a live look outside at san jose... just one place expecting some wet weather later today. the rain returning to the bay area. taking a live look outside over san jose, just one place expecting wet weather for many folks. it will come down during that morning commute but we have you covered. you're up early with us, today in the bay starts right now. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. you got us covered. does that mean you have your umbrella? you're ready to walk outside with us. >> if i have to. >> i'll take it. i think my arm extends the highest. we are going to have to be ready for wet weather. >> we are going to need to grab the umbrella. before you head out the door, we are seeing showers moving into the north bay and then it will be making its way to the south. i want to show you the radar, the way it looks right now, pockets of heavy rain starting

to move in to most of sonoma, napa and marin county right now. as we go into the rest of the morning, we'll see this moving into the rest of the bay area. already starting to approach some heavy rain starting to approach santa rosa. as we get a closer look we can see yellows and reds indicating heavier downpours. and look at san francisco, rain is move in there, too. so we'll talk about what to expect the rest of the day. mike, now you're tracking a crash in concord? we are, and we're watching the effects of the light rain, even though it's been a while for the rain to hit you're going to have that grease and the oil on the roadways will be a much more sensitive situation. south bay along the peninsula an easy flow of traffic. concord, we followed this crash northbound 242 at 680. slowing just showed up here, 680 at highway 4. there's construction in the area so i'll check to make sure we don't have any long-standing there but this green highlighted

she faces felony child abuse charges for allegedly placing drugs in the mouth of a toddler who was playing at people's park in berkeley on monday. according to court documents, thomas told police it was a tootsie roll but later admitted it was methamphetamine. we've learned thomas is no stranger to police. court records she's been arrested or cited more than 20 times since '02. frightening moments at a north bay supermarket. police say a man is behind bars accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year-old girl. police arrested this man, james trotta, after he allegedly accost it had girl tuesday night. it happened at the whole foods market in mill valley about a half a mile away from mcguire elementary school. investigators say trotta, a homeless man, touched the teenager's arm and gropeder in the store. the girl was able to break free, get to her father who confronted him. with the help of a witness, the victim's father tried to detain

strada until police could arrive but he took off. he faces sexual battery charges. a man is in critical condition after gunfire erupted inside of an east by a gas station. police say somebody walked into this chevron on washington avenue in san leandro and pulled out a gun on the clerk. the clerk was cooperating when the robber shot the clerk anyway. the gas station is taking extra security precautions as a result. the store is open but the door is locked and employees are offering window service only. it's 4:36 right now. big layoffs at yahoo! the number ofir jobs as the merger with aol looms. plus, honda's ceo promising a much easier morning commute. when he believes drivers will be able to sleep while on the road. good morning, i'm landon dowdy live at cnbc headquarters. wall street will try to build on yesterday's small gains as the markets broke a two-day losing streak. financial stocks leading the way higher, but that was offset by the energy sector. oil prices fell sharply following a government report showing a bigger-than-expected rise in u.s. supplies last week. investors will likely focus on three big events today -- the uk election, a meeting by the european central bank and, of course, the senate hearing with former fbi director james comey. the dow rising 37 points to 2 21173, the nasdaq up 22 to 6297.

will vote on the company selling its internet business to verizon which plans to merge it with aol. reports say after the deal closes, verizon will likely cut up to 1,000 jobs from the combined company or about 20% of the work force. the move here is not entirely unexpected as there is some overlap between yahoo! and aol. and amazon is expanding its lending program to small businesses in a direct challenge to banks. since launching the program six years ago, amazon has loaned about $3 billion to more than 20,000 businesses who sell products on its site. the third-party sellers say amazon will store, package and ship merchandise. >> unbelievable, now it's a financial institution. what can they not do? 4:40, tesla, gm, now honda jumping into the self-driving race for auto makers. honda ceo says the company is

