted pun to generate interest. let's tacobout it. many called it inappropriate and culturally inoffensive because the meeting is focused on immigrants, many of whom are from mexico. city leaders did some relief here. >> we're glad that the mayor and the council repudiate those expressions of hatred against immigrants. >> the city's social media team did end up issuing a series of follow-up apology tweets as well. >> a woman pepper sprays during protests at uc berkeley against milo yiannopoulos is suing uc regents, the city of berkeley, and many others. she was a fan of milo. she planned to attend his february 1st speech at cal but it was kanlstleed.

that's an accusation serious enough it could put the president's office in jeopardy. all three major networks are planning to cut into regular programming tomorrow. something that has only happened a few times before, including the anita hill hearings and watergate. comey, of course, fired after the president decided the investigation by the fbi was in the president's words, made up. that's his explanation. sources tell nbc comey will not exitly accuse the president of obstruction, but his testimony may show evidence of that. we do expect comey will deny he ever told the president that he was not under investigation. president trump claims comey told him three separate times. >> i said if it's possible, will you let me know am i under investigation. he said you are not under investigation. >> earlier this morning, the president announced he would nominate christopher wray as the next head of the fbi. wray has worked as an assistant attorney general in the past.

he was part of the team that prosecuted enron as well. he's currently in privatet practice. he was chris christie's privatet attorney during the bridgegate investigation. >> there's pretty big names talking to the senate today, including the man at the center of the comey firing, assistant attorney general rod rosenstein. the testimony is supposed to be about whether or not congress should extend eavesdropping laws but it's likely senators will stick to that today. also testifying today, the director of national intelligence, dan coats. national security agency director michael rogers, and acting director of the fbi, andrew mccabe. how bad might it get? well, the former dni, head of intelligence, james clapper, just spoke to an australian press club a short time ago. he says what we're looking at today is far worse than what we saw with the nixon administration. >> i have to say, though, i think, compare the two, that

sleeves and pants, as it will be comfortable. a little cool to start, but then we'll be back to some shorts weather next week. just enjoy that. we're also tracking a chance of rain in the forecast. it holds off for today, but then starts to move into the north bay early tomorrow morning. we're already seeing those clouds starting to stretch out ahead of this cold front. and it's really late in the season and looks to bring us a fairly good amount of rain. let's look at the timeline here because as we start out early tomorrow morning, this may impact your commute. starting out at 6:30, moving into sonoma, napa county, moving into san francisco. as many people are going to being outside in line for those outside lands tickets. we will see the rain kind of fizzling out as we go through the day and moving into the south bay by afternoon. looking at the potential of getting the possibility of our average amount of rainfall all in one day, up to a tenth of an inch. for san francisco, looking at the potential of getting about a

quarter inch of rain there. the rest of the forecast, all dry temperatures reaching into the mid 60s. morning clouds, afternoon sun, and showers also in the forecast on thursday. the weekend, looking nice. highs in the 70s. and mike starts us out with some delays out of san francisco. >> that right. we know we have traffic flowing onto the bay bridge and across from the golden gate bridge, but in san francisco, as we take a wide look, don't worry, i'll get to the south bay slowing in a second. i want to make sure you know about this slowing, south 101 from 280 all the way down to harny. crash activity from an old crash there, but still, chp on the shoulder causing distraction and more slowing, adding another five to ten minutes as you're driving down from san francisco in toward the peninsula area. let's look waze and show you the backup in the south bay. you saw the slowing for northbound 101 especially pronounced because of a crash near fair oaks. that's an issue, lawrence express is where we have the crash. waze says use 280 around that scene. we team member nasa fire dog on

it happened late last night along port chicago highway near lake view drive and bay point. chp says a man and his dog were both struck and killed. the victim is a white male roughly 40 years old. at this point, no description of the kind of car that could be involved. >> live look at samtrans headquarters where peninsula transportation leaders are scheduled to vote later today on a big shakeup to bus service. three low performing lines are on the chopping block. the agency says each line typically averages just five riders per trip and other routes cover much of the same terrain. today's meeting is scheduled to start at 2:00 this afternoon. >> could beat the long lines to get into this event. a live look at oracle arena. the ws players aren't going to be there, but when game three goes off tonight, it's going to be front and center for warriors fans watching on the tv screen. oracle is still hosting a viewing party so you can watch the whole thing on a jumbotron.
