u.s. officials say it landed in the sea of japan. it could be the most successful yet and given the potential range to reach alaska, it sends another message to washington. president trump tweeting north korea just launched another missile. hard to believe japan will put up with this much longer. perhaps china will end this once and for all. this isn't the first time north korea has tested missiles on the fourth of july. >> the last time they did this was in 2009 when they fired seven short range missiles into the sea of japan. today is a string of missile tests that they have conducted this year. it's their 11th one this year. like most other tests it seems to be designed to have the maximum geopolitical impact just after president trump spoke with leaders of south korea and japan about how to curb north korea and ahead of the g-20 meeting

later this week. according to u.s. pacific command it was a land based missile that was fired. japanese officials say the missile may have landed in waters claimed by japan as exclusive economic zone. the u.s. and south korea and japanese officials say the missile reached an altitude of 1,500 miles which would be longer and higher than any other similar tests previously reported. it also covered a distance of almost 600 miles. the u.s. and south korea say it was an intermediate range missile. north korea claimed to have tested an intercontinental missile. if confirmed the test launch would be a significant step towards a nuclear arm missile and appears to have been north korea's most successful missile test yet. >> thank you so much.

back here at home president trump wakes up in the white house this morning returning from a long weekend in new jersey just in time to ring in his first fourth of july as commander in chief. his first face-to-face with russia's vladimir putin since taking office and escalating tensions with north korea. >> reporter: president trump not seen but heard from his new jersey home making calls and making waves with three international hot spots making headlines in russia, europe and north korea. the president's first face-to-face meeting with vladimir putin set for the sidelines of the g-20 summit this week. today new tough talk fraum kremlin, a warning it is running out of patience with diplomatic shut downs. an open question as to whether and how president trump will

bring that up in his talk with putin. the president is laying groundwork for conversations with france and germany on the phone with their leaders chancellor angela merkel acknocking those discussions won't be easy. the president calling to focus on north korea. u.s. signaling it will get tougher strongly suggesting beijing do the same. president trump is weighing into a different controversy over a little boy named charlie guard in london who has a rare terminal disease. his parents want to take him to the u.s. for treatment. his doctors want to take the boy off life support. >> he is still fighting. >> reporter: president trump tweeted the u.s. would be delighted to help charlie if possible. his most recent tweet coming after several others, too, including one featuring a cnn logo, a fake fight generating real controversy and threatening

in houston a two alarm apartment fire touched off by fireworks. in pennsylvania a police chief lost part of his home and in tacoma, washington 17 year old lost most of his left hand. his chest and face covered in wounds. >> i didn't know it was going to go off that fast. i thought it was going to have at least two or three seconds to throw. >> nationwide as many as 11 people die and more than 11,000 people are injured in fireworks accidents each year. in fairfax county, virginia a demonstration of fireworks bought legally and driven across state lines. to replicate someone's hand the same explosion in a water melon.
