we'll talk about your fireworks, seems pretty quiet. >> very quiet and i have a feeling people who do have to work aren't going to mind at all because at least they won't be stressed on their way in this early morning. we are seeing a couple of speed sensors picking up construction spots. there isn't a the lot of traffic out on the road right now, it's a pretty smooth commute, pretty smooth sailing. coming up i do have a look at the mass transit. i'll have all those details coming up. we go back it to breaking news we continue to follow this morning out of the south bay where police continue to is y r surround a san jose neighborhood after a woman is found dead. >> what we know so far. >> reporter: san jose police have been out here now for about

12 hours near the intersection. if you're not familiar it's about two and a half blocks away from the san jose state campus. they are investigating what we believe by our count, the 15th homicide in the city of san jose. someone on the street reporting they heard loud bangs coming from inside one of the homes when the officers arrived, it turns out those loud bangs were were probably gunshots. they found a woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound and she, sadly, was declared dead on the scene. the san jose police department still has not identified a suspect. there's been no arrests and they don't know what led up to this, what the motive was, and if this woman was targeted or if this was a random crime. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> bob, thank you very much. developing overnight there

is word of another missile launch from north korea. tracie potts joining us live with president trump's reaction on twitter and also the pressure being placed on some of our allies this morning. good morning. good morning. and if this was what north korea said, long range, something that could reach all the way to the united states and carry a nuclear warhead or if it was the shorter range missile which is what south korea and the u.s. are thinking at least for now. another provocative action and the president is responding this morning. >> reporter: this morning north korea confirms its latest missile test. president trump tweets, perhaps china will put a heavy move on north korea and end this nons s nonsense once and for all. he meets with china's president

at the summit, also with angela merkel who is still leary of his stance. first face-to-face meeting with russian president vladimir putin. >> he will try to gain influns through his relationship with president trump. >> reporter: so far no official agenda. the white house is working out details. still unknown, will president trump confront putin with allegations that russia interfered in the presidential election. investigations into trump ties with russia -- >> hey, hey, ho, ho, donald trump has to go. >> reporter: are sparking more impeachment protests. >> when he fired fbi director comey. >> reporter: plus, this week new protests over health care. this mother's afraid her daughter could lose essential health benefits. >> and if those are ripped from her, that's going to leave her and many other families dead.

>> reporter: dozens of town halls are planned as washington celebrates independence with allies hoping the u.s. won't go it alone. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. >> thank you, tracie. at 5:05 new details this morning. san jose police looking for a man who led them on a car chase after nearly running over an officer sunday night on monterey road near capital expressway. police say the driver use add stolen vehicle and nearly hit an officer when police tried to block him. the car hit a parked car. officers then caught one passenger who tried to escape from the car. at one point the car sped off but hit another parked car. in all two people were arrested. the third still at large. did you hear that earlier this week? that is the sound of legal fireworks and a show at great

america in santa clara but it is the illegal ones that have police and firefighters across the bay area on high alert. in the meantime the city of san jose updated its online report illegal fireworks. people can post the address where it's happening, even add a picture or video. more than 600 reports were filed last july. at last check the city has already received 100 this year. >> we will follow up with an administrative citation if all the information is there. >> and it will cost you. in san jose fines range from $500 up to $1,000. 16 people were cited from the online submissions last year. >> there are some options for people who maybe are having too much fun and are no longer to drive safely. aaa offering free tow service to make sure you get home safe. it's the tipsy tow service. it will run through 6:00 tomorrow morning. make sure you use it if you need it. for anyone planning to take b.a.r.t. this fourth of july, they're running a sunday

schedule. service starts at 8:00 a.m. but will travel along three routes. longer trains will be in service and extra trains will be out during the evening. b.a.r.t. officials will run longer trains on the richmond train line for the a's game. 5:07 and what a sight to see and a rare one at that. no one out there on the bay bridge toll plaza but bay area drivers in general are fed up with what is typically gridlock. they would be willing to pay up to $3 more in tolls if that money went toward easing traffic according to a new poll put out by the bay area council and leadership group. that poll surveyed 9,000 homeowners. just about all agreed traffic was a serious problem. grades are in for bay area beaches as the annual beach report card arrives. grades are based on the water quality of the beaches, monitored by a santa monica based nonprofit. some got plus scores. among the top beaches on the

