the weekend. that's coming up in a few minutes. mike has a mild build for the commute. i do it's a mild build because we're the middle of that summertime pattern and so we're look at smooth -- look at these speeds almost green all over the place. we do have a little slowing that's starting to develop that first bridge in san jose kicking in once again just for 101 at 680. ps looking at travel times throughout the east bay and tri-valley. notice the tri-valley 238 north and south 8 seat that's coming into and out of the castro, that's where we see a little build. a lot of folks headed across the san mateo bridge. do you have company but down the have any problems over towards the pibs la which is light. back to you. thank you very much. 6:01. we do continue to follow breaking news out of the east bay this morning. pretty dramatic video into our newsroom showing a destructive fire breaking out overnight destroying several businesses and the chamber of commerce in lafayette. bob redell is live at the scene

this morning as he has been all morning for us. any word on the cause of this fire just yet? >> reporter: not as of yet. >> i just spoke with the fire marshal with the contra costa fire district which services lafayette. still do not know what caused this fire to burn and destroy what you're looking at is the remains of 100 lafayette circle. it's the building that's sort of a center piece of the downtown lafayette area, not only did it how's the livermore -- the lafayette chamber of commerce but also the la fa northwest tra restaurant, a hair salon, i cpa and other businesses. so sadly you can see this building is gone. within the past few moments the fire department stopped dumping water on the area because they've been going that all morning long to keep northwest hot spots from flaring back up. and the video this is what it looked like several hours ago. had is what greeted firefighters as they arrived around midnight last night to put out this fire.

the building was fully engulfed. the fire marshal tells us they had to go on the defensive. they could not make any interior attacks they had to stay from the outside and fight the fire from that point of view and unfortunate lit building did burn down. it took about 80 minutes to be get it out. they had to call for three alarms so they had to call for backup a few times, that's how much help they needed in trying to get this fire out and keep it contained. there was concern because of the radiant heat and because of propane tanks popping and blowing up from the restaurant that this could affect the apartments nearby so they did have temporary evac weighings of people who live in those units next to 100 lafayette circle. >> it was very reassuring how everybody kinda like took charge. and the people from the apartment started banging on doors. so people at the apartment started banging on doors, everybody took a very good

community action and they got everybody out. >> so kont an costa county fire department believes damage to be around $1.1 million. they're still trying to figure out what caused this fire to start. sadly, the second bit of bad luck for 100 lafayette circle take a look at what happened in january put might recall which there was a 150 foot tall ukly tus tree that came falling down into the parking lot here crushing a number of cars. no one was hurt but, again, you had because of the storms that tree coming down. that was in january and here we are in july not only the tree gone but so is the build wrg it once stood. reporting life live here in lafayette, bob redell. now with the fire this morning it's a story we're going to stay on top of throughout the morning both on the air and online. you can said to nbcbayarea.com to see more video. we'll be sending out updates via

twitter and our website as soon as we get them. it is 6:04 right now and a developing story this morning, the search for four missing young men in pennsylvania appears to have taken a turn forpt worse. with the discover riff human remains. late last night police in bucks county pennsylvania making that announcement. the remains were found on the farm of a man who police are calling a person of interest in the case. that man has now been rearrest waund set of remains has been identified as one of the four men who disappeared last week. the district attorney says that more testing needs to be done. >> there are additional human remains inside that grave. this painstaking process will go on. we're not done yet. this is a homicide, make no mistake about it. >> those remains were discovered in a 12-foot grave. authorities have not yet charged the person of interest identified as 20-year-old cosmo

dinardo. they say he tried to celt car of the missing men. >> we have new details between the crash of san francisco police and hundreds of skateboarders in dolores park tuesday night. they say they're look at new video taken of the altercation. we spoke to one witness who says the fun turned dangerous when the crowd turned on police and made it difficult for medics to treat an unconscious skater had the here's that witness. >> people were just upset enough that they were crowding in around him and refusing the police direction to get out. way so that medics could get through. >> other witnesses say tension escalated when another skater and an officer made contact sending the skater airborne and then falling on a patrol car. police chief bill scott says the situation was dangerous and officers responding to shut it down. live look this morning from washington, d.c. and the nation's capital where questions still abound over donald trump jr.'s controversial meeting with

