to see low 90s there in spots like liver more, oakland 71. san francisco will be topping out in the mid to upper 60s while we will have more 90s in the north bay and santa rosa. we'll talk more about this and what's ahead through the week. any problem spots on the road early this morning? >> so far i may be tracking what looks to be a minor fender bender and might be blocking a partial part of the on-ramp. 280 at winchester. looks like as of right now, the speed sensors aren't picking up any slowing but i'm sure they'll clear it out in time for the 5:00 a.m. hour traffic. south bay drive times, no slowing. northbound 101 highway 85 to 87, 13 moneys. northbound 87 highway 85 from 101, 10 minutes. back to you. >> thank you. breaking news, we are learning more information about a deadly shooting in san

francisco that happened a few hours ago near the bart station at 24th and mission. popular and a busy part of the city. >> pete suratos joinses live in san francisco. still an active crime scene behind you there. >> reporter: good morning to you. definitely an active scene at 24th and mission. we are steps away from that bart station. want to show you where the homicide investigation is taking place over there over my shoulder. in front of the bar where that investigation is focused at this time. the information is limited on exactly what happened but let's show you the video when it was a more active scene earlier this morning. according to sfpd they reported to a shooting call and they found a male dead from an apparently gunshot wound. now, want to point out as far as information on the bar, we know that it closes at about 3:00 a.m. the gunshots or the shots fire

happened around 2:30 a.m. so just before closing time but it's stale very active scene here with san francisco police really shutting down this area near the bart station at 24th and mission. of course, getting more information as far as details on the shooting we'll bring it to you in the newsroom. live in san francisco, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you. not far from the scene of the homicide investigation, damage to a san francisco police cruiser. vandals throwing what appears to be a bathroom sink through the back window of the police cruiser. it happened at 24th and mission. not clear at this point if this ins accident connected to the nearby activity of the homicide investigation that pete just brought us in the live report. all right. just a crazy news morning in general. a dramatic high-speed chase in the city's streets and highways of oakland. >> cameras were rolling as the suspect crisscrossed the city

streets at 100 miles per hour. pretty loud sirens there. that was the scene last night around 10:00. oakland police and chp deputies in pursuit of a suv. that chase lasted roughly 90 minutes and ending at 24th street in west oakland. a crowd was there to watch officers arrest that suspect. they even gave a round of applause. we're still waiting for the reason why the chase started. we'll let you know when we find out. the parents of a young man shot and killed while playing pokemon go in san francisco still looking for information on their son's killer and they're going to announce a reward in the case this morning. 20-year-old calvin riley was killed last august. baseball player who went to high school in san matteo and playing college ball in stockton, playing pokemon go on the phone when someone shot him. his parents are teaming up with a congresswoman for a $50,000

reward for any information leads to an arrest in that case. continuing coverage on brush fire burning in rodeo in contra costa county. the flames ignited yesterday afternoon threatening phillips oil refinery. it was 90% contained after 400 acres burned. developing across the state, firefighters stretched to the limit battling close to 20 separate wildfires. this cal fire map highlights the many fires burning. the fires also forced thousands of people from the homes in northern and southern california. mandatory evacuations near oreville where the wall fire burned nearly four square miles and destroyed at least 17 structures. it is 25% contained. exodus of evacuees over the weekend caused many people searching for somewhere to sleep. >> from the mobile home park last night on the bullhorn telling everybody mandatory to

leave. >> reporter: for the south, three fires in santa barbara are still burning but conditions are supposed to improve. let's hope so. over the next few days. >> thank goodness for that. coming up next, job numbers through the roof. june figures numbers made headlines last friday but now we are digger deeper. the reason that many wondering if we're churning out the right kind of jobs. taking a live look outside. we have had pretty warm temperatures across the bay area. what will our monday morning hold? we'll check the forecast and that morning commute.

