along the coast will still be faci fairly comfortable. we are expecting nice weather but i have a feeling it will not be quiet outside. keep that in mind for your pets. try valley 56 degrees right now and we're still in the 50s and working our way up. what's keeping us nice and cool if you notice the san francisco cam, already seeing a little of the morning drizzle, that thick marine layer. it's very deep. it is expected to sticking the low clouds lingering. if you look at north bay already looking for nice. we're seeing a few hazy skies. as that marine layer begins to burn off by mid afternoon, it will shape out to be a fairly nice day across the entire bay area with warming temps into the 50s and 60s for san francisco and then yes, we might even see some upper 80s and nie90s but i have a closer look at that coming up.

>> we'll stay tuned for that. thanks. new this morning. one person is dead following a car crash in the east bay overnight. chp officers say it happened just before 11:00 last night on highway 4. one car flipped over on the arnold industrial exit. authorities say at least one person was killed. an investigation is under way. a south bay woman accused of running over her childhood friend and killing her remains in jail facing murder charges this morning. meanwhile that victim's family and friends h held a special memorial in her honor. more than a dozen custom cars did a pro session for sally munoz who was a big enthusiast in the low rider community. investigators say munoz and her lifelong friend had been out for a night of drinking on tuesday night in campbell when they got into a fight. they say de la rosa intentionally ran over munoz with her car. she was arraigned in court

yesterday. the victim's father spoke exclusively with nbc bay area at the arraignment. he says he's kiconflicted becau he know this is suspect so well. >> i cannot believe this happened and the way it happened. supposedly if that's your friend, you're not going to just run her over and leave her there. >> the victim's father went on to tell us that de la rosa called him and confessed that she hit his daughter with her car but didn't remember where. the fourth of july isn't until tuesday but bay area firefighters are gearing up for people to start celebrating this weekend because it's a four day weekend for most. that means fireworks and high fire danger. the fire department activated its mobile command unit early ahead of anticipated emergency. >> we started having to really prioritize differently how we do medical calls, how we do, you know, car accidents and all of that kind of stuff. so it doesn't just affect fires. >> alameda county has seen a

spike this year in illegal fireworks. this week alone they have taken in 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks including 3,200 pounds from a motorcycle clubhouse in san leandro. if you'd like a list of cities where fireworks are legal, logon to our fireworks and click on the fourth of july festivities box. you'll find a list of family friendly events for this weekend. at least six people are displaced after an overnight fire in the south bay. investigator are working to pinpoint exactly what caused the fire and whether illegal fireworks were involved. it happened at a home on the corner of fox dale drive and fox dale court in south san jose. firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames and keep it from spreading. >> there's significant smoke damage and fire damage. the fire looks like it got up in the attic and then some pretty

significant damage there too. >> there are reports that illegal fireworks were being set off about an hour before the fire, but investigators are still looking into that. police are reviewing surveillance video to track down teenagers who attacked and robbed a man on bart. investigators say four teens punched the man, took his cell phone, and then ran out of the east dublin station. it happened just after 11:00 on wednesday night. that's the same day the transit agency announced it had finished replacing all of its decoy cameras with real ones on all their trains. in fremont a deadly crash when a truck driver loses control and crosses into oncoming traffic. our chopper was over the scene yesterday afternoon on osgood road just off of 680. police say the truck crossed into the southbound lanes and hit another car. that truck driver died at the scene. the person in the other car suffered minor injuries. police are investigating if drugs or alcohol played a role

in the crash. the immigration debate is getting heated in one bay area county. the alameda county sheriff is now under fire for cooperating with federal immigration officials. this isn't the first time he's fiss faced chris simple f faced criticism on his stance for immigration. today in the bay jean has more on the emotional meeting. >> reporter: a town hall meeting with alameda county sheriff gets rowdy. dozens of people showed up to urge the sheriff to stop working with immigration and customs enforcement. >> will you stop collaborating with i.c.e.? >> reporter: the sheriff says his deputies don't enforce immigration laws on the street but at the jail they do communicate with i.c.e. >> we disagree. i believe some people should be deported. >> reporter: a position some say has people living in fear. >> i think everybody fears being

good fortune. good people. and it was all found on the freeway. >> wow. that was robert reporting. today the pilot's wife will undergo the same back surgery that he had last night. doctors say they both are expected to fully recover. investigators are trying to figure out why a doctor carried a rifle into a new york hospital and opened fire killing a female doctor and then turning the gun on himself. 45-year-old dr. henry bello worked at bronx-lebanon hospital for six months before he quit two years ago. yesterday afternoon he pulled an a.r. 15 from under his lab coat and opened fire. six other people are being treated for their injuries. it is 7:12 right now. we have much more ahead on today in the bay. coming up, boats in the bay will have to share the water for the fourth of july because whales are showing up in the waters

