onboard the b.a.r.t. trains were, in fact, decoys. that was a fact many riders weren't aware of until a murder took place last year. it was have january of 2016. at the west oakland b.a.r.t. station. b.a.r.t. released images of the suspect from a camera at the ticket gate but not from the camera onboard. because, as it turns out, it was a dummy camera. nbc bay area submitted a freedom of information request and found that 70% of the cacameras onboae fake. there was a backlash last year for not having working cameras to capture that shooting and other crimes. since then the transit agency has spent over a million dollars to install working cameras on every car, every train in the b.a.r.t. system and that last set of security cameras will be installed at 11 clo:00 this mor. reporting live here in fremont, bob redell, "today in the bay."

>> thank you, bob. a live look now at san jose city hall where councilmembers are looking to change how they manage their own salaries. last month the council voted to give itself a raise. the mercury news says that last night the mayor and the vice mayor and two councilmembers asked for a new way that doesn't involve the council it self. voters will be able to decide on that coming up in 2018. the mayor's salary went up nearly 10%. the council rose 10.8%. right now one man is on the run after a lockdown at a shopping center on the peninsula. a live look at parking lot in belmont's carlmont shopping center where a marijuana deal went sour last night. police say the two men met at 6:00 in the evening to exchange cash for pot. the dealer ended up getting m s pistol-whipped and his attacker took off with a backpack full of pot. police searched the area for two hours and at one point spotted

the robber but he ducked into a drain pipe and got away. walnut creek police are looking for this man, the yoga thief. he's targeting yoga studios in the east bay stealing credit cards from purses and pants while the victims are exercising in class. this is surveillance video taken after allegedly using those stolen credit cards to buy things in pleasant hills. >> a bicyclist is fighting for his life after getting hit by a honda civic in sebastopol at stony point and sebastopol road. they say the bicyclist, jose of santa rosa, was crossing against the red light and that's when he was struck. he suffered major injuries to his head. and new this morning, investigators will will begin

looking at video from a muni bus that collided with a delivery truck last night. nine people were hurt in the crash which happened at castro beaver. we talked with a man who heard the crash from his yard. >> i was out watering and turning off the water when i heard the bus honk twice and a big crash, and there was a truck. >> investigators will will use video from cameras on that bus to try to piece together the moments leading up to the crash. golden gate warriors' mat pat barnes has agreed to community service after a fight last year in new york city. barnes agreed to a plea deal yesterday in connection with a melee last december involving a woman and her boyfriend outside of a nightclub. barnes will be allowed to serve his punishment here. happening today san francisco launches a new bike sharing program called the ford go bike. ford designed those bikes in the system which were made with the bay area's tough hills in mind.

sunshine by the middle of the afternoon. those clouds roll right back in very quickly and highs reaching into the low 60s there. i'll have a look at what you can expect as we look at the temperature trend forevergreen coming up in about four minutes. mike takes us out with a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. >> we had that earlier backup in the cash lanes on either side. all appear to be open and traffic mroflows very smoothly. we'll see how this morning's volume shapes up. we're looking at the maps through the area as well. the earlier fire, cal fire, a controlled burn. this other fire was not scheduled. it was a brush fire taken care of by vallejo early this morning. no more problems around the roadways, a smooth drive. the control burn on the peninsula so you may see that around chrrystal springs. if you're not sure, call it in anyway and they'll tell you whether or not that's an issue. and we're looking to the transit agency. no major delays. no problems. we may see lighter volume all

it's 5:10. we made it to wednesday and some cloudy skies as we take a live look outside over san jose and the temperature trend forever green. we he are going it to see it starting out in the low 60s at 9:00. and we rise to the mid-70s by lunch time and a lot of sun throughout the day heats us up into the low 80s which is where we should be for this time of year. as we head into july it's going to start to heat up. i'll talk about that, a look ahead to the weekend coming up in about five minutes. and travel times are great right now through the tri-valley. just 25 minutes out of the alit

at this mon altamont pass. >> 5:10 now and live to capitol hill where the dust is settling after yesterday's big announcement on that vote on the republican health care bill that is now delayed. we brought you live coverage of that vote delay during yesterday's midday newscast. and that means americans have more time to voice their opinions on that bill. today in san francisco there is a planned protest against the bill happening at the federal building on 7th street coming up at noon today. don't count the republicans out just yet. >> they now have more time to tweak the bill to try to scoop up the votes that they need. tracie potts is live this morning from washington, d.c., with the mood in the nation's capital this morning, just another twist and turn here. good morning, tracie. >> reporter: celebratory for democrats but only for a short time because republicans insist this will get done.

