it )s monday morning.. as we take a live look outside from the bay bridge it is monday morning, and as we take a live look outside from the bay bridge we see a little bit of haze there in the distance, cooler temperatures on tap, and then a couple snafus on the roadway. first the good news. thanks for joining us. i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm sam brock. that was not the good news. i think you mentioned there was a port-a-potty in the middle of the road. >> two big crashes so i'm concerned about the folks involved there. >> you mentioned something that would have been unimaginable last week. being outside for lunch. >> i know. it was really hot last week. and this weekend starting to come down.

nice and comfortable weather. that's the way we start out the workweek with some 70s and 80s inland and 60s by the coast. as you step out the door now we are feeling some mild weather, a few more clouds rolling by. maybe some long sleeves immediated. up to 62. it still will feel like summer. we'll be a couple degrees cooler in some spots than where we should be for this time of year. i'll talk more about that. a look ahead to the rest of the week in about seven minutes. mike now is track iing those tw crashes. >> fremont and san jose. so listen up, folks, i did get updates on how much treatment is necessary. north 101, now the big slowing you see here at blossom hill and north of there may be the result of a traffic break. a car crashed into a big rig trailer and is underneath there. no one -- no major injuries and

it doesn't sound like much of a minor injury there but it is a big deal. they have to close down the slow lane and a traffic break to clear them apart from one another. that's in san jose. in fremont, you see that side moves well. the southbound side your commute is distraction. a car flipped over, back onto its wheels. again, it doesn't sound like any major injuries but there are three or four chp crews on scene and debris is being cleared the northbound side distracting the southbound side. the good news is no major injuries but there is slowing. back to you. >> very fortunate no one was hurt. 5:02. it is a video everyone will be talking about today. a fight breaks out. several people are detained. a police officer who rushed in to help was hurt. . >> pete suratos is live. do we know what happened here? >> reporter: good morning to you, chris and sam. police are investigating what

may have caused this massive brawl at the popular westfield mall in downtown san francisco but the pictures and video of what happened are making their round on social media. a clip of one of those videos had to be some scary moments for the shoppers last night at the mall. police running up the escalators to diffuse this fight. they called police to step in as normal security more than likely wasn't able to handle the situation. this brawl started inside of the westfield mall around 7:00 p.m. police say some folks ride to run away from cops. it took about 30 officers to respond to the fight. here is sfpd explaining how officers tried to maintain some control of the situation. >> it did complicate matters and that's why we did have to try to stop the situation as soon as possible.

that's why you see us moving to several levels to stop and detain these individuals involved in the incident. >> reporter: one officer did suffer minor injuries and one person arrested. still no word what caused the fight. it caused the mall to close earlier than usual. pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you, pete. new this morning a man is hospitalized after he was shot in a porsche just off highway 101 in san francisco. police say shots were fired around 10:00 last night. at the bottom of the cesar chavez off ramp at northbound 101. the driver of the porsche lost control of that suv and then crashed into a power pole.

the victim was taken to the hospital with a gun shot wound to the chest. happening right now rescue crews are searching for a san francisco father who vanished after saving his daughter from drowning in the delta. this happened sunday afternoon in the state park. witnesses say that a 40-year-old man and his 5-year-old daughter were kayaking when the kayak flipped and they both went under water. the father surfaced with his daughter and a person on a boat was able to pull them to safety. then the dad slipped back under water and there has been no sign of him since then. investigators say neither were wearing life jackets. this is the cleanup after the weekend's pride festivities in san francisco. here is what it looked like a few hours ago at civic center and city hall. hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets to celebrate. this morning we hope to get a better number, a better idea how many people turned out for this year's pride festivities as friends, families and a

community festooned in the colors of the rainbow celebrated the pride of san francisco's lgbtq community, still voices of a resistance movement close behind. >> diversity is our strength. we have a lot of work ahead of us. i am so proud of this city. >> mayor ed lee there and while san francisco went on with its traditional gay pride parade you might remember there was not a pride parade in l.a. this year because an anti-hate rally was held in its place. a live look at mountain view city hall where later today you'll be abling to weigh in on how much you want to pay. they want riders to ride in on a plan that would increase zone fares by 25 cents starting in october. monthly rates would go up from $55 to $82.50. and by january of 2018 go fares would increase by 50%. a meeting is skcheduled for 6:0