welcome back. that doesn't look promises. cloudy skies over san jose. it will be a little bit warmer than we saw yesterday and we will see some sun today as we kick off the fourth of july weekend. a tuberculosis scare at a bay area giym. members recently found out that a member tested positive for the highly contagious bacteria. they notified the club back on

june 16th and a spokes person for the club would not say why it took two weeks to notify other members. county health officials say anyone who was in the club at the same time as the infected person should get tested for t.b. there are pods of humpback whales in the bay near the bay bridge. but there are growing concerns about the whales safety. today in the bay tom jenson explains. >> reporter: a great time to be on the water. and on the golden gate bridge if you want to see san francisco famous humpback whales. as many as 25 in a day have been spotted below the bridge. but the fun on the water lately has led to dangerous encounters between people, boats and humpbacks. >> in two cases that we are aware of where we've actually seen photographic evidence, some of the small boats out there have actually hit whales directly.

she joins us with a look at our fourth of july weekend forecast. >> it's here. july is here. people are out and about celebrating. i can't believe june is already gone. >> i know. >> and one thing that's not gone is this that ma rerine layer. we've been waking up to foggy conditions and it's pretty normal. if you notice it does burn off my mid afternoon. it doesn't gi give us a very pl afternoon. tri-valley also nice and cool in the 50s. san francisco still seeing those foggy conditions. we are expecting for that deepening marine layer to start burning off. if you notice the north bay looks stunning. nice clear skies. we're definitely seeing a nice difference between the hazy skies in the east bay, cloudy foggy conditions of san francisco. but doppler radar is showing a lot of that fog and this will start to burn off over the next couple of hours. you'll start to notice it does

kind of clear off the coast and even the bay by about 12:30. just about the time you head out to lunch it will still be a little bit cloudy in some parts. half moon bay. but sfan francisco going to loo absolutely beautiful. it will warm up quite nicely not just for today but into tomorrow. we're going to be slightly warmer than what we were yesterday. so let's see your highs for today in san jose, 78. east san jose 82. morgan hill 83. and then some even warmer spots will be in the east bay. antioch expecting to climb to 75. walnut creek 85. oakland 72. i would say even though they're warmer, they're still fairly comfortable. along the peninsula 62 expected

for half moon bay. for san francisco we will once again climb into those mid to upper 60s and then it will get slight l slightly warmer as the marine layer starts to break apart and the sun starts to take over. by saturday today's highs in the north bay, look at that. sonoma, 85 degrees. with these warming temps it does bring up the factor of fire danger especially because it is already fourth of july weekend. a lot of people are going to be outside whether you're lighting fire works or you're turning on some barbecue. you want to keep in mind that the humidity levels are pretty low so it's pretty warm and dry, especially in the inland areas as well. but if you look at the coast, not as big of a threat but definitely the highlighted areas can expect to see warmer conditions. that does raise concerns. please keep that in mind. be safe out there with family friends. san francisco we can expect to

see that gradual warming. we do have a ridge of high pressure that will be building nicely and even through the fourth of july weekend which happens to fall on a tuesday, it stays really warm and we see a gradual warming right around tuesday. it kind of cools off. then we climb right back up to 92 degrees by next weekend. we're still not in the clear of the 90s, but i will have more updates on that of course coming up yet again during the next half hour. >> stay tuned for that. 7:21 right now. much more ahead today in the bay. a new museum opens celebrating the 50th anniversary that started right here in the bay area. we have the history of concert posters next.

san leandro. if you'd like a list of bay area cities where safe fire works are actually legal, log on to our website and check on the fourth of july festivities box. you can find a list of family friendly events happening this week. many public safety departments are calling for all hands on deck this holiday weekend and that includes the coast guard. be on the lookout for boaters who are boating under the influence. it's all part of operation dry water. the same rules apply for boaters that are used for drivers. if your blood alcohol level is above .08 you will be arrested. >> the blood alcohol content is the same as driving. 11% of all accidents are alcohol related in 2016 and 15% of facilities are all alcohol related and that's about the same as the national average. it's a big deal. >> first offense can carry up to six months in jail and $1,000 in

fine. the california highway patrol is in a maximum enforcement period. it started yesterday and lasts until midnight. officers are looking for people who are speeding, driving distracted, not wearing their seat belts or driving under the influence. in other news now, six people are displaced after an overnight fire in the south bay. investigators are working to pin point what caused the fire and whether illegal fireworks were involved. it happened at a home on the corner of fox dale drive and fox dale court in south san jose. firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and save it from spreading to another home. >> there's some significant damage. smoke damage and fire damage. the fire looks like it got up in the attic and then, you know, pretty significant damage there too. >> there were reports, illegal fireworks were being set off about an hour before the fire ignited, but investigators are still looking into that. three local planned parenthood clinics have shut down their doors for good.