sport. you have got it to get into this fight. >> reporter: both sides agree it's not over. and we've seen this before, recently, when the house tried to rush a health care vote and realized on the day of the vote they didn't have the support so they pulled it. they came back and saved the bill and it ended up passing. >> maybe we will learn from history on this one. tracie potts, thank you so much. security experts trying to counter yet another cyber attack. this time targeting the you krapian government. >> this is similar to the cyber attack that hit europe last month. it affected european businesses and even a pharmaceutical giant, merck. they said it shut down its computer network but that nothing vital was affected. >> that virus encrypts data and holds it for ransom, hence the name ran someware.

good morning to you. this appears to be straight out theft, kris. the doctor gave people marijuana prescriptions, and data about those pot patients was stolen apparently by a form earp employee. the website offers californians marijuana cards for $29. in its user forum it says people's names and phone numbers and patient notes were exposed. dr. davidson's office says it's notified police. a report from the bureau of labor statistics says people in the san francisco area make 53% more than the average american. now we have jobs that pay more, it's true. but even jobs that don't tend to pay a lot workers in san francisco tend to get paid much more than a person doing the same job in , say, ohio. that same report lists the jobs

in francoe san francisco by the number of people. the most popular is programmer. but feeding those programmers is a big job. food service comes in second followed by maintenance and janitorial. at the bottom the most common is cashier, a job vulnerable to automation. losses on the markets tuesday. investors trying to figure out if congress can put the health care bill through. remember from an investors' point of view it's more about tax cuts. the nasdaq down 100. uber introducing a new feature that will allow you to order a ride for somebody else. you punch in a pickup address than where you're standing. uber will ask for the name of the person you'd like picked up. for instance your elderly parent can call you and say, hey, can you order me an uber? you could be in an entirely different state than your parent, it wouldn't make any difference. you've been able to do this up until now, just move the

the end of giants tuesday at -- what this? >> actually that's the oakland/houston game. oakland went on to win 6-4 last night. so that's actually a really great thing for the oakland athletics. they are within seven games of .500. they've been showing some sparks of life here lately. that was ryan healey with a grand slam. they go on to win 6-4. coughed up a few runs late but it didn't matter in the end. they close it out. four wins in a row for the a's who are now seven games below .500. >> so i can do play-by-play but i like to do it live not highlights. >> you and bill o'reilly? >> we're live. >> i don't think i know enough to -- whatever that said. >> let's talk about the seagulls again for a second. they came out during a day game sunday. i think it's just a night thing. i don't know what the madness

gilroy 84 degrees for the east bay, livermore 79. free throw month, 76 degrees. not bad at all. temperatures in the 60s for parts of the peninsula. you head down to palo alto, up to 76 degrees. the other sunset at 61 there and 85 degrees in santa rosa. we talked about the giants. they must be exhausted today after all of those innings and then they have a midday game. temperatures in the upper 50s and only making it up to 60 degrees. it if you're planning to head to wine country today it will start out in the low 60s. you may need long sleeves but you'll be taking it off as those temperatures warm up today and you may need the long sleeves throughout the day in santa cruz along the beaches will our highs only reaching the low 70s for this afternoon. and a live look outside in heavenly. if you're making plans to hit the roads look at these temperatures. it will be in the mid-80s as we

head to the end of the week. they have that spectacular fourth of july fireworks show right there on the lake. we're looking at temperatures in san francisco that will stay in the 60s and we'll have to watch out for the low clouds. when we see the fog rolling in you can't see much of the fireworks. while the inland valleys are will at this point looks like we have a clear shot of getting some fireworks and all clear skies as the temperatures heat up into the low 90s by saturday. and, mike, you're starting now at the altamont pass. >> the area chp says they got caught with a gust of wind or two. this is not an official alert but chp saying a couple gusts of wind. we know windmills are there for a reason. a little build and possibly a disabled vehicle. there's the slowing. by the time you get into livermore and the dublin interchange you're doing just fine. the rest of the bay, no real issues over here anywhere south of the bay bridge looking at green sensors. we'll check out your waze system

