deadly ghost ship fire appeared in court today. derick almena faces 36 counts involuntarymanslaughter. jody mai hernandez is live with story. >> reporter: that's right, and we learned that max harris, the second man charged in that deadly fire just arrived here to the jail from los angeles. and he is being booked as we speak. meanwhile the lease holder of the ghost ship warehouse appeared in court today. and some of the victims' families made sure that they were there to see him. >> i wanted to see his expression, see if he had any remorse. >> reporter: the parents of a victim came to see for themselves one of the men prosecutors say is responsible for last december he'd deadly fire. derick almena appeared in court for the first time.

>> are this case is one of the most profound tragedies to strike the bay area in living memory. >> reporter: almena's attorney da calls the charges a miscarriage of justice. >> despite the strong emotion, we don't feel that the public good will be served by prosecuting our client. >> a lot of emotion. >> reporter: and this victim's parents say seeing the mansecuo trap was tough. >> i think what he said was nonsense. >> reporter: almena will appear in court with max harris next week. again, we just learned that harris just arrived here to the jail. he is the man investigators say was the creative director of the ghost ship and helped almena

collect rent. he is expected to be in court sometime next i hernandez, nbc a news. two fires in the same building have been ruled as arson. a six figure reward is being offered to help find the suspect. the department complex burned for the second time last month. today agents and police officers say arson is the cause. and they released photographs of someone they believe may have started the fire. fire destroyed the housing but the city says they will rebuild. >> we believe we can make ourselves in to a more liveable city by growing our population. and this won't call into question our overall direction of the city. >> the atf himself says the previous fire at that same building last july with was also arson. but there is no suspect for that fire. it's offering a $50,000 reward for information on the fireds an

bay area news. concerns about a possible fire bug after at least six small fires all in the same neighborhood just east of willow g glenn. and now the effort to catch the says pe suspect. >> reporter: this fire called in about later in the morning and if about it is related, it would make it 1e6it seven fires in ei hour in the same neighborhood. this is the largest of the seven, a liquor story in the washington district. >> we don't know anything at this point. they are all open investigations. >> reporter: the owner got a phone call just before 5:00 this morning saying that his building was on fire. >> abofirst time in my life and don't know why twhoewhoever did. >> reporter: officially there were six smallover nig overnigh

roughly within a half mile of each other including this twon that charred a car and this dumpster fire. >> i wake up and it was right there. bruh i didn't habut i didn't ha what was going on. >> 24r is always a concern when you have simultaneous fires. >> reporter: and later this morning, we spotted firefighters mopping up the seventh fire, four blocks from the dumpster fire. and investigators are still trying to determine if it is related to the others. >> it is kra. i don't thinks the normal person would do something like that. >> reporter: they will be looking at surveillance video from several of the fire scenes for evidence. arson investigators are asking anyone who lives east of willow glen to see if perhaps they may have captured the cullle pretty.

dami damian, nbc bay area news. and very interesting drive. it was raining in june. >> yeah, about a quarter of an inch which is near record rainfall for parts of the bay area. a lot of us want to get into the sunny dry period. but even a chance this upcoming weekend. and with the most recent rainfall, this is extraordinary. how well we're doing for the water year. of course the heaviest rains come in january, february and march. but the totals to date now for the water year, up to 60.32 inches in santa rosa, that is an all-time record for rainfall in santa rose. san francisco at 32.33. and san jose has had just over 18 inches. in temps of the wet weather right now, we are starting to

see things dry out. but tomorrow morning we are expecting sunshine to build back in. 55 for the tri-valley. peninsula, 57 #. a little bit of drizzle for the coast. and as we get a look at the east bay, we'll have overcast and 57. but at least partly cloudy sky there to start and 56 in the north bay. by the afternoon on your friday forecast, everyone gets the sunshine building back in, temperatures will warm up. and this will bring us to 70 in cupertino, 75 in gilroy. east bay also a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. 66 in oakland and then a warmer 74 here in concord. 71 in palo alto. san francisco remains in the 60s right down towards the mission. and in the north bay, 75 in

napa. so tomorrow, definitely looks sunnier for us as we head throughout the day. it will be that classic june weather that you have been kind of waiting for now that we have the rainfall out of wait. but don't put the umbrellas away just yet. i want to let you know about a change in the weekend forecast. not a big storm system, but we are looking at a slight chance of wet weather in san francisco. by 10:00 p.m., a chance of maybe some showers developing. and then on sunday, a slight chance of some scattered rainfall. really on sunday i don't expect anything at this point, but models are trying to bring something in. and throughout next week, we'll have the sun return and temps in the 60s. for the inland valleys, a chance on saturday and slight risk as we head into the afternoon on sunday. really the bottom line, i wouldn't cancel any plans over it. you may just get a little bit on the windshield and it's like that activity when somebody in front of you in the car is

activists. ===take vo=== for a couple years now, the bay area has welcomed dogs rescued from asian kennels. the humane society has been actively involved in working to end the farming of dogs for th the bay area has rescued dogs rescued. and they are working to end the farming of dogs for their meat. and chinese americans in the bay area have formed a group to assume those in china work to go take domestic animals off the table. a prominent beach area in san francisco continues to slowly erode and now city leaders want to take steps to make sure that stops. we're talking about ocean beach. the city wants to close part of the great highway.