it's 7:43. that marine layer keeping us in the 50s. south bay 58. we're seeing the clouds start breaking apart except for san francisco. we're keeping that fog in there. 53 degrees. north bay looking stunning at 51 degrees. east bay still a little cloudy at 57 degrees. now this marine layer is pretty deep right now but we've already seen it kind of breaking apart. it will continue to do so until the mid afternoon just around your lunch hour. perfect timing to enjoy a nice outdoor picnic. today's forecast, there are going to be slightly warmer than they were yesterday. i'm talking about the temperatures. mainly inland area. maybe four to five degrees warmer. livermore a high of about 86. san jose did hit a high of 73. today looking at a high of 78. san francisco 65. the cooler spots are going to remain along the coast. and in the bay as well. which means if you plan on lighting fireworks in any of

these warmer spots, please don't light any fireworks or any barbecues near any dry grass or dry brush because we're also expecting it to be a little bit brie bri breezy out there. if you notice san francisco 26 miles per hour at about 8:30 and half moon bay 31 miles per hour. throughout the afternoon it kind of dies down and then picks up a little about 5:30 p.m. we pick up at about 13 miles per hour. but the breezier conditions will remain through the early morning and then it should kind of die down into the evening and afternoon hours as well which means yes, we will be warming up again not just today, but also as we head into tomorrow as well. which means that you plan on heading to the beach to celebrate the fourth of july weekend, here's a quick look at the santa cruz forecast. 11:00 we start seeing the clouds burn off. maybe even 70 degrees in santa cruz, high of about 73 by the

3:00 hour. and just a couple of things to keep in mind if you're going to be heading to the beach as well. please remember to look out for rip currents. if you get caught up in one, swim parallel. look out for beach and hazard warnings. it will be warning up nicely. over the next seven days what will make a difference is a building high pressure. if you notice it starts warming kind of back up, but we stay with pretty calm nice quiet weather through the fourth of july celebration. it's going to be perfect weather for lighting fire works. not a lot of foggy conditions into the afternoon, but unfortunately it does look like late at night we'll start seeing the buildup of that fog again. and then you might catch some drizzle along the coast. definitely keep that in mind. we'll be heading out to lighting fire works. inland areas as that high pressure builds in, 88. if you notice, by next weekend, we do warm right back up into those 90s. so yes, we are expecting to see some my pressure building in and that's going to bring a nice

. welcome back. it is 7:51 on your saturday morning. a live look outside from communications hill towards downtown san jose. kind of hazy out there but you can see the sun is shining. she says everybody across the bay will be seeing the sunshine today, but temperatures will be everywhere from the 60s to the 80s inland. it's been years in the making and tens of millions of dollars. b.a.r.t. is finally expanding to san jose. many areas near the station are worried about the traffic issues. today in the bay damian has this exclusive story from san jose. >> reporter: i'm on taylor street overpass. there are no on or off ramps. that's the b.a.r.t. station. neighbors tell me they are terrified what that means for traffic congestion in their

neighborhood. traffic flows steadily over the bridge every day. now neighbors are worried about the soon to be b.a.r.t. station next door and the 25,000 riders expected at the station by the year 2030. >> all that traffic is going to be routed on to residential streets and really degrade the quality of life for our neighborhoods. traffic is pretty heavy now without the b.a.r.t. station. >> a retired san jose cop who organized traffic control when the taylor street bridge was being built in the '90s. he says on and off ramps were part of the bridge's plans 20 years ago but they were never built and he wonders why they weren't included in the final plan for the b.a.r.t. station. >> i can't imagine what it's going to be like once the b.a.r.t. station is open for business. >> reporter: says after a traffic feasibility study it was determined on and off ramps were not needed.

>> we do unless in addition to getting input from the community. what was shown was there would not be an impact enough to be able to put in a ramp on the highway. >> reporter: studies show riders would come mainly from the south and east sides, area where they said it's already improving and expanding roads and bus lanes. >> the bottom line about the b.a.r.t. project is it's taking cars off the road, not putting cars on the road. >> reporter: he says he's not optimistic and will monitor the impact on his neighborhood. the city of san jose say they've been studying putting on and off ramps on the taylor street bridge for years, but the problem remains money. we're in san jose. i'm damian. nbc bay area news. >> for more details on the station, it's supposed to open early next year. 25,000 daily passengers are expected to use the station by the year 2030. travel time from san jose to san francisco will be about an hour. it's estimated cost is

$2.8 billion. we are getting our first look at the new bta undercrossing at the sane -- it starts at brokaw road, goes under the tracks and connects to the station. they call it a crucial connector to the future santa cla clara b.a.r.t. station. being the mayor doesn't mean you get out of jury duty. the mayor reported to the hall of justice to potentially fu fulfill his civic duty. >> i'm showing up for jury duty. >> does that mean you're not thinking of an excuse to get off jury duty? >> i served a lot of years as a prosecutor here at san jose and i can tell you i was grateful for those who took the service seriously. >> guess what? the mayor and his jury group were excused.