a russian lawyer. today we could hear more from it -- about it from president trump. >> he landed in paris overnight where he's attending the bah still day celebration. we have this video showing he and the first lady arriving in france. he is scheduled to do a news conference later today. it will be the first time he has faced questions since his son admitted to meeting with the russian lawyer to get information that could impact the presidential election. all right. it's a foreign trip, the stage is set, today in the bay's tracie potts joining us live from washington, d.c. this morning with what we can expect. tracey. >> we don't know what those questions today will inclees anything about donald trump jr.'s meeting but if they do the president's already weighed in on that on twitter calling it a witch hunt and in an interview before he went to france saying he saw nothing wrong with that meeting. >> ahead of today's nusz news conference president trump is speaking out about his relationship with russian

you'll be able to enjoy the day outside with much more sunshine by this afternoon and breezy winds as well. as we head over to mike we're getting an update on what's happening on the roads and a few slow downs on the map. overall it's pretty clear so that's why those few slow doinz stand out. the you see a couple of blips on san jose and hayward on this map. but moving north there's a problem in the north bay which has been continuing all morning. northbound 29 we have one of two lanes blocked with a big rig were we have power lines in the area and they say they may have to address some power lines. watch for local reroutes that's just off of i-80 that will take you to highway 12 to get past the scene. a smooth drive toward the bay bridge, metering lights and the bab backup are standard over there. slowing beginning to develop in richmond and toward the berkley curve. back to you. coming up next in the bay we're hearing witness accounts from people on a plane that nearly collided with several other planes at sfo.

door in evergreen we'll have some 60s but already at 73 degrees at 10:00 and seeing those temperatures rise into the upper 80s. another warm day with the air conditioner on but we'll crank it up as we go into the weekend. we'll talk about how hot it gez gets. that's coming up at about 6:19. and a live look at san jose area there are say burst that will get to the morning commute starting to build at 101 just north of 680. we'll show that you in a minute. thank you very much. quickly approaching 6:15. new details on a near disaster at sfo. we're now hearing some passengers who say they had no idea their plane was so close to colliding with other jets. we have animation based on real data from an air canada jet that nearly landed on a taxiway filled with other planes. it shows just how close the pilot was to landing in the wrong area last friday night. the plane was supposed to land on runway 28 r which is the second trip from the right. but instead, as it began its

to get out and about. and then this weekend as those temperatures reach into the 90s and over 100 degrees you'll want to limit your time outdoors or maybe head to san francisco. it will be in the mid-70s there. mostly sunny skies and up to 100 on saturday, that will be the peak of the heat before temperatures slowly come back down. as we head over to mike we see some slowing on the san mateo bridge. >> i don't have a reason why because chp didn't tell us about anything and even our wazers are not reporting any problems. but westbound 92 did almost come to a stop. we see traffic is starting to move a bit across that flat section and so we'll show you on the map how the speed sensors are reacting. but notice this just coming off eastbound we see some slowing eastbound as well. they maybe distracted by something going on. i'll check with chp and see what they stro report. we show minor delay through richmond, no major problem just a little bit of slowing down through the freeway where are no

the valleys that's where it gets uncomfortable over these next few days reaching into the low 90s. and we'll be at 90 degrees today, 91 degrees tomorrow, and then up to 101 degrees on saturday. still hot on sunday and then those temperatures gradually coming down as we head over toward next week and we'll be tracking what's happening this weekend with the few events. more on that coming up in seven minutes. but mike has breaking news for the north bay. i do. chp just issued what they call a sig alert that means they kbekt expect it to be a significant amount of time. highway 29 northbound through american canyon is blocked around taylor road not far from the napa county airport. we've been track it all morning. overturned big rig and that's an issue. the post matter is there and so is pg&e. those power lines may be an issue, that might be whey why they completely closed the freeway. local routes you can take highway 12 to get you past that scene. that's the breaking news in napa

the change in status. it's not a major issue for the rest bay area. you see how smoothly things are moving but across the san mateo bridge we have a slower drive, westbound 92 is jamming up for some reason. we're still waiting for anybody to report any issues but it may be a little bit of fog and low clouds drifting by as well. thank you very much. more breaking news recovering a live look at downtown lafayette where a massive early morning fire destroyed the town's chamber of congress along with a popular restaurant. here's a look at that fire whr it was raging earlier this morning if the it started a little bit before midnight on lafayette circle near the busy retail areas where the restaurant including chow are located. the fire also prompted nearby evacuations if the fire crews from nearby departments had to come in and assist that blaze was so big. we spoke to one neighbor who couldn't believe what she was seeing. >> coming out to the porch there was more like a pillar of sparks and flames going up 100, 150 feet just billowing out over

rose garden this morning where the water rate spike seems to be a new trend. >> joo yes. this waut cup not the first and likely not be the last agency to raise its water rates, but if is the latest to get the clooen green light from the cpus -- the california public utilities commission, i'll say it that way. to get that green light to raise the water rates. on average, this is going to mean been $3.67 a month for each customer. it's about 229,000 customers in san jose and the surrounding areas. now, they blame this hike on higher wholesale water prices that they're being charged by the santa clara water district. the water district says they need to fund the system repair and improve some infrastructure including the anderson dam. now, while an average of about $40 a year might not be that much for many opponents of the hike it is the principle of the maurt. they say the hike seems to punish foejz folks who did conserve.