tonight at mountain view city hall. developing in southern california late last night evacuation orders were lifted for people living near a large brush fire there. that fire yesterday forced closures and evacuations in santa clarita. flames burned about 800 acres. and yesterday it temporarily forced the closure of highway 14. firefighters say this fire started after a vehicle hit a tree. >> plenty of fire in california, flooding at the same time. here is video posted to twitter. zoom in there and see about 90 homes under an evacuation order. some folks have been allowed to go back and inspect the damage. the air guard dropped sandbags.

the levee made the situation worse. rivers across the state right now are seeing record run-off because of all the snow in the mountains that's melting. >> the water is fast. and the temperatures have been warm there, too. we are going to have nice weather cooling down from the high heat we had last week. and looking at what we're expect ing for today, 61 degrees now heading up to 78 degrees and looking at what to expect as we go into the rest of the next several days. the rest of the week will will be slightly warmer but not outrageous. so we are looking at high temperatures that will start out in the upper 70s today, but then continue to warm as we go through the week. i'll have more on that coming up in about three minutes. mike starts out with a crash in fremont. >> one of the two we're cracking, kari. everything else moves well but

chp does say southbound where the crash does have debris across the lanes. it was southbound. the distraction and all of the activity there blocking traffic. there may be traffic breaks on the debris of the shoulder at mission causing a problem coming over and north 101 that crash blocks a slow lane and another traffic break scheduled trying to clear vehicles and debris from the roadway there. no major injuries for either of those unexpectedly show but very pleasant over to the bay bridge. that's the good news. back to you. >> we like good news, thank you, mike. we are closely watching washington, d.c., as republican senators push their new health care bill. the new details we could be learning. and high tech dealing with yet another scandal brewing. the amazing ending to what could

we're coming up on 5:13. a lot of clouds hanging over the south bay this morning. it'll take a while before it clears out. we are going to have a nice afternoon. i want to show you the temperatures for nearby los gatos as temperatures will be at 63 degrees at 9:00 and then in the low 70s at lunch time. upper 70s as we go through the day. our normal high temperature is 81 degrees. very close. our temperatures warm up this week coming up in five minutes. san jose has called a sig alert. that means they think it will take at least 30 minutes to clear this crash. ts sayr in fremont coming up. president donald trump and republicans will get back to work today to try to pass the senate version of health care reform this week. democrats say it will it will not fix health care problems, only make them worse. >> edward lawrence joins us live

from washington. many people from both sides are asking to delay the vote until they can learn more about it. good morning. >> reporter: exactly, sam and kris. this is going to be an uphill battle today and this week. so far this morning five republican senators are saying that they cannot vote for this bill the way it's fashioned. republicans will have to walk a fine line to get the senate health care bill to pass. too many changes and hard line conservatives will not support it. not enough changes and nspublican senators against the bill will not come onboard. >> i know that the senate leadership and the president is talking with folks. >> reporter: president donald trump says he's fully behind the senate's plan. >> i want to see a bill with heart. health care is a very complicated subject. >> you can't pay over $800 billion out of the medicaid program and not expect it's going to have an impact on a

rural nursing home. >> reporter: with the senate majority leader saying he wants a vote this week. other senators say the process is moving too fast. >> i don't have the feedback from constituencies who will not have had enough time to review the senate bill. we should not be voting on this next week. >> reporter: senator bernie sanders says democrats would compromise if republicans would ask. >> there's no way this bill should be passed this week. >> reporter: the president says no democrat would vote for any republican-led bill especially one overhauling health care. >> we'll see what kind of bartering goes down this week. 5:15 right now. muslims around the world celebrating the end of the month long fast for ramadan. dan...is white house this year is breaking ranks in mark iing e occasion. the white house decided not to host a dinner to celebrate hen dan unlike presidents obama, bush and clinton.

