take a live look outside...... communications hill -- san jose good saturday morning, it is 7:00. we're taking a live look outside as the sun shines over san jose from communications hill. a nice start to what's going to be a hot weekend for a lot of us here. thanks so much for joining us i'm kira clapper. as always, we'll be seeing fog in san francisco, but some areas you say will see triple digits. >> yeah, and san francisco will be one of the cooler spots today. they'll be climbing into the 70s. look at the south bay, already at 62 degrees.

and along the peninsula, 54. and the tri valley, 62. for san francisco, also at about 54. yesterday it was very breezy, very cool in san francisco. but today we've got this ridge of high pressure that's building in on top of the bay area. that's going to warm up us very quickly and it's going to make us go into the triple digits in some spots. by about 12:00, already at 81 in east san jose, by 2:00, upper 80s. yesterday for the most part we were in the upper 80s. 90s in some spots. we'll be seeing triple digits in areas like concord, which is why there's a heat advisory that is expected today remain in effect until 9:00 p.m. tomorrow. that's because the temperatures in the highlighted areas could range anywhere between 94 to possibly 103 in some inland spots. a quick reminder to just drink plenty of water. i will give you breakdown of who is expected to get some of the hotter temperatures and what will be some of the hottest points of the day so you can stay inside, limit outdoor

activity at the hottest time of the day. coming up at 7:16 so you'll want to stay around for that. >> we'll be monitoring the heat all weekend long. be sure to get the latest on any advisories or warnings in your area and download the nbc bay area app. we have an entire section devoted just to weather. you can taylor the forecast to your specific community. now in other news, police need your help finding a missing 5-year-old girl. investigators say she was visiting her grandmother on prince street in berkeley yesterday afternoon when her 34-year-old mother went to the home and took her. the pair was last seen at the ashby b.a.r.t. station. investigators say they're concerned because davis has no visitation rights. she's homeless and is described as having diminished capacity. berkeley p.d. launched an immediate search, even losing an alameda county search dog. >> our heart goes out to any child in a situation like that. we want to make sure the child is where it belongs and is taken

care of and no one is harmed. >> police say davis has taken her daughter once before, but did bring the little girl back. police departments across the bay area are on high alert searching for the daughter. we've been posting updates on the search across our digital platforms since the story broke yesterday. follow us on social media for breaking and developing news through the day. new details in a deadly plane crash in sonoma county that killed a university of san francisco professor. the ntsb says it will be on the crash scene for a few more days, taking photos and measurements. the plane wreckage has been taken to a secured location. that pilot, william goldman, was killed in the crash. his two children survived, but were airlifted to the hospital and were last listed in critical condition. a woman on board also was injured. investigators say a preliminary crash report should be released in a week or two. now, to a story you will only see on nbc bay area.

two men are accused of harassing store owners who displayed the gay pride flag outside of their businesses. one merchant took this photo of the men after she says the two became hostile when she told them to leave her store. today in the bay has the story from fremont. >> reporter: this woman usually leaves her pride flag out. but after a confrontation with these two men she decided to bring it in at night. we blurred their faces because police are still investigating what happened. she said the older man started the confrontation by asking about the rainbow flag. >> can you tell me why you're flying it? why am i flying the flag? because i'm an ally. and he goes uh-huh. why aren't you flying the american flag. there's not a lot and yet so much. >> reporter: she flies both and rotates them regularly but the confrontation unravelled fast and she told them to leave and he got upset. >> it began with f you's and go

f yourself. >> reporter: he left but returned with another man who cursed about the flag. she started taking pictures of them and they both got angry. >> i was holding my phone up to take a picture, and he goes to smack it out of my hands. and i'm like, backing up. >> reporter: we're not going to tell you to leave. >> reporter: merchants says the two men confronted them. >> he was very upset about and took offense by it. >> reporter: after that confrontation the flag mysteriously disappeared but it's not clear if those men are responsible. both confrontations have rattled the neighborhood. but she says she'll continue flying the rainbow flag. >> it's a good place to visit. it's a good place to be. it's a safe place to be. >> reporter: nbc bay area news. a local animal service department needs your help finding the man who abandoned a malnourished dog in the east bay. they're looking for the man who

