an for the east bay into the low 90s there while oakland at 73. very nice. 78 degrees in belmont. san francisco up to 65 on the embarcadero. north bay, pretty much like yesterday but tomorrow is the day temperatures ramp up. i'll talk more about that in a few minutes. mike starts out with a crash in the south bay? >> overturned vehicle reported. a consider on the roof. this is the bottom of the screen right there. southbound 85 right around the sara toga off ramp. perhaps the fire department and sheriff's department making sure everybody's okay. we'll track that. no slowing. we did have slowing and we have still some slowing half of the nimitz freeway is blocked by overnight road work. the reason for the unusually slow section. it's really the nimitz past 23rd and 29th. >> thank you very much, mike.

the investigation continues this morning into what caused a single engine plane to crash taking off in sonoma valley. the pilot died in that crash. >> he died and he was not flying alone. he had two thichildren and a th passenger in the plane. here's the story. >> reporter: the pilot's two children are treated here at the hospital in oakland air lifted here in two separate hospitals following the crash in the field near the sonoma skyparkinson. robert helped pry the children out of the plane. >> there was a little hand out of the back window so i thought, oh my gosh, something's alive in there. >> reporter: castillo one of several people that ran for the crash site when they heard a plane in distruss.

>> sputtered, cut out, started, sputtered, cut out and was off. >> reporter: he watched it lose altitude. >> maybe 75 feet in the air and descending and that's when i heard a bang and saw the parachute out of the back of the airplane. >> reporter: a single engine sr-22. the plane equipped with a parachute system to deploy in case of emergencies. castillo says he and others were unable to get the third passenger out of the plane. >> there was a young lady who was seated looked to me like behind the pilot's seat and there was so much pressure on her, we couldn't get her out. >> reporter: the pilot didn't make it out alive. 38-year-old bill goldman died at the scene. goldman is a professor of international studies here at usf. bay area news. 4:33 right now and police in concord say they're working to

figure out whether a man accused of molesting a little girl in a laundromat might have other victims. 60-year-old jose chavez is behind bars. a woman said he assaulted her granddaughter in concord. police say surveillance video helped them track down chavez. people we spoke with said this is a lesson to other families. >> for the parents, be watching their kids no matter what because you never know what will happen. >> police say the suspect attacked the girl in the short time that her grandma simply turned her back. 4:34. new this morning, police say a man facing charges for alluring men to the san leandro apartment and robbing them. the victims thought they would be meeting a prostitute. police say devon craft used a smartphone app to make the arrangements. at least three men came to an apartment where craft then robbed them. craft was arrested tuesday in

oakland and out on parole. city of palo alto this morning is reporting a surge in the homeless population. the number of homeless is higher by 26% in palo alto over just 2 years. those figures come according to a county wide census count. more of the homeless are entire families. the leaders right now say higher housing costs have led to more homeless. our investigative unit uncovered a report that confirms a close call at sfo was extremely close. we showed you the simulation yesterday showing an air canada jet that almost filled with a taxiway that was filled with planes. new preliminary data released by the transportation safety board of canada says air canada plane flew 100 feet above a full loi loaded passenger plane on the taxiway. experts tell us the air canada pilot likely knew it was headed toward the aircraft and veered turning the plane back into the

air to avoid a crash. all new this morning, state lawmakers are now one step closer to approving more than $380 million per year for transportation projects across the bay area. it's going to call for a ballot measure next year on that and voters decide whether to increase tolls by $3 to fund it. chris sanchez will join us at 5:30 to talk about the projects an put it up on bay area nbc.com. adobe systems is increasing the complex in downtown san jose. the company is going to be buying new property nearby and hiring 3,000 more employees. adobe currently has 2,500 workers in the downtown office. its new proposed property west san fernando street. 4:36 right now. coming up, a concession in a grisly crime.