this is video of the dinner last year with president obama hosting the meal when muslims break their fast. president trump was a candidate the he said he was open to continuing this tradition. instead, the white house issued a statement saying in part, during this holiday we are reminded of the importance of mercy, compassion, and goodwill. right now an investigation into a major hack. at least seven government websites criticized president donald trump. ch.rections, medicaid and casinos were hit the hack. the web pages for the governor and first lady, john and carrie kasich. no personal information was compromised by the hack and all those affected servers had to be . ken off line. a new study out find nearly four out of ten american adults do not have life insurance policy.

oakland will be up to 72. palo alto, 78 degrees. if you are making plans to maybe go golfing, hitting the links in a spot like the tri-valley where last week it was too hot to go golfing, well, it's going to be much nicer today. our highs there reaching into the upper 70s and a cool, nice day in santa cruz as our high temperatures this afternoon will be reaching right at about 70 degrees. we'll be at 69 degrees at 1:00 today. i wanted to tell you about this, hurricane dora, the first hurricane of the pacific season has began. it formed here just to the west and that storm now has wind speeds of 80 miles an hour. this is what the storm is expected to do over the next few days in case you have travel plans in that area. it will be weakening. this is not expected to be a major headline maker over the next few days. and now as we look back on our weekend i want to show you what

i did. i wept to natural bridges. it was nice and cool there. here is a picture that i took. you can send me your pictures right to meteorologist kari hall on facebook. let me know where you graced your presence over the weekend. and as we get a look at our temperatures as we go through the week, san francisco stays nice in the 60s. morning clouds, afternoon sun. inland valleys will be in the upper 70s today but we'll be talking about some upper 80s by the end of the week. i'll have more on that coming up. i might have more info on the crash in san jose. the rest of the bay looks great. we're tracking those two crashes and in fact our photographer has his presence down here on northbound 101 at blossom hill getting us a live shot down there. we see all the slowing starting almost back to the 85 split. this entire area reportedly slow because of a crash blocking at least the slow lane. a car is wedged under the trailer. no major injuries. that's bound to be a spectacle, live pick in a few minutes. southbound 680. the build continues now farther north before you get to auto

mall parkway. debris is starting to thin out now. there may have been a traffic break and clearing of debris so at least that's better news. speeds are improving. the slower starts farther back. as we look at the rest of your bay, coming in off the tri-valley, head over to the castro valley and take 880 to avoid the slowing in fremont if that is your choice, it looks like a clear one. more slowing that popped up. i'll check for any secondary crashes. you can check your route by going to your phone and checking waze as well. make sure you plot that out and join our team. hit the magnifying glass, your name and where you scroll down to where it says teams enjoy nbc ely area wazers. that way we can share information. >> sounds good, mike. thank you so much. next, the sequel to the hit documentary "an inconvenient /anim= is coming out. the update on where you can see it first.

into that front tire. air bags seen as well. fortunately and surprisingly no major injuries to the driver of this vehicle there. chp on the scene as you saw from this video. let's get you back out to the map and show you slow on the approach on 101 up to blossom hill. the earlier extended slowing as crews have cleared from the separation of the vehicle and they're hooking up the it tow truck. back to you. >> thank you very much. well, today we hope to learn more about human remains that were found at an east bay warehouse. san francisco police say they could be the remains of a man who disappeared on mother's day. the medical examiner is now working to positively identify him. >> we first broke the story during yesterday's broadcast. bob, we nope the family had been waiting for information for weeks. now it devastating development. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to

you, sam and kris. the family of this missing man will be providing dna samples to the medical examiner to confirm whether or not the body parts found this weekend here in hayward belong to piseth chhay seen here in a fphoto held by hs grieving wife ratana. chhay, a san francisco uber driver, disappeared this past mother's day on saturday morning. the sheriff's officer found body parts inside a hayward warehouse after employees complained of a foul smell. that warehouse is connected to bob tang, a long time friend of chhay and according to law enforcement a person of interest in his disappearance. police say they found tang's car abandoned at sfo. they believe he fled to cambo a cambodia. the body parts are so mutilated and decomposed they can only be identified through dna. >> i just hope and pray it's not my husband. i need all your prayers that the

body parts don't belong to my husband. he has to come home to these boys. he has to come home to these boys and to me. he has to come home. he has to come home. >> reporter: the missing man's wife tells us her family and bob tang were so close at one point they vacationed together. she tells us she doesn't know what went wrong. reporting live here in hayward, bob redell, "today in the bay." a heartbreaking development. bob, thank you very much. 5:34 right now. contra costa county residents reportedly will have a chance to be directly involved in the process of replacing their disgraced district attorney. two weeks ago mark peterson resigned after pleading no con it test of perjury. the east bay times reports that before a permanent replacement is hired there will be a public forum allowing folks to question the filing.