watch party and i believe it's already sold out for friday at oracle arena in oakland. >> when you get outplayed all game and you come back and win, you can put club strobe lights, that's fine. >> never give up. >> the players might have them outside their homes. >> business in the front and party in the back. >> always. >> don't forget the warriors umbrella before you head out. we are going to see rain moving through parts of the bay area. it seems like it's been so long since we've had a talk about that. here's a live look at san rafael. the roads are wet. this is where the rain is coming down. heading into san francisco, we're seeing those showers. the micro climates, we start out clear and dry in the south bay, 60 degrees and 61 in the peninsula. a few clouds in the tri-valley. upper 50s to low 60s to start out and the rain already starting to move into san francisco so as you're about to head out the door you're looking out the window getting ready for the day, we've already mentioned, don't forget the umbrella. you might want to wear rain

boots or shoes you don't mind getting wet because it's been quite a while since we've had to deal with this weather but it's moving in as we speak. here's the tray darr right now. we see showers, pockets of them, heavy rain. it's moving into sonoma county, that will bring times of rain and slippery road conditions as well as we go through the next several hours. and then as we look at san francisco, the rain starting to move in. quite light at this point and also moving over toward berkeley and parts of the east bay will start to see more of this rain as some of the showers moving in to orinda and approaching oakland as it continues on its track from north to south. so this is what we'll see over the next couple of hours. rain, especially for the north bay, then we see it in san francisco moving over toward walnut creek within the next couple of hours. and then as we go through the main morning commute we'll start to see more of that wet weather moving in through the peninsula as well as the east bay. we may not see in the san jose until later on this morning,

early afternoon, and by then a lot of the rain will have lost its punch. so we're not expecting much in the way of accumulation there but some of the north bay will have the potential of getting at least a quarter of an inch of rain. then temperatures over the next several days will stay in the low 60s for san francisco, more clouds in the mix for the weekend but still looking very nice, highs in the low 70s for the inland valleys, low 80s next week. you can see higher temperatures start to go up after this late-season rain today and, mike, you're saying there's a fire reported in san jose? >> there is, kari. sometimes it's an alarming situation with fire on the roadside. this is in the bushes just off of highway 87. sounds like smoke is mostly reported by a couple drivers and it sounds like everything is well under control but that's what the activity is you'll see north from capital to the curtner. still moving well down here.

bike in unincorporated hayward not far from city hall. murphy attended hayward high school. the alameda county sheriff's office announced a new $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. murphy's own family is offering a $25,000 reward. the dmv says a san francisco man applied for dozens of disabled parking placards by forging a dra doctor's signatur. montana lei is facing felony charges. he applied for the placards 34 times registered to his home but issued to different people. he faces up to four years in prison. the dmv stepped up on its efforts to crack down on disabled placard fonts. there's a new push for better protections when it comes to the tragedy of children's death in hot cars. u.s. lawmakers were joined by safety advocates as new legislation calls for all vehicles to be equipped with a new alert system. it's technology that would

of the roof inside this home. this is the view from outside, firefighters on top of the roof as that fire rages on, looks like it's smoldering there. it happened yesterday morning at a home on 59th street near martin luther king way. firefighters suspect an appliance started the fire. all new this morning, the coast guard yesterday assist ago sailor whose boat struck a reef near the golden gate bridge and started taking on water. these photos are from responding crew members. minutes after this happened, the team arrived, they helped to pump the water out from the boat which was safely towed to the marina in sausalito. when it comes to car thefts, northern california has some of the highest rates anywhere. the new annual vehicle hot spots report is out from the national insurance crime bureau. bakers field and modesto ranked third and fourth nationally in theft. merced came in seventh in the central valley. metro area including san francisco, oakland and hayward ranked eighth while san jose

came in 19th. if you're wondering, albuquerque, new mexico, ranked first. >> interesting. i would like to see car break-ins and window break-ins. that seems like a rite of passage around here. the university of california has hired a law firm and a former state supreme court justice to investigate whether or not there was interference at the recent state audit. you might recall the audit discovered the university president's office failed to disclose hundreds of millions of dollars. "the mercury news" shows some campuses changed their responses to a confidential survey about how the president's office operates. changes were made after campuses spoke with officials from the office being investigated. the university of california is paying $210,000 for the independent investigation. now to some california state university news. it turns out just 21% of students who enrolled in 2012 graduated in four years. a lot less than the system would like. "the mercury news" reports the number is up from 19% the
