cloudy at 8:00. look at how warm it gets today, back into the low 80s. we'll talk with about some even hotter temperatures in the forecast coming up. vianey, how is it looking on the roads so far? >> still pretty good but i hope it stays this way because even though we're seeing a couple more cars out there early on this morning during the 6:00 a.m. hour yesterday it was pretty much empty out on the roads. southbound 680 to vargas road. to highway 84 about four minutes. we were seeing reports of a brush fire along southbound 880. it looks like that fire has been put out and everyone is safe.ixç northbound 17 to highway 101 about eight minutes this is where we're showing total.

12 minutes and westbound 92 towards the mateo bridge about a 16-minute delay because metering lights turned on quite early this morning. take a look at the san mateo bridge. we're seeing a lot more cars out there this morning. back to you. >> thank you very much, vianey. 6:01 right now. this is a live look from san jose where firefighters are still monitoring for hot spots after a fire at an abandoned building. we have some video to show you of that fire at its peak started after 2:00 this morning in a building that used to be housing for medical offices. fire investigators do not believe it was caused by fireworks. they say it actually may have been caused by homeless people living inside. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live at the scene talking to investigators overnight. he'll bring us an update in a live report at 6:30. all new this morning we've learned at least ten people were arrested during violent

incidents at one of the most popular county fairs. >> it happened it at the alameda county fair grounds on a day people were sproesed to be celebrating. pete suratos is live this morning to explain why deputies had to use force to get the situation under control, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and sam. sheriff's deputies had to use batons and pepper spray to maintain control of some of these incidents. we have new video of two people getting arrested. you see two women surrounded by cops. and as you mentioned ten people altogether were arrested ranging in age between 15 to 20 years old. now according to alameda county sheriff's office they responded to several fights last night throughout the evening during this fourth of july event. now there was a heavy police presence thankfully to deal with these incidents as the sheriff's office worked with the chp and pleasanton police departments. a sheriff's deputy explained how last night's fourth of july event compared to previous. >> i've been at the county fair

for a number of years. it is a safe environment. but, unfortunately today, this fourth of july, we saw a crowd enter the fair grounds that were interested in chaos and anarchy. >> reporter: now that sheriff's deputy there went on to call last night's event unique. groups causing trouble. the juveniles were released to their parents. the adults were arrested and were taken to jail. life in pleasanton, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you, pete. breaking news to bring to you this morning out of new york and a 12-year veteran of the nypd is dead after she was shot while sitting in her patrol car. police are calling the shooting unprovoked. it happened early this morning in the bronx. the officer, miosotis familia, was in a marked vehicle with her partner at the time when someone shot through the window striking the officer in the head. just in to our newsroom the dispatch audio of the frantic moments just after the shooting. some of the audio could be a

[ bleep ] [ bleep ] [ inaudible ] >> the location? >> my partner is shot! >> you could hear that last little bit, my partner is shot. officer familia was taken to a hospital where she later died. two police officers shortly after this spotted a man running down the street just a block away from where the shooting happened. police say that man drew a gun when police officers approached forcing them to shoot and kill him. the police have not said if the gun they recovered from the man on scene is the same weapon that was used to kill the officer. at 6:04 new this morning we are getting our first look at video of the intercontinental ballistic missile launch out of north korea. state broadcast aired this video early this morning.

the missile was launched our time and fell into the sea between the korean peninsula and japan analysts say it could be capable of reaching alaska. an emergency u.n. security council meeting about escalating tensions. within the past hour president trump tweeted trade between china and north korea grew almost 40% in the first quarter. so much for china working with us, but we had to give it a try. earlier this year trump had asked china to step in. >> no doubt that will be one of the headlines of the g-20 summit this week. all of this coming as president trump heading overseas this morning and still a looming question about his one-on-one meeting with russian president vladimir putin on friday. >> will he or won't he bring up russia's role in the presidential election? he's going to poland first also to talk about russia, countries in eastern europe are concerned about russian aggression in that area. president trump going to reassure them sitting down with russia's leader. today poland is preparing for the arrival of president trump . he'll join a conference of central european and baltic nations and give a major speech in warsaw to reassure nato allies that america won't abandon them. >> a lot of our eastern european allies are very concerned about russia's aggression in the last few years. >> reporter: that could come up in a much tis pated meeting with russia's president at the g-20 summit on friday, it their first. the white house says there's no official agenda. >> the fact you're going into this thing, that you have no agenda, i think speaks volumes to the preparedness of this president. >> reporter: the administration isn't giving any clues whether the president will confront vladimir pugh at this point putin about interfering. >> it will be the thing that

