" it is the fourth of july on this tuesday. a live look from our emeryville camera. you do see some fog and haze out there. the fog is apparently not taking the holiday off. we love you but this is the one day we don't want to see it. i'm sam brock. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. they'll show the fireworks on tv lat later, too. happy fourth of july. >> happy fourth. it's going to be foggy as we've talked about over and over again. unfortunately, we're not going to see the fog rolling away from the coast. not today. so we are going to have some areas in the bay that will be nice and clear, but we do start out with the low clouds now in

san francisco that will be hard to clear for this afternoon. where you will get all clear skies in the south bay today our high temperatures reach into the mid-80s, it's going to be very warm and a few spots reaching low 90s like livermore. oakland at 74 degrees and 76 in san mateo, san francisco, because of the clouds and the fog, only makes it up to 64 degrees, and the mid-80s for the north bay in spots like santa rosa. i'll talk more about that and a look ahead. what you can expect this evening. vianey gets us out the door and a look at what's happening on the roadways. the roads are quiet as expect ed on this day. i have a feeling a lot of people are sleeping in. look at the speed sensors. green for go and not a lot of slowing anywhere for now, that is. we hope it stays that way. south bay drive times, to highway 87 13 minutes. to 101 about ten minutes. your bridge drive times look pretty good if you're trying to get ahead of possible traffic maybe heading into a fireworks show later. westbound 580 about eight

minutes. let's hope the traffic stays this way. back to you. >> thank you very much, vianey. breaking news in the south bay. a very active scene in the san jose neighborhood as police investigate a homicide. >> bob redell joins us live only a few blocks away from the san jose campus, bob. what do we know so far? >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. san jose police confirm this is a homicide, that one woman was shot and killed at the scene last night. it came in as a call around 5:00 last night. 911 center requesting a welfare check because whoever was calling in heard some loud bangs coming from inside a home here on south penn street. they did find a woman inside the home with at least one gunshot wound and she was sadly declared dead here on the scene. the san jose police department says so far they do not have a suspect. they have not made any arrests. they don't know what led up to

this, if this woman was targeted or if this was a random crime. they're still trying to figure this out as they are starting the fourth of july out trying to figure out who was behind what we believe is the 15th homicide in the city of san jose this year takinging place just about two and a half blocks away from the san jose state campus. reporting live here in san hjos, bob redell, "today in the bay." thank you very much, bob. 4:33 right now. new this morning, firefighters still at the scene of a home in danville which was partially destroyed by a late night fire. these are live pictures of the scene this morning. you see what's left. it happened at shelly place near danville boulevard. firefighters arrived a little after midnight to find the garage fully engulfed. the car was also destroyed. all four people inside got out safely. firefighters do not believe it was caused by fireworks. we have some developing news to get to out of north korea this morning. that country claims to have

successfully fired another ballistic missile into the ocean. it comes one day after officials from the united states, japan, and south korea all announced plans to ramp up pressure on that country and its president. president trump responded on twitter late last night say iin quote, north korea has just launched another missile. does this guy have anything better to do with his life? hard to believe that south korea and japan will put up with this much longer. perhaps china will put a heavy move on north korea and this nonsense once and for all. 4:34. a live look over san francisco this morning. what you can see of the city. tonight one of the largest fireworks shows on the west coast should light up the sky. will the weather cooperate? 10,000 fireworks will explode over a 25-minute show. pyro technicians have their work cut out for them. >> they'll have to cut through the fog. a behind-the-scenes preview of the preparations. >> reporter: very carefully,

that's how you load an explosive shell into its mortar. each one of the 10,000 shells that will be fired off is wired to computer that is programmed to coordinate with patriotic music. the two prime locations will be pier 39 and aquatic park where the barges will be towed. >> it's one of the largest on the west coast. >> reporter: the company jeff thomas works for will be putting on 400 fireworks shows, most of them on the west coast. the biggest challenge getting everything wired in properly, the biggest headache in san francisco is fog. he is preparing shells to explode at different altitudes. >> even it if there is some fog way up high we'll still have a viewing area in the lowest level. >> reporter: he can only remember a couple years when the fog came in so bad it spoiled the show. police have stockpiled barricades at the two primary viewing sites to keep people off the street, and they will have extra patrols along the entire embarcadero. >> you may see more officers that are armed as you did during

