temperatures to start. but it's going to be a hot one reaching into the triple digits, napa 101, concord 105, livermore 106, and morgan hills up to 101 today while san francisco will be in the upper 70s. we'll talk more about this and where we have the excessive heat warnings coming up. mike's watching flares for now. >> yeah. flares over here in berkeley. we had one left -- no, looks like it just about burned out so east about 80, completely clear of all the earlier activity from the crash and westbound 80, glou, coming down through berkeley toward the bay bridge, good volume, no probz lemtz. the last of the flares burns out, i'll take away that hazardous sim balance. looking here toward another hazard southbound 880 at the 238 connecter reports of a truck over on the shoulder. it's a fuel leak. someone has to clean that up there's no problems for the drains so it's not an environmental issue but they have to make sure it's safe for

transporpt. the west rest of bay moves well. we have another crash showing up on the report we'll get more and get it to you. >> we do have breaking news in brentwood this morning. police are on the scene of a deadly double shooting there. >> live off of bir of street in brentwood with what we know so far. clearly an active scene br behind you and how are police investigating this? >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. that double shooting taking place several hours ago. we're still an active scene on the 200 block here. we'll stay on the scene. you can see the sheriff's office as well as brentwood police are processing this scene as we speak but here's what we know. according to brentwood police the shooting took place just after 11:00 p.m. then when police got to the scene, they say two males were suffering from gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead on the scene. being told that the shooter was a resident in this area and is currently in custody being

questioned by police, but police are saying at this time that that shooter was unharmed during the shooting. and let's take you guys back out to the scene. what you're looking here at the 200 block of birch street following that shoot, they say it does not appear to be a random shooting and the area is secure. they don't think there's a public threat. of course we'll continue to monitor the scene and bring you another update at the top of the next hour. >> a lot going listen to. thank you very much, pete. one person being questioned. in the meantime, live pictures right now, this is from san jose and the heat proving to be deadly in the south bay. assistant clara's county coroner says two people have died due to heat-related illnesses. >> a third death is under investigation. they say she was out gardening when she died. her neighbors say she was always working outside. >> we were always surprised because she was always out in the morning waving and sweeping

of tasers. this is sfolg the shooting death of mario wood back in 2015. san francisco police, the only major city force in the country without tasers. is it free speech or is it a civil rights violation? the expulsion of an east bay high school student over racist social media posts now appears to be headed toward a legal showdown. last night they voted to expel one student. they were tied to a social media account and it sparked outrage in that community. nine studentened up getting suspended. the attorney representing the expelled student says the first amendment allows people to post whatever they want on their pages. >> the school is trying to control what its students think, say, do privately among friends away from school. >> the family right now is planning to review the district's findings before setting that into motion. they argue that the postings were private and not floent

4:45, welcome to thursday. >> welcome to thursday, welcome to hot day, the heat. the hottest day of the week. it will start early. >> yeah. it's already starting out this morning you step out and it feels really stuffy outside and warm. so this is just setting the stage for what will be a very hot day as we take a live look outside at san hoe say as we are seeing all clear skies things ever looking good now and whatever have you do you want to make sure you knock out early. here's a look at those high temperatures for this afternoon. look at gilroy up to 102 degrees today. ma pete toe's 94 and loss gat toes at 100 degrees. antioch 107 there, hayward 91 degrees and we'll also see those temperatures along the coast, half moon bay at 67 degrees well san mateo will be at 87 degrees. san francisco and the embark dare row 84 degrees. we do keep some nice weather in

san francisco while the inland valleys will really be hot. afternoon. the seven-day forecast is at the bottom of the screen. you can see the trend of those temperatures going down as we head into next week. as you're getting up early this morning and we are looking at the temperature trend, here's how you make flanz plans for the day based on the temperatures we will see the unbearable heat kicking in right around noon as we reach into the 90s heading up into the upper 90s. it will abe great day to head to the beach so as you're getting dressed make sure you pack the swimsuit and sandals. and fls you have to work it's a day to have a hat or something to give a little shade and don't forget the sun glasses. as we go into the next several days we will have some much cooler weather and you can already make that cooler weather happen today at half moon bay. it's going to start out in the mid-50s, no morning fogz fog, and then highs in the lower 70s

there. this hot dome of high pressure breaks down in the weekend and that allows to us cool down by ten degrees in some spots. but then in the inland areas a more dramatic drop in temperatures from 10 fen today to 80 degrees by wednesday of next week. and, of course, it will feel so much nicer as we head back to some more seasonable temperature for this time of year. as we head over to mike, you now have a crash in fremont. i do. we've been tracking this one northbound. very calm easy drive as you would imagine at 4:47 on this thursday. we're look at northbound 880, thorn son avenue, that's where there's a report of a crash and the car might have spun around. it sounds like everything's off to the right shoulder that will abe distraction as chp arrives we don't see any slowing. up toward the done barton bridge.qi utz continue to trackd that disabled truck with a small fuel leak over on the shoulder right at the 238 interchange, no

tax measure would add a funding stream to the system. a scathing report exposes mayor libby schaff and former police chief shawn went. the report suggests they delayed and mishandled last year's sex scandal involving two dozen police officers and a teen able girl. a court-appointed team says the formaler police chief delayed the investigation for months after finding out several of his officers had sex with a teen abler. it also said that city officials failed to properly follow up on the case. the police chief is vowing to make change. for all the headlines the warriors made winning that nba championship, don't expect to hear much from them tonight during the nba draft. >> you don't get a championship team unless you have a lot of talented veterans, so the warriors don't even have a pick in this year's draft. but do they need the pick? let's be honest here. last year they had two of them and their first rounder was used on a big man jones, he couldn't

the road and a spider on our web cam here. this is a bay bridge toll plaza cam. today say spare the air alert, keep that in mind when you head out. be kwar full out there. a fiery chain reaction crash. did you see that there? it all happened on the southern california freeway. it is route 14 san clarita. the motorcyclist that you saw there actually kicked the side of a car that cut him off. the driver of the car loses control, veers into the other lane eventually causing the crash. there you can see it again. as a result, one car that flipped, the driver went to the hospital, you there see that one right there. no word on their condition. the motorcyclist took off. chp is looking for him this morning. >> you're talking about road safety and don't text and drive, that's the idea here, asupering that's the rule. now police have a way to track if you do. look at this new tool, it's called the text ooidser. police plug is right into your phone to see if you're telling the truth about whether or not