everyone will talk about if they don't address it. >> if he doesn't bring up interference in the 2016 election he's going to convey to putin that he's weak. >> reporter: the g-20 sure to discuss responding to north korea's latest missile launch. >> we're very close, much closer than we've been in previous administrations where real mi military collision with north korea. >> reporter: president trump is hoping to put frepressure on an ally, china, to intervene. and we do now know that it was that long-range missile that north korea tested which has the capability reaching all the way to alaska, and that's why the u.n. security counscil is meetig today. >> all right, tracie potts, thank you very much. right now let's take a look at this. a major problem with illegal fireworks in the east bay. this was the view from sky ranger over oakland late last night. you can see all of the illegal

fireworks that were lit there and all sorts of communities for the fourth of july, and it was not just in oakland that there were issues. there were plenty of unplanned and illegal fireworks in the south bay, too. that was the case in several san jose neighborhoods overnight. we rode along with the fire department as they responded to calls all night long. actually their busiest day of the year last year and again this year. firefighters say they had trouble just driving down the street in an emergency. >> when they respond, sometimes there's access issues. sometimes there's such an abundance of fireworks that our crews are having getting to the event. >> two fire investigators teamed up with police to issue tickets for illegal fireworks. we do not have word yet on how many fines they handed out. ♪ this the meantime great america's fireworks show didn't go on without a hitch. apparently there was a problem that created a 20-minute delay

in the finale. viewers tell us the show abruptly stopped for some reason. then as they began leaving the finale suddenly lit up the sky. a park spokesperson acknowledged the problem but has not said exactly what happened. 6:09 right now. illegal left it turns have palo alto homeowners calling for better traffic enforcement. the city is testing a year long pilot program to improve traffic safety. left turns onto middle field were a problem at hawthorne and everett avenues. the city expanded restrictions on them in june. it is 6:09. as we get ready to head out the door, a look from twin peaks, still all cloudy this morning. we're going above the clouds looking from sunol, a beautiful sun rise this morning and temperatures today topping out at 89 degrees in concord. 88 in livermore and morgan hills and 63 degrees today in san francisco.

it is 6:14 with some cloudy skies as we take a live look outside in san jose and as we go into this afternoon we are going to see those temperatures that will start out in the upper 60s at 10:00 with some bright sunshine, warm into the low 80s as we go through the day. we are continuing the warm weather the past couple of days. as we head into the weekend, it gets even hotter. a look at those temperatures coming up at 6:19. >> it's definitely busier on the roads but no major delays for the south bay. northbound 101 towards highway 87 about 12 minutes. northbound 17 towards highway 101 about eight minutes. >> thank you, kari and vianey.

6:15 right now. terrifying moments for a lodi man suffering from major injuries this man after a fire work exploded this his hand. it happened while he was sitting inside of this car. police releasing those photos after somebody reported the explosion about 3:00 yesterday afternoon. when lease got to the scene they found a heavily cracked wind and blood on the door of the car. we hope he's okay. three people hurt this morning as well after a home exploded in missouri on the fourth of july. it happened in st. joseph yesterday morning. and as you can see that's the home there in the distance reduce d to rubble following th explosion. officials say three people were pulled from the house by neighbors who ran to their rescue. they're all expected to be okay but the cause of the explosion is still a mystery this morning. new video in to our newsroom this morning showing an intense rescue. strangers jumping into action to pull a truck driver to safety after his truck crashed and overturned on a pennsylvania highway. cell phone video shows the