that hearing is scheduled to take place in august. it is 5:34 now. authorities in san fran stran are looking for the person who set fire to a popular san francisco playground. firefighters responded a little after midnight yesterday to the play structure if golden gate park. look closely. that use d to be a slide. the flames fully engulfed that structure and the damage could go up to a million bucks. so far arson investigators say they don't have any suspects. happening today people will gather to voice their opposition to a potential break-up of the mt. diablo unified school district. they have until august to decide on a plan that would see four schools anchored around north gate high school form their own district. a ballot measure would then be drafted. opponents plan to gather tonight ahead of that district meeting. facebook may have stars in its eyes, as in movie stars. the silicon valley giant reportedly in talks with major hollywood studios to produce tv quality scripted shows.

"the wall street journal" reporting facebook is liking the idea of launching original programming by late summer and willing to spend as much as a million dollars per episode. >> bike riders of all ages gathered the peninsula to help local children's charities yesterday. the criterium bicycle race is broke up according to ages. ages start with small children, although those guys aren't too small, they go up to adults who are very fast. that event helps to promote bicycle safety. all right. over here we're concerned about everyone's safety. fortunately no major injuries to the driver of this vehicle, hooked up and now on this flat bed soon to be loaded. slowinging is still blocked by the flares. this great shot northbound 101 as we take a look at the maps. it's at blossom hill. the slowing on our map shows the sensors are starting just after you pass the split with 85. monterey highway, great options for you through the area but, again, 101 does get by you. slowing because of the bright

hired defense attorneys in had the wake of an fbi probe surrounding bank fraud allegations. he has hired two attorneys, one for him and one for his wife, jane sanders. they will assist in the. a loan helped cover the cost of an expansion at burlington college when his wife was president of the school in 2010. sanders told "the washington post" his wife is innocent. meanwhile, president trump stated for the first time he does believe the russians tried to influence our election. >> scott mcgrew, this comes after months of pointing the finger elsewhere. >> or just calling it a hoax entirply, kris. trump was reacting to "the washington post" article that said the cia alerted president obama that vladimir putin himself ordered russian spy agencies to attack our elections with the purpose of hurting had hillary clinton and helping donald trump.

trump tweet since the obama administration was told way before the 2016 election that the russians were meddling, why no action? focus on them not t, meaning trump. there's a lot to unpack here. it clearly was not enough. "the post" article explains those actions over pages and pages. and i suggested friday you check it out yourself, read it for yourself. as for the president's point obama knew before the 2016 election, we all knew or at least suspected that the russians were attacking the elections. speaker of the house paul ryan, after all, warned in july, months before the election, putin should stay out of the election. trump as candidate was well aware. he made a joke about it. >> why do i have to get involved with putin? i've never spoken to him. i don't know anything about him other than he will respect me. he doesn't respect our president.

if it is srussia, which it's probably not, nobody knows who it is. >> that wasn't a joke but anyway he jokes that hillary clinton e-mails could be hacked by the russians. on sunday he told "fox and friend" he had not heard about the allegations at all, that putin directly ordered the hacks, until he read it in "the post." >> i just had heard today for the first time that obama knew about russia a long time before the election and did nothing about it but nobody wants to talk about that. the cia gave him information on russia a long time before they even -- before the election. >> did the cia brief trump with the same information once he became president? if not, why not? if they didn't that would be disturbing. other news out of washington watching the supreme court. we expect the court will rule on president trump's travel ban that could come around 6:30 our time.