what do you think about pot for pets? this fourth of july a growing number had of dog owners are turning to cannabis products to make the holiday less stressful for little pooches. is it safe? >> a lot of people are wondering about that. taking a closer look at medical marijuana for canines. >> reporter: fireworks can do it a number on man's best friend. >> i don't want him to be stressed out over something like fireworks. >> reporter: this year they are trying a new anxiety remedy, medical marijuana for pets. >> if it's just for the

fireworks tomorrow, just do it tomorrow. >> reporter: dog treats are a seller. >> the response has been overwhelming that it helps calm them down. >> reporter: dog owners are using cannabis treats and drops to treat anxiety and pain. whi it's not the like the pot people use. >> the products we sell it's from industrial hemp and is less than 3%. it doesn't get the dogs high. >> reporter: at san francisco veterinary specialist dr. tom hanson has seen dogs in the e.r. after eating marijuana. he has not seen illness caused by the cbd products. while pet own eers tell them th seem to work he can't offer pet owners advice about them. >> we just don't know what the products are doing. there's a lot of anecdotal information but we don't have the science behind it because it's a schedule one drug. >> reporter: back at the

then those temperatures spread out as we go through the day from the low 60s in half moon bay to 89 in concord and livermore up to a hot 91. you hit the low 90s yesterday. you'll do it again today. as you look out the window you're getting ready to sport your red, white and blue. a day for some short sleeves and some shorts as our temperatures heat up unless you're in san francisco, and that's where you will still need a jacket. also in santa cruz it's going to be cool today. and if you are going to be driving over the summit at about 11:00 it will still be in the low 60s. you'll get there. it will be sunny but cool and in the upper 60s for this afternoon. so a nice one but still chilly. and then as we look at the day planner for oakland, it starts out cloudy. we'll be at 59 degrees at 8:00. noontime temperatures 67 degrees. beautiful day. comfortable temperatures. but the clouds will start to roll back in to oakland as well later on tonight. and there will be a high fire danger and the reason why we really have to stress this is because away from the coastline

the humidity will be low, dropping below 25%. this includes much of the south bay and the east bay hills, also parts of the north bay. this is where you do not want to spark anything because it could really cause a fire to get out of control very quickly. but along the coast the marine layer at 2,000 feet and then above that we have some very warm and dry companies. and then san francisco highs into the low to mid-60s and we keep the fog, the deep marine layer and heading into the weekend, inland areas will be very warm reaching into the upper 80s over the next several days, the weekend also looking very warm hitting 91 degrees on sunday. i'll have more on this and then some places where you can check out some fireworks coming up. vianey is tracking what's happening now if you're heading out to work this morning. >> not a whole lot. pretty smooth sailing across-the-board. our speed sensors, we're seeing a lot of green and so far chp

hill police officers credited with saving the lives of congressmen during a shoot-out at a baseball practice last month will will be honored. the d.c. society sons of the american revolution will present u.s. capitol police special agents with a law enforcement commendation medal. the two officers displayed bravery during a shooting while on protected detail at a baseball field in alexandria, virginia back in mid-june. the officers will be honored at the congressional cemetery in washington, d.c. all new jersey state parks are going to be reopened today after lawmakers say they struck a deal, a budget deal, to end the government shutdown. in the meantime governor chris christie continues to face heavy criticism after he was spotted with his family at island beach state park over the weekend. it was one of the numerous parks and beaches christie himself ordered shut down due to that budget stalemate. christie, who only has six month left in office and an approval rating of 15% before this blowup

of the head as the other guy stole his back pack. one witness saw the entire thing tried to intervene and ended up getting struck in the head, too. both victims were taken to a nearby hospital. one man who believed he was meeting a date at a fremont hotel ended up being robbed instead. now police say two people involved are in custody. it happened saturday night at a hotel not far from interstate 880. police say the victim planned to meet with a woman he met online. the gunman entered the room at about 11 clo:00 p.m. and robbed. the next day they found both the robber and the woman together and arrested the pair. police in besrkeley hope someone has surveillance images to crack a string of recent vandal attacks. police were called about a car that was tagged with spray paint on hillside avenue. what they found 13 cars all tag