what do you call it? fri-yay? >> yay! a nice start to the weekend. tomorrow that's all bets off because it's really hot inland areas and find somewhere nice and cool. yes, and the coastal clouds still hanging around in the peninsula. the middle of the screen is 59 degrees and 59 in the tri-valley. a nice start this morning. mostly clear in the east bay. 59 degrees there and 54 degrees in san francisco. we have seen the fog and the drizzle hanging around. high temperatures this afternoon reaching into the mid-80s for santa rosa and napa. concord up to 83 degrees and 92 today in livermore. more than hill 89 and 83 in san jose. that's the way we begin the weekend and standing in the closet, about to start getting dressed and it will be a morning for some short sleeves and shorts. something to keep you nice and cool once again and this weekend will be probably wearing even less layers than today as the

temperatures heat up. going out to the a's game, you want to start out with long sleeves and then some -- short sleeves and then some long sleeves by the end of the game as the temperatures go to the upper 50s by the end of the night. and then the air quality will be unhealthy, especially for the east bay and what that means, if you have breathing problems, limit your time outdoors and try not to be out there when the temperatures are really uncomfortable. find air conditioning and see the high temperatures today in san francisco reaching 66 degrees to mid-70s for the weekend and back to the 60s next week and for the inland areas, a quick ramp-up in the temperatures, some heat advisories in effect for the inland areas and the hills and going into next week it still looks pretty warm. upper 80s to lower 90s. mike is now tracking two incidents right now? >> updates for both of them, kari, yeah.

the slowing for 880 making the blue route twice as long as the purple route. check your team and join if you have not already. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. 4:48 this morning. the search continues for two possible arsonists in the south bay. over two weeks, there have been at least ten miles within a mile of allen rock park. including one that burned a home. the president of the firefighters unit said an arsonist could be working there and fears another one is active in the area known as the jungle. that's the old homeless encampment. >> we see within the jungle area, multiple fires in a single day, three or four responses there and seem to be very, very suspicious to have so many like that. >> the firefighters union also says they're understaffed and they have asked cal fire for help. some continuing coverage now and republicans in washington

are urging state lawmakers here in california to vote against the cap in trade extension. house majority leader mccarthy among the california republicans opposing the plan saying it raises taxes for drivers. democratic governor brown is pushing state lawmakers to support the plan. he says it helps the environment. two things to tell you about from bart's board of director's meeting in san francisco. first, bart's new police chief defends the department's decision not to release videos or details of certain crimes. the chief said yesterday the agency will decide what information to release on a case by case basis. an bart officials saw firsthand what riders see every day. dirty conditions, dozens of homeless people taking shelter and drug users. the point of the meeting was to see the challenges that commuters deal with every day. during next month's outside lands festival in golden gate park organizers will have bands and artists performing in bars and venues throughout san

kentucky senator rand paul saying the bill is not conservative enough. on the other end of the spectrum, maine senator susan collins says it leaves many without health insurance. the medicaid cuts what concerns her. >> this bill doesn't repeal obamacare. >> i'm vocal about my concerns. >> okay. not a lot of detail there but what we do know is that that already puts it at 50. every single republican senator left now would need to vote for this bill in order for it to pass. as it stands right now, six senators are oishl if i listen 0 the fence. it does keep deep cuts to medicaid. it also keeps in place two obamacare era taxes on the well think. there's $45 billion in it to fight the opioid addiction and then for states to lower premiums. president trump is tweeting about his health care this morning returning from paris.

he says vp mike pence is working hard on health care an getting our wonderful republican senators to do what is right for the people. pence is meeting with gop lawmakers trying to convince them to vote for the revised bill. yet another blow to president trump's travel ban. a judge in hawaii ordered the administration to allow grandparents to circumvent that ban. the supreme court reviewed parts of ban which went into effect two weeks ago. the revised ban exempted parents and their children with immediate relatives in the u.s. but did not allow grandparents or grandchildren until now. the state department nor homeland security responded to that ruling. well, we are spearheading a special program here. we have been telling you about it all week. please join the campaign to help out bay area children. >> we're supporting our schools. throughout this month, you can donate backpacks, school supplies or cash which will be used to buy more school