list aquatic park beach, pacifica in san mateo county and santa cruz natural bridges state beach. >> yosemite is seeing a spike in bear incidents. from may 27 to june 9, an increase from the same time last year. it is 5:08 on this fourth of july. we start out with some clouds. if you are making plans to head to the fourth of july parade at half moon bay at noon it will still be cloudy and it will be cool as well. temperatures right at about 60 degrees. and also some fireworks going on in san francisco, of course, and it is going to be cloudy. we do expect the fog to be an issue and that may block some visibility. we're going to see some mainly clear skies for the inland areas. if you're heading to the south bay, great america fireworks show will be at 9:45 and it will

be in the mid-60s with all clear skies heading into this evening. so all the inland areas are going to be clear while we will see some of the fog causing some issues for the fireworks shows. vianey, anyone heading out early this morning, any issues? >> not a lot of issues out on the road but i do want to give a heads-up to mass transit. if this is your form of commute on this day you have a couple of changes that you need to be made aware of. b.a.r.t. running on a sunday schedule. and ace will have no trains today because of the holiday. cal train will be running on a sunday schedule and so will the vta. if you wanted to check out those schedules logon to any of their websites and they do have the changes just to keep you informed. i'll send things back to you. >> thank you, vianey. 5:09. an alarming trend, the disturbing new audit that shows flaws in pipeline inspections. and no stock market this morning but hit a new record interday yesterday. we'll tell you all about it in

5:13 on the fourth of july. good morning. all clear skies looking over the south bay. a live look now. the temperature trend for willow glen as we start out in the mid-60s and nice and clear throughout the day. it will be warm this afternoon reaching into the low 80s just a little bit warmer than where we should be for this day in july. now as we head into the next several days our temperatures are heating up in a few spots. i'll have a look at that coming up at 5:18. and a quick reminder just in case you missed it, if you do take mass transit, b.a.r.t. is on a sunday schedule. ace transit will have no trains for fourth of july. cal train will also be on a sunday schedule. thank you, vianey. 5:13 right now. a new audit find problems with the way one contractor conducted

palo alto pipeline inspections. it reports the city spent $3 million on inspections in the aftermath of the pipeline blast but the audit find the company hydro max, the firm the palo alto contracted for the job, never inspected some of the lines. the audits says hydro max only completed half of the necessary inspections and that some of the reports were inaccurate. rents went up in june nationally but the bay area homeowners were hit harder than most. a new report found most bay area rents rose double the national rate. the national median range for a two-bedroom apartment was up $1,150 up nearly 3% from last year. in san jose the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment was $2,0 $2,000. >> two bay area high tech bigwigs want to reboot the democratic party. >> scott mcgrew joins us now. it's been tried before. it's more needed than ever.

the democratic party has faced just about every turn and ceo reid hoffman on the left and mark pincus on the right say they'll create a new group called win the future and that does abbreviate to wtf. they want to help democrats find better candidates. this is not the first time big money has gotten itself involved in politics. hillary clinton took a lot of criticism for her association with big money, mostly out of wall street. silicon valley tend to have a better reputation. president trump, meanwhile, says the world does not give him enough credit for america's good economy. he points to great jobs numbers, new stock market records. one of his latest tweets the dow hit a new intraday all-time high. i wonder whether the fake news media will so report. we actually do that every day. now new intraday all-time high on monday as we were mentioning yesterday the nasdaq closed the first half of the year with the best performance since 2009. we get the big jobs number on

friday. and things at chase back are back to normal after computer problems all over the yunited states. customers said atms wouldn't work. the app wouldn't connect. chase did not explain specifically what went but my own quick check myself everything seems to be back. your money was still there? >> yes, yes. where is the $12 million? >> they reimbursed you for all of that? i like that strategy. thank you, mcgrew. if you have not heard, independence day today. in utah one group -- you're skeptical, scott -- one group of people want to show patriotism in a very big way. a volunteer group is going to unfurl the largest flag ever flown over american soil. this flag is so big it is flying between two different mountains. how the founder of the group says the giant flag will be a display of gratitude towards veterans. >> it's a simple act of a flag in a canyon but what they