tractor-trailer was driving erratically. you can see here the truck weaving back forth before it crashed and eventually overturned spilling its contents all over the highway. then several people rushed to the driver's aid. you saw that video early. they smashed the windshield to help free the driver. still no word on how he's doing this morning. more video to show you that morning, this out of southern california. police officers smashing into a driver after a police chase. it happened late last night in los angeles. officers use add pit maneuver there of they hit the bumper, spun the car out of control before it slammed into a light post. the driver of the vehicle followed the officer's instructions after that. and was taken into custody without further incident. to some business and tech news this morning. wall street could come under some early pressure at the opening bell today after a mixed session on mon. saw the dow briefly touch an all-time high.

monday the dow rose to 21,479. the nasdaq dropped to 6110. european markets are mixed this morning, but asia was mostly higher as investors appear to be shrugging off the latest missile launch. volvo says it will be making cars with only electric motors starting in 2019. it will become the first traditional automaker to stop producing vehicles powered by a gasoline engine. had they will have three types. samsung is reportedly working on a smart speaker powered by its new voice assistant. not too much else is known about the device including what kind of features and release date it will have. the samsung speaker is entering a crowd market with amazon's echo, google home, microsoft's cortana and apple home pod. thousands of people are celebrating summer and the fourth of july holiday week in it lake tahoe.

they're noticinging something different about the beaches this year. >> yeah, something missing. there is less line to party on. advivisitors had to camp up hig on the bank. experts say the winter storms created so much snow the melting run-off raised water levels higher than normal. lake tahoe was considered full for the first time in 11 years. >> obviously after the winter we had and all the snow it was unprecedented this year. totally awesome. >> a state park supervisor said nearly two-thirpdz of tahoe beaches are under water. like the entire bay area was at tahoe this week. >> you were out there on the lake. >> got a little sun. >> you're looking good. >> i love lake tahoe. one of the best places especially when it's so warm here. >> we're going to talk about heavenly's forecast because it will be warm there as well bay area heats up over the next couple of days and even though we start out with the clouds and the fog that will do nothing to help us out for the interior

parts of the bay while the coast does stay cool. a wide range in temperatures still expected. you're still seeing the clouds block your view of the fireworks last night. as you get ready to head out the door it's cloudy and we see temperatures that will be heading throughout the day into the lower 80s in milpitas and upper 80s for the south county. 87 degrees in danville. hayward up to 76 degrees. and for the pen iinsula also a wide range in temperatures from 60 in half moon bay to 73 degrees in san mateo. san francisco will keep those low to mid-60s today. the embarcadero up to 64 degrees. and 79 degrees in santa rosa. nice temperature there but it does start to heat up in napa and knnovato up to 83 degrees. if you make plans to head to n santa cruz, maybe you have the week off from the fourth of july and you are going to spend time out at the beach, it will reach into the low 70s today and then for some of the hiking trails along the peninsula especially near the coast it stays foggy and cool, very nice place for

extra outdoor activities as we will get only peeks of sunshine today up to 58 degrees at 2:00. we talked about heavenly. here is a live view right now from the heavenly observation deck and into the next couple of days as we start to warm up. it's also going to warm up in the sierra, up to 84 degrees on friday. that leads us into a warm weather for the weekend while san francisco will stay in the mid-60s and inland areas will reach into the mid-90s for the next four days after today. get ready for some very hot temperatures. as we head over to vianey, we're seeing a lot more cars out there on the roadways this morning. a lot more cars. i do hope everyone is safe and chp hasn't reported any major incidents as of this hour and we can see that the speed sensors remain fairly green which typically means no major slowing but we are starting to see some of the buildup especially along the bridges. westbound 580 got eight minutes.