again there. traffic on the go, we are going right now into our weekend 'it is friday eve. >> yes fwr is. it's going fob cook outside, it's going to be really hot. take a look at these inland temperatures. on saturday, 101 degrees. the bay will be at 86 and 74 for the coast. at least we'll be able to find places to go cool off because we'll have a wide range in temperatures, a span from 73 degrees for the coast, 87 for the bay and 100 degrees inland on sunday as well. and i asked on facebook four guys let me know what you're doing this weekend and one of my friends said wants go to the a's game so kick off the weekend on friday at the coliseum. it will be at first pitch 64 degrees, little cool by the end of the game. and then on saturday in san rafael we'll have breast fest happening, it's going to be hot outside so maybe you want to head inside to the marin center and drink some cold beer. it will be in the upper 80s for the afternoon.

charged of killing kate styly is set to begin tomorrow. a mexican national says that he was holding a stolen gun that accidentally went off and struck her on peer 14 in san francisco in what has been two years ago. the shooting made national headlines at the time. it even recently prompted the house of representatives to pass kate's law which extends prison stays for illegal immigrants after they've been deported. a federal judge says he's not likely to throw out a lawsuit that blocks president trump's executive order. that would cut funding for sanctuary cities like san francisco. as we've been reporting, a lawsuit by the city and also santa clara county is what blocked that order back in april. the trump administration argues or did yesterday that since the scope of the order has been limited, less money will be withheld. the judge said that is not enough but he hasn't officially ruled on the administration's

if you're planning to head to the north bay in sonoma wine country it will be very nice even through this afternoon with highs in the low 80s and we just wanted to give awe i quick update on tropical term fer nana out there in the pacific well to the west could be bow, this is expected to move out into the waternd water and become a category four hurricane. and air quality here will be watched very closely because as temperatures go up our air quality especially in the east bay will become unhealthy and that's when you need to limit your outdoor time especially had those temperatures will be the hottest. we'll be in the mid-60s today, mid-70s for the weekend for san francisco, and then look at how those temperatures ramp up for the weekend. we'll be in the triple digits and then slowly coming down next week. and mike continues with that breaking news for the north bay. that's right. we've got this video into the newsroom. look at that overturned big rig. that's the postal truck that was reported since early this morning we've been tracking this the 'it's in the fast lane. you see that it's not divided the north and southbound sides of highway 29. this support in american canyon.

there's a lot of debris in the area but the bigger issue is apparently trucks have arrived to help right that rig. you can see that there was some damage to part of that external wall there and so they probably had to offload and that this is where all the activity is going on. we'll show you northbound 29 now completely closed and that's the reason for the breaking news. the sig alert situation there alocal reroute to interstate-80 and take highway 12. it's a longer route but it's all clear of any of those incidents going to american canyon heading up toward napa. i just learned of this debris west 580 may be across all lanes i'm stilling any up datsds but one person says there's a lot of debris there. the waze shows you no problems for the south bay and helps you towards alma down valley toward mountain view we'll track changes throughout the morning on waze and this will update with you on the phone just join nbc area wazers, that's your team, back to you.

here are the to stories. top situation overnight in lafayette, this is breaking news that we've been following all morning. what you're looking alt there was the chamber of commerce building. fire officials telling us that this is one of the largest fires in lafayette's history. looking lye as investigators work to figure out what the cause was. the massive flames destroyed the chamber of commerce along with a popular restaurant. started a little bit before midnight in the lafayette circle. nobody was hurt, but people who live nearby were most certainly shaken. we talk to them and one woman gets very emotional. we have online at nbcbayarea.com. 6:57 the search for four missing young men in pennsylvania has take ann turn for the worse. with the discovery of human remains in a 12-foot grave. late last night police in bucks county made that announcement. the remains were found on the farm of a man who police are calling a person of interest in the case. the man has now been rearrested.