our temperatures will be nice and cool along the coast today as a result. we are starting out most of us in the mid to upper 50s. check out santa rosa. a cool start and 49 degrees there. the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen. you see in san francisco our temperatures pretty much stay the same as we go through the week. more changes for spots like the south bay where today we'll be up to 86 degrees in it gilroy and east san jose. 87 in antioch and 74 degrees today in oakland. the peninsula will had keep the clouds and the fog at half moon bay in time for the parade today and for palo alto a high of 80 degrees. some mid-60s for the embarcadero and the mission district today. 59 in point reyes. all cool and foggy while santa rosa bright and sunny and 85 degrees. if you're getting ready, we are going to have a lot of events going on including the parade in san jose that starts out at 10:00. and then a lot more festivities lout the day leading up to the fireworks. it will be warm, though. make sure you bring some bottles

of water and sunscreen. all of that bright sunshine throughout the day. and we are advising you not it to light your own fireworks because we will have a high fire danger. the humidity will be very low causing a high fire danger and those breezy winds from the southwest at about 10 to 20 miles an hour. if you're about to hit the road heading to heavenly highs reaching into the low 80s . some gorgeous weather there. also for the bay area. but we are going to have the low clouds and fog later on tonight in san francisco that may block your view from some of the fireworks. i think they'll be firing them off where they explode at a lower level. and for the interior parts of the bay area no issues there, all clear, and temperatures heating into the upper 80s. vianey, what's happening on the road so far? we're off to a smiling start at least when it comes to the roads because no traffic incidents to report at this point. chp is reporting overall a smooth commute. a couple of fender benders overnight but nothing major which is why our speed sensors

a hot car in boynton beach florida... thanks to a stranger-- this dog pretty close call for a dog stuck in a car in boynton beach, florida. thanks to a stranger the dog is getting a second chance. someone walking by yesterday morning spotted him inside with the windows rolled up. officers spent several minutes going from store to store trying to locate the owner. you saw what they did there. they broke that window just to

get that dog out and give him some much-needed water. about 15 minutes later the dog's owner finally returned to the car and police issued her a citation. >> hopefully she got a good talking to as well. a developing story and at least ten people recovering after a driver plowed into a group of cab drivers. this was near boston's air pour, logan, yesterday. police say a taxi driver jumped the curb, sending the car into an area near the airport. that is where cab drivers typically hang out at picnic tables there waiting for their next fare. ten people were taken to area hospitals as a result. their injuries range from minor to serious. police say the incident was not an act of terror and does appear to be an accident. 35675:24. tiger woods is speaking out about his treatment. he's completed his intensive program and went on to say he will continue to tackle this going forward with his doctors, family, and friends. it comes a month after the golf

star was arrested on dui charges. police found woods asleep and disoriented in a car on a florida highway, a condition he said was caused by unexpected reabc to medication. the 14-time major champion is due in court for his arraignment on august 9th. 5:25 this morning. nbc bay area responds to a san ramon man charged a trouble fee when the trouble wasn't his fault. >> our assumer team helped him out. chris chmura joins us now with the story. he says the new remote for his new xfinity service quit working. he called comcast and was told to exchange it at a nearby comcast location. and he did. but osborne says that one department work right either. so he called comcast and it sent out a tech to trouble shoot. all was okay until osborne got his next bill and saw a $0 trouble call charge. osborne says he was never told

covering up the city's skyline. hopefully it will part before the fireworks tonight. good morning and thank you for joining us on this tuesday. i'm sam brock. >> and i'm law. straight to that forecast right now. see how things are looking a lot of barbecues, kari. >> a lot of barbecues, hanging out by the pool, spending time with family and watching fireworks shows. it will depend on whether or not you can see it because of the fog. now it looks like that will not clear for san francisco and half moon bay along coast line. all clear from oakland as we will see mostly clear skies in spots like san rafael. if you're going there for the marin county fair, comfortable temperatures in time for the fireworks. temperatures cool off quickly. where you can view some fireworks at the bottom of the

screen. vianey takes us out there on the roadways. what else is comfortable the roads, the commute is smooth. on this fourth of july tuesday and the drive times for the bridges westbound 580 about eight minutes. westbound 80 about nine minute and westbound 2 towards the san mateo bridge about 12 minutes. i can tell you yesterday they didn't turn on the metering lights until about 10:30 which is usually unheard of. they should already be on. break iing news to get to right now out of antioch where we're just learning that a gas station shooting is now both a homicide and an officer involved shooting investigation. what you're looking at here is video from last night at the valero gas station. that violence all unfolding around 8:00 last night but

antioch police just sent us new information within the last few minutes. here is what we know. police tell us there was a robbery and homicide at that valero and new this morning at some point antioch police officer opened fire. we're told the homicide was not a result of the officer involved shooting. police are not saying who was killed but we have calls in to investigators right now to get you more information. 10,000 fireworks will explode over a 25-minute show in san francisco tonight. >> security is expected to be extra tight as thousands flock to the city to see this. pe pete suratos is live in san francisco with the preparations under way this morning at pier 39, one of the popular spots to watch, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laurie. we are standing here at pier 39. this will be one of the top viewing spots for the annual fourth of july fireworks shows here in san francisco.