i want to show you a beautiful scene, one we're seeing around the sate right now. a look at the sun rise over heavenly. it is amazing we still have this much snow on the ground now end of june. we start out with clouds over pleasanton. 58 degrees there. looking from the troe to san francisco, we see mostly clear skies. it's 60 degrees in stran francisco. 63 in oakland and 61 in palo alto in san jose as well as 61 in napa. high temperatures reaching into the upper 70s to low 80s. in the delta temperatures much warmer up to 90 degrees. 80 in danville. 67 in half moon bay. san francisco will see low to mid-60s today and clearing skies

forecast. we'll show you what's in the forecast for skiing in july. the reason you don't want to put away your snow equipment just yet. but first, hamming happening right now, tragedy in pakistan. 157 people have died after a truck there carrying more than 6,000 gallons of gas crashed on a highway. most of the people who died were villagers rushing to the scene to collect the spilled fuel when it ignited killing them. right now we are also getting word two marines are being treated for severe burns in san diego after an on-base fire. we're told a ground flash fire happened in miramar late last night. the unit involved was based out of ft. worth, texas. we're back with more news on this monday in it two minutes. taking a live look outside from

our san francisco camera this mog. welcome back squarely in your picture. a pleasant day, welcome relief after last week's heat. temperatures expected to be in the 60s and 70s today. >> all right, now. take a look at this. it is the end of june and people are still skiing in the sierra. check out the get-ups. people took advantage of the cooler weather hitting the slopes at squaw valley ski resort. no bulky ski clothes required.

it has been a long ski season in the sierra and the resort is getting ready for the july 4th holiday weekend as well. >> following on a tuesday is special. we get to ski for four days straight. it will be the fourth time in history we'll have operations pour skiing on the fourth of july. >> the last time people could ski on the fourth of july was way back in the 2010-2011 ski season. officials say they will be open as long as there is snow. people buying season tickets for next year. i think they might need their pants by then, though. as we head into the holiday weekend, police in the bay area are trying to prevent any issues with illegal fireworks. the police department is using a smartphone app that allows people to report illegal fireworks. it is called nail them and it is available for iphones and androids. you can report whether someone has illegal fireworks or is u using them and you can include photos, also a gps location. the complaint is then sent over

to the police department. kris, if you are hitting the road for the july 4th weekend to ski or to do anything else for that matter, you are in for a pleasant surprise. gas prices actually about 5 cents a gallon lower than they were at this time last year and it reverses the normal trend. it typically gas prices spike heading to the summer. that has not been the case this year. it's not just that gas is cheaper, airfares are down 10%. aaa is predicting a record year for fourth of july travel. it's going to be a historical year for travel for independence day. we are expecting that 44 million americans will be traveling this holiday season. >> 37 million of the folks traveling are going to be driving. aaa measures the long holiday weekend as being a full five days starting friday and running through next, the actual fourth of july. >> 5:56 now and happening now the muslim community is trying to keep a positive attitude

after several mosques in northern california became the targets of hate. in two separate incidents the koran was destroyed. one incident happened on friday where pages of the koran were ripped and thrown into the street outside the isic center. and then on saturday it was burned along with bacon that was chained to a fence with handcuffs near the islamic center in sacramento. some members of the community there spoke about how they've experienced hate before. >> people at school are like, oh, do you know osama bin laden? how the heck am i suppose d to know him? are you going to bomb the school or something? >> police say they take the incident very seriously but that it is not considered a hate crime because no one broke the law aside from littering. no arrests have been made in the sacramento case. happening right now rescue

crews are in the process of searching for a san francisco father who vanished after he saved his daughter from drowning in the delta. this happened sunday afternoon in the state park. witnesses say a 40-year-old man and his 5-year-old daughter were kayaking when the kayak flipped and they both went under water. the did surface with his daughter and a person on another boat nearby able to pull her to safety. then the dad slipped back under water, and there has been no sign of him since then. investigators say that neither of them were wearing life jackets at the time. right now a shocking mix-up. a southern california man who thought that his son had died has learned that he buried the wrong person. he says the orange county coroner's office mistakenly identified a body found last month as that of his son. he was told the fingerprints were used to identify his son who is meant ill and also ho homeless. a $20,000 funeral and burial were held but 11 days after that the man received a call from had his son who is alive. the coroner's office is investigating. >> that is shocking.