ditched this dog outside the animal services department in martinez on thursday night. this man was seen on surveillance video walking around the building trying to p open doors. the puppy was malnourished and has a severe skin decision. she was found with no food and water. workers have since named her rosie. >> we don't know if this was dog that was just found stray and brought in or if this person owned the dog. that's why we'd like the help of the public getting in touch with this person. >> if the man was rosie's owner, he could face misdemeanor charges. it would be on to the da to decide if the man would be charged. we're told with proper treatment rosie is expected to make a full recovery. pet lovers are calling it justice served. a san jose man who tortured and killed more than a dozen cats was sentenced to 16 years in jail. the maximum penalty. the name of each cat killed by robert farmer was read aloud

during yesterday's sentencing. owners of the cats hope they now can find some closure. >> we finally can say good bye to every pet that was involved in this tragedy. that's finally saying good bye. >> farmer pleaded guilty to killing 18 cats and wounding three more back in 2015. it's been five years since a gunman walked on to a college campus in oakland and killed seven people. now the man responsible is going to prison for life. a judge sentenced wan go to seven life sentences without the possibility of parole. he told police he went to the university that day to find an administrator who refused his demand for a tuition refund. he shot and killed a receptionist and six nursing students. he was found mentally unfit to stand trial in early 2013 and was sent to a hospital for

paranoid schizophrenia. doctors determined he was sane enough to stand trial. a developing story in hawaii where a deadly fire at a high rise condo building in honolulu killed at least three people. several more are unaccounted for. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon on the 26th floor of the marco polo building but it quickly spread to the floors above it. it took a few hours to get the fire under control. here's another look at the fire shot by someone on the other side of the building. the cause of that fire is still being investigated. it is 7:08. we have much more ahead on today in the bay. coming up, a very expensive selfie. how a cell phone photo went so very wrong inside this art gallery. plus, wedding worries. the unexpected closure that has brides across the country and right here in the bay area left with no wedding dress. even if they already paid for it.

welcome back, it's shy of 711:7 7: 7:11. temperatures across the bay area today from the 70s to the triple digits. planning a wedding can be stressful enough. but now many brides to be are feeling even more stressed after hearing the popular bridal retailer alfred angelo closed all of its stores. the florida based company had 60 stores across the country and thousands of retailers who carry their dresses. retailers here in the bay area say they don't have any way to contact them. we spoke to a bridal store owner in south san francisco that says this is causing a lot of problems. >> some are crying, others couldn't believe it, they're in shock. and last night, i didn't get a chance to call all my brides. i've been getting e-mails, you know, at 3:00 in the morning where some of the moms are

actually sending us e-mails asking what's going on. >> one of those upset brides is julie jones from san diego whose wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses are in limbo. her order is paid in full. the company won't say whether it will still fulfill that order. >> panic. complete and utter disarray. i'm crying, hysterically. my poor fiance is tired of hearing about it. >> alfred angelo was been in business since 1933. was this woman circled in the video. she crouches down to take a picture in front of sculptures and falls starting a domino effect. this happened a few weeks ago at an art gallery in la. some people are questioning if it was a pr stunt. >> for anyone to assume any artists would do it for attention, maybe there are some artists out there like that.

lot of attention. he tweeted he's launching a new website soon called x.com. right now, it only has the letter x in the top left corner. the domain name has some history, though. musk started x.com back in 1999 and it eventually turned into paypal. a few days ago musk bought the website back from paypal saying it had great sentimental value to him. after more testing this week, public health officials say toxic blue algae is still showing up in a pond in napa county. the algae was blamed for the deaths of two dogs last month. the pond is located at the end of milton road in napa and is part of the napa sonoma marshes wildfire area. blue green algae poisoning is most common in pets because they tend to drink the water. people can also suffer serious health issues from the algae. some popular santa cruz