out of surgery - after being shot developing story right now out of sacramento county where a deputy is out of surgery after being shot in the face during a violent confrontation. this all happened yesterday before 6:00 at night at a light rail station in. witnesses say the deputy got

into a fight with the suspect. the suspect pulled out a gun and fired two. >> his face and holding his face because he was bleed iing so ba. the person shot twice and missed the first time, shot again and hit the cop in the face. >> the suspect took off and ran to a nearby hotel. deputies thankfully were able to locate him about three hours later still holed up in a hotel room. they arrested him without incident. the deputy suffered extensive facial injuries. those injuries are not considered to be life threatening. back here at home the central valley man accused of plotting to kill three of his doctors in palo alto will be in court today. chen will appear for a plea hearing this morning. the 58-year-old was arrested by chp officers in san jose. investigators say the suspect intended to shoot his doctors in their own homes. palo alto police say chen was upset about the treatment he received. and the kindness of strangers in the bay area helped sweeten a rather sour note for

one new orleans band. someone broke into their tour van in san francisco stealing luggage, two valuable violins, computers and microphones. before the band's show last night the brewing company gave band members the chance to pick out clothing from their store and fans showed support in all kinds of other ways. one loaned a violin to one band member. >> we were able to pull off incredible feats, thanks to people being encouraging, giving us clothes to wear. >> even if i didn't like their music i would still buy something. they ended up being fantastic. >> sweet crude heads to quincy where they also plan to camp for several days. band members will first have to replace their stolen tents and sleeping bags. >> nothing says welcome to san francisco like having your car broken into. 5:26 right now on your wednesday. target is taking on amazon's

prime pantry service with their own version called restock. customers can fill a box with up to 45 pounds of items for a flat fee. target is charging less than amazon, just $5 a box and is offering next day delivery. amazon typically arrives in about four business days. target can do quick delivery because it's fillings with items from nearby stores instead of dipping into warehouses. kris, you were talking about how tricky it can be to set these car seats up. making sure your children are strapped in safely, people in the bay getting a chance to make sure they are properly installing their car seat. free car seat inspections being offered in napa at the queen of the valley medical center parking lot. that starts at 10:00 this morning. >> i'm it was wrong. my heart dropped. >> sometimes you need an engineering degree. >> it is really tough. we will be right back. making a brew while staying green is the goal of a brewery.

holiday, kari. yes, it's about that time. we are going to have temperatures that will feel a little bit warmer as we head into the weekend. a live look outside in tiburon. temperature now at 57 degrees. it's all clear as we look at that vantage point. we will see the temperatures today reaching into the mid-80s for concord. it will feel a few degrees warmer than yesterday. oakland 68. we keep the same temperatures also in san jose up to 78 degrees and 63 in san francisco. we'll talk about the weekend coming up in six minutes. mike, back at the bay bridge. >> folks likely heading to their desks as well or standing laptop tables, whatever they have in san francisco. the metering lights are on. here is what kari was talking about, drizzle may be an issue for you. we're watching that. so far no appreciable impacts.

aside from the bay bridge everything moves well, the north bay to highway 101 and also over in vallejo. a smooth drive down into the south bay. slowing out of the altamont pass, west 580. the rest of your commute moves well. back to you. >> thank you very much. happening today the fight to build higher buildingsing along san francisco's waterfront. despite what people might want. looking along the embarcadero this morning. pete, you might have thought this issue was settled at the ballot box. it's heading to a higher court. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and kris. supporters of proposition b says it's about putting the power in the hands of the voters when it comes to high rise buildings along the city's waterfront. the court hearing takinging place this afternoon could

decide its future. a san francisco judge will consider a case against prop b this afternoon whether or not to invalidate the proposition which requires voters to approve the construction along the 7 1/2-mile stretch of waterfront in response to a lawsuit filed by the state's land commission which says the power to have the final say on developments along that waterfront. a quick time line. this was approved by 59% of voters. from aquatic park to hunters point that exceed height limits which vary between 40 to 80 feet and then the state lands commission filing a lawsuit to overturn this arguing lands belonged to the state and are managed the port commission so they would be the ones instead of the city and the voters. now there was an attempt at settlement talks that took place

last year ultimately failed between the city and the lands commission. now those against the proposition say this is cutting off opportunities for housing developments being built along the waterfront but that court is set to take place at 2:00 p.m. live if san francisco, pete suratos, for "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, pete. breaking news this morning in venezuela, the pop start of a coup after a police helicopter attack. cam eras caught the attack yesterday. no one was killed but the attack did happen while the venezuelan maduro was speaking on state television. he put the military on alert while denouncing that terrorist act. the attack comes after mass protests against the political and economic crisis in that nation. the pilot went on to instagram trying to appeal to venezuelans