welcome back, everybody. 4:39 on the monday morning. the labor department says the country added 222,000 jobs in june. the unemployment rate barely ticked up to 4.4% as more people joined the labor market. >> that was a big jobs number last week but as nbc's tom costello reports, in some parts of the country the challenge is not finding a job, it's finding skilled workers to fill jobs. >> reporter: in booming, colorado, they have gone from looking for work to help wanted. the unemployment rate, the lowest in the nation, stunning 2.3%. a problem at this high-tech manufacturing plant struggling to fill ten jobs. >> biggest business challenge is finding qualified people who are enthusiastic about

manufacturing. >> reporter: at first, 19-year-old noah shied away from a manufacturing job. >> the first thing i pictured hearing manufacturing is like a steel mill or like an auto industry. but that's definitely not what it is nowadays. >> reporter: nationwide, many clean, high-tech manufacturers are looking for workers with the skills, potentially looking to relocate and salary offer. in june, the biggest job growth came in health care, financial and business services. also robust growth in the broad service sector. across the board, salaries haven't risen much since the great recession, even as 20 states now boast unemployment rates under 4%. while the unemployment rate dropped more than 50% under president obama, president trump said those numbers weren't believable but taking credit for these good numbers. >> year to date we have created as many jobs this year as in 2016 year to date. so again, it's the same economy whether it's a democrat or

4:45 on your monday morning as you get that cup of coffee this morning and get things working. you will see that there's some cars out there already on the roads. people getting back at it. it is quarter to 5:00 from fremont. boaters warned to keep a safe distance as more and more whales spotted in the san francisco bay. maybe you have seen one or two, maybe a few humpbacks jumping out of the water under the golden gate bridge. a large number of whales are coming deep sbeer the bay following the primary food source, the yummy anchovies. >> it's impossible to predict but lucky enough to be out there near the bridge or on the water when they somehow come out, lifetime. >> exactly. they say the fish are abundant this year, too. could be leading to this. >> greater food source for the whale. >> i was watching. i wanted to see some whales and

it didn't happen. >> i paid for a whale watching and didn't see a single whale. >> wow. >> nbc bay area sky ranger. >> just watch your video. we are going to have great weekend weather. you see whales are not just hanging around the golden gate bridge or just hanging out around the coast. we are looking at temperatures now as you get ready to step out the door right at about 60 degrees. 7-day forecast is at the bottom of the screen. you will see that we will have temperatures in san francisco in the mid-50s, low 50s with patchy fog in the north bay. up to 91 degrees in santa rosa this afternoon so a hot day once again. low 90s for concord and liver more. also morgan hill up to 92 degrees. while san jose up to 86. and oakland today 71 degrees. so let's get ready for the day. we start out with a day with a need for some short sleeves indeed because it's another day with some lightweight, light-colored clothing when the temperatures continue to heat up and a great pool day as the

temperatures have been reaching into the 90s but then going through the week we will see some changes and also watching this system, now what's hurricane eugene. it's category 2. and it's just to the west of ka bo. should not have an impact there and will continue to weaken into the next several days but our weather pattern may be able to pick up the moisture going towards thursday and friday and something to be watching. and otherwise we're going to see all dry weather. in san francisco, temperatures today up to 65 degrees. the drizzle returns tomorrow and then as we go towards the end of the week our temperatures heating up into the upper 70s, meantime the valleys will be close to 100 degrees this saturday. up to 98 degrees and we're going to have at least a little bit of a cool down. that coolest day will be on wednesday. heading over to vianey with the roadways. >> we have two incidents out there as of right now an it looks like it's blocking some

lanes. northbound 280 along 101, it looks like there is a lane blocked in the area due to a traffic collision and the speed sensors with slowing already backing up in the area so i have a feeling they'll be clearing this out within 20 to 25 minutes and hopefully doesn't delay too many folks out there and also following up on that crash along southbound 280 at winchester, it looks like that offramp is blocked and as of right now, the speed sensors with plenty of green and no major delays. quick check of the bridge drive times. nine minutes. westbound 80 toward the bay bridge eight minutes and san matteo bridge, 12 minutes. at san matteo, we can see the folks are ready for the monday. i bet these folks have coffee to go. back to you. >> a necessity. thank you. 4:48. live pictures of capitol hill where senate majority leader mcconnell working hard to scrape together the votes he needs to