beaches are open. people were banned from going in the water after a shark took a bite out of a man's kayak. he says he was a quarter mile past steamer line when he thinks a great white took a bite out of his boat. he said he fell out and couldn't climb back in. a fisherman pulled him out ten minutes later. some beach goers are worried about sharks, but not everyone is. >> i'm more worried about drowning than things like that than the sharks, you know. >> i don't want to get bit by a shark. and i don't want them to get bit by a shark. >> the ban was supposed to remain in place through tomorrow but the city lifted it a day early. hope everyone stays safe out there. it will be a beautiful day to go to the beach, at least in santa cruz. yeah, i actually have a look at your temperature trend for santa cruz. you're definitely going to want to go to get away from the heat. we have a heat advisory that

will remain in effect at least through sunday night. but right now, if you're just waking up, we're in the 60s and the 50s. so we're still fairly comfortable and still seeing hazy skies along the peninsula and san francisco as well. 54 degrees. north bay 53. and east bay at 59. you'll notice over the next couple of hours, it's going to warm up, especially for inland spots. and it's going to warm up very quickly, which means, yes, look at your temperature trend. by 11:00 a.m., we'll stick to the upper 70s. right around your lunch hour we'll quickly start climbing into the upper 80s. we're not going to hit upper 80s, we're going to hid 90s today for san jose and inland spots as well. for san francisco, this will be one of the cooler spots in the area. 11:00 a.m., 61. san francisco is expected to climb into the 70s. the temperature trend is showing upper 60s by the lunch hour. here's a quick check of today's santa cruz forecast. look at that, upper 70s, sunny skies, perfect beach weather. remember, please be safe out

there as always. and i do want to remind you that heat advisory is in place because we're expecting temperatures to raise between 94 and possibly 103 degrees for the shaded area. please remember to drink plenty of water. wear light colored clothing and remember the pets and all of your neighbors during this heat. it can get dangerous very fast out there, which is why the heat advisory will remain in effect through tomorrow tonight. it's due to a ridge of high pressure building over the area. that's going to keep us dry and hot through the weekend and into the start of the work week as well. here's a quick check of today's highs. we can expect to be triple digits in some spots. i'm going to focus right now on some of the hotter spots in bay area, concord being one of the hottest at 104. antioch 102. morgan hill, 99. the south bay also expecting to see 90s. 91 predicted high for san jose.

90 for paolo alto. we'll see 66 for half moon bay. but the north bay will also be in the mid to upper 90s. so let's break down your day planner for today. we'll be staying in the 60s, and then a few clouds here and there. you also notice it's going to be a little breezy along the coast line. it was breezy last night and it will be breezy again today. it will be breezy tonight. 10:00 a.m., 80 already. very fast warming. remember, to drink very water. 1:00, 95, which is why we want to remind folks about the fire danger. we've seen a lot of brush fires in the area because of the all the heat. if you're lighting a barbecue, look out for dry brush around. triple digit heat in the forecast, we're talking possibly 104 in concord. over the next seven days, we'll keep the ridge of high pressure through the weekend. if you notice we'll stay in the 70s in san francisco. as we head into monday and tuesday, we keep the 60s and

digits. >> that's right and that's microclimates for you. you drive up one way and it's 100 degrees and then you drive along the coast and it's a lot more comfortable. that's where you'll want to head, at least this weekend. we've got this ridge of high pressure. look how beautiful it looks over mount hamilton. looking stunning. we can expect to see the hazy skies you see right now in ocean beach kind of clear out and burn off by midafternoon. which is why we can expect temperatures to build in. we'll see the high pressure take over. the current temperature is fairly comfortable right now. 50s for the majority of the bay area at 54 in pacifica. and we can expect to climb already in east san jose by 11:00 a.m. into the upper 70s. 2:00, 86. san jose has a predicted high of 91. definitely expect to see a very hot day in the south bay. another good spot to get away from the heat is going to be san

yesterday's highs were in the upper 80s and 90s in some spots. today that's going to get even hotter with 90s in san jose. of course, triple digits. one of the cooler spots will be san francisco. if you have plans to head out to san francisco, expect to see a little bit of breeze, but at least we'll see some of those clouds burn off by 11:00 a.m. 61 by 2:00. 68. and we're expecting for san francisco to climb into the 70s for today. another great spot to head to if you're trying to beat the heat is going to be santa cruz. they have reopened that area. by 1:00 you'll be looking at 70 and 73 by 2:00. i assume there will be plenty of traffic. if you do have plans on heading to the beach, make sure to include that in your plans, because i have a feeling a lot of folks are going to be out there today. let's talk about your forecasted highs for today. san jose, a high of about 92. morgan hill, 98. south bay is going to be one of the warmer spots for the most part. east bay, inland spots like livermore, 100.