beef is making a comeback. the average american, comes after a decade when beef consumption plummeted 15% across the country. analysts say low prices may have helped spur that comeback. school may be out for summer but a lot of kids are choosing to go to class. a growing number of teenagers are going to summer school. the number of teens enrolled in july of last year was more than four times higher than july of 1985. they're also earning a paycheck. last year more than 23 million teenagers and young adults were working or looking for a job and spent time volunteering. some of america's most se celebrated heroes are in the spotlight as the u.s. armed forces compete against one

mid-60s. also a lot of fog and some clouds as we start out the day, but a little bit of clearing for the afternoon. and for the inland areas we're going to see the sunshine once again, highs in the upper 80s and some low 90s. and then as we head into the weekend we are going to see some really hot temperatures. i'll talk about that. your weekend forecast is coming up in six minutes. vianey right now gets you out the door and what it looks like on the roadways as you head back to work. >> i think folks need to prepare for more cars out on the road and early morning traffic. but as of right now our speed sensors show that regular daily commute. however, we are still seeing delays along the san ma teo bridge and it appears to have been due to a stalled car out there earlier. they have moved out to the side but it's still showing delays. westbound 92 to the san mateo bridge and we're seeing those metering lights along the bay bridge. and a live look as you can see there's still that stop and go traffic so you want to head out now. back to you.

>> all right, thank you, vianey. 6:30 right now. following breaking news this morning out of the south bay where firefighters remain on the scene of a building fire that triggered a major response. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell has been on scene since we came on the air. what's going on? >> reporter: what you're seeing now is a lot of the san jose fire department units are packing up and leaving. there are still some on site on the other side of this building which you can see the damage from the fire and the fire of course being out right now. if you look at this video you can see how serious the fire was when it started overnoit and what kind of challenges it posed for the fire department. what burned was a long, narrow abandoned building, partially two story, single story located on williams road not far from the intersection of the expressway. it started around 2:20. the fire department started to make an attack when one of their water supply lines burst.

the fire vented to the roof. let the fire burn as long as they can keep it contained. it was a big deal because had is a very residential area. there's a lot of homes that border this abandoned building. we did speak with neighbors who did hear works last night but a fire captain we spoke with does not the think that was the cause. believes it might have been homeless people who had been living on this property. >> it's an ongoing situation with homeless population so we always want to make sure we're cognizant of making sure they have a safe place to stay. in this case it's very common for boarded up places to become de facto homeless encampments. the fire did start inside. >> reporter: the fire captain tells us they heard from neighbors who did see some people leaving the property

around the time of the fire. the firefighters did search the interior. fortunately did not find anyone inside. they did evacuate two homes nearby and had other people shelter in place. the concern was carbon mon oxid poisoning from all the smoke. everyone is okay. bob redell, "today in the bay." 6:33. new details on a story we brought to you as breaking news yesterday on "today in the bay." a killer armed and dangerous is still on the run this morning after shoot iing a young woman a house right near the san jose state campus. swarming this house about 5:00 p.m. last night after someone called 911 possible gunshots heard inside. officers searched the home. they found a 20-year-old woman in a room shot to death. neighbors who did not want to be seen on camera say the house had constant loud activity. one person even referred to it as animal house. >> i did hear, like i said, you know, arguing between two people but never something i would

imagine something like this would actually happen. >> police say the house is rented out by two college students but would not say if they're involved in the homicide. so far there is no information about a suspect. >> it is 6:34. a three-month-old boy remains in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash that his two brothers. the family spokesperson tells us the baby is still unable to breathe on his own. aida reyes lost her 10-year-old and 5-year-old sons friday night when she was driving home from a concord movie theater. chp says another driver slammed into her car on highway 4 off ramp at so llano avenue and the left the scene. police arrested 35-year-old lemuel wilson jr. he is facing two counts of vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident causing great bodily injury. well, a san jose earthquake soccer player in critical condition this morning after an accident at lake tahoe. in a statement released by the

team, silva had to be pulled out of the water while swimming in lake tahoe yesterday. he was rushed to the hospital. again, he is still in critical condition. silva is on loan from the earthquake aquill yat in reno. this holiday week is proving to be a busy one for local parks. the east bay was packed in pleasanton yesterday. rangers eventually had to stop allowing guests to come in. they were closed after reaching capacity. ♪ that's the ground level view from san francisco last night. the biggest fireworks show in the bay area could not be seen by many because of all that fog. thousands of people crowding along the waterfront in san francisco to see the fourth of july celebration. they had a great time nonetheless. for many of the fireworks, food and fun on fisherman's wharf. people say despite the weather they enjoyed the show.