pass the republican health care bill in the senate. mcconnell okay knowledges this is a tough battle. so he's suggesting he might instead work with democrats to help shore up the existing affordable care act. >> if my side is unable to agree on an adequate replacement, then some kind of action on -- with regard to private health insurance market must occur. >> all right. he's getting pressure from the white house here. president trump is calling for a vote on the republican health care bill before the congress breaks for summer recess. that happens in two weeks. president trump has been tweeting about it this morning. more on that at 5:00. secretary of state rex tillerson is in europe this morning after making his first official visit to ukraine this weekend pushing for russia to make the first move to bring peace to eastern ukraine. tillerson then went on to turkey

and met with the country's president. u.s./turkish relations have been tense. after years of health complaints, los angeles now considering shutting down oil and gas production in the city. city council directed a study on the economic impacts of fazing out oil and gas development near public spaces. the study will also look at health impacts of living near an oil well. l.a. has more than 300 active oil wells. results of the report are due in a month. in san francisco, the city where jerry garcia grew up, reportedly having a new plaque honoring the grateful dead founder. city leaders installed the first plaque near mission and harrington streets in the city. now the examiner is reporting a second sidewalk plaque is installed a few blocks away near another home where garcia once lived. at mission and amazon. that plaque is expected to be installed by the end of next month. paying tribute to a surfing

legend this morning. converging in santa cruz this weekend. >> it was apazing. paddling into the ocean to honor wet suit pioneer jack o'neill. he died last month at 94. look at the people out there. they just crowded the rocks and the water near pleasure point. they dipped into the water and wearing those wet suits. o'neill first arrived in the bay area in the early 1950s. he quickly started working on a suit that would allow people to stay in the chilly waters longer. he also developed a global surfing brand, o'neill. so many people know and wear. well, there was a violent attack not far from a busy colorado university. what put this teenager in the hospital and how common the attacker is in the wild. but first, happening right now, developing news on the war against isis. iraqi forces are pushing to retake the last patch of ground in mosul. officials believe that hundreds of isis fighters remain inside

in camping. this young teenager in colorado has quite the story to tell after a camping trip he was on turned into a brush with death and found his head in the jaws of a black bear. this all happened early yesterday morning when the man said he woke to a crunching sound, the sound of his skull in the mouth of the bear. the bear was trying to drag him from his sleeping bag as he was camping outside of boulder. >> i thought i was dreaming for a second. it hurts too bad to be a dream. >> wow. the teenager quickly punched and hit the bear and campers yelling and screaming trying to help him. the bear dragged the teenager about 12 feet and then gave up and left. doctors placed nine staples in the teenager's skull and expected to fully recover. >> that's why i don't camp. authorities near redding say sadly a boy died, drowned on a family vacation over the weekend. it happened on saturday morning at lake shasta.

family members on the houseboat and couldn't find the 7-year-old. searchers found him unresponsive in the water about 30 minutes later. check this out. flames igniting in camden market. firefighters say the first, second and third floors as well as a roof of that building were on fire. flames could be seen shooting high into the air. more than 75 firefighters responded. camden market is popular with more than 1,000 shops and stalls. it is not clear if there are injuries. just last month, a massive fire tore through a high-rise killing at least 80 people. >> incredible what the city of london had to endure in the last six months. we have another nice start to the bay area this morning but, kari, elevated fire risk here. >> that's going to be the concern as we go in to not only today but the week as temperatures heat up. we are going to be hot today in the tri-valley to 92 degrees and for san francisco, expect a high of 65 degrees with some sunshine

happy monday morning. let's take a live look outside. san jose, south bay this morning as we kick off the work week. good morning. thank you for joining us. >> kind of a refreshing start here to the monday getting going. enjoy it now while it lasts because this weekend is going to be crazy. >> yeah. it was so hot over the weekend you were just trying to find something to do to cool off for the inland valleys and the coast was the place to be. we're going to have that same weather today as we get a live look outside in san jose. we start out with a few clouds. it's now 61 degrees so it's nice and cool and then you can see how those temperatures trend as we go through late morning and early afternoon with high temperatures today reaching the