>> a barricade at spots such as aquatic park and here at pier 39 as well as adding extra patrols. >> you may see more officers armed as we did during pride. i mean, more armed. >> reporter: as for the show the fireworks loaded on to the barges and towed out to the bay this afternoon. weather can be a factor. producers are preparing shells to explode at different altitudes. i did speak with pier 39 lease. they will line up as early as this afternoon. the show will begin tonight at 9:30 p.m.

heart after being released from the hospital last night. her third child, an infant, is still fighting for his life this morning. reyes lost her 10-year-old son lorenzo and 5-year-old son vincent friday night as she was driving home from a cop cord movie theater. the chp says the driver of an infinity slammed into her dodge durango on the highway 4 off ramp at solano avenue and then left the scene. he blind sided me. i never saw anything. i didn't hear tires screeching. ran away. >> police arrested 35 ye-year-o lemuel wilson jr. saturday night after he checked into the hospital for treatment and to turn himself in. he's facing two counts of vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident causing great bodily injury. 5:36 right now. police in berkeley are hoping someone may have surveillance images that can help them crack a string of recent vandal

minutes. let's give you a quick check of your tri-valley drive times, westbound 580 to 680 about 18 minutes. southbound 680, about ten minutes westbound 84 towards 680 about eight minutes. kari, vianey, thank you very much. all new this morning you're looking at some live images this morning of firefighters who are still on the scene of a house fire in danville. it was partly destroyed by a late night fire. these are live pictures of the scene this morning. that house is very damaged. it's going on at shelly place. firefighters arrived a little after midnight to find the garage fully engulfed. the car was also destroyed in the flames. all four people inside did get out safely. firefighters do not believe this was caused by fireworks. here's a novel idea. pot for pets this fourth of j y july. a growing number of dog owners are turning to cannabis products to try to make the holiday less stressful for their pooch. >> at holistic hound in

berkeley, dog treats are a pretty big seller. dog owners are using cannabis treats and drops to try to treat anxiety and pain. it's not like the pot that people use. >> the products that we sell and what makes it legal it's derived from industrial hemp and is less than 0.3% so it doesn't get the dogs high. >> veterinarians we talked to say they have not seen illness caused by the cbd product while there's a lot of anecdotally evidence the products work there is no scientific evidence. that's because marijuana is still a class one drug and it cannot be studied. without scientific evidence vets are not allowed to give advice about the products. well, plans are reportedly going to move forward to expand the los vaqueros reservoir between brentwood and livermore. the east bay times reporting contra costa county's water district released studies on that. the district scheduled six

meetings throughout july to discuss eideas for that expansin as well. other bay area water agencies are helping to put the project together and hope to benefit from the expansion that would double the size of the reservoir. a new crisis for president trump. north korea says it has successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile. >> that would be a game changer. >> it would be, laura. north korea had nuclear weapons. we know that because they set a few off in tests but they've had no way of getting them to us. new reports on north korean television say the country has tested a missile that can reach north america, at least theoretically. the tv reports showing stills of the test here. now we have some video out of pyongyang of people watching those tv reports about the test. as you well know not everything the north korean government and its government run media say is necessarily the truth. officially back here at home the u.s. military says it's aware of

the launch but they cannot verify. it may be an interimmediate range missile. president trump says north korea has just launched another missile. does this guy have anything better to do with had his life? hard to believe the south korea and japan will put up with this much longer. perhaps china will put a heavy move on north korea and end this nonsense once and for all. there really are not a lot of options for the president. do nothing in north korea will develop a missile capable of hitting our west coast. attacking to lead to the deaths of millions of people. seoul, south korea, is 35 miles south of the about the distance between the golden gate bridge and sfo, well within range of the north koreans. the president had will leave for europe tomorrow where he'll make a stop in poland before going to hamburg, germany to meet with the g-20 group of nations. one thing to watch, how he's