>> lots of people. lots of energy. it would have been nice if the fog wasn't so low. >> i think it's fantastic. it's just the cloud cover. >> what are you going to do about that? it was chilly out there. lot of people maybe dancing to stay warm. they also ended up buying fleece sweatshirts, and those are always the number one seller on the fourth of july. 6:36. july fourth celebrations on "the uss who ahornet" had an abrupt due to a power outage in a.m. me da. the outages reported about 3:30 in the afternoon. "the uss hornet" had started celebrations at 2:00. it lost power about 90 minutes later. museum officials evacuated the ship for safety concerns and because they couldn't be sure when the power would be fully restored. they decided to cancel the event. and it is 6:36. so far chp has only reported minor incidents out on the road this morning. our speed sensors are still

showing an overall pretty clear map which means it's pretty easy, breezy commute although do take some extra time because it looks like a lot of people are heading back to work, 101 to highway 87. about 12 minutes. and northbound 17 to 101 about eight minutes. we're also seeing back to reality for mass transit. they are back on their regular schedule and as of now no major delays on any of those. we are also expecting to see a couple more areas pick up including the bay bridge toll plaza. this has been busy since about the 5:00 a.m. hour and that's because that's around the time metering lights turned on. that's ay normal picture for an early morning day of the week. >> now back to normal. a lot of people had a long weekend. >> which is a nice thing, of course, because you have fewer days left until we get to the next weekend. we're already halfway through the week. >> if you're looking forward to the weekend, keep in mind we'll have a wide range in temperatures like we're

experiencing right now, and we keep the fog along the coast looking at saturday's forecast up to 65 degrees while the bay will be warming up to 82 and 92 for the interior valleys. and we're going to see even hotter temperatures on sunday up to 94 degrees. the bay at 0 degrees and 67 degrees for the coast. so you may be making plans to head somewhere like san francisco. this looks like a cooley vent to check out on. the low rider contest starting at ft. mason. so you may see the low riders driving around the city and we will have some cloudy skies to start. temperatures reaching into the upper 60s. so you may have the top down on the convertible. or if you're planning to head to the alameda county fair on sunday it's the last day, and those temperatures will be hot to start in the upper 80s by 5:00. so maybe you'll make plans to head there throughout the evening as temperatures cool back down into the 60s. here's a live look outside in the sierra and we've had some

a day for short sloefs and shorts. maybe you want to head somewhere nice and cool like the peninsula going on the hiking trails in spots like the half moon bay. we stay in the upper 50s and only a little bit of sunshine there. breezy ones. ing the links you might want to start out early our temperatures go from the upper 60s to upper 70s and it continues to heat up from there to the low 90s by this afternoon. we're going to have some nice weather in oakland today. lunch time temperature will be perfect, 67 degrees. san francisco keeps it cool over the next several days. here and there for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

for the inland areas look at how hot it gets heading into the weekend. i'll talk more about that. vianey gets us out on the roadways with where we may have slow spots. it's kwquiet in terms of incidents. speed sensors show the typical morning backup along the east bay. the tri-valley is seeing some delays towards 680. it looks like a minor fender-bender has been moved off to the side. south bay drive times probably one of the smoothest commutes so far this morning. northbound 87 to 101 about 12 minutes. a live look outside at palo alto. as i mentioned probably one of the smoother commutes this early morning.

burst. nearby houses had to be evacuated but the homeowners are back home. breaking news out of new york and a 12-year veteran of the nypd is dead after she was shot while sitting in her patrol car. this happened in the bronx overnight. police are calling the shooting un unprovoked. she was in a marked vehicle when someone shot later died there. police say he pulled a gun forcing them to shoot and kill him. in the bay a area overnight this is the view from nbc bay area sky ranger.