to oppose the tyranny. back in the bay now and palo alto leaders have reportedly followed through on a plan that is eventually going to send parking rates in had a city soaring. city councilmembers last night approved hikes. it could have an outsized impact on people who leave their car there for the day. rates for the parking garage will go from the current 466 to $7 $730. parking permits for california avenue will more than double to $365. before last night's meeting we spoke with a restaurant worker who says he usually has to move his car every two hours. >> i don't want to work for parking. it doesn't make sense for anybody. >> if you look at what it costs to park on a daily basis it's minimal. >> they are going up from $8 to $25. councilmembers say they're hiking rates to encourage more people to find other ways to commute there. the new rates take effect this spring. happening today a hearing on the new alameda county budget. the county administrator

proposed a $3 billion budget for the next fiscal year. the plan would close a $108 million funding gap and is designed to avoid service cuts or staff layoffs. spending on road repairs and infrastructure also getting a boost in that budget. happening san francisco assemblyman wants to boost electric vehicle sales. assembly member king is announcing a bill that would do just that. that is happening at the civic center electric vehicle charging station, the ones right across from city hall. >> we know those charging stations. no matter what you use to energize your car or fuel your car it's moving pretty well. we do have a new crash reported somewhere around the approach between airway and the dublin interchange. more detail from chp. we know we do have a disabled vehicle here west 588 and that's what's causing traffic to be lighter into the liver area.

tiburon men charged with trading child pornography will be in court today. ryan spencer and bryan petersen of marin county will appear in a san francisco court this morning for hearings. spencer is a former recreational worker at an aptos he wielement school and petersen is a babysitter. we now know what caused a subway train to derail in new york city injuring nearly three dozen people. look at this video of what the accident scene looked like afterwards. investigators blaming the accident on human error not a track defect. this happened yesterday morning in har. originally investigators thought it was caused with by a piece of replacement rail stored on the track. the incident knocked out power and sent sparks and debris flying along the subway tracks there. injuries were from smoke inhalation. happening now evacuation orders are being extended north of phoenix, arizona, where

wildfire has grown to more than 18,000 acres since saturday. this is one of several wildfires burning in the western united states. another fire 250 miles south of salt lake city now burned more than 7200 square miles. >> the parents of a journalist kidnapped will be speaking exclusively to the "today" show's matt lauer. austin tice, a former marine, disappeared after his 31st birthday in damascus. a video was released, this video, showing him blindfolded and being held by armed men. that was the last time tice was seen. you can watch his parents on the "today" show coming up at 7:00 right after "today in the bay." catch lester holt's interview with them tonight 5:30 on the nbc n "nbc nightly news." this just in, china releases three activists detained while investigating the company for shoes -- as a company that makes shoes for eivanka trump and othr

brands. this as ivanka trump's fashion brand faces questions about working conditions at a chinese factory. workers there say they face long hou hours, low pay, and verbal abuse. two former workers and a current employee told the associated press a manager once hit a worker in the head with a high heeled shoe. three undercover activists were arrested at the factory last month. the trump administration is planning to begin building models of the border wall this summer. officials say four to eight companies will give contracts for prototypes in san diego. they will then have 30 days to complete the models. trump's budget proposal for 2018 includes more than a billion dollars for parts of the wall to be built at texas' rio grande valley and san diego. the president is throwing support behind an immigration bill in the house today. >> an imbill, scott mcgrew, with a sad connection. >> a woman was killed on san

francisco's pier 14 by an undocumented immigrant. a man who had been thrown out of the country more than once. today the house will take up the bill that would increase penalties against people who return to the united states after they are deported. republican senators met with the president tuesday afternoon to rally support for the health care bill, but it was not enough. a vote on the bill has been delayed million after the july 4th recess which could give the senators' constituents time to organize against it. now republican senator from maine, susan kol, here is donald trump's response. some of the fake news media likes to say i'm not totally engaged in health care. wrong. i mo the subject well and want victory for the u.s. we were talking about those senators. the senator from maine says she cannot support the bill because minor tweaks would not be enough. heller said he will not support the bill and that's led to republican on republican