pleasanton, 103. danville, 103. concord being possibly the hottest for today at 104 degrees. and the oakland area will be warming up into the 80s. it won't be in the 90s, but it will still be fairly warm. cooler spots, half moon bay, 62. san francisco, we'll be climbing into the mid to upper 70s for some spots. it's definitely going to be a great day to be outside. the north bay will see a combination of low 90s, 92 in sonoma. 98 in navaddo. let's look at the next seven days. we do have the high pressure that will continue to dominate and sit over the bay area. not just for today but through the weekend. if you notice we stay in the 70s. by monday, we start climbing down into thing 60s and heat up towards the end of the work week. inland spots are going to keep the triple digit heat, at least through tomorrow. which is why the heat advisory will remain in effect through

prison for face to face meetings with the men they incarcerated. chris sanchez shows us. >> angry mad at the world. >> reporter: von miles has called the california department of corrections home for the last 22 years. >> i was arrested in 1995 for first degree murder. >> reporter: he said he dedicated those years to self-transformation and is a state certified crisis counselor. >> a whole lot of remorse and regret. if you sit there like i have sat in there for the past 22 years, bound to change me. >> reporter: now he sits in an unlikely circle made up of inmates from san quentin and prosecutors from the san francisco district attorney's office. >> name is alex. >> reporter: they're coming together as part of a new effort meant to humanize the criminal justice system. >> we need to be punished if we committed a crime. also we're not past being rehabilitated. >> reporter: the district attorney has been taking his

prosecutors for san quentin for several years now. he says prosecutors have never struggled filling jeail cells bt he believes they miss the mark when it comes to rehabilitation. >> we have incarcerated more people than any other nation. it's filled. it hasn't necessarily done anything. >> reporter: recent criminal justice reforms mean more prisoners will be released earlier than expected. some who expected to die behind bars are now getting a reprieve. he wants his office to help make that transition successful. >> maybe we participated in locking you up, but when you come out we want to facilitate you coming back and not going back again. >> reporter: the collaboration began five years ago inside the newsroom of san quentin news where the former owner of marin cou county's newspaper volunteers. his daughter happens to be a san francisco prosecutor.

>> my daughter, marissa, is a da. asked me one day why in the world i spend so much time with a bunch of criminals in san quentin prison. and said well they're not quite the way you might imagine them. why don't you come in and have a look. >> reporter: so she did, with a little bit of apprehension. but after meeting the men inside, she says her attitude changed. >> almost like a light bulb went off and i was like we really need to get our leadership and office here at san quentin to see this. >> reporter: rodriguez began working with inmates to shape the program. >> we don't walk out of here and go on with our daily lives it impacts us. >> reporter: the collaboration is the first of its kind in the nation and it's making an impact. the das office created a rehabilitation advisory board that includes prosecutors and former inmates. >> we in the right place. >> reporter: as for von miles, his first parole board hearing comes up next year. he's hoping for a new chance at

freedom, saying he wants to give back to the community. >> a lot of us in here that has done some deep, deep works and we could be very effective in the community. >> that was chris sanchez reporting. the inmate who helped launched the collaboration will be out of prison by next month. he tells us he hopes to convince other district attorneys to consider the program as well. san francisco's ban on flavored tobacco could be a turning point, now anti-smoking activists are pushing for ban on the products across california. there are 7,000 different flavors of tobacco products on the market right now, including vaping juices sold with e-cigarettes. san francisco has banned all of them. next week oakland takes up the issue. a recent study found 80% of young smokers start the habit by trying a flavored tobacco product. >> kids are getting hooked every day by trying these products. it masks the harshness of
